desire_v and_o endeavour_v to_o be_v purifie_v ourselves_o even_o as_o he_o be_v pure_a as_o it_o be_v 1_o john_n 3.3_o have_v he_o for_o our_o pattern_n if_o any_o shall_v here_o object_n and_o say_v to_o look_v on_o the_o gospel_n thus_o as_o carve_v out_o a_o christian_n duty_n and_o walk_v so_o very_o exact_o in_o this_o extent_n and_o at_o this_o pitch_n make_v it_o appear_v to_o be_v very_o strict_a and_o to_o differ_v little_a or_o nothing_o from_o the_o law_n for_o what_o more_o do_v that_o call_v for_o so_o that_o this_o doctrine_n seem_v to_o be_v legal_a i_o answer_v this_o objection_n seem_v to_o imply_v a_o great_a mistake_n for_o the_o difference_n betwixt_o the_o law_n and_o the_o gospel_n be_v not_o so_o much_o if_o at_o all_o in_o this_o that_o the_o law_n least_o omission_n of_o any_o duty_n more_o than_o do_v the_o law_n 3._o the_o authority_n and_o obligation_n that_o lie_v on_o and_o bind_v to_o holiness_n be_v no_o less_o in_o the_o gospel_n than_o it_o be_v in_o the_o law_n yea_o we_o may_v say_v that_o the_o obligation_n be_v in_o some_o respect_n great_a but_o they_o deffer_n in_o these_o three_o 1._o that_o the_o gospel_n take_v in_o the_o penitent_a though_o he_o have_v not_o be_v perfect_a and_o exact_a and_o give_v he_o pardon_v through_o christ_n which_o the_o law_n do_v not_o 2._o the_o gospel_n call_v for_o duty_n in_o the_o strength_n of_o christ_n and_o furnish_v strength_n for_o duty_n but_o the_o law_n now_o furnish_v no_o strength_n but_o only_o suppose_v it_o it_o only_o give_v out_o the_o word_n of_o command_n require_v of_o man_n that_o they_o walk_v in_o the_o strength_n which_o they_o have_v once_o in_o adam_n so_o that_o though_o the_o authority_n and_o obligation_n be_v the_o same_o yet_o the_o manner_n and_o certification_n be_v not_o the_o same_o if_o there_o be_v any_o breach_n or_o fail_v the_o law_n say_v thou_o shall_v certain_o die_v but_o the_o gospel_n as_o i_o say_v admit_v of_o repentance_n and_o flee_v to_o jesus_n christ_n who_o take_v on_o he_o the_o curse_n of_o the_o law_n 3._o the_o law_n accept_v of_o no_o duty_n if_o it_o be_v not_o exact_o perfect_a in_o the_o degree_n but_o the_o gospel_n accept_v of_o duty_n though_o imperfect_a if_o there_o be_v sincerity_n it_o accept_v on_o christ_n account_n of_o a_o man_n according_a to_o that_o which_o he_o have_v the_o manner_n of_o call_v for_o it_o second_o that_o we_o may_v know_v what_o be_v call_v for_o in_o the_o gospel_n as_o a_o walk_n or_o conversation_n become_v the_o same_o and_o so_o may_v yet_o further_o know_v the_o nature_n of_o gospel-holiness_n which_o be_v the_o second_o thing_n we_o propose_v to_o speak_v to_o you_o will_v consider_v the_o gospel_n as_o it_o be_v distinguish_v from_o the_o law_n and_o as_o it_o hold_v our_o grace_n where_o we_o will_v speak_v 1._o of_o some_o qualification_n that_o the_o gospel_n add_v as_o to_o the_o performance_n of_o the_o same_o duty_n which_o in_o the_o exercise_n of_o inward_a grace_n in_o your_o commerce_n and_o trade_n in_o your_o contentment_n delight_n and_o satisfaction_n to_o be_v heavenly_a in_o all_o and_o if_o any_o shall_v both_o sad_a and_o strange_a to_o think_v how_o it_o come_v to_o pass_v that_o many_o of_o you_o bear_v and_o bolster_v up_o yourselves_o with_o a_o hope_n of_o heaven_n and_o profess_v that_o you_o under_o some_o other_o trouble_n but_o in_o your_o more_o constant_a and_o habitual_a walk_n be_v it_o one_o of_o the_o great_a thing_n for_o which_o you_o blame_v and_o find_v fault_n with_o yourselves_o before_o god_n and_o though_o your_o outside_n and_o visible_a conversation_n be_v blameless_a yet_o while_o you_o look_v on_o the_o carnalness_n and_o earthliness_n of_o your_o mind_n and_o on_o the_o want_n of_o this_o divine_a and_o heavenly_a frame_n of_o soul_n it_o make_v you_o hang_v the_o head_n mar_v your_o boldness_n and_o as_o it_o be_v lay_v your_o feather_n because_o challenge_v for_o it_o qui_fw-fr sad_a state_n the_o three_o use_n serve_v to_o reprove_v and_o expostulat_v for_o this_o unworthy_a carriage_n for_o have_v either_o nothing_o at_o all_o or_o but_o very_o little_a of_o a_o conversation_n in_o heaven_n we_o take_v it_o for_o grant_v that_o many_o of_o we_o be_v far_o from_o it_o and_o that_o all_o of_o we_o be_v little_a in_o it_o but_o very_o not_o heavenly_a can_v you_o pray_v for_o holiness_n and_o say_v these_o word_n thy_o will_v be_v do_v on_o earth_n as_o it_o be_v do_v in_o heaven_n who_o never_o study_v to_o be_v heavenly_a in_o
