forgive_v all_o other_o but_o even_o curse_v and_o bring_v down_o imprecation_n upon_o himself_o and_o desire_v god_n in_o effect_n never_o to_o pardon_v he_o if_o he_o be_v not_o thus_o qualify_v moderate_o also_o which_o exercise_n as_o christ_n dislike_v not_o but_o rather_o approve_v it_o by_o his_o mention_n here_o so_o he_o desire_v to_o free_a and_o rescue_v it_o from_o the_o vainglorious_a design_n of_o pharisaical_a hypocrite_n in_o the_o use_n of_o it_o but_o before_o you_o will_v be_v well_o capable_a of_o hear_v and_o assent_v to_o your_o duty_n in_o this_o of_o fast_v or_o deny_v yourself_o your_o lawful_a food_n it_o will_v be_v necessary_a by_o way_n of_o preparative_n for_o you_o to_o know_v your_o duty_n in_o respect_n of_o sobriety_n or_o what_o eat_n or_o drink_v abstract_v from_o the_o superaddition_n of_o this_o duty_n offa_v be_v lawful_a for_o christian_n for_o as_o he_o which_o be_v not_o advance_v so_o far_o in_o the_o school_n of_o nature_n as_o to_o observe_v rule_n of_o justice_n will_v scarce_o be_v a_o fit_a auditor_n of_o the_o doctrine_n of_o almes-giving_a premise_v so_o certain_o he_o that_o have_v not_o submit_v himself_o to_o the_o rule_n of_o sobriety_n will_v be_v hardly_o bring_v to_o hear_v of_o fast_v and_o beside_o the_o truth_n be_v that_o the_o unjust_a man_n alm_n will_v avail_v he_o little_a and_o as_o little_a the_o drunkard_n or_o glutton_n fast_n and_o therefore_o it_o will_v not_o be_v amiss_o a_o while_n before_o we_o proceed_v to_o take_v in_o the_o consideration_n of_o this_o duty_n of_o sobriety_n s._n i_o acknowledge_v the_o reasonableness_n of_o the_o proposal_n sobriety_n what_o then_o do_v you_o mean_v by_o sobriety_n c._n temperance_n in_o eat_v and_o drink_v which_o whatsoever_o may_v be_v say_v of_o it_o under_o the_o old_a testament_n among_o the_o jew_n who_o be_v allure_v to_o the_o service_n of_o god_n especial_o with_o the_o representation_n of_o temporal_a promise_n of_o in_o the_o new_a testament_n and_o that_o under_o threat_n of_o damnation_n to_o he_o that_o frequent_o of_o willing_o and_o indulgent_o offend_v herein_o thus_o 1_o cor._n 6._o 10._o it_o be_v say_v thes_n 5._o 6._o 8._o and_o tit._n 2._o it_o be_v mention_v as_o a_o special_a design_n and_o end_n of_o the_o appear_v of_o christ_n that_o we_o shall_v be_v instruct_v to_o walk_v just_o and_o pious_o and_o sober_o in_o this_o present_a world_n the_o first_o of_o those_o three_o refer_v to_o our_o duty_n to_o our_o neighbour_n the_o second_o to_o our_o duty_n towards_o god_n and_o that_o of_o sobriety_n to_o our_o duty_n towards_o ourselves_o nothing_o tend_v more_o to_o the_o preservation_n of_o ourselves_o then_o that_o and_o nothing_o more_o hurtful_a and_o unagreeable_a with_o that_o charity_n which_o we_o owe_v to_o ourselves_o then_o intemperance_n and_o so_o in_o those_o three_o the_o whole_a duty_n of_o man_n comprise_v s._n how_o many_o sort_n of_o excess_n in_o eat_v and_o drink_v be_v there_o to_o which_o sobriety_n be_v oppose_v c._n the_o excess_n be_v of_o two_o sort_n one_o in_o the_o quantity_n when_o we_o eat_v or_o drink_v to_o the_o overcharge_n of_o the_o body_n and_o the_o sobriety_n contrary_a to_o that_o be_v when_o we_o eat_v and_o drink_v no_o more_o than_o agree_v with_o the_o health_n and_o good_a temper_n of_o it_o though_o we_o do_v allow_v ourselves_o the_o pleasure_n and_o delight_n in_o choice_n of_o meat_n &c_n &c_n another_o excess_n there_o be_v in_o the_o quality_n or_o delicacy_n of_o meat_n or_o drink_n and_o a_o study_a care_n and_o pursuit_n of_o such_o as_o be_v thus_o most_o delightful_a and_o the_o sobriety_n contrary_a to_o this_o be_v when_o we_o content_v ourselves_o with_o that_o meat_n and_o drink_v which_o be_v necessary_a or_o useful_a to_o the_o health_n and_o strength_n of_o our_o body_n and_o neglect_v or_o despise_v all_o other_o delicacy_n s._n be_v both_o these_o kind_n of_o excess_n condemn_v and_o sobriety_n command_v we_o christian_n c._n some_o difference_n there_o be_v in_o this_o matter_n the_o former_a of_o those_o excess_n be_v so_o forbid_a that_o he_o that_o use_v it_o be_v be_v command_v by_o christ_n but_o only_o to_o be_v thus_o honourable_o mention_v by_o he_o as_o a_o duty_n that_o he_o mean_v not_o to_o evacuate_v but_o confirm_v so_o far_o that_o he_o that_o will_v not_o observe_v it_o shall_v be_v unworthy_a the_o title_n of_o a_o christian_a nay_o of_o a_o jew_n or_o heathen_a man_n all_o law_n so_o strict_o exact_v it_o of_o he_o s._n the_o duty_n be_v set_v a_o part_n a_o reasonable_a proportion_n of_o that_o and_o then_o divide_v that_o gross_a proportion_n into_o as_o many_o part_n as_o there_o be_v week_n in_o the_o year_n and_o then_o every_o there_o be_v no_o precept_n in_o this_o place_n or_o any_o other_o of_o scripture_n which_o argue_v that_o though_o the_o substance_n of_o the_o duty_n be_v under_o particular_a precept_n yet_o the_o frequency_n be_v leave_v after_o the_o manner_n of_o other_o free-will-offering_n to_o every_o man_n own_o conscience_n and_o prudence_n as_o occasion_n and_o circumstance_n shall_v direct_v yet_o
