dishonour_n god_n and_o our_o religion_n and_o profession_n and_o all_o to_o no_o purpose_n some_o thing_n we_o fear_v a_o great_a while_n before_o we_o need_v perhaps_o soon_o that_o we_o need_v not_o fear_v at_o all_o one_o say_v lord_n what_o will_v become_v of_o i_o if_o i_o shall_v loose_v my_o wife_n if_o i_o shall_v loose_v my_o child_n or_o loose_v my_o estate_n what_o will_v become_v of_o i_o if_o the_o time_n shall_v be_v hard_a if_o there_o shall_v be_v a_o dear_a year_n i_o can_v scarce_o bring_v both_o end_n together_o now_o another_o say_v what_o shall_v i_o do_v when_o i_o be_o old_a and_o can_v take_v pain_n for_o my_o live_n thus_o man_n fear_v a_o thousand_o inconvenience_n what_o need_v we_o meet_v evil_n half_a way_n what_o need_v we_o create_v to_o ourselves_o such_o trouble_n sufficient_a for_o the_o day_n be_v the_o trouble_n of_o it_o but_o in_o regard_n of_o carnal_a fear_n all_o thing_n make_v we_o afraid_a more_o much_o than_o we_o need_v and_o the_o they_o not_o i_o will_v show_v you_o the_o inconvenience_n of_o this_o brief_o first_o of_o all_o these_o fear_n of_o loss_n and_o cross_n and_o the_o like_a they_o often_o ill_a bring_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o ill_a to_o man_n nay_o it_o bring_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o ill_a as_o the_o natural_a event_n and_o consequent_a of_o it_o partly_o by_o the_o judgement_n of_o god_n isaiah_n 66._o 4._o i_o will_v bring_v their_o fear_n upon_o they_o and_o that_o that_o wicked_a man_n fear_n shall_v come_v upon_o they_o this_o be_v the_o way_n to_o 4._o bring_v ill_o upon_o they_o when_o man_n will_v needs_o be_v miserable_a be_v it_o not_o just_a with_o god_n they_o shall_v the_o roman_n will_v come_v and_o take_v away_o our_o empire_n and_o so_o it_o be_v saul_n be_v afraid_a that_o david_n they_o dishonour_v he_o by_o unbelief_n in_o the_o second_o place_n it_o not_o only_o bring_v ill_a but_o it_o make_v the_o heart_n evilâ—…_n unfit_a for_o ill_a when_o it_o come_v in_o the_o fear_n of_o man_n there_o be_v a_o snare_n but_o in_o the_o confidence_n of_o the_o lord_n there_o be_v a_o sure_a reward_n in_o the_o fear_n of_o man_n there_o be_v a_o snare_n what_o do_v fear_n do_v it_o ensnare_v a_o man_n it_o bind_v a_o man_n hand_n and_o foot_n and_o lay_v he_o flat_a before_o his_o enemy_n when_o he_o come_v and_o then_o his_o enemy_n trample_v upon_o he_o it_o so_o weaken_v the_o spirit_n and_o disheartn_v a_o man_n before_o it_o come_v that_o when_o it_o come_v he_o be_v no_o way_n able_a to_o bear_v it_o for_o the_o fear_n take_v away_o all_o the_o joy_n and_o content_n that_o a_o man_n may_v take_v in_o the_o present_a good_a that_o he_o enjoy_v at_o the_o hand_n of_o god_n that_o he_o can_v enjoy_v that_o because_o he_o fear_v i_o know_v not_o what_o ill_a that_o may_v come_v and_o then_o when_o that_o ill_a come_v he_o be_v not_o able_a to_o bear_v it_o his_o spirit_n be_v so_o weak_a i_o may_v show_v much_o hurt_n that_o this_o fear_n do_v both_o to_o the_o soul_n and_o to_o the_o body_n of_o man_n to_o the_o body_n of_o man_n how_o do_v it_o weaken_v and_o contract_v the_o spirit_n and_o bring_v disease_n and_o some_o time_n death_n itself_o body_n fear_n do_v much_o hurt_v to_o the_o soul_n naturally_n spiritual_o soul_n natural_o it_o weaken_v a_o man_n in_o regard_n of_o the_o operation_n of_o his_o soul_n that_o the_o body_n be_v not_o a_o fit_a instrument_n for_o the_o soul_n to_o naturally_n work_v by_o it_o make_v a_o man_n do_v diverse_a thing_n rash_o and_o inconsiderate_o and_o divers_a thing_n out_o of_o incogitancie_n that_o he_o know_v not_o what_o he_o do_v he_o be_v unfit_a for_o holy_a duty_n unstable_a in_o all_o his_o way_n as_o he_o be_v thus_o in_o regard_n of_o his_o place_n and_o calling_n so_o in_o regard_n of_o the_o duty_n of_o god_n service_n he_o can_v do_v these_o with_o a_o quiet_a heart_n spiritual_o with_o a_o peaceable_a spirit_n while_o he_o be_v possess_v with_o these_o fear_n you_o shall_v see_v almost_o all_o the_o sin_n in_o the_o world_n come_v from_o this_o fear_n what_o be_v the_o reason_n that_o abraham_n and_o sarah_n do_v equivocate_v be_v it_o not_o fear_v in_o that_o particular_a of_o man_n more_o than_o god_n sin_n and_o so_o they_o put_v god_n upon_o a_o miracle_n to_o preserve_v saraahs_n chastity_n in_o the_o case_n of_o abimeleck_n what_o be_v the_o reason_n that_o aaron_n yield_v to_o make_v a_o idol_n for_o the_o people_n of_o israel_n and_o so_o join_v in_o idolatry_n with_o they_o he_o be_v afraid_a of_o the_o people_n that_o they_o may_v do_v he_o some_o hurt_n he_o dare_v not_o trust_v god_n with_o his_o preservation_n so_o peter_n deny_v his_o master_n out_o of_o fear_n what_o be_v the_o reason_n that_o a_o minister_n do_v not_o sometime_o reproove_v sin_n that_o a_o magistrate_n do_v not_o sometime_o reform_v that_o that_o be_v amiss_o it_o be_v slavish_a fear_n they_o will_v not_o trust_v god_n to_o maintain_v they_o in_o his_o own_o cause_n what_o be_v the_o reason_n that_o many_o servant_n lie_v etc._n etc._n it_o be_v out_o of_o a_o slavish_a fear_n of_o their_o master_n and_o so_o in_o regard_n of_o the_o thing_n of_o the_o world_n man_n be_v inordinate_o afraid_a that_o they_o shall_v loose_v somewhat_o they_o possess_v and_o therefore_o they_o take_v indirect_a course_n still_o this_o slavish_a fear_n and_o horror_n and_o distrust_n of_o god_n it_o be_v almost_o the_o cause_n of_o all_o sin_n as_o we_o may_v observe_v in_o the_o world_n this_o be_v so_o prejudicall_a in_o the_o last_o place_n let_v we_o fence_v our_o it_o heart_n against_o this_o fear_n by_o this_o mean_n we_o shall_v honour_v religion_n and_o make_v our_o life_n comfortable_a encourage_v other_o saint_n of_o god_n and_o draw_v people_n to_o like_a religion_n when_o it_o yield_v such_o sweet_a contentment_n to_o the_o soul_n of_o man_n for_o do_v but_o once_o again_o muster_v together_o all_o our_o enemy_n and_o in_o among_o man_n to_o dream_v of_o a_o liberty_n from_o obedience_n when_o the_o scripture_n speak_v of_o a_o liberty_n from_o the_o law_n but_o in_o other_o sense_n not_o in_o matter_n of_o duty_n second_o let_v man_n look_v to_o the_o law_n for_o trial_n too_o gal._n 6._o 3_o 4._o if_o a_o man_n think_v he_o be_v something_o when_o he_o be_v nothing_o he_o deceive_v he_o 4._o self_n but_o let_v every_o man_n try_v himself_o and_o prove_v his_o own_o work_n let_v he_o prove_v his_o own_o work_n by_o what_o shall_v he_o prove_v it_o why_o by_o the_o law_n by_o the_o law_n here_o we_o mean_v the_o whole_a word_n of_o god_n the_o law_n of_o work_n and_o of_o faith_n i_o say_v let_v he_o prove_v his_o work_n by_o this_o law_n by_o the_o write_a word_n of_o god_n therefore_o if_o a_o in_o some_o way_n of_o sin_n or_o other_o i_o say_v this_o show_v thou_o to_o stand_v as_o a_o condemn_a man_n and_o in_o the_o state_n of_o a_o condemn_v man_n i_o say_v not_o that_o such_o a_o man_n shall_v infallible_o be_v damn_v because_o god_n may_v give_v he_o repentance_n that_o he_o may_v come_v out_o of_o the_o snare_n of_o the_o devil_n but_o we_o say_v he_o stand_v for_o the_o present_a in_o the_o state_n of_o a_o condemn_a person_n and_o he_o be_v condemn_v by_o the_o law_n and_o remain_v so_o till_o this_o be_v reverse_v by_o repentance_n till_o he_o have_v sue_v out_o his_o condemn_v in_o the_o sight_n of_o all_o the_o world_n but_o we_o speak_v of_o those_o that_o be_v now_o in_o the_o church_n of_o those_o that_o go_v some_o what_o forward_o in_o the_o profession_n of_o religion_n and_o hope_v and_o be_v persuade_v that_o they_o be_v in_o a_o good_a case_n and_o yet_o have_v little_a care_n to_o set_v thing_n right_a between_o god_n and_o themselves_o but_o though_o such_o and_o such_o action_n be_v condemn_v by_o the_o law_n yet_o they_o hope_v that_o there_o be_v a_o general_a mercy_n that_o will_v pardon_v it_o though_o they_o never_o sue_v out_o their_o pardon_n i_o say_v the_o law_n shall_v pass_v on_o thou_o till_o thou_o do_v that_o that_o concern_v thou_o to_o be_v release_v from_o the_o rigour_n and_o sentence_n of_o the_o law_n he_o and_o so_o i_o fall_v upon_o the_o next_o point_n which_o i_o will_v brief_o touch_v and_o that_o be_v no_o more_o but_o thus_o that_o since_o there_o shall_v be_v a_o proceed_n in_o the_o day_n of_o judgement_n by_o the_o law_n wherein_o man_n action_n and_o word_n shall_v be_v bring_v to_o account_v therefore_o the_o consideration_n of_o the_o day_n of_o judgement_n shall_v be_v a_o effectual_a up_o in_o the_o cabinet_n of_o his_o own_o mercy_n and_o love_n that_o never_o fail_v for_o with_o everlasting_a mercy_n he_o have_v compassion_n on_o we_o isaiah_n 54._o he_o love_v we_o with_o a_o everlasting_a love_n it_o be_v his_o mercy_n that_o we_o be_v not_o consume_v 54._o because_o his_o compassion_n fail_v not_o and_o who_o he_o love_v he_o love_v to_o the_o end_n it_o be_v lay_v up_o
