please_v 2._o it_o turn_v that_o which_o will_v be_v thy_o counsellor_n into_o thy_o accuser_n and_o tormentor_n thou_o refuse_v to_o give_v her_o time_n to_o do_v her_o office_n before_o thy_o action_n and_o therefore_o it_o will_v be_v bold_a to_o take_v time_n to_o do_v her_o office_n after_o she_o can_v be_v admit_v to_o advise_v thou_o but_o she_o will_v take_v liberty_n to_o accuse_v and_o sting_v thou_o 3._o endeavour_v still_o to_o keep_v thy_o conscience_n tender_a and_o sensible_a rather_o desire_v to_o be_v trouble_v with_o a_o seem_o peevish_a conscience_n that_o will_v check_v almost_o at_o any_o thing_n than_o to_o be_v at_o quiet_a with_o a_o dull_a and_o stupid_a conscience_n that_o will_v down_o with_o any_o thing_n it_o may_v be_v it_o will_v be_v somewhat_o troublesome_a but_o it_o be_v safe_a and_o thou_o shall_v find_v comfort_n in_o forbear_v of_o that_o which_o thy_o tender_a conscience_n wish_v thou_o to_o forego_v and_o be_v able_a abundant_o to_o satisfy_v that_o trouble_n which_o thou_o be_v put_v to_o by_o thy_o forbearance_n the_o conscience_n of_o thy_o integrity_n will_v be_v more_o satisfactory_a to_o thou_o than_o the_o curiosity_n of_o thy_o conscience_n will_v be_v troublesome_a and_o be_v very_o prudent_a and_o curious_a in_o thy_o disputation_n with_o thy_o conscience_n thou_o may_v before_o thou_o be_v aware_a dispute_v thy_o nature_n of_o the_o thing_n that_o be_v do_v as_o in_o the_o reason_n or_o ground_n of_o the_o do_v it_o viz._n the_o love_n of_o god_n and_o that_o man_n that_o have_v endeavour_v to_o principle_n his_o conscience_n aright_o with_o the_o word_n of_o truth_n do_v honest_o and_o sincere_o follow_v the_o direction_n of_o it_o shall_v be_v sure_a not_o to_o err_v long_o or_o dangerous_o god_n have_v place_v the_o conscience_n in_o our_o breast_n as_o his_o own_o vicegerent_n look_v upon_o such_o a_o subjection_n to_o the_o conscience_n as_o a_o obedience_n to_o himself_o and_o his_o own_o those_o that_o make_v against_o it_o so_o that_o in_o a_o decision_n of_o indifferency_n in_o such_o a_o competition_n a_o man_n may_v in_o a_o more_o impartial_a judgement_n conclude_v the_o thing_n to_o be_v therefore_o not_o indifferent_a but_o sinful_a because_o thy_o sinful_a heart_n can_v but_o bring_v up_o what_o she_o love_v but_o to_o a_o equal_a balance_n thou_o must_v therefore_o in_o these_o rule_n or_o principle_n and_o consist_v of_o three_o proposition_n 1._o it_o do_v of_o necessity_n presuppose_v a_o rule_n or_o principle_n give_v unto_o man_n direct_v he_o in_o his_o motion_n to_o his_o supreme_a end._n we_o see_v all_o thing_n natural_a have_v some_o principle_n instinct_n or_o law_n whereby_o they_o be_v carry_v to_o their_o several_a end_n and_o operation_n that_o which_o be_v in_o they_o a_o instinct_n be_v to_o man_n a_o law_n because_o be_v endue_v with_o understanding_n and_o will_n he_o be_v susceptible_a of_o a_o law_n which_o inferior_a creature_n be_v not_o now_o as_o the_o interruption_n of_o that_o law_n or_o rule_n in_o natural_a thing_n bring_v a_o obliquity_n and_o irregularity_n in_o their_o motion_n and_o so_o divert_v they_o from_o vncomeliness_n contract_v by_o the_o violation_n of_o that_o rule_n when_o the_o creature_n come_v out_o of_o god_n hand_n they_o be_v good_a and_o beautiful_a that_o beauty_n and_o goodness_n consist_v in_o nothing_o else_o but_o a_o conformity_n to_o the_o will_n of_o god_n in_o their_o being_n motion_n and_o end_n if_o any_o of_o that_o conformity_n be_v alter_v there_o arise_v present_o a_o deformity_n uselessness_n and_o uncomeliness_n in_o the_o creature_n the_o same_o it_o be_v with_o man_n he_o receive_v questionless_a a_o rule_n to_o live_v and_o move_v to_o a_o most_o suitable_a end_n and_o conformable_a to_o the_o will_n of_o the_o first_o cause_n that_o order_v he_o to_o that_o end_n as_o long_o as_o he_o move_v conformable_a to_o that_o rule_n he_o move_v according_a to_o the_o will_n of_o his_o maker_n to_o a_o most_o suitable_a end_n but_o when_o once_o he_o violate_v that_o rule_n he_o contract_v a_o deformity_n ataxy_n and_o uncomeliness_n by_o such_o violation_n 3._o a_o obligation_n to_o some_o positive_a punishment_n annex_v to_o the_o violation_n of_o that_o law_n for_o let_v we_o suppose_v any_o creature_n want_v will_n and_o understanding_n that_o do_v notwithstanding_o not_o move_v according_a to_o this_o rule_n by_o this_o he_o will_v most_o clear_o contract_v the_o two_o former_a viz._n loss_n and_o deformity_n but_o where_o a_o law_n be_v give_v to_o a_o creature_n endue_v with_o these_o faculty_n the_o violation_n of_o the_o law_n so_o give_v include_v in_o it_o not_o only_o a_o privative_a offence_n as_o i_o may_v call_v it_o to_o which_o a_o privative_a punishment_n may_v be_v answerable_a but_o a_o positive_a rebellion_n rejection_n and_o disobedience_n to_o that_o duty_n and_o subjection_n he_o owe_v and_o be_v enable_v to_o perform_v to_o his_o maker_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v most_o just_a and_o rational_a that_o there_o shall_v be_v add_v as_o a_o sanction_n to_o that_o law_n some_o principle_n come_v into_o the_o understanding_n we_o find_v in_o the_o creature_n several_a instinct_n incident_a almost_o to_o every_o creature_n which_o be_v connatural_a with_o it_o we_o may_v observe_v likewise_o in_o man_n disposition_n and_o inclination_n of_o several_a kind_n common_a to_o whole_a nation_n climate_n family_n which_o though_o they_o incline_v the_o man_n to_o action_n and_o carriage_n suitable_a to_o those_o several_a disposition_n yet_o be_v not_o law_n or_o principle_n of_o nature_n these_o principle_n therefore_o of_o the_o divine_a law_n call_v natural_a principle_n of_o conscience_n be_v in_o the_o understanding_n these_o way_n 1._o supernatural_o thus_o almighty_a god_n do_v at_o first_o give_v man_n a_o copy_n of_o his_o will_n show_v to_o his_o understanding_n and_o will_n command_v he_o to_o obey_v it_o and_o this_o perfect_a discovery_n he_o make_v at_o first_o and_o when_o it_o decay_v after_o the_o fall_n of_o man_n it_o be_v evident_a he_o do_v by_o divine_a inspiration_n and_o revelation_n reenforced_v and_o discover_v it_o as_o appear_v by_o the_o holy_a history_n 2._o artificial_o by_o tradition_n from_o the_o first_o man_n to_o his_o posterity_n and_o from_o one_o man_n to_o another_o for_o though_o the_o first_o man_n lose_v much_o of_o his_o light_n and_o knowledge_n by_o the_o fall_n yet_o he_o be_v not_o without_o divers_a of_o those_o principle_n which_o god_n at_o first_o show_v he_o 3._o naturally_n viz._n by_o the_o help_n of_o reason_n and_o discourse_n for_o although_o if_o a_o man_n be_v breed_v up_o from_o his_o infancy_n without_o any_o manner_n of_o instruction_n it_o will_v be_v very_o difficult_a for_o he_o to_o take_v up_o of_o himself_o any_o sound_a principle_n of_o nature_n yet_o i_o do_v believe_v that_o the_o divine_a law_n give_v to_o man_n have_v that_o justice_n and_o agreeableness_n to_o right_a reason_n that_o when_o once_o the_o motion_n of_o reason_n have_v any_o material_n of_o observation_n to_o work_v upon_o it_o will_v incline_v such_o a_o man_n though_o weak_o to_o some_o though_o not_o all_o of_o those_o divine_a law_n which_o be_v first_o perfect_o write_v in_o idle_a it_o know_v the_o power_n of_o his_o maker_n therefore_o be_v not_o anxious_a and_o know_v the_o use_n and_o value_n of_o the_o creature_n and_o therefore_o value_v it_o no_o far_o than_o it_o supreme_a end_n of_o man_n his_o union_n to_o god_n and_o herein_o we_o shall_v examine_v these_o three_o thing_n 1._o what_o natural_o may_v be_v conjecture_v to_o be_v the_o mean_n of_o acquisition_n of_o this_o happiness_n 2._o whether_o as_o thing_n stand_v with_o man_n the_o same_o mean_n be_v to_o be_v find_v or_o no_o 3._o if_o not_o then_o whether_o there_o be_v any_o mean_v leave_v for_o man_n to_o attain_v this_o supreme_a end_n of_o he_o or_o no_o and_o what_o it_o be_v and_o how_o to_o be_v know_v touch_v the_o first_o though_o god_n by_o his_o power_n may_v carry_v every_o thing_n to_o his_o proper_a mediate_a or_o ultimate_a end_n without_o the_o intervention_n of_o any_o mean_n yet_o as_o it_o be_v his_o own_o peculiar_a prerogative_n by_o his_o will_n to_o appoint_v every_o thing_n to_o its_o proper_a end_n wherein_o be_v see_v the_o glory_n of_o his_o goodness_n so_o the_o same_o will_n of_o he_o have_v order_v have_v appoint_v every_o thing_n to_o move_v to_o this_o end_n by_o a_o certain_a rule_n and_o certain_a mean_n and_o herein_o be_v see_v the_o glory_n of_o his_o wisdom_n such_o be_v the_o instinct_n and_o inclination_n of_o the_o creature_n by_o which_o they_o move_v to_o their_o special_a end_n and_o perfection_n and_o as_o these_o inclination_n be_v plant_v by_o god_n in_o the_o inferior_a creature_n the_o like_a be_v do_v though_o in_o a_o different_a manner_n in_o man_n at_o first_o in_o all_o probability_n of_o reason_n the_o difference_n be_v only_o thus_o in_o the_o creature_n all_o that_o be_v conduce_v to_o their_o end_n be_v make_v a_o piece_n or_o quality_n of_o their_o nature_n in_o man_n not_o altogether_o as_o shall_v be_v see_v we_o have_v find_v man_n endue_v with_o two_o great_a faculty_n understanding_n and_o will_n and_o in_o these_o principal_o consist_v the_o receptiveness_n of_o his_o happiness_n and_o the_o motion_n to_o it_o 1._o touch_v the_o understanding_n it_o be_v a_o faculty_n receptive_a of_o a_o object_n that_o may_v be_v know_v but_o that_o object_n be_v not_o of_o the_o nature_n or_o essence_n of_o the_o understanding_n but_o distinct_a from_o it_o so_o that_o man_n may_v be_v create_v a_o intellectual_a creature_n yet_o till_o such_o time_n as_o natural_o through_o the_o sense_n or_o supernatural_o by_o the_o immediate_a infusion_n or_o demonstration_n of_o god_n he_o be_v but_o rasa_fw-la tabula_fw-la the_o first_o thing_n therefore_o that_o be_v put_v into_o the_o understanding_n in_o order_n to_o his_o supreme_a end_n be_v a_o stock_n of_o knowledge_n of_o god_n and_o of_o that_o will_n of_o god_n which_o concern_v man._n and_o this_o will_n of_o god_n concern_v man_n be_v that_o mean_n which_o if_o know_v and_o pursue_v will_v guide_v a_o man_n to_o true_a happiness_n for_o as_o be_v before_o observe_v every_o thing_n be_v so_o far_o forth_o beautiful_a and_o happy_a as_o it_o hold_v conformity_n with_o the_o will_n of_o god_n and_o such_o be_v his_o wisdom_n and_o goodness_n that_o when_o the_o creature_n move_v according_a to_o the_o law_n and_o will_n of_o its_o maker_n it_o do_v without_o fail_v attain_v that_o happiness_n whereof_o it_o be_v capable_a because_o it_o move_v to_o that_o end_n for_o which_o it_o be_v appoint_v by_o the_o first_o cause_n now_o because_o god_n have_v make_v man_n a_o rational_a and_o intellectual_a creature_n he_o appoint_v a_o rational_a and_o intellectual_a way_n to_o move_v he_o to_o this_o end_n viz._n the_o knowledge_n of_o himself_o and_o of_o that_o rule_n or_o law_n which_o shall_v lead_v he_o to_o that_o end._n 2._o the_o understanding_n be_v thus_o enlighten_v with_o the_o knowledge_n of_o god_n and_o his_o will_n the_o will_n be_v endue_v with_o a_o rectitude_n to_o move_v on_o according_a to_o that_o rule_n in_o order_n to_o the_o right_a end_n and_o that_o which_o be_v in_o the_o understanding_n sub_fw-la ratione_fw-la scibilis_fw-la be_v to_o the_o will_n sub_fw-la ratione_fw-la legis_fw-la a_o thing_n not_o only_o show_v to_o the_o understanding_n as_o the_o mean_n to_o bring_v he_o to_o happiness_n but_o also_o enjoin_v to_o the_o man_n as_o his_o duty_n under_o pain_n of_o gild_n and_o vengeance_n for_o herein_o consist_v the_o difference_n between_o the_o instinct_n in_o the_o inferior_a creature_n and_o this_o law_n give_v to_o man_n in_o those_o it_o be_v not_o proper_o a_o law_n because_o they_o be_v not_o intellectual_a nor_o voluntary_a agent_n therefore_o their_o recede_a from_o that_o
therefore_o must_v needs_o take_v up_o the_o high_a and_o choice_a desire_n to_o attain_v and_o keep_v he_o god_n be_v please_v to_o communicate_v himself_o to_o these_o desire_n his_o acceptation_n of_o they_o and_o intimate_v expression_n of_o love_n to_o his_o creature_n this_o as_o it_o be_v the_o high_a happiness_n and_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o creature_n so_o it_o can_v choose_v but_o engage_v the_o soul_n to_o return_v love_n and_o obedience_n to_o the_o will_n of_o his_o god_n especial_o when_o all_o those_o engagement_n to_o obedience_n be_v likewise_o present_v to_o the_o soul_n that_o it_o owe_v its_o be_v to_o he_o that_o his_o will_n be_v most_o righteous_a and_o fit_a to_o be_v obey_v and_o this_o obedience_n arise_v from_o these_o principle_n of_o love_n to_o god_n as_o it_o be_v without_o all_o hypocrisy_n so_o it_o be_v without_o all_o pain_n and_o tediousness_n for_o it_o do_v arise_v from_o a_o inward_a and_o active_a principle_n and_o be_v act_v by_o most_o obedient_a and_o active_a faculty_n man_n take_v no_o less_o delight_n in_o his_o obedience_n which_o be_v the_o fruit_n of_o his_o love_n and_o duty_n to_o his_o maker_n than_o he_o do_v in_o the_o knowledge_n of_o the_o beauty_n and_o goodness_n of_o his_o maker_n which_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o that_o love_n and_o duty_n and_o as_o the_o act_n of_o the_o natural_a appetite_n upon_o a_o proper_a and_o seasonable_a object_n when_o they_o exceed_v not_o their_o proportion_n be_v delightful_a so_o the_o act_n of_o the_o rational_a appetite_n consist_v in_o love_n and_o obedience_n to_o god_n wherein_o they_o can_v not_o exceed_v their_o just_a proportion_n be_v the_o delight_n of_o the_o soul_n his_o holiness_n consist_v in_o the_o return_n to_o his_o maker_n of_o love_n and_o obedience_n and_o the_o goodness_n of_o his_o god_n in_o communicate_v himself_o and_o his_o favour_n exciting_a and_o accept_v those_o return_n do_v both_o conduce_v to_o the_o fulfil_n of_o his_o blessedness_n all_o this_o as_o it_o be_v derive_v from_o the_o blessing_n of_o god_n 1_o gen._n 28._o so_o it_o end_v in_o the_o perfection_n of_o the_o creature_n and_o god_n see_v all_o that_o he_o have_v make_v and_o behold_v it_o be_v very_o good._n ib._n ver._n 31._o 2._o the_o mean_n whereby_o he_o attain_v or_o rather_o preserve_v this_o state_n of_o happiness_n which_o be_v in_o effect_n congenite_fw-la with_o though_o not_o essential_a to_o his_o be_v this_o be_v only_o obedience_n to_o the_o will_n of_o his_o maker_n in_o all_o inferior_a creature_n we_o see_v a_o kind_n of_o inclination_n or_o instinct_n to_o follow_v the_o rule_n of_o their_o nature_n this_o conduct_n they_o to_o that_o degree_n of_o felicity_n and_o beauty_n which_o be_v commensurate_a to_o their_o nature_n herein_o though_o they_o follow_v the_o will_n of_o their_o creator_n in_o the_o law_n of_o their_o creation_n it_o be_v not_o proper_o obedience_n nor_o that_o instinct_n proper_o a_o law_n the_o latter_a be_v only_o give_v and_o the_o former_a only_o perform_v by_o such_o a_o creature_n as_o have_v liberty_n and_o choice_n and_o consequent_o knowledge_n and_o understanding_n without_o which_o it_o be_v impossible_a to_o have_v the_o other_o man_n alone_a of_o all_o visible_a creature_n be_v endue_v with_o both_o and_o so_o fit_v to_o receive_v a_o law_n and_o to_o obey_v it_o be_v thus_o fit_v he_o have_v a_o double_a engagement_n of_o obedience_n viz._n of_o duty_n and_o of_o profit_n 1._o of_o duty_n he_o receive_v his_o be_v from_o his_o maker_n and_o that_o be_v furnish_v with_o happiness_n this_o be_v a_o infinite_a and_o boundless_a engagement_n of_o duty_n even_o to_o the_o utmost_a of_o his_o be_v 2._o of_o profit_n or_o advantage_n this_o stock_n of_o happiness_n that_o be_v but_o now_o free_o confer_v upon_o he_o be_v put_v into_o his_o hand_n under_o this_o condition_n if_o he_o break_v his_o condition_n he_o forfeit_v and_o that_o most_o just_o his_o happiness_n but_o yet_o if_o this_o law_n be_v beyond_o the_o capacity_n of_o his_o nature_n than_o there_o may_v be_v some_o excuse_n of_o his_o disobedience_n but_o as_o this_o happiness_n be_v full_o commensurate_a to_o his_o nature_n so_o be_v this_o law_n which_o be_v the_o subject_n of_o his_o obedience_n we_o shall_v therefore_o consider_v these_o three_o thing_n 1._o what_o be_v the_o law_n of_o man_n creation_n 2._o whence_o the_o obligation_n of_o it_o 3._o what_o the_o sanction_n or_o penalty_n 1._o what_o the_o law_n be_v obedience_n be_v the_o duty_n of_o man_n to_o the_o will_n of_o his_o creator_n the_o law_n be_v the_o specification_n of_o that_o will_n in_o this_o or_o that_o particular_a command_n or_o prohibition_n the_o law_n that_o god_n give_v to_o man_n therefore_o be_v of_o two_o kind_n 1._o such_o as_o do_v bear_v a_o kind_n of_o proportion_n or_o convenience_n to_o the_o nature_n of_o man_n such_o be_v all_o those_o moral_n dictate_v which_o we_o call_v law_n of_o nature_n as_o keep_v of_o faith_n worship_v god_n and_o most_o if_o not_o all_o those_o precept_n in_o the_o decalogue_n be_v but_o expression_n of_o these_o law_n these_o though_o they_o have_v no_o obligation_n but_o by_o the_o command_n of_o god_n yet_o they_o have_v a_o kind_n of_o congruity_n with_o the_o very_a nature_n of_o man._n 2._o such_o as_o though_o they_o have_v their_o original_a justice_n of_o obligation_n upon_o the_o same_o ground_n as_o the_o former_a have_v viz._n the_o subordination_n of_o the_o rational_a creature_n to_o the_o will_n of_o god_n yet_o in_o hoc_fw-la individuo_fw-la there_o do_v not_o appear_v that_o congruity_n of_o nature_n of_o man_n with_o this_o command_n such_o be_v the_o command_n of_o forbear_v the_o forbid_a fruit_n and_o answerable_a to_o this_o in_o all_o time_n god_n have_v be_v please_v to_o give_v command_n of_o these_o two_o several_a kind_n gen._n 9.14_o at_o the_o same_o time_n god_n forbid_v murder_n which_o hold_v congruity_n with_o humane_a nature_n and_o eat_v of_o blood_n which_o do_v not_o appear_v to_o hold_v such_o congruity_n gen._n 17.2_o to_o abraham_n walk_v before_o i_o and_o be_v perfect_a which_o be_v a_o rule_n of_o natural_a justice_n and_o a_o command_n of_o circumcision_n the_o reason_n whereof_o do_v not_o so_o natural_o appear_v so_o to_o the_o jew_n not_o only_o the_o moral_a law_n but_o divers_a ceremonial_a rite_n which_o have_v no_o such_o necessary_a conformity_n to_o reason_n the_o reason_n of_o this_o and_o why_o the_o first_o man_n obedience_n be_v try_v upon_o this_o precept_n be_v because_o that_o in_o the_o obedience_n to_o such_o a_o command_n be_v give_v the_o clear_a and_o most_o free_a obedience_n to_o god_n for_o we_o hereby_o acknowledge_v his_o freedom_n to_o command_v what_o he_o please_v and_o our_o just_a obligation_n to_o obey_v what_o he_o command_v mere_o because_o he_o command_v now_o because_o it_o be_v impossible_a that_o any_o law_n can_v bind_v unless_o it_o have_v some_o promulgation_n or_o discovery_n from_o he_o that_o give_v it_o or_o somewhat_o equivolent_a unto_o it_o we_o be_v to_o consider_v how_o these_o law_n come_v to_o be_v publish_v as_o for_o the_o latter_a it_o be_v most_o certain_a and_o clear_a that_o it_o be_v by_o express_a injunction_n from_o god._n and_o the_o lord_n god_n command_v man_n say_v etc._n etc._n whether_o this_o be_v by_o a_o audible_a voice_n or_o by_o a_o immediate_a infusion_n of_o the_o knowledge_n of_o it_o into_o the_o mind_n it_o will_v not_o be_v material_a to_o inquire_v but_o certain_a it_o be_v that_o in_o as_o much_o as_o the_o obligation_n of_o this_o precept_n do_v not_o arise_v from_o any_o intrinsical_a conformity_n of_o the_o thing_n to_o humane_a nature_n there_o be_v a_o express_a injunction_n and_o command_n of_o god_n in_o it_o but_o as_o touch_v the_o former_a though_o they_o be_v discover_v to_o man_n to_o be_v the_o will_n of_o god_n matth._n 5._o 4._o it_o do_v superadd_a many_o precept_n not_o only_o of_o righteousness_n towards_o god_n but_o even_o of_o righteousness_n towards_o man_n that_o be_v not_o contain_v or_o at_o least_o not_o so_o explicit_o and_o positive_o as_o in_o the_o gospel_n such_o be_v work_n of_o mercy_n and_o compassion_n patience_n in_o persecution_n liberality_n towards_o other_o love_v our_o enemy_n abstinence_n from_o revenge_n gentleness_n moderation_n and_o right_o place_v of_o our_o affection_n contempt_n of_o the_o world_n humility_n and_o the_o like_a these_o though_o we_o find_v they_o commend_v in_o the_o passage_n of_o the_o prophet_n and_o psalm_n yet_o they_o be_v not_o so_o distinct_o deliver_v nor_o so_o bind_v and_o peremptory_o enjoin_v till_o we_o come_v to_o the_o doctrine_n of_o christ_n and_o his_o apostle_n who_o have_v put_v a_o equal_a necessity_n upon_o his_o disciple_n to_o observe_v these_o as_o those_o other_o injunction_n of_o the_o mere_a law._n of_o light_n than_o the_o former_a in_o abraham_n and_o the_o patriarch_n be_v one_o step_n in_o the_o law_n a_o second_o in_o the_o come_n of_o christ_n in_o the_o flesh_n a_o three_o and_o in_o the_o send_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n a_o four_o and_o yet_o all_o contain_v one_o and_o the_o same_o truth_n but_o different_a degree_n of_o manifestation_n and_o as_o in_o these_o particular_n the_o rule_n of_o righteousness_n contain_v in_o the_o new_a testament_n be_v more_o clear_a and_o excellent_a than_o that_o of_o the_o law_n so_o in_o the_o same_o and_o other_o respect_n it_o infinite_o outgo_v all_o the_o rule_n and_o dictate_v of_o righteousness_n contain_v in_o the_o philosopher_n who_o rule_n be_v tradition_n which_o god_n by_o his_o providence_n convey_v from_o age_n to_o age_n for_o the_o order_n and_o govern_v of_o mankind_n and_o those_o improve_v by_o the_o wisdom_n and_o severe_a and_o polish_a judgement_n of_o man_n to_o who_o god_n have_v give_v a_o great_a measure_n of_o reason_n and_o truth_n to_o who_o he_o give_v so_o much_o light_n as_o may_v leave_v the_o world_n unexcusable_a in_o their_o disobedience_n yet_o reserve_v so_o much_o from_o they_o as_o may_v glorify_v his_o son_n to_o be_v one_o that_o be_v a_o teacher_n send_v from_o god_n and_o none_o teach_v like_o he_o chap._n xxx_o of_o the_o general_a precept_n of_o righteousness_n give_v by_o christ_n and_o 1._o love_v our_o neighbour_n as_o ourselves_o now_o as_o in_o our_o duty_n towards_o god_n christ_n do_v not_o only_o deliver_v unto_o we_o many_o special_a and_o particular_a duty_n but_o also_o deliver_v some_o short_a general_a precept_n which_o be_v easy_a to_o be_v remember_v and_o do_v include_v our_o whole_a duty_n to_o god_n as_o that_o of_o matth._n 22.37_o thou_o the_o heart_n and_o according_o accept_v of_o the_o action_n it_o will_v keep_v thou_o from_o unseemliness_n and_o want_n of_o reverence_n because_o the_o lord_n of_o heaven_n and_o earth_n be_v present_a and_o a_o eye-witness_n to_o all_o the_o deportment_n of_o thy_o body_n and_o soul._n it_o will_v keep_v thou_o from_o sluggishness_n formality_n and_o deadness_n of_o heart_n because_o he_o stand_v by_o thou_o that_o see_v not_o as_o man_n see_v it_o will_v keep_v thou_o from_o pride_n and_o vain_a glory_n it_o will_v make_v thy_o heart_n sincere_a reverend_a watchful_a earnest_a and_o humble_a in_o all_o thou_o do_v because_o as_o he_o that_o stand_v by_o thou_o require_v all_o this_o in_o all_o thy_o duty_n so_o these_o affection_n or_o habit_n of_o the_o soul_n become_v the_o
