though_o necessary_a in_o general_n by_o divine_a precept_n yet_o be_v leave_v in_o particular_a to_o be_v determine_v by_o human_a prudence_n for_o though_o god_n have_v command_v public_a prayer_n praise_n hear_v celebration_n of_o the_o lord_n supper_n etc._n etc._n yet_o what_o time_n or_o place_n we_o shall_v assemble_v in_o in_o what_o order_n these_o part_n of_o worship_n shall_v be_v perform_v what_o particular_a devout_a posture_n we_o shall_v use_v among_o several_a equal_o expressive_a of_o our_o religious_a reverence_n what_o translation_n of_o the_o bible_n or_o version_n of_o the_o psalm_n we_o shall_v choose_v what_o portion_n of_o the_o scripture_n shall_v be_v read_v explain_v and_o apply_v what_o utensil_n shall_v be_v employ_v in_o the_o celebration_n of_o the_o sacrament_n and_o a_o multitude_n of_o such_o circumstance_n and_o mode_n of_o that_o kind_n be_v leave_v to_o human_a determination_n only_o therein_o the_o general_a rule_n of_o scripture_n must_v be_v regard_v as_o that_o all_o be_v do_v to_o edification_n and_o all_o thing_n be_v do_v decent_o and_o in_o order_n etc._n etc._n 1_o cor._n 14.26_o v._o 40._o now_o to_o call_v such_o mode_n of_o worship_n thus_o just_o determine_v by_o human_a prudence_n the_o invention_n of_o man_n even_o such_o as_o our_o saviour_n refer_v to_o 7_o mark_v 7._o be_v indeed_o common_a enough_o with_o such_o wild_a sectary_n as_o the_o quaker_n but_o i_o be_o sorry_a that_o his_o lp._n shall_v thus_o espouse_v their_o quarrel_n and_o take_v up_o their_o argument_n against_o we_o and_o yet_o i_o hope_v to_o make_v it_o evident_a that_o his_o proof_n of_o human_a invention_n in_o the_o worship_n of_o dissenter_n amount_v to_o no_o more_o than_o such_o prudential_a human_a order_n about_o the_o mode_n of_o worship_n as_o be_v undoubted_o allowable_a and_o lawful_a and_o that_o the_o establish_v church_n be_v much_o more_o liable_a to_o the_o same_o charge_n many_o of_o who_o practice_n as_o well_o as_o those_o of_o dissenter_n i_o shall_v be_v oblige_v in_o charity_n to_o defend_v from_o this_o weak_a and_o blind_a accusation_n what_o i_o have_v here_o suggest_v will_v make_v it_o needless_a to_o take_v any_o far_a notice_n of_o the_o principle_n his_o lp._n lay_v down_o in_o reference_n to_o the_o worship_n of_o god_n then_o to_o annex_v these_o few_o brief_a remark_n on_o '_o they_o for_o the_o 2_o first_o that_o it_o belong_v to_o god_n only_o to_o give_v rule_n how_o he_o will_v be_v worship_v and_o that_o the_o h._n scripture_n contain_v the_o revelation_n of_o god_n will_n concern_v his_o worship_n they_o be_v no_o other_o than_o what_o will_v free_o be_v grant_v he_o unless_o he_o extend_v they_o to_o all_o circumstance_n and_o mode_n of_o worship_n and_o exclude_v all_o human_a prudence_n in_o the_o determination_n of_o '_o they_o for_o the_o 3d._n which_o he_o infer_v from_o the_o 2_o former_a viz._n that_o it_o concern_v we_o to_o keep_v as_o close_o as_o we_o can_v to_o those_o direction_n which_o god_n have_v be_v please_v to_o afford_v we_o in_o his_o word_n without_o add_v to_o omit_v or_o alter_v any_o thing_n that_o he_o have_v there_o lay_v down_o i_o hope_v he_o intend_v no_o more_o by_o it_o then_o that_o so_o far_o as_o god_n have_v by_o those_o direction_n enjoin_v any_o part_n of_o worship_n or_o express_o determine_v the_o manner_n and_o circumstance_n of_o it_o so_o far_o we_o must_v follow_v such_o direction_n and_o therefore_o i_o hope_v he_o will_v not_o hereby_o insinuate_v as_o if_o those_o direction_n be_v so_o particular_a as_o to_o appoint_v all_o the_o fore_n mention_v circumstantial_a mode_n of_o institute_v worship_n and_o i_o think_v this_o caution_n the_o more_o needful_a to_o be_v give_v he_o because_o the_o reason_n he_o offer_v for_o this_o principle_n carry_v a_o very_a uncertain_a and_o dangerous_a sound_n with_o it_o viz._n for_o since_o god_n his_o vouchsafe_v we_o a_o certain_a direction_n for_o his_o worship_n in_o the_o h._n scripture_n it_o be_v to_o be_v suppose_v that_o all_o way_n of_o worship_n be_v displease_v to_o he_o that_o be_v not_o express_o contain_v or_o warrant_v by_o example_n of_o h._n mâ—n_z therein_o if_o his_o lp._n have_v design_v our_o instruction_n by_o these_o principle_n he_o shall_v not_o have_v deliver_v they_o to_o we_o like_o the_o heathen_a oracle_n in_o so_o ambiguous_a term_n as_o leave_v we_o to_o guess_v in_o the_o dark_a what_o he_o mean_v for_o how_o shall_v we_o know_v whether_o by_o god_n give_v we_o a_o certain_a direction_n for_o his_o worship_n he_o mean_v as_o to_o all_o the_o part_n of_o it_o or_o all_o the_o circumstantial_a mode_n and_o whether_o of_o these_o he_o intend_v by_o way_n of_o worship_n for_o if_o he_o intend_v the_o latter_a as_o any_o man_n will_v imagine_v by_o the_o whole_a tenor_n of_o his_o follow_a discourse_n wherein_o be_v so_o often_o apply_v that_o phrase_n the_o way_n of_o worship_n to_o the_o mode_n of_o it_o viz._n that_o god_n have_v give_v we_o so_o certain_a a_o direction_n for_o his_o worship_n as_o to_o all_o the_o circumstantial_a mode_n of_o it_o that_o all_o such_o mode_n of_o it_o be_v displease_v to_o he_o that_o have_v not_o express_v scripture-precept_n or_o pattern_n this_o be_v so_o wild_a a_o assertion_n that_o i_o scarce_o think_v any_o more_o extravagant_a one_o ever_o drop_v from_o the_o pen_n of_o the_o most_o weak_a and_o scrupulous_a sectary_n and_o so_o very_o uncharitable_a that_o if_o a_o man_n believe_v it_o he_o will_v find_v it_o and_o circumstance_n of_o it_o there_o the_o determination_n of_o they_o belong_v to_o human_a prudence_n and_o such_o determination_n of_o they_o be_v lawful_a and_o warrantable_a as_o be_v agreeable_a to_o the_o general_a rule_n of_o scripture_n give_v to_o direct_v we_o therein_o and_o therefore_o there_o may_v be_v various_a mode_n of_o perform_v the_o same_o religious_a duty_n that_o be_v each_o allowable_a and_o lawful_a though_o some_o particular_a circumstance_n may_v make_v one_o to_o some_o person_n more_o expedient_a than_o the_o other_o ex._n gr_n god_n have_v command_v we_o to_o pray_v but_o he_o have_v no_o where_o express_o determine_v whatever_o his_o lp._n seem_v to_o insinuate_v to_o the_o contrary_a whether_o we_o shall_v pray_v with_o or_o without_o a_o set_v form_n of_o word_n both_o way_n of_o pray_v therefore_o may_v be_v lawful_a in_o general_n though_o particular_a circumstance_n may_v to_o some_o render_v the_o
