commandment_n thereof_o it_o be_v time_n to_o return_v to_o that_o from_o which_o we_o digress_v namely_o the_o deliver_n of_o rule_n for_o our_o direction_n in_o draw_v out_o observation_n from_o the_o law_n record_v in_o scripture_n for_o our_o instruction_n and_o there_o be_v three_o kind_n of_o these_o law_n moral_a judicial_a ceremonial_a as_o we_o have_v show_v before_o of_o these_o the_o moral_a law_n come_v first_o to_o be_v consider_v now_o that_o law_n be_v give_v to_o adam_n the_o root_n of_o mankind_n and_o that_o not_o so_o much_o to_o his_o person_n as_o to_o the_o nature_n of_o man_n which_o be_v whole_o in_o he_o when_o he_o receive_v this_o law_n from_o god_n and_o consequent_o bind_v all_o those_o who_o be_v partaker_n of_o that_o nature_n it_o must_v needs_o be_v acknowledge_v that_o whatsoever_o command_v we_o find_v therein_o we_o must_v guide_v ourselves_o by_o as_o the_o rule_n of_o our_o practice_n which_o that_o we_o may_v the_o better_a do_v it_o will_v be_v needful_a to_o lay_v before_o we_o some_o rule_n law_n all_o duty_n to_o god_n and_o man_n be_v command_v in_o the_o moral_a law_n that_o may_v direct_v we_o in_o the_o right_a interpretation_n of_o these_o commandment_n before_o we_o give_v these_o rule_n it_o will_v be_v necessary_a to_o lay_v before_o we_o this_o evident_a ground_n of_o truth_n that_o these_o ten_o word_n as_o they_o be_v call_v comprise_v all_o the_o head_n of_o duty_n to_o be_v perform_v both_o to_o god_n and_o man_n this_o be_v clear_o manifest_v by_o our_o saviour_n answer_n to_o the_o lawyer_n that_o tempt_v he_o luke_n 10.26_o inquire_v what_o he_o may_v do_v to_o inherit_v eternal_a life_n to_o who_o christ_n reply_v that_o whatsoever_o duty_n be_v needful_a to_o the_o attain_n thereof_o be_v to_o be_v find_v in_o the_o commandment_n where_o he_o will_v he_o to_o seek_v it_o now_o these_o precept_n be_v deliver_v in_o such_o brief_a expression_n as_o they_o be_v it_o must_v needs_o follow_v that_o every_o one_o of_o the_o term_n in_o they_o must_v needs_o be_v of_o exceed_v large_a comprehension_n first_o therefore_o law_n rule_n for_o interpret_n the_o law_n whereas_o we_o find_v these_o law_n of_o the_o decalogue_n pen_v some_o in_o the_o form_n of_o a_o command_n and_o most_o of_o they_o in_o the_o form_n of_o a_o prohibition_n rule_n 1_o we_o must_v conceive_v that_o under_o every_o command_n there_o be_v imply_v a_o prohibition_n of_o whatsoever_o be_v contrary_a to_o what_o be_v command_v sin_n all_o the_o commandment_n forbid_v any_o sin_n command_v the_o contrary_a duty_n and_o command_v the_o duty_n forbid_v the_o opposite_a sin_n and_o in_o every_o prohibition_n a_o command_n of_o all_o duty_n opposite_a to_o that_o which_o be_v forbid_v for_o example_n in_o the_o second_o commandment_n which_o under_o the_o name_n of_o image_n forbid_v the_o invent_v or_o use_v of_o any_o form_n of_o worship_n of_o man_n devise_v there_o be_v withal_o command_v the_o worship_n of_o god_n according_a to_o his_o own_o will_n in_o the_o use_n of_o the_o ordinance_n prescribe_v and_o warrant_v by_o his_o word_n as_o prayer_n and_o hear_v of_o the_o word_n receive_v the_o sacrament_n etc._n etc._n and_o in_o the_o three_o commandment_n under_o the_o prohibition_n of_o take_v god_n name_n in_o vain_a be_v command_v the_o take_n up_o of_o it_o with_o all_o holy_a reverence_n and_o fear_n second_o rule_n 2_o under_o the_o name_n of_o any_o duty_n command_v there_o be_v require_v not_o only_o the_o performance_n of_o the_o outward_a act_n of_o that_o duty_n heart_n the_o law_n beside_o the_o outward_a act_n require_v the_o obedience_n of_o the_o heart_n but_o withal_o the_o inward_a obedience_n of_o the_o heart_n to_o the_o law_n which_o require_v it_o rom._n 6.17_o and_o the_o let_v out_o of_o all_o the_o affection_n of_o the_o soul_n in_o the_o performance_n of_o it_o as_o psal_n 119.167_o the_o prophet_n profess_v that_o his_o soul_n have_v keep_v god_n testimony_n and_o that_o he_o do_v love_v they_o exceed_o whence_o it_o be_v that_o both_o our_o saviour_n christ_n and_o his_o apostle_n after_o he_o both_z comprise_v all_o duty_n command_v in_o the_o law_n under_o the_o name_n of_o love_n be_v a_o affection_n of_o the_o heart_n and_o tell_v we_o that_o the_o holy_a affection_n of_o love_n be_v the_o fulfil_n of_o the_o law_n deceive_v wherefore_o though_o they_o often_o speak_v truth_n we_o be_v not_o sure_a that_o they_o do_v so_o always_o because_o it_o be_v not_o contrary_a to_o their_o nature_n to_o lie_v discourse_n uncertain_a it_o must_v needs_o be_v grant_v that_o it_o be_v peculiar_a to_o god_n alone_o to_o establish_v ground_n of_o faith_n again_o for_o the_o regulate_v of_o man_n practice_n service_n 2._o and_o rule_v of_o life_n only_o to_o be_v prescribe_v by_o god_n 1._o who_o will_n be_v infallible_o good_a 2._o and_o the_o duty_n prescribe_v be_v his_o service_n there_o be_v a_o wide_a difference_n between_o god_n and_o man_n authority_n for_o if_o we_o respect_v the_o substance_n of_o duty_n that_o can_v be_v prescribe_v by_o none_o but_o god_n alone_o both_o because_o only_o his_o will_n be_v infallible_o good_a psal_n 143.10.119.39_o and_o therefore_o only_o fit_a to_o be_v the_o rule_n of_o righteousness_n and_o beside_o because_o the_o duty_n command_v be_v all_o of_o they_o immediate_o or_o mediate_o service_n unto_o god_n it_o be_v most_o fit_a that_o god_n alone_o shall_v appoint_v the_o duty_n of_o his_o own_o service_n the_o truth_n be_v in_o matter_n of_o practice_n order_n and_o manner_n of_o outward_a performance_n of_o that_o which_o divine_a authority_n have_v command_v the_o three_o difference_n between_o divine_a and_o humane_a authority_n god_n 3._o in_o the_o extent_n of_o this_o authority_n which_o bind_v the_o conscience_n belong_v only_o to_o god_n be_v in_o the_o extent_n of_o they_o both_o humane_a authority_n be_v ordain_v for_o preservation_n
