soul_n so_o that_o we_o see_v how_o near_o it_o concern_v all_o such_o as_o have_v any_o true_a zeal_n for_o the_o further_a of_o god_n honour_n and_o their_o own_o salvation_n and_o their_o brethren_n to_o endeavour_v by_o all_o the_o mean_n that_o they_o can_v the_o establish_n and_o maintain_v of_o this_o truth_n that_o the_o moral_a law_n give_v by_o god_n to_o adam_n in_o the_o beginning_n and_o renew_v afterward_o by_o moses_n upon_o mount_n sinai_n be_v a_o everlasting_a rule_n leave_v by_o god_n unto_o his_o church_n for_o the_o right_a order_n and_o guide_v they_o in_o all_o their_o way_n the_o premise_n then_o be_v due_o weigh_v and_o lay_v together_o we_o have_v a_o sufficient_a ground_n to_o argue_v in_o this_o manner_n all_o the_o law_n write_v in_o the_o acknowledge_v that_o whatsoever_o command_v we_o find_v therein_o we_o must_v guide_v ourselves_o by_o as_o the_o rule_n of_o our_o practice_n which_o that_o we_o may_v the_o better_a do_v it_o will_v be_v needful_a to_o lay_v before_o we_o some_o rule_n law_n all_o duty_n to_o god_n and_o man_n be_v command_v in_o the_o moral_a law_n that_o may_v direct_v we_o in_o the_o right_a interpretation_n luke_n 10.26_o inquire_v what_o he_o may_v do_v to_o inherit_v eternal_a life_n to_o who_o christ_n reply_v that_o whatsoever_o duty_n be_v needful_a to_o the_o attain_n thereof_o be_v to_o be_v of_o the_o sabbath_n day_n he_o make_v not_o so_o much_o as_o the_o least_o mention_n at_o all_o to_o this_o we_o answer_v divers_a thing_n first_o not_o 1._o it_o follow_v not_o we_o have_v no_o record_v of_o the_o patriarch_n observe_v the_o sabbath_n therefore_o they_o observe_v it_o not_o we_o except_v against_o this_o form_n of_o argue_v from_o negative_a authority_n which_o according_a to_o the_o sentence_n of_o logician_n prove_v nothing_o at_o all_o and_o hereof_o though_o we_o may_v give_v other_o instance_n we_o will_v content_v ourselves_o with_o one_o only_o concern_v the_o point_n which_o we_o have_v in_o hand_n in_o all_o the_o book_n of_o joshua_n judge_n ruth_n sabbath_n for_o 550_o year_n after_o moses_n we_o have_v no_o record_n of_o keep_v the_o sabbath_n the_o two_o book_n of_o samuel_n and_o the_o first_o book_n of_o king_n contain_v the_o history_n of_o the_o church_n for_o 550._o year_n and_o write_v much_o more_o large_o than_o the_o book_n of_o genesis_n and_o the_o beginning_n of_o exodus_fw-la we_o find_v not_o upon_o record_n so_o much_o as_o the_o very_a name_n of_o the_o sabbath_n shall_v we_o therefore_o conclude_v from_o thence_o that_o the_o holy_a man_n of_o those_o time_n especial_o joshua_n samuel_n and_o david_n keep_v not_o the_o sabbath_n when_o we_o know_v they_o have_v a_o law_n that_o bind_v they_o thereunto_o and_o yet_o we_o have_v instance_n enough_o out_o of_o the_o same_o book_n of_o their_o keep_n of_o the_o other_o nine_o commandment_n it_o will_v not_o be_v sufficient_a to_o except_v against_o the_o instance_n produce_v by_o we_o that_o we_o know_v these_o holy_a man_n keep_v the_o sabbath_n though_o there_o be_v no_o record_n of_o their_o keep_n of_o it_o because_o we_o be_v sure_a that_o they_o have_v a_o law_n that_o bind_v they_o to_o keep_v it_o but_o the_o patriarch_n have_v no_o such_o law_n this_o i_o say_v be_v no_o just_a exception_n against_o our_o instance_n for_o it_o be_v to_o beg_v the_o point_n in_o question_n all_o that_o they_o can_v gain_v by_o this_o allegation_n be_v that_o it_o be_v not_o so_o certain_a that_o the_o patriarch_n keep_v the_o sabbath_n because_o it_o be_v not_o so_o certain_a that_o they_o have_v a_o law_n that_o bind_v they_o to_o observe_v it_o now_o this_o be_v a_o wild_a form_n of_o argue_v it_o be_v not_o certain_a though_o we_o prove_v it_o be_v or_o at_o least_o not_o so_o certain_a that_o the_o patriarch_n have_v a_o law_n that_o bind_v they_o to_o keep_v the_o sabbath_n therefore_o it_o be_v certain_a that_o they_o keep_v it_o not_o as_o for_o that_o colour_n that_o they_o make_v use_v of_o for_o the_o strengthen_n of_o their_o exception_n against_o our_o instance_n that_o moses_n record_v the_o patriarch_n keep_v of_o the_o other_o nine_o commandment_n it_o be_v enough_o that_o we_o have_v say_v already_o that_o we_o have_v the_o like_a evidence_n in_o the_o book_n of_o joshua_n objection_n judge_n etc._n etc._n of_o those_o holy_a man_n keep_v of_o the_o other_o nine_o commandment_n commandment_n we_o have_v record_n of_o the_o patriarch_n keep_v the_o other_o nine_o commandment_n but_o to_o give_v a_o full_a answer_n i_o conceive_v they_o will_v not_o say_v that_o in_o the_o book_n of_o genesis_n there_o be_v instance_n of_o the_o patriarch_n observe_v of_o every_o duty_n require_v and_o prescribe_v in_o those_o nine_o commandment_n answer_v but_o will_v name_v we_o some_o duty_n only_o which_o they_o perform_v in_o obedience_n to_o every_o one_o of_o they_o worship_n not_o of_o all_o the_o duty_n of_o all_o those_o nine_o 4._o and_o we_o have_v record_n of_o the_o patriarch_n public_a worship_n and_o we_o say_v that_o we_o find_v instance_n of_o the_o patriarch_n observe_v of_o the_o four_o commandment_n for_o we_o read_v that_o they_o worship_v god_n public_o gen._n 4.26_o chap._n 12.8_o which_o that_o phrase_n of_o call_v upon_o the_o name_n of_o the_o lord_n imply_v as_o i_o conceive_v they_o themselves_o will_v not_o deny_v and_o i_o be_o sure_a they_o acknowledge_v that_o public_a worship_n be_v a_o duty_n of_o the_o sabbath_n but_o hereunto_o they_o will_v reply_v that_o the_o perform_n of_o this_o public_a worship_n prove_v not_o the_o observation_n of_o the_o sabbath_n or_o seven_o day_n for_o that_o worship_n to_o which_o we_o answer_v that_o use_v of_o public_a worship_n necessary_o suppose_v a_o time_n a_o fit_a time_n and_o a_o time_n of_o rest_n for_o that_o worship_n for_o so_o much_o themselves_o acknowledge_v to_o be_v of_o the_o law_n of_o nature_n day_n and_o it_o be_v probable_a on_o the_o seven_o day_n add_v hereunto_o what_o be_v record_v of_o the_o send_v out_o of_o noah_n dove_n just_a at_o the_o distance_n of_o seven_o day_n
