worship_n christian_n i_o beseech_v you_o account_v high_o of_o the_o time_n of_o your_o worship_n you_o have_v be_v so_o long_a time_n at_o prayer_n yea_o but_o how_o much_o of_o it_o have_v be_v lose_v because_o you_o have_v not_o prepare_v before_o hand_n for_o it_o perhaps_o you_o kneel_v upon_o your_o knee_n but_o you_o be_v a_o long_a time_n before_o you_o can_v get_v your_o heartâ—_n wâ—â—m_n at_o your_o work_n â—hy_a you_o shall_v have_v be_v warm_a before_o you_o have_v come_v it_o be_v so_o oftentimes_o with_o many_o man_n when_o they_o meet_v together_o and_o there_o be_v no_o preparation_n for_o their_o business_n they_o come_v together_o and_o they_o be_v a_o long_a time_n before_o they_o can_v buckle_v to_o the_o business_n that_o they_o come_v about_o because_o there_o be_v no_o preparation_n but_o if_o there_o be_v preparation_n make_v that_o every_o man_n know_v before_o hand_n what_o his_o work_n be_v they_o can_v fall_v to_o it_o and_o they_o can_v dispatch_v as_o much_o in_o one_o hour_n as_o other_o do_v in_o two_o or_o three_o but_o of_o that_o we_o shall_v speak_v more_o afterward_o three_o there_o must_v be_v preparation_n because_o our_o heart_n be_v natural_o exceed_o unprepared_a for_o every_o good_a work_n we_o be_v all_o natural_o even_o reprobate_a to_o every_o good_a work_n the_o duty_n of_o god_n worship_n be_v high_a and_o spiritual_a and_o holy_a thing_n but_o by_o nature_n our_o heart_n grovel_v in_o the_o dirâ—_n and_o we_o be_v carnal_a sensual_a drossy_a dead_a slight_a sottish_a and_o vain_a altogether_o unfit_a to_o come_v into_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n oh_o that_o we_o be_v but_o apprehensive_a and_o sensible_a of_o the_o unfitness_n of_o our_o heart_n to_o come_v into_o god_n presence_n perhaps_o because_o thou_o know_v not_o god_n thou_o can_v rush_v into_o his_o presence_n without_o any_o more_o ado_n but_o if_o thou_o know_v thyself_o and_o god_n thou_o can_v not_o but_o see_v thyself_o altogether_o unfit_a for_o his_o presence_n and_o so_o as_o to_o wonder_v that_o the_o lordshould_n not_o spurn_v thou_o out_o of_o his_o presence_n every_o time_n thou_o come_v unto_o he_o there_o have_v need_v then_o be_v preparation_n because_o we_o be_v so_o unfit_a to_o come_v into_o his_o presence_n four_o there_o have_v need_n be_v preparation_n because_o of_o the_o great_a hindrance_n of_o the_o worship_n of_o god_n this_o business_n and_o the_o other_o business_n will_v hinder_v the_o entanglement_n they_o will_v hinder_v the_o temptation_n of_o the_o devil_n they_o will_v hinder_v sometime_o the_o indisposition_n of_o our_o body_n do_v mighty_o hinder_v and_o the_o stir_n of_o the_o passion_n of_o our_o mind_n they_o hinder_v if_o there_o be_v any_o business_n fall_v out_o amiss_o in_o the_o family_n and_o any_o thing_n go_v but_o cross_a how_o be_v we_o put_v off_o the_o hinge_n and_o make_v unfit_a for_o holy_a duty_n there_o have_v need_n be_v preparation_n therefore_o because_o there_o be_v so_o many_o hindrance_n in_o the_o way_n many_o of_o you_o will_v complain_v that_o you_o be_v much_o hinder_v but_o do_v you_o do_v what_o you_o can_v to_o make_v preparation_n before_o hand_n do_v the_o hindrance_n that_o you_o complain_v of_o put_v you_o on_o to_o be_v so_o much_o the_o more_o careful_a to_o make_v due_a preparation_n for_o holy_a duty_n five_o we_o find_v that_o the_o heathen_n themselves_o by_o the_o light_n of_o nature_n when_o they_o do_v but_o worship_v their_o idol_n god_n they_o will_v make_v some_o preparation_n such_o as_o be_v suitable_a to_o those_o god_n that_o they_o worship_v therefore_o they_o will_v wash_v their_o flesh_n and_o purge_v themselves_o but_o though_o their_o preparation_n be_v but_o very_o poor_a yet_o they_o teach_v we_o thus_o much_o that_o they_o be_v convin_v in_o their_o conscience_n that_o when_o god_n be_v to_o be_v worship_v people_n shall_v be_v prepare_v the_o sixth_o &_o last_o reason_n have_v a_o great_a deal_n in_o it_o which_o i_o beseech_v you_o consider_v of_o we_o find_v that_o the_o scripture_n do_v make_v the_o uprightnes_n of_o the_o heart_n much_o to_o consist_v in_o preparation_n for_o worship_n seek_v the_o lord_n say_v god_n i_o look_v upon_o all_o rehoboam_n do_v as_o nothing_o i_o look_v upon_o his_o way_n as_o evil_n and_o himself_o as_o a_o wicked_a man_n why_o because_o he_o do_v not_o heart_n to_o god_n this_o be_v one_o note_v by_o the_o way_n whereby_o you_o may_v come_v to_o know_v whether_o you_o have_v be_v immoderate_a in_o company_n at_o any_o time_n god_n give_v not_o man_n liberty_n to_o be_v busy_a in_o any_o outward_a occasion_n in_o the_o world_n so_o as_o to_o unfit_a they_o for_o his_o service_n preparation_n consist_v in_o that_o in_o watch_v over_o your_o heart_n that_o you_o may_v not_o be_v unfit_a for_o any_o holy_a duty_n when_o god_n call_v you_o to_o it_o but_o that_o you_o may_v be_v ready_a even_o to_o every_o good_a work_n the_o five_o be_v this_o preparation_n consist_v in_o the_o readiness_n of_o the_o faculty_n of_o the_o soul_n and_o the_o grace_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n present_o to_o act_v upon_o the_o set_n upon_o a_o holy_a duty_n when_o a_o man_n or_o woman_n shall_v find_v the_o faculty_n of_o their_o soul_n and_o the_o grace_n that_o be_v in_o they_o to_o be_v ready_a to_o act_v as_o soon_o as_o ever_o they_o fall_v upon_o duty_n just_a as_o you_o see_v a_o company_n of_o ringerâ—_n when_o they_o have_v make_v all_o preparation_n for_o the_o raise_n of_o the_o bell_n then_o in_o a_o instant_n when_o they_o our_o soul_n and_o grace_n though_o now_o we_o be_v not_o upon_o duty_n yet_o we_o shall_v be_v so_o ready_a that_o as_o it_o be_v upon_o a_o pull_n all_o the_o faculty_n of_o our_o soul_n and_o grace_n of_o god_n spirit_n shall_v work_v in_o a_o melodious_a way_n there_o be_v those_o that_o keep_v their_o heart_n so_o prepare_v as_o at_o the_o very_a first_o moment_n that_o they_o set_v about_o the_o duty_n of_o worship_n all_o faculty_n and_o grace_n begin_v to_o act_v and_o to_o stir_v and_o be_v work_v towards_o god_n as_o a_o fire_n when_o all_o the_o matter_n be_v ready_a lay_v present_o it_o come_v to_o be_v kindle_v and_o flame_n out_o and_o thus_o it_o shall_v be_v with_o our_o heart_n so_o that_o now_o you_o see_v wherein_o preparation_n of_o our_o heart_n to_o duty_n consist_v the_o next_o thing_n be_v the_o excellency_n of_o this_o preparation_n and_o that_o may_v be_v in_o way_n of_o application_n to_o you_o to_o make_v you_o to_o be_v in_o love_n with_o preparation_n for_o holy_a duty_n there_o be_v abundance_n of_o good_a in_o it_o first_o by_o this_o mean_n we_o come_v to_o make_v every_o duty_n of_o worship_n easy_a to_o we_o thing_n be_v difficult_a when_o we_o come_v upon_o they_o unprepared_a if_o you_o have_v a_o friend_n come_v to_o dinner_n or_o supper_n to_o you_o and_o shall_v come_v sudden_o and_o you_o have_v nothing_o prepare_v there_o will_v be_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o stir_n in_o the_o house_n but_o if_o you_o have_v every_o thing_n prepare_v it_o will_v be_v carry_v on_o in_o a_o easy_a way_n and_o the_o reason_n why_o people_n complain_v so_o much_o of_o difficulty_n in_o duty_n it_o be_v because_o their_o heart_n be_v not_o prepare_v indeed_o we_o have_v natural_o many_o thing_n to_o keep_v we_o off_o from_o god_n but_o now_o when_o the_o heart_n be_v prepare_v for_o a_o holy_a duty_n it_o go_v off_o as_o easy_a to_o god_n even_o into_o the_o infinite_a ocean_n of_o all_o mercy_n and_o goodness_n as_o a_o ship_n go_v off_o to_o be_v launch_v when_o you_o have_v make_v preparation_n for_o it_o &_o the_o heart_n can_v go_v with_o a_o holy_a boldness_n to_o god_n when_o you_o have_v make_v preparation_n for_o holy_a duty_n in_o job_n 11._o the_o place_n which_o i_o quote_v before_o for_o the_o work_n of_o preparation_n do_v but_o consider_v a_o verse_n or_o two_o further_a and_o you_o shall_v find_v what_o abundance_n of_o good_a there_o come_v upon_o the_o keep_n of_o the_o heart_n prepare_v in_o thing_n that_o be_v good_a verse_n 13._o if_o thou_o prepare_v thy_o heart_n look_v upon_o god_n as_o a_o omniscient_a god_n as_o a_o god_n infinite_o understand_v all_o thing_n now_o what_o do_v this_o call_n for_o first_o if_o god_n be_v a_o god_n of_o infinite_a understanding_n then_o let_v not_o i_o bring_v a_o blind_a sacrifice_n to_o god_n then_o let_v not_o i_o bring_v a_o ignorant_a heart_n to_o god_n this_o be_v the_o excellency_n of_o a_o understand_a creature_n to_o know_v the_o rule_n and_o end_n of_o its_o own_o action_n now_o thou_o come_v to_o worship_v a_o infinite_a god_n of_o infinite_a understanding_n then_o know_v the_o rule_n of_o what_o you_o do_v and_o know_v the_o end_n of_o what_o you_o do_v and_o come_v with_o understanding_n into_o his_o presence_n second_o if_o he_o be_v so_o understanding_n come_v with_o a_o free_a open_a heart_n to_o open_v whatsoever_o be_v in_o thy_o heart_n to_o god_n take_v heed_n of_o keep_v any_o secret_a resolution_n in_o thy_o own_o heart_n god_n know_v thou_o and_o can_v tell_v how_o to_o find_v thou_o out_o god_n know_v all_o that_o be_v in_o thy_o heart_n before_o all_o the_o secret_a baseness_n that_o be_v in_o thy_o heart_n the_o lord_n do_v understand_v it_o the_o lord_n eye_n be_v a_o pierce_a eye_n he_o see_v thorough_a and_o through_o thy_o heart_n it_o be_v a_o vain_a thing_n for_o thou_o to_o come_v and_o conceal_v any_o thing_n before_o he_o you_o will_v say_v if_o god_n understand_v a_o man_n heart_n what_o need_v he_o come_v and_o confess_v yes_o he_o require_v it_o as_o thy_o duty_n that_o thou_o shall_v come_v and_o open_v all_o before_o he_o in_o spite_n of_o thy_o heart_n thou_o can_v not_o cover_v any_o thing_n from_o the_o lord_n eye_n but_o the_o lord_n will_v see_v whether_o thou_o be_v willing_a of_o thyself_o that_o he_o shall_v understand_v all_o god_n do_v not_o require_v we_o to_o come_v and_o confess_v our_o sin_n that_o so_o he_o may_v know_v that_o which_o he_o know_v not_o before_o but_o for_o this_o end_n that_o there_o may_v be_v a_o testimony_n that_o thou_o be_v willing_a that_o he_o shall_v know_v all_o that_o be_v in_o thy_o heart_n therefore_o now_o when_o thou_o come_v to_o worship_v he_o ransack_v every_o corner_n of_o thy_o heart_n and_o confess_v all_o before_o the_o lord_n and_o give_v glory_n to_o his_o name_n as_o that_o god_n that_o be_v a_o all-seeing_a god_n that_o know_v all_o the_o wind_n and_o turn_n of_o thy_o heart_n now_o meditate_v of_o these_o thing_n that_o be_v present_v to_o thou_o and_o it_o will_v be_v a_o mighty_a mean_n to_o help_v thou_o to_o sanctify_v his_o name_n 8_o god_n be_v a_o god_n of_o infinite_a wisdom_n therefore_o when_o we_o come_v to_o worship_n god_n let_v we_o be_v ashamed_a of_o our_o folly_n when_o thou_o come_v to_o have_v to_o deal_v with_o god_n look_v upon_o he_o as_o a_o god_n of_o infinite_a wisdom_n and_o i_o say_v be_v thou_o ashamed_a of_o thy_o folly_n then_o and_o do_v thou_o exercise_v the_o grace_n of_o wisdom_n too_o when_o thou_o come_v to_o god_n that_o be_v by_o propound_v right_a end_n of_o which_o we_o speak_v before_o that_o be_v one_o part_n of_o wisdom_n to_o have_v right_a end_n and_o right_a mean_n towards_o those_o end_n so_o that_o the_o meditation_n of_o the_o wisdom_n of_o god_n when_o we_o come_v to_o worship_v he_o will_v further_o we_o to_o sanctify_v his_o name_n and_o further_o this_o be_v to_o sanctify_v god_n wisdom_n when_o thou_o come_v into_o god_n presence_n in_o thy_o great_a strait_n deny_v thy_o own_o wisdom_n come_v with_o a_o resolution_n to_o be_v guide_v by_o the_o wisdom_n of_o god_n in_o this_o manner_n lord_n i_o know_v not_o how_o to_o order_v my_o step_n there_o be_v much_o folly_n and_o vanity_n in_o my_o heart_n but_o thou_o be_v a_o god_n of_o infinite_a wisdom_n i_o come_v to_o thou_o for_o direction_n and_o i_o profess_v here_o i_o be_o willing_a to_o give_v up_o my_o whole_a soul_n to_o be_v guide_v by_o thy_o wisdom_n if_o every_o time_n we_o come_v to_o worship_n god_n we_o come_v thus_o oh_o lord_n whatsoever_o our_o thought_n have_v be_v heretofore_o yet_o if_o thou_o shall_v but_o reveal_v thy_o mind_n to_o we_o we_o will_v hearken_v to_o thou_o lord_n we_o believe_v that_o thy_o wisdom_n it_o be_v thyself_o and_o therefore_o we_o profess_v to_o give_v up_o ourselves_o to_o thy_o wisdom_n now_o this_o be_v to_o sanctify_v the_o name_n of_o god_n 9_o consider_v the_o holiness_n of_o god_n god_n be_v a_o god_n infinite_o pure_a from_o all_o sin_n and_o therefore_o when_o we_o come_v to_o worship_n god_n we_o must_v be_v ashamed_a of_o our_o unholiness_n as_o the_o prophet_n in_o isa_n 6._o when_o he_o hear_v the_o seraphim_n cry_v holy_a holy_a holy_a be_v the_o lord_n of_o host_n he_o fall_v down_o and_o say_v woe_n be_v i_o for_o i_o be_o undo_v because_o i_o be_o a_o man_n of_o unclean_a lip_n and_o be_v god_n a_o holy_a god_n then_o let_v i_o take_v heed_n when_o i_o come_v before_o he_o that_o i_o bring_v not_o with_o i_o a_o love_n to_o any_o sin_n for_o the_o lord_n hate_v it_o and_o let_v i_o take_v heed_n that_o i_o do_v not_o cast_v dirâ—_n in_o the_o very_a face_n of_o god_n holiness_n but_o give_v up_o my_o soul_n sanctify_v god_n name_n when_o the_o consideration_n of_o this_o attribute_n of_o god_n have_v such_o effect_n upon_o my_o heart_n that_o i_o labour_n upon_o this_o to_o come_v with_o a_o suitable_a heart_n before_o god_n 10_o when_o thou_o come_v before_o god_n
one_o and_o afterward_o they_o have_v fall_v off_o they_o be_v wont_v constant_o in_o their_o family_n and_o in_o secret_a in_o their_o chamber_n to_o be_v worship_v of_o god_n and_o they_o account_v it_o the_o very_a joy_n of_o their_o life_n for_o the_o present_a to_o be_v worship_v of_o god_n but_o it_o be_v not_o so_o with_o they_o now_o as_o it_o be_v yea_o they_o be_v fall_v off_o it_o may_v be_v from_o their_o very_a profession_n of_o religion_n and_o turn_v loose_v and_o now_o to_o be_v in_o vain_a company_n to_o drink_v or_o play_v be_v better_a to_o they_o than_o any_o service_n or_o worship_n of_o god_n they_o prize_v more_o to_o be_v in_o company_n with_o their_o sport_n than_o to_o hear_v a_o sermon_n or_o to_o be_v in_o communion_n with_o the_o people_n of_o god_n in_o prayer_n heretofore_o they_o will_v not_o have_v change_v one_o short_a time_n of_o private_a communion_n with_o god_n for_o the_o enjoyment_n of_o a_o great_a deal_n of_o pleasure_n and_o content_a in_o the_o world_n but_o now_o it_o be_v otherwise_o with_o they_o how_o come_v it_o to_o pass_v that_o these_o be_v apostatise_v thus_o from_o god_n sure_o here_o be_v the_o ground_n of_o it_o that_o they_o do_v not_o sanctify_v god_n name_n in_o holy_a duty_n at_o the_o most_o it_o be_v but_o a_o work_n of_o conscience_n that_o put_v they_o upon_o they_o and_o they_o have_v but_o some_o flash_n there_o be_v no_o real_a sanctification_n of_o their_o heart_n whereby_o they_o do_v sanctify_v the_o name_n of_o god_n in_o holy_a duty_n and_o upon_o this_o it_o be_v that_o they_o have_v leave_v off_o this_o i_o dare_v say_v that_o there_o be_v never_o any_o soul_n that_o do_v know_v what_o it_o be_v to_o sanctify_v god_n name_n in_o worship_n that_o ever_o be_v weary_a of_o worship_v god_n it_o may_v be_v some_o of_o you_o may_v say_v we_o have_v hear_v that_o there_o be_v much_o require_v in_o sanctify_a god_n name_v in_o duty_n and_o that_o be_v the_o only_a way_n to_o weary_a the_o soul_n and_o to_o make_v it_o fall_v off_o oh_o no_o as_o we_o say_v the_o last_o day_n there_o be_v not_o any_o one_o thing_n that_o have_v be_v open_v for_o the_o sanctify_a of_o god_n name_n in_o duty_n that_o any_o gracious_a heart_n can_v tell_v how_o to_o miss_v and_o the_o more_o we_o do_v sanctify_v his_o name_n the_o more_o we_o shall_v be_v in_o love_n with_o worship_n for_o it_o be_v from_o hence_o that_o those_o that_o sanctify_v god_n name_n in_o worship_n will_v hold_v out_o because_o they_o will_v find_v the_o sweetness_n of_o worship_n they_o will_v meet_v with_o god_n in_o holy_a duty_n and_o so_o they_o come_v to_o be_v encourage_v in_o worship_n but_o as_o for_o other_o who_o do_v worship_n god_n in_o a_o formal_a way_n their_o worship_n will_v prove_v to_o be_v tedious_a to_o they_o for_o they_o perform_v the_o duty_n but_o do_v not_o find_v god_n in_o the_o duty_n in_o that_o spiritual_a way_n as_o the_o saint_n do_v if_o they_o think_v they_o meet_v with_o god_n it_o be_v but_o a_o imagination_n rather_o than_o any_o real_a meeting_n with_o he_o they_o do_v not_o find_v the_o influence_n of_o god_n in_o their_o soul_n in_o holy_a duty_n so_o as_o those_o do_v that_o sanctify_v god_n name_n in_o holy_a duty_n here_o than_o you_o see_v the_o reason_n why_o we_o be_v to_o sanctify_v god_n name_n in_o holy_a duty_n now_o then_o for_o the_o application_n of_o all_o this_o 1_o if_o all_o this_o which_o you_o have_v hear_v be_v require_v of_o we_o for_o the_o sanctify_a of_o god_n name_n hence_o we_o see_v how_o little_a cause_n we_o have_v to_o rest_v upon_o any_o duty_n of_o worship_n that_o we_o do_v perform_v certain_o the_o duty_n of_o worship_n that_o we_o perform_v be_v no_o such_o thing_n as_o be_v fit_a to_o be_v rest_v upon_o for_o life_n and_o for_o salvation_n and_o yet_o for_o the_o most_o part_n there_o be_v scarce_o any_o thing_n that_o people_n have_v to_o rest_v upon_o or_o to_o tender_v up_o to_o god_n for_o acception_n to_o eternal_a life_n but_o only_o their_o prayer_n and_o their_o come_n to_o hear_v and_o receive_v of_o the_o communion_n and_o such_o duty_n that_o they_o perform_v this_o be_v all_o they_o have_v to_o tender_v up_o for_o life_n and_o for_o salvation_n perhaps_o they_o may_v sometime_o speak_v of_o christ_n but_o the_o truth_n be_v that_o which_o their_o heart_n rest_v upon_o for_o acceptation_n to_o eternal_a life_n be_v this_o and_o be_v it_o but_o this_o it_o be_v a_o weak_a prop_n a_o rot_a reed_n that_o thou_o have_v to_o rest_v upon_o let_v the_o duty_n of_o worship_n be_v perform_v never_o so_o well_o suppose_v we_o do_v sanctify_v god_n name_n to_o the_o uttermost_a that_o be_v possible_a for_o any_o creature_n to_o do_v in_o this_o world_n yet_o such_o duty_n be_v not_o to_o be_v rest_v upon_o abraham_n isaac_n and_o jacob_n and_o the_o apostle_n the_o most_o holy_a man_n that_o ever_o do_v perform_v duty_n in_o the_o most_o holy_a manner_n yet_o woe_n to_o they_o if_o they_o have_v nothing_o to_o rest_v upon_o but_o their_o duty_n consider_v therefore_o of_o this_o that_o what_o thou_o must_v rest_v upon_o for_o acceptation_n to_o eternal_a life_n it_o must_v be_v that_o that_o must_v have_v so_o much_o worth_n in_o it_o as_o must_v satisfy_v for_o all_o thy_o sin_n that_o former_o thou_o have_v commit_v yea_o and_o for_o all_o the_o sin_n that_o ever_o thou_o shall_v commit_v now_o i_o appeal_v unto_o any_o one_o conscience_n be_v that_o which_o thou_o perform_v as_o prayer_n or_o receive_v the_o sacrament_n or_o hear_v of_o the_o word_n such_o a_o work_n as_o in_o thy_o conscience_n thou_o can_v think_v it_o have_v so_o much_o worth_n in_o it_o as_o to_o satisfy_v god_n for_o all_o the_o sin_n that_o ever_o thou_o do_v or_o shall_v commit_v i_o be_o persuade_v if_o people_n that_o have_v rest_v upon_o duty_n heretofore_o will_v but_o serious_o have_v this_o thought_n in_o their_o mind_n that_o i_o must_v rest_v upon_o nothing_o for_o my_o acceptation_n for_o life_n and_o salvation_n but_o that_o that_o must_v have_v such_o worth_n in_o it_o as_o to_o satisfy_v god_n for_o all_o my_o sin_n that_o ever_o have_v be_v commit_v or_o shall_v be_v commit_v this_o will_v take_v they_o off_o for_o ever_o from_o rest_v in_o duty_n yea_o and_o it_o must_v be_v such_o as_o must_v be_v the_o object_n of_o the_o infinite_a holiness_n of_o god_n to_o take_v content_a in_o sure_o the_o duty_n that_o we_o perform_v be_v no_o such_o duty_n to_o rest_n upon_o the_o truth_n be_v if_o we_o will_v serious_o consider_v what_o they_o be_v as_o they_o come_v from_o we_o we_o will_v even_o abhor_v ourselves_o in_o dust_n and_o ash_n and_o account_v of_o they_o as_o the_o prophet_n speak_v of_o his_o own_o righteousness_n as_o menstruous_a clothes_n they_o be_v such_o as_o if_o god_n shall_v deal_v with_o we_o as_o just_o he_o may_v do_v he_o may_v cast_v they_o and_o we_o to_o the_o dog_n for_o they_o be_v as_o the_o prophet_n say_v tear_v and_o rend_v sacrifice_n now_o if_o a_o man_n in_o the_o time_n of_o the_o law_n shall_v bring_v to_o the_o lord_n a_o sacrifice_n that_o be_v all_o tear_v and_o rend_v before_o he_o bring_v it_o will_v such_o a_o sacrifice_n have_v be_v accept_v all_o the_o duty_n we_o perform_v as_o they_o come_v from_o we_o they_o be_v such_o we_o read_v in_o exod._n 22.31_o concern_v such_o thing_n as_o be_v tear_v and_o rend_v that_o they_o shall_v cast_v they_o to_o the_o dog_n you_o shall_v be_v holy_a man_n unto_o i_o say_v he_o verse_n ult_n neither_o shall_v you_o eat_v any_o flesh_n that_o be_v tear_v of_o beast_n in_o the_o field_n you_o shall_v cast_v it_o to_o the_o dog_n because_o you_o be_v holy_a man_n unto_o i_o must_v the_o people_n of_o israel_n manifest_v their_o holiness_n in_o this_o that_o they_o must_v eat_v nothing_o tear_v by_o beast_n but_o cast_v it_o unto_o dog_n or_o be_v the_o holiness_n of_o the_o people_n of_o israel_n such_o as_o god_n require_v they_o that_o they_o must_v eat_v nothing_o that_o be_v tear_v by_o beast_n what_o then_o be_v the_o holiness_n of_o the_o infinite_a god_n our_o service_n that_o we_o perform_v be_v of_o themselves_o such_o as_o be_v tear_v by_o our_o beastly_a lust_n many_o time_n how_o many_o be_v there_o that_o bring_v sacrifice_n to_o god_n that_o be_v as_o a_o carrion_n that_o swine_n have_v be_v tear_v before_o hand_n and_o yet_o these_o be_v the_o sacrifice_n that_o they_o bring_v to_o god_n and_o not_o only_o think_v that_o god_n shall_v accept_v of_o they_o but_o they_o do_v rest_n upon_o they_o for_o their_o acceptation_n to_o eternal_a life_n
how_o infinite_o be_v these_o people_n mistake_v how_o little_o do_v they_o know_v of_o god_n or_o of_o the_o way_n of_o acceptation_n to_o eternal_a life_n that_o be_v the_o first_o use_n 2_o second_o if_o all_o this_o be_v require_v for_o the_o sanctify_a of_o god_n name_n in_o duty_n that_o we_o can_v perform_v the_o duty_n of_o worship_n without_o this_o behaviour_n of_o soul_n hence_o we_o see_v that_o the_o work_n of_o religion_n be_v a_o hard_a and_o difficult_a work_n to_o flesh_n &_o blood_n a_o main_a work_n of_o religion_n be_v the_o work_n of_o worship_v of_o god_n for_o indeed_o those_o that_o be_v not_o religious_a and_o godly_a they_o never_o worship_v god_n to_o any_o purpose_n then_o we_o come_v to_o worship_n god_n when_o we_o begin_v to_o be_v religious_a and_o godly_a now_o it_o must_v needs_o be_v a_o busy_a work_n to_o be_v a_o religious_a and_o a_o godly_a man_n because_o there_o be_v so_o much_o require_v in_o the_o sanctify_a of_o god_n name_n in_o holy_a duty_n many_o people_n think_v it_o a_o very_a easy_a matter_n to_o worship_n god_n and_o the_o worship_n that_o they_o tender_v up_o to_o god_n be_v a_o easy_a matter_n there_o be_v little_a in_o it_o if_o it_o be_v nothing_o else_o to_o worship_n god_n but_o mere_o to_o go_v and_o say_v a_o few_o prayer_n and_o come_v and_o hear_v a_o sermon_n and_o take_v a_o piece_n of_o bread_n and_o wine_n than_o it_o be_v the_o easy_a matter_n in_o the_o world_n to_o come_v and_o worship_n god_n but_o there_o be_v more_o require_v in_o the_o duty_n of_o god_n worship_n than_o thou_o have_v be_v acquaint_v with_o there_o be_v a_o power_n of_o godliness_n in_o it_o that_o text_n of_o scripture_n be_v a_o very_a famous_a one_o that_o show_v the_o difficulty_n that_o there_o be_v in_o the_o worship_n of_o god_n and_o how_o man_n be_v mistake_v in_o think_v it_o such_o a_o easy_a and_o slight_a matter_n to_o worship_n god_n it_o be_v in_o josh_n 24.16.19_o where_o joshua_n do_v call_v upon_o the_o people_n to_o worship_n god_n and_o they_o come_v off_o present_o and_o say_v they_o will_v worship_v he_o so_o you_o shall_v find_v they_o profess_v verse_n 16._o but_o mark_v what_o the_o text_n say_v in_o verse_n 19_o and_o joshua_n say_v unto_o the_o people_n you_o can_v serve_v the_o lord_n for_o he_o be_v a_o holy_a god_n he_o be_v a_o jealous_a god_n and_o he_o will_v not_o forgive_v your_o transgression_n and_o your_o sin_n as_o if_o he_o shall_v say_v you_o think_v it_o be_v nothing_o to_o serve_v the_o lord_n and_o that_o it_o be_v a_o easy_a matter_n to_o serve_v manner_n of_o heart_n than_o yet_o you_o have_v and_o you_o must_v understand_v his_o worship_n in_o another_o manner_n than_o yet_o you_o do_v the_o lord_n will_v be_v sanctify_v in_o those_o that_o draw_v nigh_o he_o and_o therefore_o until_o you_o understand_v god_n and_o his_o way_n and_o worship_n you_o can_v serve_v the_o lord_n know_v that_o the_o work_n of_o religion_n be_v a_o very_a hard_a and_o difficult_a work_n for_o it_o require_v all_o this_o and_o therefore_o the_o soul_n have_v need_n be_v very_o diligent_a and_o laborious_a that_o will_v come_v to_o worship_n god_n in_o a_o right_a way_n 3_o three_o hence_o be_v a_o use_n of_o humiliatton_n to_o we_o all_o even_o to_o the_o best_a of_o we_o oh_o how_o little_a how_o little_a have_v the_o best_a of_o we_o all_o sanctify_a the_o name_n of_o god_n how_o far_o have_v we_o all_o come_v short_a of_o the_o sanctify_a of_o god_n name_n in_o holy_a duty_n and_o when_o we_o look_v abroad_o in_o the_o world_n and_o see_v what_o poor_a service_n god_n have_v general_o from_o the_o man_n and_o woman_n of_o the_o earth_n it_o shall_v make_v our_o heart_n bleed_v within_o we_o where_o almost_o be_v the_o man_n or_o woman_n that_o according_a to_o that_o text_n in_o isa_n stir_v up_o himself_o to_o take_v hold_n on_o god_n and_o i_o very_o believe_v that_o in_o the_o open_n of_o this_o point_n of_o sanctify_v the_o name_n of_o god_n in_o holy_a duty_n that_o i_o have_v be_v in_o the_o bosom_n of_o as_o many_o as_o in_o the_o open_n of_o any_o point_n whatsoever_o and_o as_o many_o may_v have_v cause_n to_o lay_v their_o hand_n upon_o their_o heart_n and_o say_v certain_o i_o have_v come_v short_a of_o what_o be_v require_v here_o and_o have_v not_o be_v acquaint_v with_o this_o way_n this_o mystery_n of_o godliness_n in_o sanctify_a god_n name_v in_o holy_a duty_n as_o i_o ought_v to_o be_v o_o be_v humble_v for_o this_o for_o all_o the_o uncleanness_n in_o your_o heart_n in_o the_o performance_n of_o duty_n in_o exod._n 27.4_o 5._o you_o read_v that_o at_o the_o altar_n where_o the_o sacrifice_n be_v to_o be_v offer_v the_o lord_n require_v that_o there_o shall_v be_v a_o grate_n make_v thou_o shall_v make_v for_o it_o mean_v the_o altar_n a_o grate_n of_o network_n of_o brass_n and_o upon_o the_o net_n shall_v thou_o make_v four_o brazen_a ring_n in_o the_o four_o corner_n thereof_o our_o service_n when_o we_o come_v to_o offer_v and_o tender_v they_o up_o to_o god_n so_o that_o we_o have_v cause_n i_o say_v to_o to_o be_v humble_v for_o holy_a offering_n there_o be_v many_o uncleanness_n lie_v or_o wrong_v of_o other_o and_o such_o kind_n of_o sin_n as_o those_o be_v so_o that_o they_o see_v not_o such_o need_n of_o humiliation_n in_o this_o regard_n unless_o it_o be_v for_o that_o their_o nature_n be_v as_o corrupt_v as_o any_o though_o they_o break_v not_o forth_o into_o those_o actual_a gross_a sin_n but_o the_o main_a work_n of_o the_o humiliation_n of_o those_o that_o be_v godly_a it_o be_v to_o be_v humble_v for_o their_o thought_n for_o the_o mispending_a of_o time_n and_o for_o not_o sanctify_v of_o god_n name_n in_o holy_a duty_n those_o be_v the_o main_a thing_n that_o be_v the_o subject_n of_o the_o humiliation_n of_o the_o saint_n beside_o the_o body_n of_o sin_n and_o death_n that_o they_o carry_v about_o with_o they_o and_o it_o will_v be_v a_o good_a sign_n that_o thy_o heart_n have_v some_o tenderness_n in_o it_o when_o thou_o make_v these_o to_o be_v the_o matter_n of_o thy_o humiliation_n carnal_a people_n little_a be_v trouble_v for_o these_o if_o they_o fall_v into_o such_o sin_n as_o that_o their_o conscience_n do_v fly_v in_o their_o face_n than_o they_o be_v trouble_v and_o humble_v but_o for_o such_o thing_n as_o these_o be_v they_o be_v seldom_o humble_v to_o be_v humle_v for_o thy_o holy_a offering_n be_v a_o good_a sign_n of_o a_o gracious_a heart_n we_o read_v of_o the_o cherubim_n that_o they_o have_v six_o wing_n and_o with_o two_o of_o their_o wing_n the_o text_n say_v they_o cover_v their_o face_n so_o my_o brethren_n we_o have_v need_n have_v wing_n as_o it_o be_v to_o cover_v our_o best_a duty_n they_o have_v wing_n and_o with_o two_o they_o cover_v their_o leg_n and_o with_o two_o their_o face_n we_o have_v need_v not_o only_o of_o a_o cover_n for_o our_o low_a part_n and_o mean_a duty_n but_o a_o cover_n for_o our_o holy_a duty_n to_o cover_v our_o face_n our_o best_a duty_n of_o all_o the_o most_o heavenly_a duty_n we_o perform_v have_v need_n be_v purge_v by_o the_o blood_n of_o christ_n in_o levit._n 16.14.16_o we_o read_v of_o their_o holy_a thing_n that_o there_o be_v need_n of_o purge_v of_o they_o by_o blood_n and_o so_o it_o shall_v be_v in_o our_o holy_a duty_n let_v
