it_o not_o as_o it_o be_v the_o pour_v of_o water_n into_o the_o sea_n but_o into_o the_o empty_a vessel_n nothing_o be_v pour_v but_o the_o duty_n which_o god_n will_v commend_v be_v that_o which_o have_v for_o its_o object_n a_o poor_a needy_a distress_a man_n who_o be_v destitute_a of_o thing_n necessary_a and_o know_v not_o by_o what_o mean_v to_o relieve_v himself_o a_o poor_a man_n be_v one_o that_o want_v thing_n needful_a for_o he_o but_o you_o must_v conceive_v that_o here_o be_v not_o mean_v a_o scant_a backward_o niggardly_o give_v but_o a_o constant_a cheerful_a discreet_a and_o upright_o give_v and_o this_o be_v the_o duty_n commend_v now_o follow_v the_o reward_n no_o want_n he_o shall_v be_v secure_v from_o necessity_n and_o penury_n god_n will_v take_v order_n that_o those_o man_n shall_v not_o be_v bring_v to_o penury_n themselves_o which_o be_v so_o charitable_a and_o liberal_a that_o they_o be_v ready_a to_o supply_v the_o want_n of_o other_o this_o duty_n shall_v be_v reward_v with_o freedom_n from_o want_n but_o you_o must_v consider_v that_o the_o holy_a ghost_n use_v a_o figure_n here_o where_o less_o be_v speak_v and_o more_o be_v understand_v for_o he_o mean_v he_o shall_v have_v abundance_n god_n will_v increase_v his_o store_n as_o it_o be_v say_v elsewhere_o 11.15_o pro._n 11.15_o he_o that_o water_v shall_v be_v water_v also_o himself_o you_o see_v first_o the_o promise_n next_o the_o threat_n in_o which_o note_n also_o the_o fault_n and_o the_o punishment_n the_o fault_n be_v hide_v the_o eye_n which_o intimate_v a_o not_o give_v by_o the_o cause_n of_o it_o not_o care_v to_o take_v notice_n of_o the_o poor_a man_n want_n and_o of_o one_o duty_n to_o supply_v the_o same_o but_o use_v fond_a shift_n and_o excuse_n to_o withhold_v a_o man_n self_n from_o the_o duty_n he_o hide_v his_o eye_n from_o do_v a_o good_a work_n that_o refuse_v to_o know_v the_o necessity_n of_o it_o and_o to_o take_v notice_n of_o the_o fit_a occasion_n to_o do_v it_o either_o not_o confess_v that_o the_o thing_n general_o consider_v be_v needful_a or_o when_o particular_a opportunity_n of_o do_v it_o shall_v offer_v themselves_o find_v out_o some_o shift_n or_o other_o to_o cause_v himself_o to_o believe_v that_o then_o he_o need_v not_o do_v it_o this_o be_v the_o fault_n omit_v act_n of_o merciful_a bounty_n out_o of_o carelessness_n to_o know_v or_o acknowledge_v the_o occasion_n yea_o wilful_a ignorance_n and_o deny_v the_o same_o what_o be_v the_o punishment_n of_o it_o much_o of_o curse_n as_o it_o be_v word_n for_o word_n one_o that_o shall_v be_v plentiful_a in_o curse_n a_o curse_n be_v a_o speech_n tend_v to_o pronounce_v or_o wish_v not_o any_o small_a but_o some_o great_a evil_a or_o mischief_n upon_o man_n that_o be_v man_n curse_n but_o god_n curse_n be_v both_o a_o pronounce_v of_o evil_a and_o that_o in_o wrath_n and_o indignation_n to_o show_v his_o detestation_n of_o the_o person_n and_o also_o a_o execute_n of_o the_o evil_n pronounce_v upon_o the_o offender_n to_o his_o ruin_n and_o destruction_n a_o curse_n note_v the_o denounce_v &_o bring_v upon_o a_o man_n some_o great_a evil_a as_o a_o forerunner_n of_o eternal_a destruction_n and_o such_o as_o shall_v certain_o bring_v that_o after_o it_o so_o you_o have_v the_o meaning_n of_o the_o word_n here_o be_v four_o several_a point_n which_o for_o brevity_n sake_n i_o will_v confirm_v and_o prove_v several_o and_o apply_v joint_o and_o all_o at_o once_o the_o first_o point_n be_v doct._n 1_o give_v to_o the_o poor_a be_v a_o necessary_a duty_n i_o draw_v this_o point_n out_o of_o the_o text_n in_o this_o manner_n what_o be_v commend_v to_o man_n with_o a_o gracious_a pracious_a promise_n and_o who_o contrary_a be_v threaten_v with_o a_o curse_n must_v be_v a_o duty_n sure_a as_o all_o will_v yield_v now_o so_o be_v this_o work_n of_o give_v to_o the_o poor_a as_o you_o see_v with_o your_o eye_n wherefore_o it_o must_v be_v undeniable_o conclude_v a_o duty_n that_o be_v a_o thing_n not_o which_o we_o may_v do_v if_o we_o will_v and_o if_o we_o will_v not_o we_o may_v choose_v but_o whereto_o our_o conscience_n be_v tie_v by_o the_o authority_n of_o god_n the_o sole_a commander_n of_o the_o conscience_n and_o which_o if_o we_o omit_v it_o shall_v be_v repute_v a_o transgression_n now_o certain_o willing_o and_o abundant_o give_v as_o you_o be_v careful_a to_o save_v and_o get_v and_o use_v all_o good_a husbandry_n in_o all_o other_o thing_n and_o a_o little_a more_o to_o aggravate_v this_o great_a fault_n of_o niggardliness_n in_o give_v to_o the_o poor_a let_v we_o suppose_v that_o some_o mighty_a and_o rich_a monarch_n shall_v send_v his_o son_n or_o servant_n unto_o you_o require_v you_o to_o furnish_v he_o with_o thing_n necessary_a for_o such_o a_o occasion_n and_o withal_o promise_v of_o his_o honour_n that_o you_o shall_v never_o want_v any_o thing_n if_o he_o find_v you_o for_o his_o sake_n liberal_a to_o such_o person_n will_v not_o you_o be_v at_o much_o cost_n for_o they_o will_v you_o not_o even_o strain_v yourselves_o to_o the_o utmost_a for_o they_o loe_o now_o belove_v a_o king_n may_v win_v you_o to_o lay_v out_o half_a your_o estate_n yea_o all_o and_o more_o than_o all_o even_o so_o as_o to_o run_v far_o in_o debt_n if_o he_o will_v say_v to_o you_o thou_o shall_v never_o lack_v if_o thou_o will_v do_v this_o kindness_n for_o i_o but_o the_o promise_n that_o god_n have_v here_o make_v work_v upon_o you_o no_o more_o than_o if_o you_o have_v never_o hear_v a_o word_n of_o it_o and_o yet_o it_o be_v one_o of_o the_o sentence_n that_o be_v to_o be_v read_v and_o i_o think_v be_v read_v often_o in_o your_o ear_n sure_o i_o conclude_v against_o you_o whatsoever_o your_o tongue_n say_v yet_o your_o heart_n do_v not_o very_o believe_v the_o scripture_n and_o therefore_o the_o word_n you_o hear_v profit_v not_o because_o it_o be_v not_o mix_v with_o faith_n in_o you_o that_o hear_v it_o will_v you_o not_o find_v out_o your_o infidelity_n to_o condemn_v it_o in_o yourselves_o by_o improove_v your_o unwillingness_n to_o give_v see_v their_o hatefullnesse_n and_o dangerousnes_n but_o if_o you_o inform_v yourselves_o aright_o of_o the_o close_a and_o secret_a vice_n which_o produce_v neglect_n of_o good_a duty_n in_o you_o those_o omission_n will_v so_o much_o humble_v you_o as_o to_o procure_v a_o reformation_n i_o have_v reprove_v you_o enough_o exhortation_n use_v 2._o of_o exhortation_n i_o proceed_v to_o exhort_v and_o provoke_v you_o to_o this_o duty_n and_o to_o deter_v you_o from_o this_o sin_n here_o be_v a_o duty_n give_v to_o the_o poor_a here_o be_v a_o sin_n hide_v the_o eye_n what_o say_v you_o will_v you_o perform_v this_o duty_n hereafter_o will_v you_o take_v heed_n of_o this_o sin_n it_o be_v certain_a that_o hear_v without_o resolution_n to_o obey_v be_v mere_a hypocrisy_n and_o a_o loath_a some_o abuse_n of_o god_n ordinance_n you_o stand_v all_o here_o before_o the_o lord_n as_o if_o you_o be_v his_o people_n and_o will_v obey_v he_o now_o show_v yourselves_o to_o be_v either_o true_a or_o false_a true_a by_o consent_v to_o the_o word_n and_o settle_v your_o heart_n in_o a_o purpose_n of_o obey_v or_o false_a by_o the_o contrary_n make_v this_o conclusion_n with_o yourselves_o have_v the_o live_a god_n my_o master_n not_o alone_o enjoin_v i_o to_o give_v unto_o the_o poor_a but_o also_o undertake_v to_o provide_v for_o i_o and_o i_o that_o no_o want_n shall_v befall_v we_o if_o for_o his_o sake_n we_o will_v put_v upon_o we_o a_o liberal_a resolution_n and_o have_v he_o make_v i_o know_v that_o store_n of_o curse_n shall_v pursue_v i_o if_o i_o fore-slacke_a this_o duty_n upon_o any_o pretext_n or_o excuse_n well_o then_o i_o do_v even_o covenant_n with_o myself_o through_o his_o help_n to_o be_v more_o abundant_a in_o this_o duty_n than_o ever_o i_o have_v be_v lord_n thy_o commandment_n shall_v bind_v i_o though_o no_o promise_n be_v annex_v out_o of_o a_o mind_n willing_a to_o subject_v itself_o to_o thou_o i_o shall_v perform_v that_o which_o thou_o require_v though_o thou_o do_v not_o threaten_v a_o good_a servant_n will_v address_v himself_o to_o his_o master_n work_n upon_o a_o bare_a bid_n though_o his_o master_n threaten_v he_o not_o for_o negligence_n but_o if_o his_o master_n be_v so_o urgent_a as_o to_o quicken_v he_o by_o promise_n and_o threat_n because_o it_o be_v a_o proof_n that_o his_o master_n be_v earnest_o desirous_a to_o have_v that_o work_n well_o look_v unto_o he_o will_v be_v so_o much_o more_o careful_a and_o diligent_a therefore_o now_o i_o will_v no_o long_o hide_v my_o eye_n i_o will_v no_o more_o send_v my_o wit_n about_o to_o find_v out_o shift_n &_o evasion_n whereby_o i_o may_v wind_v myself_o out_o of_o the_o hand_n of_o i_o own_o conscience_n but_o i_o will_v through_o god_n help_n i_o will_v give_v liberal_o to_o the_o poor_a and_o if_o i_o find_v my_o heart_n backward_o and_o my_o hand_n bind_v up_o with_o the_o cord_n of_o niggardliness_n if_o i_o find_v a_o kind_n of_o rise_v and_o grumble_n against_o the_o duty_n i_o will_v break_v through_o that_o backwardness_n either_o by_o fair_a mean_n or_o by_o foul_a i_o will_v help_v myself_o by_o the_o remembrance_n and_o consideration_n of_o this_o promise_n or_o threat_v or_o both_o i_o will_v demand_v of_o myself_o and_o say_v what_o mean_v thou_o to_o be_v averse_a from_o a_o duty_n that_o shall_v be_v so_o profitable_a unto_o thyself_o by_o give_v to_o this_o man_n thou_o shall_v not_o advantage_v he_o so_o much_o as_o thyself_o thou_o shall_v a_o little_a supply_n his_o need_n for_o the_o present_a but_o thou_o shall_v save_v thyself_o from_o need_n for_o ever_o i_o i_o myself_o shall_v be_v the_o gainer_n i_o shall_v interest_n myself_o into_o that_o express_a and_o evident_a promise_n of_o god_n which_o i_o hear_v he_o that_o give_v shall_v not_o want_v i_o shall_v assure_v myself_o upon_o the_o truth_n of_o the_o most_o faithful_a god_n not_o to_o be_v deliver_v over_o unto_o penury_n but_o contrary_o if_o i_o yield_v to_o my_o own_o pinch_a humour_n and_o stop_v my_o eye_n and_o hold_v my_o hand_n and_o do_v not_o give_v when_o god_n call_v for_o it_o in_o the_o necessity_n of_o his_o people_n i_o shall_v hinder_v myself_o endammage_n my_o estate_n more_o than_o ten_o time_n so_o much_o money_n can_v hinder_v for_o the_o loss_n of_o half_a or_o of_o all_o my_o estate_n be_v not_o so_o great_a a_o misery_n as_o to_o lie_v open_a to_o curse_n yea_o to_o many_o curse_n o_o i_o will_v never_o save_v a_o few_o penny_n shilling_n or_o pound_n so_o foolish_o i_o set_v by_o they_o to_o make_v myself_o obnoxious_a to_o a_o multitude_n of_o curse_n brethren_n i_o pray_v you_o stir_v up_o your_o resolution_n to_o this_o duty_n by_o the_o consideration_n of_o this_o threat_n and_o promise_n if_o when_o you_o be_v in_o hear_v you_o will_v cause_v yourselves_o to_o be_v persuade_v and_o set_v down_o this_o conclusion_n i_o see_v this_o be_v a_o duty_n i_o see_v god_n have_v promise_v abundant_a
