of_o his_o kingdom_n 2._o christ_n be_v ordinary_o much_o mistake_v even_o by_o those_o who_o acknowledge_v he_o and_o particular_o his_o kingdom_n be_v ofttimes_o conceive_v of_o amiss_o for_o so_o do_v they_o here_o though_o they_o know_v he_o to_o be_v the_o promise_a messiah_n yet_o they_o leave_v that_o and_o take_v themselves_o only_o to_o his_o kingly_a office_n not_o to_o submit_v themselves_o to_o his_o spiritual_a yoke_n and_o government_n but_o expect_v carnal_a liberty_n and_o a_o prosperous_a condition_n under_o their_o promise_a king_n and_o for_o beget_v of_o these_o conception_n there_o concur_v 1._o their_o mistake_n and_o carnal_a conception_n of_o scripture_n point_v at_o christ_n kingdom_n wherein_o they_o be_v foster_v by_o the_o corrupt_a gloss_n of_o their_o teacher_n who_o point_v out_o the_o messiah_n as_o a_o worldly_a monarch_n come_v to_o subdue_v all_o nation_n under_o he_o and_o their_o foot_n 2._o their_o own_o carnal_a disposition_n never_o mind_v the_o danger_n wherein_o they_o involve_v themselves_o thereby_o and_o yet_o there_o be_v nothing_o but_o flesh_n in_o it_o carnal_a zeal_n what_o ever_o it_o pretend_v yet_o it_o sail_v both_o with_o wind_n and_o tide_n and_o therefore_o such_o impetuous_a furious_a motion_n be_v to_o be_v suspect_v 4._o rash_n and_o carnal_a blind_a zeal_n for_o christ_n and_o his_o kingdom_n but_o the_o best_a pillar_n they_o have_v if_o they_o will_v suffer_v he_o to_o rule_v among_o they_o therefore_o do_v christ_n refuse_v all_o this_o offer_n as_o not_o competent_a to_o he_o and_o this_o teach_v his_o follower_n to_o beware_v of_o usurp_a lordly_a dominion_n under_o pretext_n of_o administer_a the_o thing_n of_o his_o kingdom_n 8._o as_o christ_n follower_n shall_v shun_v that_o without_o the_o word_n there_o be_v no_o enjoy_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n 3._o as_o the_o gift_n of_o the_o spirit_n in_o his_o special_a dispensation_n be_v very_o rare_a so_o it_o will_v add_v to_o the_o commendation_n of_o this_o encouragement_n if_o we_o study_v the_o singularity_n thereof_o and_o what_o a_o difference_n the_o lord_n put_v therein_o betwixt_o his_o own_o into_o a_o conformity_n with_o these_o thing_n they_o lust_v after_o as_o they_o become_v brutish_a and_o can_v neither_o discern_v nor_o desire_v what_o be_v their_o true_a excellency_n and_o in_o their_o uncomfortable_a and_o orphan-condition_n but_o will_v come_v again_o unto_o they_o not_o only_o in_o his_o bodily_a presence_n after_o his_o resurrection_n and_o at_o the_o great_a day_n but_o by_o his_o spirit_n as_o a_o assure_a pledge_n of_o his_o presence_n till_o at_o last_o he_o return_v to_o complete_a their_o redemption_n whence_o learn_v 1._o such_o be_v ofttimes_o the_o weakness_n of_o believer_n faith_n and_o the_o abundance_n and_o greatness_n of_o their_o discouragement_n that_o promise_n must_v be_v often_o repeat_v before_o they_o can_v admit_v of_o they_o or_o be_v comfort_v in_o they_o therefore_o after_o the_o former_a promise_n of_o another_o comforter_n he_o must_v and_o do_v over_o again_o tell_v they_o i_o will_v not_o leave_v you_o comfortless_o 2._o believer_n in_o christ_n absence_n and_o without_o he_o will_v stand_v in_o need_n of_o great_a comfort_n be_v like_o orphan_n expose_v to_o deceit_n and_o injury_n unable_a to_o do_v for_o his_o company_n to_o resolve_v case_n which_o may_v be_v comfortable_a to_o they_o when_o he_o be_v go_v now_o i_o go_v my_o way_n and_o none_o of_o you_o ask_v i_o whither_o go_v thou_o where_o he_o insinuate_v that_o it_o be_v their_o duty_n to_o be_v throng_n and_o busy_a during_o that_o moment_n 11._o man_n may_v seem_v to_o be_v somewhat_o busy_a about_o important_a case_n and_o in_o seek_v resolution_n of_o great_a difficulty_n who_o yet_o in_o christ_n account_n be_v but_o real_o idle_a for_o albeit_o peter_n do_v propound_v this_o very_a question_n to_o he_o chap._n 13.36_o yet_o he_o challenge_v none_o of_o you_o ask_v &c_n &c_n because_o he_o do_v not_o so_o ask_v as_o seek_v the_o right_a use_n of_o the_o resolution_n to_o be_v confirm_v in_o the_o exercise_n of_o believe_v or_o inform_v concern_v the_o effect_n of_o his_o departure_n for_o that_o end_n but_o only_o in_o a_o way_n of_o carp_a and_o presumptuous_a boast_n of_o his_o own_o strength_n from_o v._o 6._o learn_v 1._o as_o it_o be_v no_o wonder_n saint_n be_v ofttimes_o exercise_v with_o sorrow_n under_o the_o apprehension_n of_o trouble_n so_o it_o be_v most_o usual_a for_o they_o to_o keep_v no_o moderation_n in_o their_o sorrow_n but_o to_o let_v loose_a the_o reins_n to_o themselves_o in_o it_o for_o sorrow_n fill_v their_o heart_n 2._o christ_n approve_v not_o of_o immoderate_a sorrow_n in_o his_o follower_n do_v the_o cause_n and_o rise_v thereof_o seem_v never_o so_o lawful_a as_o be_v a_o imputation_n on_o he_o as_o if_o he_o be_v a_o cruel_a master_n and_o a_o mean_a to_o defer_v other_o from_o his_o service_n therefore_o do_v he_o challenge_v they_o for_o this_o sorrow_n have_v fill_v your_o heart_n 3._o it_o be_v the_o great_a weakness_n of_o saint_n that_o in_o their_o distemper_n they_o turn_v even_o the_o good_a word_n of_o god_n which_o be_v speak_v for_o their_o encouragement_n into_o matter_n of_o grief_n and_o sorrow_n for_o say_v he_o because_o i_o have_v say_v these_o thing_n unto_o you_o sorrow_n have_v fill_v your_o heart_n this_o intimation_n tend_v to_o guard_v their_o heart_n and_o the_o news_n contain_v what_o be_v useful_a and_o comfortable_a for_o they_o v._o 7._o and_o chap._n 14.28_o and_o yet_o they_o fill_v they_o with_o sorrow_n 4._o a_o great_a cause_n of_o saint_n excessive_a distemper_n under_o the_o dispensation_n wherewith_o they_o be_v exercise_v be_v because_o they_o be_v too_o much_o addict_v to_o sense_n so_o that_o if_o it_o be_v not_o satisfy_v with_o the_o outward_a or_o inward_a sensible_a comfort_n which_o sometime_o accompany_v profession_n and_o religion_n or_o if_o they_o be_v deprive_v of_o what_o be_v sensible_a sweet_a and_o pleasant_a to_o they_o they_o account_v all_o to_o be_v go_v whereas_o believe_a be_v more_o comfortable_a and_o useful_a and_o because_o they_o look_v for_o great_a thing_n in_o the_o world_n and_o therefore_o be_v confound_v with_o disappointment_n of_o their_o expectation_n for_o it_o be_v upon_o these_o ground_n these_o news_n do_v so_o afflict_v they_o they_o be_v exceed_o take_v up_o with_o his_o sensible_a bodily_a presence_n and_o hope_v to_o be_v advance_v in_o the_o world_n by_o he_o when_o he_o shall_v come_v to_o that_o temporal_a kingdom_n which_o they_o dream_v of_o and_o therefore_o can_v not_o endure_v to_o hear_v of_o his_o removal_n which_o deprive_v they_o of_o their_o present_a enjoyment_n and_o future_a carnal_a hope_n 5._o immoderate_a and_o excessive_a sorrow_n be_v exceed_o sinful_a as_o for_o other_o reason_n so_o because_o it_o stupifi_v man_n and_o lay_v they_o by_o from_o needful_a duty_n to_o which_o they_o be_v call_v in_o their_o difficulty_n for_o he_o reprehend_v their_o sorrow_n not_o only_o in_o itself_o but_o as_o it_o cause_v that_o sinful_a negligence_n which_o he_o reprehend_v five_o 4_o none_o of_o you_o ask_v i_o whither_o go_v thou_o but_o because_o i_o say_v these_o thing_n unto_o you_o sorrow_n have_v fill_v your_o heart_n verse_n 7._o nevertheless_o i_o tell_v you_o the_o truth_n it_o be_v expedient_a for_o you_o that_o i_o go_v away_o for_o if_o i_o go_v not_o away_o the_o full_a or_o fulfil_v verse_n 25._o these_o thing_n have_v i_o speak_v unto_o you_o in_o proverb_n the_o time_n come_v when_o i_o shall_v no_o more_o speak_v unto_o you_o in_o proverb_n but_o i_o shall_v show_v you_o plain_o of_o the_o father_n in_o the_o second_o place_n christ_n insist_o upon_o and_o amplifi_v that_o encouragement_n which_o be_v first_o propound_v v._o 23._o concern_v increase_n in_o knowledge_n and_o as_o there_o he_o propound_v the_o promise_n in_o opposition_n to_o their_o present_a necessity_n of_o ask_v question_n so_o here_o it_o be_v propound_v in_o opposition_n to_o his_o present_a way_n of_o teach_v and_o that_o he_o will_v not_o speak_v to_o they_o in_o proverb_n or_o parable_n as_o former_o but_o will_v full_o and_o plain_o reveal_v the_o father_n to_o they_o as_o for_o these_o thing_n which_o christ_n say_v he_o speak_v in_o proverb_n they_o be_v not_o to_o be_v restrict_v to_o the_o immediate_o precede_v purpose_n in_o this_o chapter_n but_o shall_v be_v more_o general_o extend_v to_o the_o most_o part_n of_o his_o doctrine_n hitherto_o particular_o in_o this_o last_o sermon_n much_o whereof_o they_o do_v not_o understand_v as_o appear_v in_o their_o frequent_a objection_n reason_n and_o question_n he_o say_v he_o have_v speak_v these_o thing_n in_o proverb_n or_o parable_n whereby_o we_o be_v not_o to_o understand_v any_o dark_a or_o aenigmatick_a speech_n as_o if_o his_o doctrine_n have_v be_v obscure_a in_o itself_o for_o his_o doctrine_n be_v plain_a in_o itself_o and_o what_o he_o speak_v dark_o to_o the_o multitude_n he_o explain_v to_o they_o but_o the_o meaning_n be_v partly_o that_o much_o of_o that_o he_o speak_v however_o it_o be_v clear_a in_o itself_o yet_o to_o they_o it_o seem_v as_o obscure_a as_o if_o it_o have_v be_v all_o parable_n and_o so_o appear_v from_o five_o 16_o 17_o etc._n etc._n but_o after_o the_o spirit_n come_v he_o be_v to_o speak_v plain_o and_o full_o even_o in_o respect_n of_o their_o conception_n and_o understanding_n partly_o that_o christ_n in_o regard_n of_o their_o weakness_n and_o incapacity_n have_v but_o brief_o touch_v many_o thing_n which_o will_v be_v but_o dark_a to_o they_o till_o the_o spirit_n shall_v come_v as_o v._o 12_o 13._o and_o have_v often_o make_v use_n of_o similitude_n and_o parable_n in_o this_o sermon_n and_o at_o other_o time_n whereby_o albeit_o he_o condescend_v to_o their_o capacity_n yet_o as_o he_o say_v chap_n 3.12_o he_o speak_v but_o earthly_a thing_n and_o not_o heavenly_a that_o be_v point_v out_o heavenly_a thing_n by_o earthly_a resemblance_n which_o do_v eclipse_n much_o of_o the_o lustre_n these_o truth_n shall_v have_v when_o he_o shall_v teach_v they_o plain_o by_o his_o spirit_n
