righteousness_n here_o careful_o observe_v that_o this_o law_n have_v two_o part_n 1._o the_o precept_n and_o prohibition_n prescribe_v and_o require_v duty_n 2._o the_o promise_n and_o commination_n determine_v of_o the_o reward_n of_o obedience_n and_o penalty_n of_o disobedience_n as_o the_o precept_n be_v the_o principal_a part_n and_o the_o penalty_n annex_v but_o for_o the_o precept_n sake_n so_o the_o primary_n intent_n of_o the_o lawgiver_n be_v the_o obey_n of_o his_o precept_n and_o our_o suffering_n of_o the_o penalty_n be_v but_o a_o secondary_a for_o the_o attain_n of_o the_o former_a so_o be_v there_o according_o a_o twofold_a righteousness_n or_o fulfil_n of_o this_o law_n which_o be_v the_o thing_n i_o will_v have_v observe_v the_o primary_n most_o excellent_a and_o most_o proper_a righteousness_n lie_v in_o the_o conformity_n of_o our_o action_n to_o the_o precept_n the_o secondary_a less_o excellent_a righteousness_n yet_o fit_o enough_o so_o call_v see_v pemble_n of_o justificat_fw-la pag._n â—_o be_v when_o though_o we_o have_v break_v the_o precept_n yet_o we_o have_v satisfy_v for_o our_o breach_n either_o by_o our_o own_o suffering_n or_o some_o other_o way_n the_o first_o have_v reference_n to_o the_o command_n when_o none_o can_v accuse_v we_o to_o have_v break_v the_o law_n the_o second_o have_v reference_n to_o the_o penalty_n when_o though_o we_o have_v break_v the_o law_n yet_o it_o have_v nothing_o against_o we_o for_o so_o do_v because_o it_o be_v satisfy_v these_o two_o kind_n of_o righteousness_n can_v stand_v together_o in_o the_o same_o person_n in_o regard_n of_o the_o same_o law_n and_o action_n he_o that_o have_v one_o have_v not_o the_o other_o he_o that_o have_v the_o first_o need_v not_o the_o second_o there_o must_v be_v a_o fault_n or_o no_o satisfaction_n this_o fault_n must_v be_v confess_v and_o so_o the_o first_o kind_n of_o righteousness_n disclaim_v before_o satisfaction_n can_v be_v plead_v and_o satisfaction_n must_v be_v plead_v before_o a_o delinquent_n can_v be_v justify_v this_o well_o understand_v will_v give_v a_o clear_a insight_n into_o the_o nature_n of_o our_o righteousness_n and_o justification_n than_o many_o have_v yet_o attain_v the_o great_a question_n be_v of_o which_o sort_n be_v our_o righteousness_n whereby_o we_o be_v justify_v i_o answer_v of_o the_o second_o sort_n which_o yet_o be_v no_o derogation_n from_o it_o for_o though_o it_o be_v not_o a_o righteousness_n so_o honour_v ourselves_o yet_o be_v it_o as_o excellent_a in_o christ_n and_o honourable_a to_o he_o and_o this_o first_o kind_n of_o righteousness_n as_o it_o be_v in_o christ_n can_v retain_v its_o own_o form_n be_v make_v we_o and_o to_o that_o the_o papist_n argument_n will_v hold_v good_a the_o law_n command_v our_o own_o personal_a obedience_n and_o not_o another_o for_o we_o we_o do_v not_o so_o personal_o obey_v we_o do_v not_o real_o obey_v in_o christ_n and_o god_n do_v not_o judge_v we_o to_o do_v what_o we_o do_v not_o if_o we_o have_v yet_o it_o will_v not_o have_v make_v we_o just_a for_o one_o sin_n will_v make_v we_o unjust_a though_o we_o be_v never_o so_o obedient_a before_o and_o after_o therefore_o if_o we_o have_v obey_v in_o christ_n and_o yet_o sin_v in_o ourselves_o we_o be_v breaker_n of_o the_o law_n still_o and_o so_o our_o righteousness_n can_v be_v of_o the_o first_o sort_n this_o breach_n therefore_o must_v be_v satisfy_v for_o and_o consequent_o our_o righteousness_n must_v be_v of_o the_o second_o sort_n see_v both_o can_v stand_v in_o one_o person_n as_o beforesaid_a christ_n indeed_o have_v both_o these_o kind_n of_o righteousness_n viz._n the_o righteousness_n of_o perfect_a obedience_n and_o the_o righteousness_n of_o satisfaction_n for_o disobedience_n but_o the_o former_a only_o be_v his_o own_o personal_a righteousness_n not_o communicable_a to_o another_o under_o that_o notion_n and_o in_o that_o form_n of_o a_o righteousness_n by_o obey_v the_o latter_a be_v his_o righteousness_n as_o he_o stand_v in_o our_o room_n and_o be_v by_o imputation_n a_o sinner_n and_o so_o be_v also_o our_o righteousness_n in_o and_o through_o he_o yet_o the_o former_a as_o i_o have_v prove_v before_o &c._n &c._n be_v we_o too_o and_o our_o righteousness_n too_o though_o many_o divine_n think_v otherwise_o but_o how_o not_o as_o retain_v its_o form_n in_o the_o former_a sense_n but_o as_o it_o be_v also_o in_o a_o further_a consideration_n a_o part_n of_o the_o righteousness_n by_o satisfaction_n see_v that_o christ_n very_a personal_a obedientiall_a righteousness_n be_v also_o in_o a_o further_a respect_n satisfactory_a i_o entreat_v thou_o reader_n do_v not_o pass_v over_o this_o distinct_a representation_n of_o righteousness_n as_o curious_a or_o needless_a for_o thou_o can_v not_o tell_v how_o thou_o be_v righteous_a or_o justify_v without_o it_o nor_o do_v thou_o through_o prejudice_n will_v not_o do_v than_o christ_n have_v believe_v for_o they_o yet_o if_o that_o will_v serve_v there_o be_v as_o much_o comfort_n for_o one_o as_o another_o but_o what_o if_o they_o say_v still_o i_o can_v believe_v that_o be_v as_o you_o expound_v belief_n why_o then_o he_o confess_v plain_o he_o be_v at_o a_o loss_n he_o can_v drive_v on_o the_o work_n of_o comfort_v no_o further_o he_o say_v he_o be_v willing_a i_o shall_v answer_v that_o then_o he_o do_v believe_v and_o then_o he_o be_v justify_v for_o his_o willingness_n be_v his_o very_a consent_n or_o acceptance_n and_o that_o
