this_o mean_n and_o seem_v to_o make_v no_o scruple_n about_o it_o they_o be_v froward_a and_o peevish_a greedy_a of_o riches_n stubborn_a in_o their_o opinion_n and_o by_o no_o mean_n can_v bear_v with_o any_o man_n differ_v from_o they_o in_o matter_n of_o doctrine_n in_o short_a i_o see_v a_o strange_a ignorance_n mix_v with_o presumption_n &_o wilfulness_n not_o without_o a_o high_a degree_n of_o superstition_n in_o those_o who_o you_o admire_v for_o godliness_n but_o then_o there_o be_v a_o sort_n of_o people_n who_o enjoy_v that_o name_n among_o you_o in_o who_o i_o can_v see_v nothing_o but_o a_o humour_n of_o despise_v and_o rail_a at_o all_o ancient_a receive_v custom_n how_o good_a soever_o together_o with_o a_o sullen_a devotion_n and_o such_o a_o turbulent_a nature_n
do_v you_o feel_v that_o they_o say_v true_a for_o instance_n when_o they_o tell_v you_o that_o our_o saviour_n turn_v water_n into_o wine_n and_o that_o he_o raise_v lazarus_n from_o the_o dead_a n._n c._n no_o i_o know_v these_o thing_n otherways_o c._n then_o you_o must_v know_v the_o rest_n by_o the_o same_o mean_n that_o you_o know_v these_o viz._n by_o believe_a eye-witness_n of_o these_o thing_n who_o you_o find_v be_v person_n worthy_a to_o be_v credit_v n._n c._n but_o i_o feel_v the_o command_n of_o christ_n be_v exceed_v good_a and_o agreeable_a to_o humane_a nature_n which_o the_o apostle_n have_v deliver_v to_o we_o c._n that_o be_v you_o find_v it_o good_a to_o live_v sober_o and_o peaceable_o to_o be_v charitable_a to_o other_o and_o to_o take_v up_o your_o own_o cross_n with_o contentedness_n and_o patience_n n._n c._n yes_o c._n but_o may_v not_o these_o thing_n be_v feel_v by_o heathen_n as_o well_o as_o you_o and_o may_v not_o they_o by_o experience_n commend_v the_o practice_n of_o these_o virtue_n to_o we_o n._n c._n i_o think_v they_o have_v do_v it_o c._n then_o this_o experience_n of_o the_o goodness_n of_o christ_n command_n be_v no_o proof_n of_o our_o creed_n by_o which_o we_o be_v distinguish_v from_o heathen_n no_o nor_o will_v your_o experience_n prove_v to_o any_o man_n that_o christ_n command_n be_v excellent_a any_o far_a than_o he_o believe_v that_o you_o say_v true_a when_o you_o tell_v he_o what_o trial_n you_o have_v make_v of_o the_o best_a kind_n of_o life_n and_o that_o you_o be_v a_o person_n fit_a to_o judge_v of_o the_o difference_n of_o thing_n n._n c._n methinks_v i_o feel_v that_o jesus_n christ_n be_v in_o the_o heaven_n and_o in_o great_a power_n and_o glory_n there_o c._n whatsoever_o you_o feel_v in_o this_o matter_n it_o be_v the_o effect_n of_o your_o belief_n not_o the_o cause_n of_o it_o i_o mean_v you_o first_o believe_v that_o he_o be_v in_o glory_n before_o you_o can_v feel_v any_o good_a hope_n in_o your_o soul_n of_o immortal_a life_n and_o you_o believe_v his_o be_v in_o glory_n upon_o good_a reason_n else_o you_o do_v not_o know_v but_o entertain_v yourself_o with_o a_o pleasant_a dream_n both_o of_o his_o glory_n and_o you_o and_o last_o whatever_o you_o feel_v it_o be_v no_o proof_n of_o the_o truth_n of_o the_o thing_n but_o only_o of_o the_o truth_n of_o your_o belief_n it_o be_v to_o be_v prove_v otherwise_o that_o christ_n reign_v glorious_o in_o the_o heaven_n and_o be_v able_a to_o bring_v we_o into_o his_o everlasting_a kingdom_n only_o your_o be_v so_o mighty_o affect_v with_o it_o prove_v that_o indeed_o you_o believe_v it_o but_o you_o have_v best_o look_v you_o have_v good_a reason_n for_o your_o faith_n for_o all_o the_o severity_n of_o the_o religious_a man_n among_o the_o turk_n prove_v likewise_o that_o they_o believe_v strong_o in_o mahomet_n though_o i_o hope_v if_o they_o quote_v their_o experience_n never_o so_o much_o you_o will_v not_o be_v who_o love_n to_o discourse_v of_o unprofitable_a thing_n c._n do_v you_o and_o i_o talk_v frothy_o as_o your_o phrase_n be_v and_o spend_v our_o time_n in_o unprofitable_a chat_n be_v this_o discourse_n earthly_a and_o not_o at_o all_o pertain_v to_o religion_n and_o deal_v sincere_o with_o i_o do_v not_o you_o sometime_o when_o you_o be_v together_o pass_v the_o time_n away_o in_o speak_v against_o bishop_n and_o common-prayer_n and_o the_o government_n do_v you_o not_o know_v some_o that_o be_v ever_o complain_v of_o the_o time_n in_o which_o we_o live_v and_o say_v the_o former_a day_n be_v better_a than_o these_o and_o be_v the_o reason_n of_o this_o murmur_a so_o heavenly_a as_o you_o suppose_v do_v they_o not_o say_v the_o nation_n be_v in_o more_o credit_n and_o have_v a_o better_a reputation_n abroad_o and_o they_o a_o better_a trade_n at_o home_n and_o such_o like_a thing_n n._n c._n i_o can_v deny_v but_o i_o have_v hear_v some_o professor_n talk_v thus_o but_o there_o be_v a_o great_a number_n that_o you_o shall_v scarce_o ever_o hear_v talk_v of_o any_o thing_n else_o but_o heaven_n and_o jesus_n christ_n and_o the_o business_n of_o their_o soul_n c._n and_o such_o people_n there_o be_v in_o all_o party_n and_o sect_n in_o the_o christian_a world_n who_o perhaps_o be_v never_o awhit_o the_o better_a for_o that_o n._n c._n how_o irreligious_o you_o talk_v c._n not_o at_o all_o for_o unless_o they_o take_v a_o true_a delight_n in_o god_n and_o in_o that_o heavenly_a discourse_n above_o all_o other_o thing_n and_o unless_o they_o often_o manage_n very_o dull_o and_o without_o any_o taste_n thereby_o render_v christianity_n contemptible_a and_o make_v himself_o also_o still_o more_o flat_a and_o indispose_v for_o all_o honest_a employment_n all_o which_o consider_v i_o leave_v you_o to_o judge_v whether_o that_o man_n have_v not_o better_o have_v bestow_v his_o time_n otherways_o for_o than_o he_o may_v at_o the_o end_n of_o it_o have_v be_v good_a for_o something_o whereas_o now_o he_o be_v good_a for_o nothing_o at_o all_o but_o mopish_o sit_v bewail_v himself_o and_o complain_v of_o the_o deadness_n of_o his_o heart_n regard_v when_o they_o speak_v against_o thing_n sinful_a their_o zeal_n be_v equal_a against_o thing_n indifferent_a and_o thing_n unlawful_a and_o so_o the_o people_n easy_o imagine_v there_o be_v no_o more_o reason_n against_o the_o one_o than_o against_o the_o other_o beside_o they_o lay_v burden_n upon_o man_n which_o be_v not_o necessary_a and_o make_v christ_n yoke_n heavy_a than_o may_v prove_v very_o pernicious_a though_o it_o have_v a_o show_n of_o great_a piety_n and_o maintain_v many_o poor_a in_o idleness_n that_o love_v not_o work_n and_o spoil_v the_o labour_n and_o trade_n of_o many_o other_o who_o will_v not_o live_v idle_o far_o how_o much_o time_n must_v we_o pass_v in_o resolve_v which_o be_v best_a in_o every_o action_n we_o do_v as_o whether_o it_o be_v best_a to_o eat_v now_o or_o stay_v a_o while_n long_o to_o drink_v this_o cup_n of_o wine_n which_o be_v offer_v i_o or_o refuse_v it_o to_o talk_v with_o a_o friend_n or_o to_o part_n with_o he_o to_o visit_v a_o neighbour_n or_o to_o stay_v at_o home_n and_o while_o we_o be_v deliberate_v in_o this_o fashion_n the_o thing_n may_v be_v do_v which_o we_o have_v a_o mind_n unto_o and_o we_o may_v be_v return_v to_o that_o which_o possible_o we_o think_v will_v be_v best_a it_o be_v sufficient_a therefore_o that_o we_o be_v well_o employ_v and_o we_o ought_v not_o to_o torment_v ourselves_o and_o misspend_v our_o time_n in_o fear_n lest_o we_o have_v not_o do_v the_o best_a let_v we_o but_o consider_v whether_o no_o necessary_a duty_n towards_o god_n or_o man_n that_o we_o be_v capable_a of_o will_v be_v neglect_v when_o we_o go_v to_o divert_v ourselves_o and_o then_o we_o shall_v not_o spoil_v our_o innocent_a delight_n with_o needless_a jealousy_n n._n c._n but_o sure_o this_o liberty_n you_o give_v will_v do_v people_n hurt_v for_o they_o be_v apt_a to_o take_v too_o much_o of_o it_o c._n many_o will_v take_v it_o whether_o we_o give_v it_o they_o or_o no._n but_o i_o can_v assure_v you_o there_o be_v many_o excellent_a person_n of_o extraordinary_a piety_n who_o i_o know_v who_o will_v not_o take_v it_o though_o we_o give_v it_o not_o that_o they_o think_v it_o a_o unlawful_a thing_n as_o you_o do_v but_o they_o have_v no_o use_n for_o that_o liberty_n they_o be_v above_o such_o pleasure_n and_o can_v find_v employment_n or_o ingenious_a their_o place_n and_o relation_n and_o so_o whole_o forbear_v it_o which_o be_v a_o far_o great_a virtue_n than_o that_o which_o you_o boast_v of_o as_o much_o as_o it_o be_v more_o noble_a to_o abstain_v from_o those_o pleasure_n we_o think_v lawful_a than_o to_o be_v restrain_v only_o from_o those_o which_o we_o think_v be_v sinful_a i_o be_o acquaint_v with_o other_o also_o that_o go_v to_o play_n but_o very_o rare_o only_o for_o a_o harmless_a recreation_n when_o they_o be_v dull_a or_o to_o accompany_v a_o friend_n that_o earnest_o importune_v their_o company_n and_o these_o methinks_v be_v as_o much_o above_o those_o who_o piety_n you_o so_o much_o admire_v as_o it_o be_v a_o hard_a thing_n to_o abstain_v from_o the_o pleasure_n of_o which_o we_o have_v taste_v and_o find_v to_o be_v very_o agreeable_a to_o we_o than_o to_o forbear_v those_o to_o which_o we_o be_v stranger_n and_o know_v nothing_o of_o beside_o these_o i_o know_v other_o that_o go_v often_o and_o yet_o i_o dare_v not_o say_v they_o be_v not_o pious_a because_o i_o see_v by_o all_o their_o action_n that_o they_o love_v god_n and_o man._n and_o i_o have_v hear_v they_o say_v that_o the_o time_n they_o spend_v on_o that_o fashion_n do_v not_o hinder_v they_o in_o any_o christian_a duty_n that_o they_o know_v of_o and_o yet_o they_o be_v not_o negligent_a to_o inform_v themselves_o and_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n better_o spend_v than_o in_o talk_v against_o one_o neighbour_n or_o hear_v other_o rail_v upon_o the_o ill_a management_n of_o affair_n and_o find_v fault_n with_o the_o time_n or_o such_o like_a thing_n n._n c._n none_o of_o those_o thing_n need_v be_v do_v neither_o c._n it_o be_v true_a but_o they_o want_v company_n &_o they_o can_v find_v little_a of_o any_o fort_n that_o nature_n now_o mention_v and_o therefore_o we_o will_v fain_o know_v why_o we_o may_v not_o with_o better_a reason_n call_v those_o godly_a that_o go_v to_o play_n and_o otherways_o be_v unreprovable_a i_o say_v with_o better_a reason_n both_o because_o this_o be_v at_o least_o more_o innocent_a if_o it_o be_v not_o perfect_o blameless_a than_o backbiting_a one_o neighbour_n and_o
