that_o will_v plead_v interest_n in_o it_o yet_o these_o people_n at_o this_o time_n be_v proud_a and_o secure_a and_o heedless_a of_o their_o estate_n and_o though_o sin_n be_v in_o they_o and_o death_n reign_v over_o they_o yet_o they_o be_v without_o a_o law_n to_o evidence_n this_o sin_n and_o death_n unto_o their_o conscience_n they_o do_v not_o impute_v it_o unto_o themselves_o they_o to_o the_o elect_a believer_n may_v appear_v the_o more_o exceed_o gracious_a so_o that_o you_o see_v the_o lord_n intention_n therein_o be_v that_o they_o by_o look_v upon_o this_o covenant_n may_v be_v put_v in_o mind_n what_o be_v their_o duty_n of_o old_a when_o they_o be_v in_o adam_n loin_n 155._o yea_o and_o what_o be_v their_o duty_n still_o if_o they_o will_v stand_v to_o that_o covenant_n and_o so_o go_v the_o old_a and_o natural_a way_n to_o work_v yea_o and_o hereby_o they_o be_v also_o to_o see_v what_o be_v their_o present_a infirmity_n in_o not_o do_v their_o duty_n that_o so_o they_o see_v a_o impossibility_n of_o obtain_v life_n by_o that_o way_n of_o work_n first_o appoint_v in_o paradise_n they_o may_v be_v humble_v and_o more_o heedful_o mind_v the_o and_o therefore_o whereas_o they_o shall_v first_o have_v consider_v what_o a_o straight_a rule_n the_o law_n of_o god_n be_v and_o then_o have_v bring_v man_n heart_n and_o have_v lay_v it_o to_o perfect_a obedience_n to_o the_o law_n according_a to_o their_o own_o exposition_n evan._n no_o indeed_o i_o think_v very_o few_o of_o they_o if_o any_o at_o all_o ant._n why_o what_o hope_n can_v they_o then_o have_v to_o be_v justify_v and_o save_v when_o they_o transgress_v any_o of_o the_o commandment_n evan._n peter_n martyr_n tell_v we_o that_o when_o they_o chance_v to_o transgress_v any_o of_o the_o ten_o commandment_n exp_n they_o have_v their_o sacrifice_n to_o make_v satisfaction_n as_o they_o conceive_v for_o they_o look_v upon_o their_o sacrifice_n without_o their_o signification_n maâ—_n and_o so_o have_v a_o false_a faith_n in_o they_o think_v that_o the_o bare_a work_n be_v a_o sacrifice_n acceptable_a to_o god_n in_o a_o word_n they_o conceive_v that_o the_o blood_n of_o bull_n and_o goat_n will_v take_v away_o sin_n and_o so_o what_o they_o want_v of_o fulfil_v the_o moral_a law_n 161._o they_o think_v to_o make_v make_v up_o in_o the_o ceremonial_a law_n and_o thus_o they_o separate_v christ_n from_o their_o sacrifice_n think_v they_o have_v discharge_v their_o duty_n very_o well_o when_o they_o have_v sacrifice_v and_o offer_v their_o offering_n not_o consider_v that_o the_o imperfection_n of_o the_o typical_a law_n which_o as_o the_o apostle_n say_v make_v nothing_o perfect_a 9_o shall_v have_v lead_v they_o to_o find_v perfection_n in_o christ_n but_o they_o general_o rest_v in_o the_o work_n do_v in_o the_o ceremonial_a law_n even_o as_o they_o have_v do_v in_o the_o moral_a law_n though_o they_o themselves_o be_v unable_a to_o do_v the_o one_o and_o the_o other_o be_v as_o unsufficient_a to_o help_v they_o and_o thus_o israel_n which_o follow_v the_o law_n of_o righteousness_n do_v not_o attain_v to_o the_o law_n of_o righteousness_n because_o they_o seek_v it_o not_o by_o faith_n 9.31.32_o but_o as_o it_o be_v by_o the_o work_n of_o the_o law_n for_o they_o be_v ignorant_a of_o the_o righteousness_n of_o god_n and_o go_v about_o to_o establish_v their_o own_o righteousness_n 10.3_o do_v not_o submit_v themselves_o to_o the_o righteousness_n of_o god_n ant._n then_o sir_n it_o seem_v that_o their_o ignorance_n be_v the_o cause_n of_o their_o error_n evan._n yea_o indeed_o be_v it_o for_o this_o veil_n of_o ignorance_n that_o be_v over_o their_o heart_n 3.14_o or_o this_o veil_n of_o blindness_n which_o be_v over_o their_o mind_n make_v their_o sight_n so_o weak_a and_o dim_a that_o they_o be_v no_o more_o able_a to_o behold_v the_o glorious_a beauty_n of_o the_o lord_n holy_a and_o pure_a nature_n manifest_v in_o the_o law_n as_o it_o be_v the_o covenant_n of_o work_n than_o the_o weak_a eye_n of_o man_n be_v able_a to_o behold_v the_o bright_a sun_n when_o it_o shine_v in_o full_a strength_n and_o therefore_o we_o read_v that_o when_o moses_n come_v down_o from_o the_o mount_n with_o the_o two_o table_n 29._o wherein_o be_v wriâ—ten_v the_o word_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n the_o ten_o commandment_n his_o face_n do_v shâ—ne_v so_o bright_a that_o the_o child_n of_o israel_n can_v not_o steadfast_o behold_v it_o 3.7_o for_o the_o glory_n of_o his_o eyesight_n in_o thâ—_n shadow_n and_o do_v not_o see_v through_o it_o to_o thâ—_n substance_n to_o wit_n to_o the_o end_n of_o the_o law_n which_o be_v christ._n some_o indeed_o there_o be_v which_o do_v otherwise_o but_o alas_o the_o number_n of_o they_o be_v very_o few_o especial_o in_o the_o future_a age_n after_o moses_n for_o their_o blind_a guide_n have_v so_o leven_v the_o people_n with_o their_o corrupt_a doctrine_n that_o at_o the_o time_n of_o our_o saviour_n come_v in_o the_o flesh_n we_o reâ—dâ—_n but_o of_o two_o to_o wit_n simeon_n and_o anna_n that_o desire_v he_o or_o look_v for_o he_o for_o although_o all_o of_o they_o have_v in_o their_o mouth_n the_o messiah_n 87._o and_o the_o bless_a estate_n of_o the_o kingdom_n of_o david_n yet_o they_o dream_v that_o this_o messiah_n shall_v be_v some_o great_a monarch_n that_o shall_v come_v in_o outward_a pomp_n and_o power_n and_o save_v and_o deliver_v they_o from_o the_o roman_n of_o who_o bondage_n they_o be_v very_o sensible_a and_o weary_a but_o as_o for_o their_o spiritual_a bondage_n under_o the_o law_n and_o sin_n they_o be_v not_o sensible_a of_o it_o and_o so_o indeed_o see_v no_o need_n of_o deliverance_n from_o it_o and_o all_o because_o their_o false_a teacher_n have_v turn_v the_o whole_a law_n into_o a_o covenant_n of_o work_n to_o be_v do_v for_o justification_n and_o salvation_n yea_o such_o a_o covenant_n as_o they_o be_v able_a to_o keep_v and_o fulfil_v if_o noâ—_n by_o do_v yet_o by_o make_v satisfaction_n with_o their_o sacrifice_n and_o though_o jesus_n christ_n himself_o for_o the_o remove_n of_o this_o veil_n do_v in_o the_o five_o of_o matthew_n take_v occasion_n true_o to_o expound_v the_o law_n as_o it_o be_v the_o covenant_n of_o work_n show_v that_o it_o do_v not_o only_o require_v external_a righteousness_n but_o internal_a also_o of_o they_o that_o will_v be_v justify_v by_o the_o work_v thereof_o and_o so_o remove_v that_o false_a gloss_n which_o the_o scribe_n and_o pharisee_n have_v put_v upon_o it_o yea_o and_o though_o both_o he_o himself_o and_o his_o apostle_n by_o their_o preach_n and_o teach_v do_v endeavour_v to_o let_v they_o understand_v that_o all_o the_o sacrifice_n and_o ceremony_n do_v but_o point_n at_o he_o and_o so_o be_v of_o no_o further_a use_n yea_o and_o though_o at_o the_o death_n of_o christ_n the_o veil_n of_o the_o temple_n be_v rend_v in_o twain_o from_o the_o top_n to_o the_o bottom_n 112._o to_o show_v that_o the_o shadow_n of_o moses_n law_n shall_v vanish_v away_o at_o the_o flourish_a light_n i_o and_o that_o cause_v i_o to_o fear_v that_o all_o be_v not_o right_a with_o i_o as_o yet_o whereupon_o i_o go_v to_o another_o minister_n and_o tell_v he_o that_o though_o i_o have_v do_v thus_o and_o thus_o and_o suffer_v thus_o and_o thus_o yet_o i_o be_v persuade_v that_o i_o be_v in_o no_o better_a a_o condition_n then_o those_o jew_n o_o yes_o say_v he_o you_o be_v in_o a_o better_a condition_n than_o they_o for_o they_o be_v hypocrite_n and_o serve_v not_o god_n with_o all_o their_o heart_n as_o you_o do_v then_o i_o go_v home_o content_o and_o so_o go_v on_o in_o my_o wont_a cheer_v i_o up_o bid_v i_o be_v of_o good_a comfort_n for_o howsoever_o my_o obedience_n since_o my_o conversion_n will_v not_o satisfy_v for_o my_o former_a sin_n yet_o in_o as_o much_o as_o at_o endeavour_v as_o much_o as_o possible_o i_o can_v to_o keep_v the_o law_n of_o ged_a perfect_o and_o yet_o by_o woeful_a experience_n i_o have_v find_v that_o i_o have_v and_o do_v still_o transgress_v it_o many_o way_n and_o therefore_o i_o fear_v hell_n and_o damation_n o_o but_o say_v he_o do_v not_o fear_v for_o the_o best_a christian_n have_v their_o fail_n and_o no_o man_n keep_v the_o law_n of_o god_n perfect_o and_o therefore_o go_v on_o and_o do_v as_o you_o have_v do_v in_o strive_v to_o keep_v the_o law_n perfect_o in_o what_o you_o can_v do_v god_n will_v accept_v the_o
