see_v the_o fruit_n thereof_o to_o our_o comfort_n it_o be_v after_o hide_v from_o we_o again_o as_o when_o either_o we_o wound_n our_o conscience_n by_o commit_v some_o grievous_a sin_n against_o comfort_n and_o not_o to_o we_o alone_o but_o even_o those_o about_o we_o see_v our_o shine_a light_n and_o glorify_v our_o heavenly_a father_n a_o man_n have_v not_o always_o the_o use_n of_o his_o hardness_n of_o heart_n and_o dulness_n of_o spirit_n so_o as_o none_o of_o those_o spiritual_a grace_n which_o be_v in_o he_o can_v sensible_o be_v discern_v by_o himself_o or_o other_o but_o shall_v he_o or_o we_o conclude_v or_o believe_v satan_n so_o conclude_v that_o he_o never_o have_v they_o or_o now_o be_v deprive_v of_o they_o why_o it_o be_v as_o absurd_a as_o the_o other_o for_o when_o he_o be_v awake_v out_o of_o his_o drowsy_a sleep_n by_o the_o voice_n of_o the_o lord_n sound_v in_o his_o ear_n and_o by_o the_o good_a motion_n of_o his_o holy_a spirit_n his_o faith_n love_n zeal_n and_o all_o other_o virtue_n and_o grace_n show_v themselves_o in_o their_o fruit_n and_o action_n as_o manifest_o as_o in_o former_a time_n §_o sect._n 3_o seeing_n then_o those_o argument_n can_v sensible_o discern_v they_o for_o though_o now_o our_o soul_n seem_v so_o sick_a in_o the_o sense_n of_o sin_n that_o there_o appear_v no_o sign_n of_o life_n yet_o the_o lord_n will_v raise_v we_o up_o again_o &_o restore_v we_o to_o perfect_a health_n though_o now_o we_o see_v no_o fruit_n of_o faith_n while_o we_o be_v nip_v with_o the_o winter_n of_o tentation_n yet_o the_o lord_n will_v water_v we_o with_o his_o holy_a spirit_n &_o warm_v our_o freeze_a heart_n with_o the_o lively_a beam_n of_o his_o love_n and_o favour_n so_o as_o we_o shall_v bring_v forth_o abundant_a fruit_n in_o due_a time_n &_o season_n though_o now_o there_o appear_v not_o a_o spark_n of_o grace_n in_o we_o by_o reason_n all_o be_v cover_v with_o the_o ash_n of_o our_o corruption_n yet_o the_o lord_n will_v sure_o add_v a_o fresh_a supply_n &_o blow_v upon_o we_o by_o his_o holy_a spirit_n so_o that_o our_o light_n and_o heat_n shall_v appear_v to_o ourselves_o &_o other_o &_o though_o double_v we_o read_v in_o the_o scripture_n that_o christ_n reprove_v some_o for_o their_o small_a faith_n but_o yet_o we_o never_o read_v nor_o hear_v that_o he_o reject_v and_o cast_v of_o any_o though_o their_o faith_n be_v never_o so_o weak_a if_o it_o be_v true_a no_o not_o he_o who_o cry_v out_o in_o the_o sense_n of_o his_o own_o weakness_n lord_n i_o believe_v help_v thou_o my_o unbelief_n 9.24_o mar._n 9.24_o and_o therefore_o if_o with_o he_o we_o find_v a_o true_a faith_n in_o we_o at_o least_o in_o some_o measure_n and_o though_o it_o be_v exceed_o mingle_v with_o doubt_v with_o his_o righteousness_n and_o merit_n by_o which_o only_o we_o appear_v just_a before_o god_n now_o a_o weak_a faith_n as_o true_o though_o not_o so_o powerful_o do_v apprehend_v and_o apply_v christ_n jesus_n and_o all_o his_o merit_n and_o obedience_n as_o a_o strong_a faith_n even_o as_o a_o small_a and_o weak_a hand_n if_o it_o be_v able_a to_o reach_v up_o the_o meat_n to_o the_o mouth_n do_v as_o well_o perform_v its_o duty_n for_o the_o nourishment_n of_o the_o body_n as_o one_o of_o great_a strength_n because_o it_o be_v not_o the_o strength_n of_o the_o hand_n but_o the_o goodness_n of_o the_o meat_n which_o nourish_v the_o body_n so_o a_o weak_a faith_n lay_v hold_n of_o christ_n and_o apply_v he_o and_o his_o benefit_n to_o the_o believer_n be_v sufficient_a to_o nourish_v he_o to_o everlasting_a life_n as_o well_o as_o a_o strong_a because_o it_o be_v not_o the_o worthiness_n or_o excellency_n of_o the_o instrument_n but_o of_o christ_n which_o it_o apprehend_v that_o be_v effectual_a for_o our_o justification_n &_o eternal_a salvation_n so_o in_o like_a manner_n as_o a_o small_a &_o weak_a hand_n be_v able_a to_o receive_v a_o alm_n as_o a_o strong_a and_o great_a and_o as_o a_o little_a eye_n do_v see_v the_o whole_a body_n of_o sun_n or_o some_o great_a mountain_n as_o well_o as_o a_o big_a so_o our_o faith_n though_o weak_a and_o small_a do_v apprehend_v christ_n as_o true_o and_o effectual_o for_o the_o salvation_n of_o the_o believer_n as_o the_o great_a and_o most_o strong_a our_o saviour_n christ_n compare_v himself_o to_o the_o brazen_a serpent_n and_o the_o believe_a christian_a sting_v with_o the_o sting_n of_o sin_n to_o the_o israelite_n which_o do_v behold_v it_o to_o the_o end_n they_o may_v be_v cure_v 3.14_o joh._n 3.14_o now_o we_o know_v that_o all_o of_o they_o be_v not_o a_o like_a sharp_a sight_v but_o some_o be_v purblind_a some_o blear_a eye_a some_o see_v it_o but_o exceed_v weak_o and_o dim_o but_o yet_o notwithstanding_o as_o many_o as_o look_v on_o it_o be_v cure_v and_o heal_v though_o they_o be_v never_o so_o weak_a sight_v so_o whosoever_o be_v sting_v with_o sin_n do_v look_v upon_o a_o bright_a burn_a flame_n which_o give_v light_a and_o the_o lively_a heat_n of_o true_a comfort_n to_o those_o who_o be_v endue_v therewith_o and_o of_o as_o high_a growth_n as_o the_o great_a tree_n in_o the_o garden_n and_o
inferior_a and_o subordinate_a end_n be_v that_o our_o salvation_n may_v hereby_o be_v firm_o assure_v unto_o we_o for_o now_o our_o salvation_n be_v not_o in_o we_o but_o in_o the_o hand_n of_o god_n christ_n by_o his_o death_n and_o suffering_n the_o other_o the_o imputation_n of_o his_o habitual_a and_o active_a righteousness_n the_o remission_n of_o sin_n be_v the_o first_o part_n of_o justification_n whereby_o god_n forgive_v for_o the_o death_n and_o full_a satisfaction_n of_o christ_n all_o our_o sin_n both_o original_a and_o actual_a both_o in_o respect_n of_o the_o guilt_n
