it_o be_v not_o indeed_o in_o we_o for_o if_o adam_n shall_v have_v say_v behold_v god_n create_v i_o in_o iniquity_n and_o form_v i_o in_o sin_n will_v not_o this_o have_v be_v horrible_a lie_v to_o god_n and_o blaspheme_v of_o his_o name_n no_o less_o be_v it_o if_o their_o position_n be_v true_a that_o we_o be_v bear_v in_o the_o same_o condition_n and_o estate_n that_o adam_n be_v create_v in_o derogatory_n to_o god_n and_o a_o bold_a presumptuous_a lie_n for_o man_n in_o their_o prayer_n to_o acknowledge_v such_o a_o sin_n dwell_v in_o they_o when_o indeed_o it_o do_v not_o so_o then_o if_o this_o be_v true_a that_o we_o be_v not_o bear_v in_o original_a sin_n than_o david_n do_v in_o this_o penitential_a psalm_n fearful_o abuse_v the_o name_n of_o god_n speak_v that_o which_o be_v a_o lie_n and_o a_o most_o abominable_a untruth_n but_o who_o forehead_n be_v so_o harden_a as_o to_o affirm_v this_o yet_o all_o such_o who_o deny_v there_o be_v any_o birth-sin_n they_o must_v also_o say_v there_o be_v no_o confession_n to_o be_v make_v
have_v no_o more_o proportion_n or_o suitableness_n with_o spiritual_a and_o supernatural_a object_n than_o the_o eye_n have_v with_o immaterial_a substance_n so_o that_o as_o the_o eye_n can_v see_v a_o spirit_n neither_o can_v material_a affection_n terminate_v upon_o immaterial_a object_n but_o the_o answer_n be_v that_o the_o affection_n be_v implant_v in_o we_o as_o hand_n maid_n to_o the_o rational_a part_n and_o subject_v to_o they_o by_o a_o essential_a subordination_n therefore_o it_o be_v when_o those_o superior_a part_n of_o the_o soul_n do_v strong_o embrace_v any_o spiritual_a good_a the_o affection_n also_o by_o way_n of_o concomitancy_n be_v stir_v up_o therein_o only_o as_o it_o be_v with_o the_o will_n though_o that_o be_v make_v to_o follow_v the_o understanding_n and_o as_o some_o say_v do_v necessary_o yield_v to_o the_o ultimate_a and_o practical_a dictate_v thereof_o yet_o the_o will_n do_v need_v a_o peculiar_a sanctification_n of_o its_o own_o nature_n the_o chief_a good_a they_o know_v eternal_a glory_n be_v a_o infinite_a treasure_n oh_o but_o how_o barren_a be_v their_o heart_n no_o affection_n no_o cordial_a stir_n of_o their_o soul_n when_o they_o think_v of_o these_o thing_n do_v the_o child_n of_o god_n complain_v of_o any_o thing_n more_o than_o their_o want_n of_o affection_n in_o holy_a thing_n they_o have_v they_o as_o hot_a as_o fire_v for_o the_o thing_n of_o the_o world_n but_o be_v clod_n of_o earth_n in_o spiritual_a duty_n this_o make_v they_o cry_v so_o often_o with_o the_o church_n draw_v we_o and_o we_o will_v run_v after_o thou_o this_o make_v they_o pray_v arise_v o_o southwind_n and_o blow_v o_o north_n upon_o the_o garden_n of_o my_o soul_n that_o the_o flower_n thereof_o may_v send_v forth_o a_o sweet_a wood_n much_o fire_n and_o frequent_v blow_v will_v hardly_o inflame_v they_o and_o hence_o it_o be_v that_o the_o godly_a be_v so_o well_o satisfy_v and_o do_v so_o thankful_o acknowledge_v the_o goodness_n of_o god_n to_o they_o when_o they_o find_v their_o affection_n stir_v in_o any_o holy_a thing_n insomuch_o that_o they_o judge_v that_o duty_n not_o worth_a the_o name_n of_o a_o duty_n which_o be_v not_o a_o affectionate_a duty_n that_o prayer_n not_o worthy_a the_o name_n of_o prayer_n which_o be_v not_o a_o affectionate_a prayer_n but_o how_o dull_a and_o heavy_a be_v these_o till_o sanctify_a as_o to_o any_o holy_a object_n yea_o such_o be_v the_o perverse_a contrariety_n that_o be_v now_o come_v upon_o the_o superior_a and_o inferior_a part_n of_o the_o soul_n that_o when_o the_o more_o noble_a part_n be_v intensive_o carry_v out_o to_o any_o object_n the_o inferior_a be_v thereby_o debilitate_a and_o whole_o weaken_v so_o that_o many_o time_n the_o more_o light_n the_o less_o heat_n the_o more_o intellectual_a and_o rational_a the_o less_o affectionate_a now_o this_o be_v contrary_n to_o our_o primitive_a creation_n for_o then_o the_o more_o knowledge_n of_o affection_n when_o david_n commend_v the_o word_n of_o god_n above_o the_o honey_n and_o the_o honeycomb_n it_o be_v evident_a he_o find_v much_o experimental_a sweetness_n of_o the_o power_n of_o it_o upon_o his_o affection_n sect_n xiii_o the_o affection_n be_v draw_v out_o to_o holy_a duty_n from_o corrupt_a motive_n show_v the_o pollution_n of_o they_o three_o herein_o also_o be_v apparent_a the_o original_a pollution_n of_o our_o affection_n that_o when_o they_o be_v move_v and_o stir_v up_o in_o any_o holy_a duty_n yet_o it_o be_v not_o a_o spiritual_a motive_n that_o draw_v they_o out_o but_o some_o corrupt_a or_o unlawful_a respect_n thus_o there_o be_v a_o world_n of_o guile_n and_o hypocrisy_n in_o our_o affection_n we_o think_v it_o be_v the_o love_n of_o god_n that_o affect_v we_o when_o it_o be_v love_n to_o ourselves_o to_o our_o own_o glory_n to_o accomplish_v our_o own_o end_n thus_o in_o our_o sorrow_n we_o think_v it_o be_v for_o sin_n that_o we_o grieve_v when_o it_o be_v because_o of_o temporal_a evil_n or_o some_o outward_a calamity_n insomuch_o that_o this_o very_a consideration_n of_o the_o hypocrisy_n and_o deceitfulness_n of_o our_o affection_n may_v be_v like_o a_o abyss_n or_o deep_a to_o swallow_v we_o up_o when_o the_o heart_n be_v say_v to_o be_v so_o desperate_o wicked_a and_o that_o none_o can_v know_v it_o but_o god_n by_o that_o be_v mean_v in_o a_o great_a part_n our_o affection_n none_o know_v the_o depth_n of_o his_o love_n of_o his_o fear_n of_o his_o sorrow_n how_o often_o do_v he_o bless_v himself_o when_o he_o find_v these_o thing_n move_v in_o he_o especial_o in_o holy_a duty_n whereas_o alas_o it_o be_v not_o any_o consideration_n from_o god_n any_o heavenly_a respect_n move_v he_o but_o some_o earthly_a consideration_n or_o other_o you_o may_v observe_v this_o in_o jehu_n what_o ardent_a and_o burn_a affection_n do_v he_o show_v in_o the_o cause_n of_o god_n destroy_v idolatry_n and_o execute_v the_o judgement_n of_o god_n upon_o his_o enemy_n but_o what_o move_v his_o affection_n all_o this_o while_n it_o be_v not_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n but_o self-respect_n self-advancement_n oh_o this_o be_v the_o treacherous_a deceitfulness_n of_o our_o affection_n we_o may_v find_v they_o very_o strong_a in_o preach_v in_o public_a prayer_n with_o other_o and_o the_o fire_n to_o they_o be_v only_a vainglory_n yea_o our_o affection_n may_v be_v blow_v up_o with_o our_o own_o expression_n and_o delight_n in_o they_o so_o that_o as_o it_o be_v a_o long_a while_n ere_o thou_o can_v get_v thy_o affection_n up_o to_o any_o holy_a duty_n so_o it_o be_v as_o difficult_a to_o search_v out_o what_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o they_o why_o they_o rise_v up_o those_o in_o mat._n 7._o 21._o that_o will_v cry_v lord_n lord_n do_v by_o the_o ingemination_n of_o the_o word_n demonstrate_v lively_a affection_n yet_o they_o be_v such_o who_o god_n will_v bid_v depart_n as_o not_o know_v of_o they_o here_o therefore_o be_v the_o misery_n of_o man_n that_o as_o all_o the_o speculative_a knowledge_n in_o the_o world_n unless_o it_o be_v also_o accompany_v with_o a_o affectionate_a frame_n
