there_o be_v no_o precept_n in_o this_o place_n or_o any_o other_o of_o scripture_n which_o argue_v that_o though_o the_o substance_n of_o the_o duty_n be_v under_o particular_a precept_n yet_o the_o frequency_n be_v leave_v after_o the_o manner_n of_o other_o free-will-offering_n to_o every_o man_n own_o conscience_n and_o prudence_n as_o occasion_n and_o circumstance_n shall_v direct_v yet_o particular_a urgency_n etc._n etc._n be_v by_o we_o solemn_o observe_v also_o according_a to_o the_o rule_n of_o the_o church_n wherein_o we_o live_v in_o like_a manner_n as_o the_o jew_n observe_v their_o day_n appoint_v they_o by_o law_n 3._o that_o no_o man_n omit_v to_o perform_v this_o duty_n at_o least_o morning_n and_o evening_n every_o day_n this_o be_v solemn_o require_v of_o the_o people_n of_o god_n direct_v by_o the_o law_n of_o piety_n to_o begin_v and_o close_a all_o with_o prayer_n which_o the_o very_a heathen_n can_v judge_v necessary_a and_o be_v the_o least_o that_o can_v be_v mean_v by_o that_o precept_n of_o the_o apostle_n of_o pray_v without_o cease_v or_o continual_o which_o be_v think_v by_o many_o to_o extend_v no_o far_o then_o in_o proportion_n to_o the_o daily_a sacrifice_n among_o the_o jew_n which_o be_v constant_o every_o morning_n and_o evening_n but_o by_o none_o interpret_v or_o conceive_v interpretable_a to_o any_o low_a proportion_n the_o rule_n of_o sobriety_n will_v be_v hardly_o bring_v to_o hear_v of_o fast_v and_o beside_o the_o truth_n be_v that_o the_o unjust_a man_n alm_n will_v avail_v he_o little_a and_o as_o little_a the_o drunkard_n or_o glutton_n fast_n and_o therefore_o it_o will_v not_o be_v amiss_o a_o while_n before_o we_o proceed_v to_o take_v in_o the_o consideration_n of_o this_o duty_n of_o sobriety_n s._n i_o acknowledge_v the_o reasonableness_n of_o the_o proposal_n sobriety_n what_o then_o do_v you_o mean_v by_o sobriety_n c._n temperance_n in_o eat_v and_o drink_v which_o whatsoever_o may_v in_o eat_v 〈◊〉_d and_o drunkenness_n or_o excess_n in_o drink_v and_o so_o 1_o pet._n 4._o 3._o excess_n of_o wine_n revel_n and_o drink_n and_o on_o the_o other_o side_n be_v sobriety_n command_v 1_o thes_n 5._o 6._o 8._o and_o tit._n 2._o it_o be_v mention_v as_o a_o special_a design_n and_o end_n of_o the_o appear_v of_o christ_n that_o we_o shall_v be_v instruct_v to_o walk_v just_o and_o pious_o and_o sober_o in_o this_o present_a world_n the_o first_o of_o those_o three_o refer_v to_o our_o duty_n to_o our_o neighbour_n the_o second_o to_o our_o duty_n towards_o god_n and_o that_o of_o sobriety_n to_o our_o duty_n towards_o ourselves_o nothing_o tend_v more_o to_o the_o preservation_n of_o ourselves_o then_o that_o and_o nothing_o more_o hurtful_a and_o unagreeable_a with_o that_o charity_n which_o we_o owe_v to_o ourselves_o then_o intemperance_n and_o so_o in_o those_o three_o the_o whole_a duty_n of_o man_n comprise_v s._n how_o many_o sort_n of_o excess_n in_o eat_v and_o drink_v be_v there_o to_o which_o sobriety_n be_v oppose_v c._n the_o excess_n be_v of_o two_o sort_n one_o in_o the_o quantity_n when_o we_o eat_v or_o drink_v to_o the_o overcharge_n of_o
