gold_n try_v in_o the_o fire_n or_o the_o burn_a petition_n revive_v a_o preface_n june_n 14_o 1647_o couteous_a reader_n i_o shall_v give_v thou_o a_o short_a narative_n of_o some_o passage_n upon_o the_o follow_a petition_n first_o concern_v the_o large_a petition_n divers_a print_a copy_n thereof_o be_v send_v abroad_o to_o gain_v subscription_n one_o whereof_o be_v intercept_v by_o a_o informer_n and_o so_o bring_v to_o the_o hand_n of_o mr._n glyn_n recorder_n of_o london_n and_o a_o member_n of_o the_o commons_o house_n who_o be_v please_v to_o call_v it_o a_o scandalous_a and_o seditious_a paper_n whereupon_o it_o be_v refer_v to_o colonel_n leighe_v committee_n it_o be_v that_o committee_n appoint_v to_o receive_v information_n against_o those_o man_n who_o preach_v without_o licence_n from_o the_o ordainer_n to_o find_v out_o the_o author_n of_o the_o say_a petition_n upon_o this_o a_o certificate_n be_v draw_v up_o and_o intend_v by_o the_o petitioner_n to_o have_v be_v deliver_v to_o the_o say_a committee_n for_o vindication_n of_o the_o say_a petition_n as_o will_v appear_v by_o the_o certificate_n herewith_o print_v and_o notice_n be_v take_v of_o one_o of_o the_o petitioner_n name_v nicholas_n tue_o who_o red_a the_o say_a certificate_n in_o the_o court_n of_o request_n for_o the_o concurrence_n of_o friend_n who_o have_v not_o former_o see_v nor_o subscribe_v the_o certificate_n and_o for_o his_o so_o do_v he_o be_v send_v for_o present_o before_o the_o say_a committee_n and_o for_o refuse_v to_o answer_v to_o interrogatory_n be_v present_o by_o they_o commit_v and_o still_o remain_v in_o prison_n it_o be_v at_o the_o least_o three_o month_n since_o his_o first_o commitment_n likewise_o major_a tuledah_n be_v upon_o complaint_n of_o that_o committee_n the_o next_o day_n commit_v by_o the_o house_n but_o since_o discharge_v upon_o bail_n without_o any_o just_a cause_n show_v for_o either_o of_o their_o commitment_n and_o other_o of_o the_o petitioner_n abuse_v and_o vilify_v by_o that_o committee_n some_o of_o they_o offering_n to_o draw_v their_o sword_n upon_o the_o petitioner_n all_o which_o with_o more_o be_v ready_a to_o be_v prove_v to_o the_o whole_a house_n but_o can_v by_o no_o mean_n be_v obtain_v though_o earnest_o desire_v by_o a_o petition_n present_o deliver_v into_o the_o house_n humble_o desire_v the_o examination_n of_o these_o miscarriage_n but_o after_o eight_o week_n attendance_n with_o much_o importunity_n after_o many_o promise_n and_o day_n appoint_v to_o take_v their_o petition_n into_o consideration_n they_o obtain_v a_o very_a slight_a answer_n which_o be_v that_o they_o can_v not_o like_v of_o their_o petition_n occasion_n be_v take_v sudden_o after_o to_o commit_v one_o of_o the_o petitioner_n name_v mr._n browne_n to_o the_o prison_n of_o newgate_n for_o his_o importunity_n in_o desire_v a_o answer_n to_o that_o petition_n after_o many_o promise_n and_o delay_n short_o after_o the_o slight_a answer_n obtain_v to_o the_o say_a petition_n the_o petitioner_n think_v good_a to_o deliver_v a_o second_o petition_n to_o the_o house_n to_o see_v if_o it_o be_v possible_a to_o obtain_v a_o better_a answer_n to_o their_o just_a desire_n hope_v that_o they_o will_v better_o consider_v of_o thing_n but_o after_o attendance_n and_o importunity_n they_o obtain_v a_o answer_n in_o these_o word_n that_o the_o parliament_n have_v vote_v it_o a_o breach_n of_o privilege_n scandalous_a and_o seditious_a and_o that_o petition_v and_o the_o large_a petition_n to_o be_v burn_v by_o the_o hand_n of_o the_o hangman_n which_o be_v according_o do_v by_o order_n of_o the_o house_n in_o these_o word_n die_fw-la jovis_fw-la 20_o may_n 1647_o resolve_v etc._n etc._n that_o the_o sheriff_n of_o london_n and_o middlesex_n be_v require_v to_o take_v care_n that_o the_o petition_n and_o paper_n be_v burn_v which_o according_o be_v do_v before_o the_o exchange_n two_o day_n after_o the_o say_a vote_n and_o order_n of_o the_o house_n and_o short_o after_o this_o the_o petitioner_n prepare_v a_o three_o petition_n which_o be_v the_o la●t_n petition_v herewith_o print_v and_o after_o much_o importunity_n with_o the_o member_n of_o the_o house_n after_o almost_o two_o day_n attendance_n obtain_v so_o much_o favour_n from_o one_o of_o the_o member_n as_o to_o present_v that_o petition_n to_o the_o house_n and_o after_o all_o this_o can_v obtain_v no_o other_o answer_n to_o that_o petition_n but_o the_o house_n after_o long_a dispute_n thereupon_o pass_v this_o vote_n upon_o the_o 2d._o of_o june_n 1647._o that_o no_o answer_n shall_v be_v give_v to_o the_o petition_n at_o the_o present_a and_o two_o day_n after_o the_o petitioner_n attend_v the_o house_n for_o a_o further_a answer_n deliver_v copy_n of_o their_o petition_n to_o the_o several_a member_n of_o the_o house_n but_o can_v obtain_v no_o further_o answer_v thereunto_o but_o receive_v many_o vilify_n and_o disgraceful_a speech_n from_o several_a member_n of_o the_o house_n and_o so_o after_o a_o whole_a day_n attendance_n depart_v without_o any_o hope_n to_o receive_v any_o answer_n to_o their_o just_a desire_n in_o the_o say_a petition_n and_o thus_o i_o have_v faithful_o and_o true_o though_o brief_o give_v you_o a_o account_n of_o the_o proceed_n upon_o the_o ensue_a petition_n now_o let_v the_o judicious_a and_o considerate_a reader_n judge_n whether_o the_o petitioner_n have_v receive_v equal_a and_o even_a deal_n herein_o from_o this_o present_a parliament_n the_o petitioner_n be_v such_o who_o have_v lay_v out_o themselves_o both_o in_o their_o person_n and_o purse_n far_o above_o their_o ability_n who_o have_v not_o value_v their_o life_n their_o child_n life_n nor_o their_o servant_n life_n nor_o estate_n to_o dear_a for_o the_o service_n of_o the_o parliament_n and_o commonwealth_n and_o be_v this_o the_o reward_n they_o shall_v receive_v after_o they_o have_v thus_o lay_v out_o themselves_o nay_o they_o have_v just_a cause_n to_o fear_v that_o they_o and_o their_o friend_n be_v man_n appoint_v to_o utter_a ruin_n and_o destruction_n otherwise_o what_o mean_v all_o the_o rail_n revile_v and_o reproachful_a speech_n of_o their_o minister_n and_o agent_n out_o of_o the_o pulpit_n and_o press_n to_o stir_v up_o the_o rude_a multitude_n to_o fall_v upon_o they_o and_o destroy_v they_o be_v not_o this_o ingratitude_n in_o the_o high_a degree_n shall_v not_o the_o very_a heathen_a rise_v up_o in_o judgement_n against_o such_o a_o generation_n of_o degenerate_a man_n as_o these_o who_o can_v say_v si_fw-mi ingratum_fw-la dixeris_fw-la omne_fw-la dixeris_fw-la you_o can_v choose_v but_o take_v notice_n of_o several_a remonstrance_n and_o petition_n present_v to_o the_o house_n from_o these_o man_n who_o call_v themselves_o lord_n major_a alderman_n and_o commons_o of_o the_o city_n of_o london_n in_o common-council_n assemble_v what_o high_a affront_v they_o have_v offer_v to_o the_o parliament_n yet_o they_o have_v in_o some_o measure_n by_o step_n and_o degree_n answer_v the_o remonstrance_n and_o grant_v their_o petition_n and_o you_o may_v observe_v what_o answer_n they_o have_v give_v to_o their_o last_o petition_n for_o raise_v of_o horse_n etc._n etc._n the_o tendency_n whereof_o may_v be_v of_o very_o dangerous_a consequence_n if_o well_o weigh_v which_o be_v thus_o mr._n speaker_n by_o command_n of_o the_o house_n express_v unto_o they_o the_o true_a sense_n the_o house_n have_v of_o their_o constant_a good_a affection_n to_o this_o parliament_n and_o that_o no_o alteration_n whatsoever_o can_v work_v any_o change_n in_o their_o duty_n and_o love_n for_o which_o he_o be_v to_o give_v they_o the_o hearty_a thanks_o of_o this_o house_n i_o can_v enlarge_v myself_o but_o i_o affect_v brevity_n and_o the_o judicious_a and_o considerate_a reader_n may_v enlarge_v himself_o in_o his_o own_o thought_n well_o weigh_v the_o matter_n in_o the_o say_a remonstrance_n and_o petition_n and_o upon_o due_a consideration_n may_v judge_v whether_o their_o petition_n or_o the_o petition_n burn_v vilify_v and_o disgrace_v deserve_v most_o thanks_o or_o tend_v most_o to_o the_o safety_n of_o the_o parliament_n and_o commonwealth_n and_o will_v hence_o forth_o conclude_v that_o as_o there_o be_v little_a good_a to_o be_v hope_v for_o from_o such_o parliament_n as_o need_v to_o be_v petition_v so_o there_o be_v none_o at_o all_o to_o be_v expect_v from_o those_o that_o burn_v such_o petition_n as_o these_o if_o the_o endeavour_n of_o good_a commonwealths-man_n in_o the_o house_n can_v have_v prevail_v these_o petition_n have_v not_o be_v burn_v nor_o the_o petitioner_n abuse_v but_o the_o son_n of_o zerviah_n be_v to_o strong_a for_o they_o that_o be_v to_o say_v the_o malignant_n and_o delinquent_n the_o lawyer_n some_o few_o excect_v the_o monopolise_v merchant_n the_o son_n and_o servant_n of_o the_o lord_n all_o these_o join_v together_o over_o vote_v they_o about_o 16_o voice_n but_o god_n in_o time_n will_v we_o trust_v deliver_v the_o people_n of_o this_o nation_n from_o their_o deceit_n and_o malice_n and_o therefore_o let_v we_o not_o sorrow_n as_o man_n without_o hope_n nor_o be_v discourage_v but_o go_v on_o and_o persist_v for_o the_o just_a liberty_n of_o england_n a_o word_n to_o the_o wise_a be_v sufficient_a farewell_n by_o a_o wellwisher_a to_o truth_n and_o peace_n print_a in_o the_o year_n 1647._o
