perfect_a law_n of_o god_n by_o not_o so_o believe_v and_o repent_v neither_o of_o which_o can_v be_v grant_v without_o the_o great_a absurdity_n imaginable_a if_o he_o shall_v here_o say_v that_o i_o myself_o have_v grant_v that_o the_o moral_a natural_a law_n oblige_v all_o that_o be_v under_o it_o to_o a_o legal_a repentance_n but_o christ_n himself_o be_v under_o it_o and_o than_o it_o will_v follow_v that_o he_o be_v oblige_v to_o a_o legal_a repentance_n which_o be_v as_o bad_a as_o to_o hold_v that_o he_o be_v oblige_v to_o a_o evangelical_n repentance_n i_o can_v easy_o answer_v he_o that_o he_o quite_o mistake_v the_o matter_n i_o never_o say_v that_o the_o law_n of_o nature_n do_v absolute_o and_o actual_o oblige_v all_o that_o be_v under_o it_o to_o a_o legal_a repentance_n but_o only_o that_o it_o so_o oblige_v all_o mankind_n that_o be_v sinner_n and_o upon_o supposition_n that_o they_o be_v sinner_n but_o now_o our_o most_o holy_a lord_n jesus_n be_v no_o sinner_n nor_o be_v it_o possible_a that_o he_o can_v be_v a_o sinner_n therefore_o he_o neither_o be_v nor_o can_v possible_o be_v oblige_v to_o a_o legal_a repentance_n of_o his_o sin_n my_o r._n b._n will_v not_o own_v himself_o to_o be_v a_o antinomian_a and_o therefore_o i_o do_v not_o say_v that_o he_o hold_v with_o some_o of_o that_o sect_n that_o christ_n believe_v for_o we_o with_o a_o justify_v faith_n and_o repent_v for_o we_o with_o a_o evangelical_n repentance_n in_o that_o he_o perfect_o keep_v the_o moral_a law_n which_o by_o itself_o immediate_o require_v such_o faith_n and_o repentance_n of_o all_o that_o be_v under_o it_o only_o i_o desire_v he_o to_o guard_v against_o that_o consequence_n and_o look_v well_o to_o it_o that_o it_o be_v not_o the_o natural_a offspring_n of_o his_o belove_a opinion_n if_o any_o man_n shall_v be_v so_o weak_a as_o to_o question_v how_o we_o can_v
be_v because_o the_o gospel_n consist_v most_o in_o promise_n though_o it_o be_v not_o without_o but_o partly_o consist_v in_o precept_n also_o this_o i_o have_v show_v in_o the_o apology_n that_o there_o be_v not_o only_o promise_v in_o the_o gospel_n to_o those_o who_o observe_v its_o precept_n but_o that_o there_o be_v in_o it_o promise_v of_o grace_n to_o his_o people_n to_o fit_v they_o for_o and_o to_o assist_v they_o in_o the_o observance_n of_o its_o precept_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v fit_o call_v not_o simple_o a_o law_n but_o a_o law_n of_o grace_n so_o i_o call_v it_o and_o believe_v it_o to_o be_v and_o so_o it_o be_v call_v and_o believe_v to_o be_v by_o other_o orthodox_n divine_v before_o i_o be_v bear_v but_o though_o i_o believe_v the_o gospel_n to_o be_v a_o law_n of_o grace_n that_o require_v duty_n to_o be_v perform_v by_o the_o grace_n of_o the_o spirit_n and_o accept_v through_o the_o mediation_n of_o christ_n yet_o i_o never_o say_v nor_o believe_v that_o by_o the_o gospel_n or_o law_n of_o grace_n i_o do_v not_o understand_v the_o book_n of_o the_o new_a testament_n but_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n make_v with_o the_o church_n through_o christ_n obedience_n to_o the_o gospel_n but_o because_o of_o the_o principle_n of_o faith_n and_o love_n from_o which_o it_o flow_v and_o in_o respect_n of_o the_o evangelical_n motive_n which_o animate_v and_o encourage_v it_o this_o i_o take_v to_o be_v a_o mistake_n if_o he_o exclude_v the_o gospel_n covenant_n require_v such_o obedience_n from_o be_v one_o of_o the_o say_a motive_n and_o my_o reason_n be_v because_o the_o gospel_n require_v it_o in_o order_n to_o gospel-end_n and_o purpose_n be_v the_o principal_a reason_n wherefore_o we_o call_v it_o evangelical_n obedience_n for_o it_o be_v the_o gospel_n that_o of_o itself_o direct_o and_o immediate_o require_v we_o to_o obey_v the_o moral_a law_n in_o such_o a_o evangelical_n way_n to_o wit_n sincere_o with_o a_o renew_a heart_n from_o principle_n of_o faith_n in_o and_o love_n to_o christ_n the_o mediator_n and_o god_n as_o our_o redeemer_n and_o saviour_n by_o christ_n and_o further_o as_o the_o authority_n and_o veracity_n of_o god_n reveal_v truth_n to_o be_v believe_v be_v the_o formal_a reason_n of_o our_o faith_n which_o make_v and_o denominate_v it_o a_o divine_a faith_n so_o the_o authority_n and_o will_n of_o god_n command_v duty_n to_o be_v do_v be_v the_o formal_a reason_n of_o our_o obedience_n which_o give_v it_o the_o denomination_n of_o divine_a obedience_n or_o obedience_n to_o god_n and_o if_o this_o be_v true_a of_o obedience_n to_o god_n in_o general_n that_o it_o be_v call_v a_o divine_a legal_a obedience_n because_o it_o be_v obedience_n to_o god_n authority_n and_o will_n command_v contribute_v nothing_o to_o the_o give_v it_o its_o name_n as_o well_o as_o its_o nature_n 2._o second_o whereas_o in_o page_n 45._o he_o say_v that_o in_o john_n 14.1_o christ_n himself_o tell_v his_o disciple_n that_o they_o shall_v act_v faith_n on_o he_o because_o they_o be_v oblige_v to_o it_o by_o the_o same_o command_n which_o require_v they_o to_o believe_v in_o god_n this_o be_v another_o mistake_n and_o the_o mistake_n be_v the_o grosser_n for_o this_o reason_n because_o by_o this_o mistake_n mr._n g._n impose_v upon_o our_o saviour_n and_o make_v he_o to_o say_v that_o which_o he_o do_v not_o say_v nor_o be_v it_o employ_v in_o nor_o necessary_o consequent_a from_o his_o word_n our_o lord_n christ_n do_v not_o say_v believe_v in_o i_o because_o you_o be_v oblige_v to_o it_o by_o the_o same_o command_n which_o require_v you_o to_o believe_v in_o god_n this_o be_v mr._n g_n fancy_n or_o fiction_n which_o he_o shall_v not_o have_v father_v upon_o christ_n who_o also_o in_o i_o i_o do_v therefore_o put_v mr._n g._n to_o prove_v that_o because_o our_o lord_n christ_n say_v you_o believe_v in_o god_n believe_v also_o in_o i_o therefore_o he_o tell_v his_o disciple_n that_o they_o shall_v believe_v on_o he_o not_o because_o they_o be_v oblige_v to_o it_o by_o any_o positive_a precept_n of_o the_o gospel_n but_o only_o because_o they_o be_v oblige_v to_o delightful_a thus_o we_o say_v that_o a_o person_n regenerate_v by_o the_o assistance_n of_o the_o spirit_n and_o grace_n of_o god_n may_v keep_v the_o commandment_n of_o god_n in_o yield_v to_o he_o have_v precept_n as_o well_o as_o promise_n and_o that_o it_o require_v of_o we_o sincere_a obedience_n in_o order_n to_o our_o obtain_n possession_n of_o eternal_a salvation_n in_o heavenly_a glory_n i_o can_v bring_v many_o more_o very_o many_o worthy_a and_o orthodox_n modern_a divine_n to_o bear_v testimony_n to_o the_o point_n under_o consideration_n that_o the_o gospel_n have_v precept_n
