before_o almighty_a god_n three_o suppose_v thou_o shall_v persevere_v yet_o it_o be_v clear_a thou_o have_v sin_v grievous_o already_o and_o do_v thou_o think_v thy_o obedience_n for_o the_o time_n to_o come_v can_v satisfy_v the_o lord_n for_o all_o those_o rent_n behind_o for_o all_o those_o sin_n past_a as_o can_v a_o man_n that_o pay_v his_o rent_n honest_o every_o year_n satisfy_v hereby_o for_o the_o old_a rent_n not_o pay_v in_o twenty_o year_n all_o thy_o obedience_n be_v a_o new_a debt_n which_o can_v satisfy_v for_o debt_n past_a indeed_o man_n may_v forgive_v wrong_a and_o debt_n because_o they_o be_v but_o finite_a but_o the_o least_o sin_n be_v a_o infinite_a evil_n and_o therefore_o god_n must_v be_v satisfy_v for_o it_o man_n may_v remit_v debt_n and_o yet_o remain_v man_n but_o the_o lord_n have_v say_v the_o soul_n that_o sin_v shall_v die_v and_o his_o truth_n be_v himself_o he_o can_v remain_v god_n if_o he_o forgive_v it_o without_o satisfaction_n therefore_o duty_n be_v but_o rot_a crutch_n for_o a_o soul_n to_o rest_v upon_o but_o to_o what_o end_n shall_v we_o use_v any_o duty_n obj._n can_v a_o man_n be_v save_v by_o his_o good_a prayer_n nor_o sorrow_n nor_o repenting_n what_o shall_v we_o pray_v any_o more_o then_o let_v we_o cast_v off_o all_o duty_n if_o all_o be_v to_o no_o purpose_n to_o save_v we_o as_o good_a play_n for_o nothing_o as_o work_v for_o nothing_o though_o thy_o good_a duty_n can_v save_v thou_o ans._n yet_o thy_o bad_a work_n will_v damn_v thou_o thou_o be_v therefore_o not_o to_o cast_v off_o the_o duty_n but_o thy_o rest_v in_o these_o duty_n they_o thou_o be_v not_o to_o cast_v they_o away_o but_o to_o cast_v they_o down_o at_o the_o foot_n of_o jesus_n christ_n as_o they_o do_v their_o crown_n rev._n 4._o fit_v for_o christ_n that_o thou_o may_v prize_v christ_n the_o more_o use_v thy_o duty_n as_o noah_n dove_n do_v her_o wing_n to_o carry_v thou_o to_o the_o ark_n of_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n where_o only_o there_o be_v rest_n if_o she_o have_v never_o use_v her_o wing_n she_o have_v fall_v in_o the_o water_n so_o if_o thou_o shall_v use_v no_o duty_n but_o cast_v they_o all_o off_o thou_o be_v sure_a to_o perish_v or_o as_o it_o be_v with_o a_o poor_a man_n that_o be_v to_o go_v over_o a_o great_a water_n for_o a_o treasure_n on_o the_o other_o side_n though_o he_o can_v fetch_v the_o boat_n he_o call_v for_o it_o and_o though_o there_o be_v no_o treasure_n in_o the_o boat_n yet_o he_o use_v the_o boat_n to_o carry_v he_o over_o to_o the_o treasure_n so_o christ_n be_v in_o heaven_n and_o thou_o on_o earth_n he_o do_v not_o come_v to_o thou_o and_o thou_o can_v not_o go_v to_o he_o now_o call_v for_o a_o boat_n though_o there_o be_v no_o grace_n no_o good_a no_o salvation_n in_o a_o pithless_a duty_n yet_o use_v it_o to_o carry_v thou_o over_o to_o the_o treasure_n the_o lord_n jesus_n christ._n when_o thou_o come_v to_o hear_v say_v have_v over_o lord_n by_o this_o sermon_n when_o thou_o come_v to_o pray_v say_v have_v over_o lord_n by_o this_o prayer_n to_o a_o saviour_n but_o this_o be_v the_o misery_n of_o people_n like_o foolish_a lover_n when_o they_o be_v to_o woe_n for_o the_o lady_n they_o fall_v in_o love_n with_o her_o handmaid_n that_o be_v only_o to_o lead_v they_o to_o she_o so_o man_n fall_v in_o love_n with_o and_o dote_v upon_o their_o own_o duty_n and_o rest_v content_v with_o the_o naked_a performance_n of_o they_o which_o be_v only_a handmaid_n to_o lead_v the_o soul_n unto_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ._n second_o 2._o use_v duty_n as_o evidence_n of_o god_n everlasting_a love_n to_o you_o when_o you_o be_v in_o christ_n for_o the_o grace_n and_o duty_n of_o god_n people_n although_o they_o be_v not_o cause_n yet_o they_o be_v token_n and_o pledge_n of_o salvation_n to_o one_o in_o christ_n they_o do_v not_o save_v a_o man_n but_o only_o accompany_v &_o follow_v such_o a_o man_n as_o shall_v be_v save_v heb._n 6._o 9_o let_v a_o man_n boast_v of_o his_o joy_n feeling_n gift_n spirit_n grace_n if_o he_o walk_v in_o the_o commission_n of_o any_o one_o sin_n or_o the_o omission_n of_o any_o one_o know_v duty_n or_o in_o the_o slovenly_a ill_a favour_a performance_n of_o duty_n this_o man_n i_o say_v can_v have_v no_o assurance_n without_o flatter_v of_o himself_o 2_o pet._n 1._o 8_o 9_o 10._o duty_n therefore_o be_v evidence_n and_o pledge_n of_o salvation_n use_v they_o to_o that_o end_n and_o make_v much_o of_o they_o therefore_o as_o a_o man_n that_o have_v fair_a evidence_n for_o his_o lordship_n because_o he_o do_v not_o purchase_v his_o lordship_n will_v he_o therefore_o cast_v it_o away_o no_o no_o because_o it_o be_v a_o evidence_n to_o assure_v he_o that_o it_o be_v his_o own_o and_o so_o to_o defend_v he_o against_o all_o such_o as_o seek_v to_o take_v it_o from_o he_o he_o will_v careful_o preserve_v the_o same_o so_o because_o duty_n do_v not_o save_v thou_o will_v thou_o cast_v away_o good_a duty_n no_o for_o they_o be_v evidence_n if_o thou_o be_v in_o christ_n that_o the_o lord_n and_o mercy_n be_v thou_o own_o woman_n will_v not_o cast_v away_o their_o love-token_n although_o they_o be_v such_o thing_n as_o do_v not_o purchase_v or_o merit_v the_o love_n of_o their_o husband_n but_o because_o they_o be_v token_n of_o his_o love_n therefore_o they_o will_v keep_v they_o safe_a that_o god_n the_o father_n of_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n may_v be_v honour_v by_o the_o performance_n of_o these_o duty_n 3_o therefore_o use_v they_o christ_n shed_v his_o blood_n that_o he_o may_v purchase_v unto_o himself_o a_o people_n zealous_a of_o good_a work_n tit._n 2._o 14._o not_o to_o save_v our_o soul_n by_o they_o but_o to_o honour_v he_o oh_o let_v not_o the_o blood_n of_o christ_n be_v shed_v in_o vain_a grace_n &_o good_a duty_n be_v a_o christian_n crown_n it_o be_v sin_n only_o make_v a_o man_n base_a now_o shall_v a_o king_n cast_v away_o his_o crown_n because_o he_o buy_v not_o his_o kingdom_n by_o it_o no_o because_o it_o be_v his_o ornament_n and_o glory_n to_o wear_v it_o when_o he_o be_v make_v a_o king_n so_o i_o say_v unto_o thou_o it_o be_v rest_v not_o in_o duty_n nay_o go_v out_o of_o duty_n &_o match_v thy_o soul_n to_o the_o lord_n jesus_n take_v he_o for_o better_a &_o for_o worse_a so_o live_v in_o he_o and_o upon_o he_o all_o thy_o day_n four_o ruin_n by_o reason_n of_o man_n headstrong_a presumption_n or_o false_a faith_n whereby_o man_n seek_v to_o save_v themselves_o by_o catch_v hold_n on_o christ_n when_o they_o see_v a_o insufficiency_n in_o all_o duty_n to_o help_v they_o and_o themselves_o unworthy_a of_o mercy_n for_o this_o be_v the_o last_o &_o most_o dangerous_a rock_n that_o these_o time_n be_v split_v upon_o
