express_v by_o their_o word_n or_o at_o least_o intimate_v by_o the_o continual_a custom_n of_o the_o family_n unless_o by_o their_o labour_n they_o earn_v their_o own_o live_n and_o be_v allow_v by_o their_o parent_n to_o dispose_v of_o their_o own_o get_n otherwise_o if_o they_o be_v for_o themselves_o out_o of_o the_o family_n or_o out_o of_o the_o family_n and_o under_o government_n but_o yet_o and_o waste_v or_o niggardly_a and_o miser-like_a keep_n and_o hourding_n up_o these_o good_n do_v suffer_v the_o poor_a to_o starve_v for_o want_v of_o necessary_n they_o do_v herein_o exceed_o dishonour_v god_n when_o those_o who_o be_v without_o see_v the_o servant_n of_o his_o family_n perish_v for_o want_n of_o food_n and_o they_o overthrow_v as_o much_o as_o in_o they_o lie_v his_o providence_n while_o they_o withdraw_v that_o provision_n which_o he_o have_v allot_v to_o the_o maintenance_n of_o his_o household_n from_o these_o use_n and_o convert_v they_o to_o their_o own_o sect._n 4._o that_o they_o who_o will_v not_o relieve_v the_o poor_a be_v guilty_a of_o theft_n sacrilege_n and_o murder_n final_o they_o greivous_o offend_v his_o divine_a majesty_n by_o commit_v those_o three_o fearful_a &_o heinous_a sin_n of_o theft_n sacrilege_n and_o murder_n for_o they_o play_v the_o thief_n who_o have_v receive_v much_o riches_n from_o god_n to_o this_o end_n that_o they_o shall_v communicate_v they_o for_o the_o relief_n of_o other_o do_v appropriate_v they_o to_o their_o own_o use_n for_o as_o the_o steward_n of_o a_o nobleman_n house_n receive_v great_a sum_n yearly_a of_o his_o lord_n to_o this_o end_n that_o he_o shall_v disburse_v and_o lay_v it_o out_o for_o the_o keep_n of_o his_o house_n and_o maintenance_n of_o his_o family_n shall_v therewith_o chest_n full_o thrust_v of_o rich_a clothing_n and_o their_o wardrobe_n thorough_o furnish_v with_o gorgeous_a garment_n which_o serve_v for_o little_a other_o use_n than_o to_o keep_v those_o from_o sloth_n and_o idleness_n that_o keep_v they_o from_o mould_v and_o moth-eating_a and_o whereas_o they_o have_v no_o course_n clothes_n to_o cover_v naked_a christ_n they_o have_v costly_a ornament_n for_o their_o wall_n of_o arras_n and_o tapestry_n final_o they_o have_v not_o a_o few_o penny_n to_o spare_v for_o the_o relieve_n of_o those_o who_o be_v in_o extreme_a necessity_n but_o they_o have_v many_o shilling_n and_o pound_n to_o spend_v wasteful_o and_o riotous_o upon_o dice_v &_o game_n vain_a sight_n obscene_a stage_n play_v and_o upon_o all_o other_o sinful_a pleasure_n and_o worldly_a delight_n which_o their_o carnal_a appetite_n any_o way_n desire_v but_o what_o a_o fearful_a account_n have_v these_o man_n to_o make_v in_o the_o day_n of_o judgement_n when_o as_o they_o shall_v make_v their_o reckon_n unto_o god_n item_n so_o much_o spend_v in_o excess_n and_o superfluity_n and_o so_o little_a in_o perform_v the_o work_n of_o mercy_n so_o much_o lay_v out_o upon_o worldly_a vanity_n and_o sinful_a pleasure_n and_o so_o little_a for_o good_a use_n and_o especial_o for_o relieve_n christ_n in_o his_o poor_a member_n sect._n 2._o that_o we_o ought_v to_o give_v something_o to_o the_o poor_a even_o out_o of_o our_o mean_a estate_n but_o say_v thou_o have_v but_o a_o mediocrity_n of_o estate_n and_o do_v not_o attain_v unto_o such_o plenty_n or_o superfluity_n wicked_a man_n will_v make_v sale_n of_o such_o thing_n rather_o than_o they_o will_v want_v that_o which_o be_v sufficient_a for_o the_o satisfy_n of_o their_o sinful_a lust_n how_o much_o more_o shall_v we_o do_v it_o for_o the_o better_a performance_n of_o these_o christian_n duty_n if_o they_o care_v not_o to_o waste_v their_o estate_n in_o the_o service_n of_o the_o devil_n let_v we_o not_o spare_v such_o disbursement_n as_o will_v further_o we_o in_o the_o service_n of_o god_n see_v he_o be_v such_o a_o liberal_a master_n as_o will_v reward_v our_o kindness_n and_o never_o by_o other_o to_o be_v help_v and_o relieve_v sect._n 3_o their_o objection_n answer_v who_o put_v off_o this_o duty_n to_o those_o who_o be_v rich_a yea_o but_o there_o be_v many_o rich_a and_o therefore_o this_o duty_n of_o give_v alm_n lie_v rather_o upon_o they_o than_o upon_o thou_o who_o be_v but_o poor_a and_o of_o small_a mean_n in_o comparison_n of_o they_o and_o if_o they_o see_v in_o the_o example_n of_o the_o poor_a widow_n and_o the_o macedonian_n who_o be_v so_o much_o commend_v for_o part_v with_o somewhat_o out_o of_o their_o small_a store_n three_o if_o thou_o will_v not_o live_v by_o precept_n but_o by_o example_n why_o do_v thou_o propound_v they_o for_o thy_o pattern_n who_o be_v carnal_a and_o covetous_a and_o not_o rather_o the_o example_n of_o our_o saviour_n christ_n and_o the_o holy_a man_n of_o god_n who_o bounty_n even_o out_o of_o their_o poverty_n be_v for_o this_o very_a purpose_n record_v in_o the_o scripture_n last_o thou_o must_v consider_v if_o thou_o be_v poor_a that_o almesdeede_n be_v a_o notable_a mean_n to_o make_v thou_o rich_a as_o be_v a_o spiritual_a kind_n of_o husbandry_n and_o merchandise_n wherein_o if_o we_o labour_v and_o trade_n we_o shall_v thereby_o have_v our_o wealth_n increase_v now_o no_o man_n in_o his_o right_a wit_n have_v small_a store_n of_o corn_n will_v omit_v to_o sow_v it_o because_o other_o neglect_v the_o seasonable_a seede-time_n who_o have_v great_a plenty_n no_o wise_a merchant_n will_v refuse_v to_o trade_n and_o lay_v out_o his_o money_n upon_o a_o good_a bargain_n because_o those_o who_o have_v great_a stock_n will_v not_o employ_v they_o but_o so_o much_o the_o rather_o they_o will_v sow_v and_o trade_n that_o their_o store_n &_o stock_n may_v be_v increase_v and_o why_o then_o shall_v we_o be_v less_o wise_a in_o spiritual_a thing_n see_v we_o may_v be_v assure_v that_o we_o shall_v receive_v a_o great_a and_o better_a increase_n sect._n 4._o a_o objection_n answer_v ground_v upon_o the_o poor_n unthankfulness_n three_o it_o be_v object_v that_o the_o poor_a be_v now_o adays_o so_o unthankful_a that_o all_o be_v lose_v which_o be_v bestow_v upon_o they_o for_o though_o we_o give_v they_o never_o so_o large_o they_o will_v not_o afford_v we_o so_o much_o as_o a_o good_a report_n if_o we_o need_v their_o help_n they_o be_v to_o seek_v and_o they_o will_v not_o take_v any_o pain_n for_o we_o to_o watch_v with_o we_o when_o we_o be_v sick_a or_o to_o work_v for_o we_o when_o we_o need_v their_o labour_n i_o answer_v that_o if_o in_o give_v thy_o alm_n thou_o aim_v at_o these_o end_n thou_o be_v right_o serve_v for_o they_o do_v not_o spring_v out_o of_o the_o fountain_n of_o charity_n but_o self-love_n and_o worldly_a respect_n and_o be_v do_v for_o thy_o own_o praise_n or_o profit_n and_o not_o because_o god_n require_v these_o duty_n at_o thy_o hand_n the_o which_o be_v not_o to_o do_v work_n of_o mercy_n but_o to_o put_v out_o thy_o money_n to_o usury_n for_o thy_o own_o advantage_n second_o i_o may_v say_v of_o alm_n as_o the_o heathen_a man_n of_o benefit_n that_o if_o we_o be_v so_o curious_a in_o avoid_v the_o
