will_v tell_v you_o story_n out_o of_o aristotle_n plato_n etc._n etc._n and_o shall_v he_o speak_v his_o heart_n he_o think_v paul_n but_o a_o fool_n to_o they_o yet_o this_o man_n forsooth_o if_o he_o have_v but_o a_o little_a logic_n etc._n etc._n in_o his_o head_n and_o can_v but_o get_v he_o some_o few_o commentator_n and_o good_a book_n out_o of_o which_o he_o can_v scrape_v a_o few_o principle_n of_o divinity_n and_o form_v they_o according_a to_o his_o logical_a notion_n and_o write_v all_o in_o a_o paper_n and_o come_v and_o read_v it_o in_o a_o pulpit_n he_o be_v a_o minister_n and_o orthodox_n and_o to_o speak_v a_o word_n against_o he_o be_v to_o cry_v down_o the_o ministry_n and_o destroy_v church-ordinance_n most_o loathe_a stuff_n and_o a_o filthy_a idol_n i_o honour_v from_o my_o heart_n part_n and_o learning_n i_o reverence_v a_o gospel-ministry_n but_o this_o ministry_n and_o such_o be_v the_o generality_n of_o the_o ministry_n this_o day_n in_o england_n my_o soul_n loathe_v because_o i_o know_v christ_n soul_n abhor_v they_o and_o this_o idol_n he_o will_v short_o abolish_v 6_o the_o idol_n of_o grace_n grace_n be_v the_o best_a thing_n in_o the_o world_n because_o it_o be_v the_o image_n of_o christ_n upon_o we_o yet_o if_o we_o adore_v the_o image_n more_o than_o he_o who_o it_o represent_v we_o make_v a_o idol_n of_o it_o and_o so_o far_o god_n will_v blast_v it_o with_o a_o respect_n to_o this_o i_o take_v it_o those_o word_n be_v add_v in_o the_o close_a of_o all_o vers_n 22._o cease_v you_o from_o man_n that_o be_v from_o the_o best_a whereas_o a_o gracious_a man_n that_o have_v a_o principle_n of_o grace_n do_v oftentimes_o act_v his_o grace_n even_o in_o his_o fall_n for_o he_o never_o so_o fall_v as_o whole_o to_o loose_v the_o life_n and_o activity_n in_o one_o way_n or_o other_o of_o this_o principle_n whilst_o it_o be_v in_o he_o it_o will_v act_v and_o if_o a_o man_n fall_n shut_v it_o up_o from_o act_v this_o way_n it_o will_v act_v in_o another_o as_o fire_v enclose_v may_v be_v shut_v up_o from_o break_v out_o in_o this_o place_n but_o it_o will_v break_v out_o in_o another_o whilst_o there_o be_v fire_n you_o can_v keep_v it_o from_o break_v out_o so_o where_o there_o be_v grace_v it_o will_v vent_v in_o the_o time_n of_o fall_v one_o way_n or_o other_o the_o activity_n of_o grace_n be_v as_o natural_a to_o it_o as_o the_o life_n of_o it_o now_o take_v a_o gracious_a man_n under_o fall_n his_o fall_n shut_v up_o the_o activity_n of_o grace_n as_o to_o this_o way_n but_o grace_n be_v in_o he_o as_o of_o grace_n and_o because_o of_o it_o he_o think_v his_o way_n be_v right_a but_o this_o be_v a_o great_a mistake_n this_o come_v from_o the_o principle_n of_o grace_n in_o he_o not_o from_o the_o goodness_n of_o his_o way_n so_o also_o for_o grace_n in_o other_o we_o see_v such_o a_o man_n have_v much_o grace_n and_o upon_o that_o we_o think_v whatever_o he_o hold_v must_v sure_o be_v the_o mind_n of_o god_n hence_o we_o become_v his_o disciple_n not_o from_o conviction_n upon_o our_o heart_n from_o the_o word_n but_o from_o a_o adoration_n of_o his_o grace_n this_o we_o be_v very_o prone_a to_o and_o it_o be_v to_o make_v a_o idol_n of_o grace_n 2_o when_o i_o give_v that_o to_o grace_n i_o shall_v give_v to_o christ_n as_o suppose_v i_o have_v be_v act_v or_o i_o have_v see_v another_o act_n in_o this_o or_o the_o other_o duty_n and_o abundance_n of_o grace_n as_o faith_n love_n humility_z etc._n etc._n have_v be_v act_v in_o that_o duty_n and_o some_o glorious_a effect_n comfort_n five_o do_v the_o gospel_n work_n make_v a_o man_n to_o abandon_v all_o his_o shelter_n in_o himself_o and_o fly_v for_o refuge_n to_o jesus_n christ_n and_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n so_o there_o may_v be_v something_o like_o that_o in_o the_o legal_a work_n also_o for_o mark_v it_o a_o soul_n by_o the_o light_n of_o truth_n be_v thorough_o convince_v that_o all_o his_o duty_n obedience_n his_o faith_n comfort_n etc._n etc._n that_o spring_v from_o the_o law_n be_v nothing_o and_o that_o salvation_n be_v only_o to_o be_v have_v in_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n and_o a_o naked_a christ_n hold_v forth_o therein_o may_v hereupon_o quit_v his_o trust_n and_o reliance_n in_o these_o and_o now_o run_v in_o his_o own_o strength_n as_o before_o he_o do_v to_o the_o law_n so_o now_o to_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n and_o to_o a_o naked_a christ_n for_o refuge_n i_o say_v in_o his_o own_o strengtst_a still_o as_o a_o man_n when_o the_o flood_n be_v upon_o the_o fall_v but_o person_n may_v run_v thus_o far_o and_o yet_o still_o in_o the_o stock_n of_o old_a adam_n and_o such_o may_v fall_v hence_o also_o some_o conclude_v false_o freewill_n not_o distinguish_v betwixt_o work_n flow_v from_o legal_a light_n and_o strength_n and_o that_o flow_v from_o gospel_n light_n and_o strength_n to_o the_o first_o man_n have_v a_o power_n and_o by_o his_o as_o it_o be_v then_o after_o their_o come_n out_o of_o babylon_n that_o it_o be_v so_o in_o our_o day_n from_o hence_o we_o may_v observe_v observe_v that_o it_o be_v the_o special_a work_n and_o duty_n of_o god_n people_n when_o other_o and_o the_o generality_n of_o people_n cast_v off_o and_o apostatise_v from_o the_o work_n of_o god_n to_o speak_v often_o one_o to_o another_o they_o shall_v be_v more_o lively_a and_o more_o zealous_a and_o more_o active_a for_o god_n but_o it_o may_v be_v question_v what_o be_v those_o thing_n that_o the_o saint_n shall_v be_v often_o speak_v one_o to_o another_o of_o in_o a_o day_n of_o apostasy_n i_o answer_v they_o be_v these_o three_o thing_n 1_o of_o the_o sin_n of_o the_o time_n 2_o of_o the_o work_n of_o god_n in_o that_o time_n and_o age._n 3_o of_o the_o precious_a and_o glorious_a promise_n which_o god_n have_v make_v of_o better_a time_n of_o time_n to_o come_v to_o keep_v up_o and_o bear_v up_o our_o heart_n 1_o they_o shall_v be_v often_o speak_v one_o to_o another_o of_o the_o special_a evil_n and_o sin_n of_o such_o a_o time_n when_o the_o church_n of_o god_n be_v in_o a_o grow_a thrive_a state_n there_o be_v the_o abound_v of_o some_o special_a grace_n and_o so_o on_o the_o contrary_a when_o it_o be_v in_o a_o decline_a condition_n in_o time_n of_o apostasy_n there_o be_v the_o break_v forth_o of_o some_o special_a sin_n and_o evil_a now_o it_o be_v our_o duty_n in_o that_o time_n and_o age_n in_o which_o we_o live_v as_o in_o the_o one_o to_o look_v after_o the_o grace_n that_o we_o may_v flourish_v in_o that_o so_o in_o the_o other_o to_o pry_v into_o the_o evil_a that_o we_o may_v avoid_v that_o and_o we_o shall_v do_v this_o the_o rather_o because_o as_o such_o time_n have_v their_o special_a evil_n so_o there_o be_v no_o evil_a that_o do_v so_o sudden_o surprise_v and_o carry_v away_o the_o soul_n as_o the_o sin_n of_o the_o time_n and_o of_o the_o age_n and_o that_o because_o it_o be_v a_o general_a sin_n there_o be_v a_o crowd_n go_v along_o with_o that_o iniquity_n and_o man_n do_v usual_o in_o the_o sin_n and_o evil_n of_o time_n go_v from_o god_n when_o a_o evil_a be_v general_a man_n swallow_v it_o the_o more_o easy_o and_o it_o be_v a_o hard_a thing_n even_o for_o a_o good_a man_n to_o escape_v that_o therefore_o we_o ought_v the_o more_o especial_o to_o be_v look_v to_o that_o and_o speak_v of_o that_o often_o one_o to_o another_o when_o the_o child_n of_o israel_n come_v out_o of_o egypt_n their_o great_a sin_n be_v mistrust_v god_n their_o great_a duty_n be_v to_o trust_v in_o god_n to_o believe_v in_o he_o to_o rest_v upon_o he_o in_o all_o his_o dispensation_n he_o do_v call_v upon_o they_o to_o perform_v this_o duty_n but_o they_o murmur_v against_o god_n and_o be_v full_a of_o unbelief_n and_o this_o sin_n be_v so_o general_a and_o become_v such_o a_o sin_n of_o the_o time_n that_o of_o fix_v hundred_o thousand_o man_n that_o come_v out_o of_o egypt_n there_o be_v but_o two_o caleb_n and_o joshua_n that_o escape_v this_o rock_n and_o go_v into_o the_o land_n of_o canaan_n yet_o undoubted_o there_o be_v many_o more_o good_a man_n among_o they_o but_o they_o fall_v upon_o the_o common_a sin_n of_o the_o time_n and_o when_o the_o people_n of_o god_n come_v out_o of_o babylon_n the_o great_a work_n of_o god_n then_o be_v the_o build_n of_o the_o temple_n yet_o they_o cry_v out_o the_o time_n be_v not_o come_v the_o time_n be_v not_o come_v and_o so_o there_o be_v a_o general_a neglect_n of_o it_o by_o the_o whole_a congregation_n this_o be_v the_o evil_a of_o that_o time_n and_o spread_v itself_o over_o good_a and_o bad_a and_o indeed_o good_a man_n that_o have_v escape_v many_o other_o sore_o and_o great_a evil_n yet_o when_o it_o come_v to_o this_o the_o sin_n of_o the_o time_n they_o have_v not_o be_v able_a to_o escape_v but_o have_v fall_v into_o it_o not_o zerubbabel_n nor_o joshua_n but_o be_v guilty_a when_o the_o child_n of_o israel_n be_v in_o egypt_n they_o can_v very_o well_o see_v and_o look_v upon_o the_o idolatry_n that_o be_v there_o commit_v and_o yet_o keep_v themselves_o very_o well_o from_o it_o but_o when_o it_o come_v to_o be_v a_o sin_n of_o the_o time_n in_o the_o land_n of_o canaan_n than_o they_o be_v catch_v with_o it_o and_o be_v split_v upon_o that_o rock_n and_o if_o the_o lord_n by_o special_a grace_n and_o mercy_n do_v not_o withhold_v we_o we_o shall_v fall_v into_o this_o sin_n and_o it_o be_v wonderful_a mercy_n and_o love_a kindness_n that_o any_o soul_n do_v escape_v the_o evil_a and_o sin_n of_o the_o time_n but_o it_o may_v be_v ask_v how_o shall_v we_o come_v to_o know_v the_o evil_a of_o the_o time_n that_o so_o we_o may_v escape_v and_o be_v keep_v from_o it_o for_o answer_v to_o this_o 1_o let_v we_o take_v notice_n and_o observe_v that_o sin_n which_o lie_v diametrical_o opposite_a to_o the_o work_n of_o god_n in_o the_o time_n as_o in_o the_o child_n of_o israel_n their_o work_n and_o duty_n be_v to_o believe_v and_o trust_v in_o god_n in_o a_o extraordinary_a way_n now_o in_o direct_a opposition_n to_o this_o they_o mistrust_v god_n and_o that_o be_v then_o the_o sin_n of_o the_o time_n and_o so_o in_o their_o come_n out_o of_o babylon_n their_o work_n be_v to_o build_v the_o temple_n god_n house_n but_o in_o opposition_n to_o that_o they_o build_v their_o own_o house_n and_o neglect_v the_o work_n of_o build_v the_o temple_n and_o the_o house_n of_o god_n lie_v waste_v hag._n 1.3_o 4._o then_o come_v the_o word_n of_o the_o lord_n by_o haggai_n the_o prophet_n say_v be_v it_o time_n for_o you_o o_o you_o to_o dwell_v in_o your_o ciel_v house_n and_o this_o house_n lie_v waste_v why_o now_o suppose_v it_o be_v evident_a that_o god_n have_v write_v it_o in_o large_a and_o plain_a character_n that_o he_o that_o run_v may_v read_v if_o he_o will_v that_o the_o present_a work_n of_o god_n be_v to_o bring_v down_o lofty_a man_n to_o lay_n men_n low_a and_o to_o throw_v down_o antichrist_n now_o if_o there_o be_v in_o opposition_n to_o this_o a_o exalt_v of_o man_n and_o set_v up_o of_o antichrist_n be_v god_n destroy_v idol_n and_o be_v man_n make_v of_o they_o this_o be_v a_o neglect_v the_o work_n of_o god_n and_o go_v contrary_a to_o it_o this_o be_v the_o sin_n of_o the_o time_n if_o there_o be_v a_o set_n up_o of_o any_o such_o thing_n that_o god_n have_v lift_v up_o his_o hand_n against_o it_o be_v not_o rashness_n nor_o passion_n to_o speak_v the_o truth_n of_o god_n before_o god_n and_o the_o world_n that_o this_o be_v in_o opposition_n to_o the_o work_n of_o god_n if_o god_n have_v be_v throw_v down_o high_a thing_n the_o great_a one_o of_o the_o world_n and_o there_o be_v a_o set_n up_o of_o those_o thing_n again_o thing_n that_o have_v the_o same_o stamp_n and_o the_o same_o nature_n upon_o they_o that_o those_o thing_n have_v that_o be_v throw_v down_o before_o they_o this_o be_v the_o sin_n and_o the_o evil_a of_o the_o time_n and_o again_o suppose_v it_o be_v clear_a that_o it_o have_v be_v the_o work_n of_o god_n to_o appear_v against_o and_o destroy_v whatsoever_o may_v be_v say_v to_o have_v the_o mark_n of_o the_o beast_n upon_o it_o it_o now_o if_o so_o be_v there_o be_v any_o thing_n in_o this_o time_n and_o age_n set_v up_o again_o that_o indeed_o have_v no_o other_o ground_n nor_o bottom_n for_o it_o to_o stand_v upon_o but_o the_o wisdom_n of_o man_n and_o the_o invention_n of_o man_n and_o so_o shall_v intermeddle_v so_o far_o as_o that_o the_o power_n of_o it_o shall_v be_v feel_v in_o the_o church_n of_o christ_n it_o be_v evident_a and_o plain_a enough_o and_o it_o be_v the_o speak_n of_o the_o truth_n of_o god_n before_o god_n
