not_o well_o tell_v how_o to_o expose_v popery_n armenianisme_n or_o antinomianism_n if_o they_o be_v tempt_v to_o embrace_v they_o or_o any_o other_o erroneous_a heresy_n and_o when_o withal_o we_o consider_v how_o natural_o we_o be_v incline_v to_o shuffle_v by_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n and_o to_o cleave_v to_o the_o way_n of_o work_n or_o to_o turn_v the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n into_o a_o covenant_n of_o work_n we_o will_v try_v well_o what_o we_o incline_v to_o in_o this_o point_n whether_o in_o our_o judgement_n or_o in_o our_o practice_n lest_o we_o fall_v from_o that_o which_o tremble_a and_o if_o it_o shall_v be_v ask_v how_o do_v that_o conclusion_n flow_v from_o this_o doctrine_n it_o be_v god_n work_n or_o he_o work_v in_o you_o to_o will_n and_o to_o do_v therefore_o work_v you_o out_o your_o salvation_n folk_n will_v rather_o think_v that_o the_o conclusion_n shall_v be_v since_o god_n do_v all_o this_o do_v you_o nothing_o no_o but_o the_o just_a contrary_a the_o preach_v word_n can_v produce_v 3._o we_o say_v it_o be_v a_o peculiar_a work_n to_o difference_n it_o from_o what_o be_v common_a to_o the_o hearer_n of_o the_o gospel_n for_o it_o be_v a_o work_n that_o be_v peculiar_a to_o they_o who_o the_o lord_n convert_v and_o be_v apply_v to_o none_o other_o but_o to_o those_o in_o who_o he_o work_v faith_n and_o who_o he_o effectual_o call_v by_o his_o grace_n it_o be_v a_o peculiar_a work_n then_o and_o not_o common_a for_o if_o it_o be_v common_a to_o all_o the_o hearer_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o not_o peculiar_a to_o some_o these_o two_o can_v not_o go_v together_o and_o be_v commensurable_a as_o we_o say_v who_o have_v believe_v our_o report_n and_o to_o who_o be_v the_o arm_n of_o the_o lord_n reveal_v 4._o we_o say_v it_o be_v a_o real_a work_n as_o well_o as_o powerful_a a_o real_a work_n of_o the_o spirit_n that_o be_v not_o only_o able_a and_o powerful_a to_o produce_v the_o effect_n and_o to_o convert_v the_o sinner_n but_o real_a and_o powerful_a in_o produce_v and_o bring_v of_o it_o about_o and_o to_o pass_v by_o a_o real_a influence_n of_o the_o spirit_n actual_o renew_v the_o will_n infuse_v and_o create_v the_o habit_n of_o grace_n &_o particular_o the_o very_a habit_n of_o faith_n among_o other_o in_o the_o soul_n which_o be_v quite_o a_o other_o thing_n then_o the_o suppose_n and_o say_v that_o a_o man_n in_o conversion_n must_v be_v suitable_a to_o his_o design_n use_v 1_o the_o first_o use_n be_v for_o the_o refutation_n of_o several_a error_n and_o for_o the_o confirmation_n of_o a_o great_a truth_n of_o the_o gospel_n which_o we_o profess_v it_o serve_v i_o say_v first_o for_o the_o refutation_n of_o error_n which_o in_o such_o a_o auditory_a we_o love_v not_o to_o insist_v on_o yet_o we_o can_v here_o the_o ground_n be_v so_o clear_a and_o the_o call_v so_o cogent_a forbear_v to_o say_v somewhat_o brief_o this_o way_n and_o the_o rather_o that_o the_o devil_n have_v take_v many_o waâ—s_n and_o drive_v many_o design_n to_o weaken_v the_o estimation_n of_o god_n grace_n among_o man_n and_o to_o exalt_v proud_a nature_n and_o that_o there_o be_v here_o a_o collection_n and_o concatenation_n of_o these_o design_n and_o way_n against_o the_o truth_n which_o this_o doctrine_n hold_v forth_o vent_v by_o corrupt_a men._n as_o 1._o they_o will_v have_v nothing_o to_o be_v necessary_o apply_v for_o the_o work_n of_o conversion_n buâ—_n the_o preach_n of_o the_o word_n take_v it_o for_o grant_v that_o all_o man_n have_v universal_a or_o common_a grace_n which_o god_n by_o his_o sovereignty_n say_v they_o be_v oblige_v to_o give_v else_o he_o can_v not_o not_o reasonable_o require_v faith_n of_o they_o and_o upon_o this_o come_v in_o the_o plead_v for_o power_n of_o freewill_n and_o man_n ability_n to_o turn_v himself_o to_o god_n other_o by_o plead_v for_o this_o notion_n of_o a_o light_n within_o man_n become_v to_o be_v patron_n of_o proud_a and_o petulant_a corrupt_a nature_n as_o if_o there_o be_v need_n of_o nothing_o to_o beget_v save_v faith_n but_o that_o common_a grace_n within_o and_o oratory_n or_o suasion_n of_o mouth_n from_o without_o and_o hence_o they_o come_v to_o maintain_v the_o foul_a error_n which_o have_v not_o only_o be_v condemn_v by_o the_o church_n of_o god_n in_o all_o age_n bâ—t_o have_v even_o by_o some_o papist_n be_v abominate_v and_o many_o of_o these_o same_o error_n be_v creep_v in_o even_o in_o these_o time_n wherein_o we_o live_v the_o design_n whereof_o be_v to_o tempt_v folk_n to_o turn_v loose_a vain_a and_o proud_a and_o to_o turn_v the_o grace_n of_o god_n into_o wantonness_n as_o if_o they_o need_v not_o at_o all_o to_o depend_v on_o god_n and_o his_o grace_n have_v a_o sufficient_a stock_n within_o themselves_o on_o which_o they_o can_v live_v well_o enough_o and_o it_o be_v not_o only_o the_o error_n of_o papist_n pelagian_o socinian_o arminian_o or_o error_n in_o the_o judgement_n that_o we_o have_v to_o do_v with_o but_o of_o such_o as_o overturn_v the_o very_a foundation_n of_o the_o work_n of_o man_n salvation_n and_o who_o though_o pretend_v to_o high_a notion_n do_v yet_o go_v beyond_o all_o these_o but_o if_o it_o be_v true_a that_o in_o the_o work_n of_o conversion_n beside_o the_o preach_n of_o the_o word_n there_o be_v a_o distinct_a real_a inward_a peculiar_a immediate_a efficacious_a work_n of_o the_o spirit_n necessary_a for_o bring_v about_o such_o a_o effect_n then_o there_o be_v no_o common_a and_o universal_a grace_n that_o all_o the_o hearer_n of_o the_o gospel_n have_v nor_o be_v there_o any_o power_n or_o ability_n in_o man_n to_o believe_v of_o himself_o otherwise_o there_o be_v no_o necessity_n of_o such_o a_o work_n as_o this_o for_o the_o convert_n of_o a_o sinner_n the_o prophet_n need_v not_o to_o cry_v who_o have_v believe_v our_o report_n and_o to_o who_o be_v the_o arm_n of_o the_o lord_n reveal_v and_o christ_n need_v not_o say_v no_o man_n can_v come_v to_o i_o except_o the_o father_n draw_v he_o for_o man_n may_v come_v without_o draw_v and_o believe_v without_o the_o revelation_n of_o god_n arm_n but_o in_o opposition_n to_o that_o we_o say_v and_o have_v make_v it_o clear_a that_o the_o work_n of_o conversion_n be_v bring_v about_o by_o a_o distinct_a peculiar_a powerful_a real_a and_o immediate_a work_n of_o the_o spirit_n on_o the_o heart_n whereby_o he_o not_o only_o enlighten_v the_o mind_n but_o renew_v the_o will_n and_o rectify_v the_o affection_n 2._o there_o be_v another_o error_n that_o this_o refute_v which_o seem_v to_o be_v more_o subtle_a for_o some_o will_v grant_v a_o necessary_a connexion_n betwixt_o the_o effect_n and_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n who_o yet_o say_v that_o it_o be_v suasion_n or_o persuasion_n for_o here_o we_o take_v these_o for_o the_o same_o so_o and_o so_o try_v to_o prevail_v with_o some_o that_o bring_v about_o the_o effect_n or_o work_v of_o conversion_n in_o they_o and_o not_o in_o other_o where_o that_o persuasion_n be_v not_o so_o try_v but_o this_o opinion_n lay_v not_o the_o weight_n of_o conversion_n on_o the_o arm_n of_o the_o lord_n but_o on_o some_o circumstance_n accompany_v the_o work_n and_o leave_v still_o some_o ground_n of_o boast_v in_o the_o creature_n 3._o a_o three_o error_n which_o this_o doctrine_n refute_v be_v that_o of_o some_o other_o who_o will_v have_v grace_n necessary_o to_o go_v along_v with_o the_o word_n in_o the_o work_n of_o faith_n but_o so_o as_o it_o reach_v not_o the_o will_n but_o that_o the_o will_v necessary_o determine_v itself_o as_o if_o the_o will_n be_v not_o corrupt_v or_o as_o if_o that_o corruption_n that_o be_v in_o the_o will_n be_v indeed_o no_o corruption_n as_o if_o that_o corruption_n that_o be_v in_o the_o will_n can_v be_v any_o more_o remove_v from_o the_o will_n without_o the_o immediate_a work_n of_o the_o spirit_n upon_o it_o than_o darkness_n can_v be_v remove_v from_o the_o judgement_n without_o the_o spirit_n immediate_a work_n on_o it_o but_o see_v the_o will_n be_v the_o prime_a seat_n of_o man_n perverseness_n while_o in_o nature_n and_o the_o principal_a part_n to_o be_v renew_v it_o be_v a_o strange_a thing_n to_o say_v that_o in_o the_o work_n of_o conversion_n other_o faculty_n and_o power_n of_o the_o soul_n must_v be_v renew_v and_o yet_o that_o this_o which_o come_v near_a to_o
the_o life_n of_o the_o soul_n shall_v be_v neglect_v or_o not_o stand_v in_o need_n of_o renovation_n but_o from_o this_o text_n it_o be_v clear_a that_o in_o conversion_n the_o arm_n of_o the_o lord_n must_v be_v reveal_v and_o that_o there_o be_v a_o powerful_a work_n of_o grace_n that_o not_o only_o present_v reason_n from_o the_o word_n to_o move_v the_o will_n but_o real_o regenerate_v and_o renew_v the_o will_n now_o what_o be_v for_o the_o refutation_n of_o it_o these_o error_n serve_v also_o to_o confirm_v we_o in_o the_o truth_n of_o the_o doctrine_n opposite_a to_o these_o error_n 2._o it_o serve_v to_o refute_v something_o in_o folk_n practise_v and_o that_o be_v their_o little_a sense_n of_o the_o need_n of_o grace_n most_o part_n come_v and_o hear_v preach_v as_o if_o they_o have_v the_o habit_n of_o faith_n and_o as_o if_o it_o be_v natural_a to_o they_o and_o pretend_v to_o the_o exercise_n of_o faith_n never_o once_o suspect_v their_o want_n of_o faith_n think_v that_o they_o have_v grace_n enough_o and_o if_o they_o pray_v it_o be_v that_o they_o may_v do_v well_o never_o mind_v the_o corruption_n of_o nature_n that_o be_v in_o they_o and_o indeed_o it_o be_v no_o wonder_n that_o such_o person_n fall_v ready_o into_o error_n when_o their_o practice_n say_v plain_o they_o think_v they_o have_v grace_n enough_o already_o the_o second_o doctrine_n be_v that_o this_o distinct_a real_a inward_a efficacious_a powerful_a work_n of_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n in_o conversion_n be_v not_o common_a to_o all_o the_o hearer_n of_o the_o gospel_n but_o be_v a_o rare_a thing_n apply_v but_o to_o few_o it_o be_v even_o as_o rare_a as_o faith_n be_v and_o what_o we_o touch_v on_o to_o evidence_n the_o rarity_n of_o faith_n will_v serve_v also_o to_o evidence_n the_o rarity_n of_o this_o work_n of_o grace_n in_o conversion_n it_o be_v on_o as_o many_o as_o be_v believer_n and_o be_v save_v that_o the_o work_n of_o grace_n be_v reveal_v and_o no_o more_o jer._n 3.14_o i_o will_v take_v one_o of_o a_o city_n and_o two_o of_o a_o family_n and_o bring_v you_o to_o zion_n say_v the_o lord_n it_o be_v two_o or_o three_o in_o the_o corner_n of_o a_o paroch_n or_o in_o the_o end_n of_o a_o town_n to_o speak_v so_o who_o be_v convert_v and_o the_o rest_n be_v suffer_v to_o lie_v in_o black_a nature_n if_o the_o reason_n hereof_o be_v erquire_v after_o this_o may_v be_v sufficient_a to_o stop_v all_o mouth_n which_o the_o lord_n give_v mat._n 11.28_o even_o so_o father_n for_o so_o it_o seem_v good_a in_o thy_o sight_n it_o be_v of_o the_o lord_n who_o be_v debtor_n to_o none_o and_o who_o as_o it_o be_v rom._n 9.15_o show_v mercy_n on_o who_o he_o will_v and_o who_o he_o will_v he_o harden_v and_o here_o we_o must_v be_v silent_a and_o he_o choose_v and_o convert_v very_o ordinary_o he_o hide_v his_o grace_n from_o these_o it_o be_v but_o seldom_o that_o he_o call_v and_o take_v the_o stout_a and_o valiant_a man_n and_o the_o learned_a scholar_n but_o it_o be_v this_o and_o that_o poor_a mean_a man_n the_o weaver_n the_o shoemaker_n the_o simple_a ploughman_n etc._n etc._n who_o most_o ordinary_o he_o call_v when_o he_o suffer_v other_o to_o continue_v in_o their_o sin_n 2._o that_o he_o may_v make_v all_o the_o hearer_n of_o the_o gospel_n walk_v in_o holy_a fear_n and_o awe_n of_o he_o he_o reveal_v his_o grace_n in_o few_o it_o be_v not_o the_o multitude_n that_o believe_v but_o here_o one_o and_o there_o one_o that_o all_o that_o have_v the_o offer_v of_o grace_n may_v fear_v lest_o they_o miss_v it_o and_o that_o believe_v be_v of_o ourselves_o and_o that_o it_o be_v in_o the_o power_n of_o man_n freewill_n to_o close_v the_o bargain_n all_o be_v not_o here_o of_o grace_n our_o justification_n be_v not_o free_a but_o someway_n depend_v on_o freewill_n it_o overturn_v the_o perseverance_n of_o the_o saint_n for_o if_o believe_v depend_v on_o freewill_n than_o our_o perseverance_n depend_v on_o work_n it_o will_v be_v wrought_v and_o if_o not_o it_o will_v not_o be_v wrought_v and_o thus_o atheism_n and_o profanity_n steal_v in_o secret_o upon_o the_o heart_n and_o the_o sweet_a doctrine_n of_o grace_n be_v abuse_v and_o pervert_v by_o such_o to_o their_o own_o destruction_n there_o be_v other_o again_o who_o it_o may_v be_v will_v not_o dare_v so_o to_o top_n with_o god_n who_o yet_o have_v their_o own_o faint_v and_o discouragement_n when_o they_o hear_v of_o this_o doctrine_n and_o think_v it_o hard_o that_o they_o themselves_o can_v do_v nothing_o and_o fear_v that_o they_o apostle_n do_v rom._n 11.33_o o_o the_o depth_n of_o the_o riches_n both_o of_o the_o wisdom_n and_o knowledge_n of_o god_n how_o unsearchable_a be_v his_o judgement_n and_o his_o way_n past_o find_v out_o you_o will_v also_o consider_v that_o other_o word_n rom._n 9.20_o who_o be_v thou_o that_o reply_v against_o god_n or_o expostulate_v with_o he_o shall_v the_o thing_n form_v say_v to_o he_o that_o form_v it_o why_o have_v thou_o make_v i_o thus_o it_o be_v good_a to_o inquire_v and_o to_o seek_v to_o know_v the_o use_n the_o lord_n call_v for_o of_o this_o doctrine_n with_o sobriety_n but_o there_o be_v a_o inquire_v to_o satisfy_v curiosity_n which_o the_o lord_n abhor_v as_o we_o may_v gather_v from_o exod._n 19_o 21._o where_o the_o lord_n be_v to_o deliver_v his_o â—â—â—l_n curiosity_n it_o displease_v he_o this_o may_v be_v useful_a in_o many_o case_n and_o particular_o in_o this_o we_o have_v in_o hand_n to_o teach_v we_o sobriety_n in_o seek_v to_o know_v the_o way_n of_o god_n grace_n as_o the_o lord_n will_v have_v his_o people_n exod._n 19_o wait_v for_o as_o much_o of_o his_o mind_n as_o he_o think_v fit_a to_o acquaint_v they_o with_o and_o to_o write_v on_o the_o two_o table_n of_o stone_n but_o he_o will_v not_o have_v they_o break_v in_o over_o the_o boundary_a or_o march_v which_o he_o do_v set_v to_o they_o lest_o he_o shall_v break_v thorough_a on_o they_o and_o they_o shall_v be_v make_v to_o perish_v so_o will_v he_o have_v man_n in_o their_o study_v the_o knowledge_n of_o his_o way_n and_o particular_o of_o the_o way_n of_o his_o grace_n to_o keep_v his_o measure_n and_o to_o contain_v themselves_o within_o the_o limit_n that_o he_o please_v to_o set_v to_o they_o 2._o abstain_v from_o carnal_a frete_n at_o and_o expostulate_v with_o the_o the_o devil_n great_a design_n which_o he_o drive_v to_o trouble_v the_o clear_a spring_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o to_o revive_v this_o error_n among_o the_o rest_n and_o there_o be_v something_o of_o it_o in_o these_o poor_a fool_n body_n who_o speak_v so_o much_o of_o a_o light_n within_o as_o if_o all_o be_v alike_o and_o have_v something_o which_o if_o they_o use_v well_o they_o may_v get_v life_n by_o this_o error_n always_o leave_v man_n to_o be_v master_n and_o carver_n of_o god_n decree_n and_o of_o christ_n purpose_n and_o design_n in_o the_o work_n of_o redemption_n and_o suspend_v the_o benefit_n of_o his_o death_n main_o if_o not_o only_o on_o the_o consent_n of_o man_n freewill_n a_o second_o branch_n of_o the_o error_n which_o this_o doctrine_n refute_v be_v that_o which_o be_v vent_v by_o some_o who_o be_v not_o profess_a enemy_n but_o in_o other_o thing_n deserve_v well_o of_o the_o church_n of_o christ_n which_o therefore_o shall_v be_v our_o grief_n to_o covenant_n of_o work_n be_v stand_v against_o they_o and_o over_o their_o head_n who_o be_v not_o by_o faith_n unite_v to_o christ_n jesus_n and_o justify_v by_o his_o righteousness_n the_o 3._o doctrine_n which_o be_v almost_o the_o very_a word_n of_o the_o text_n that_o now_o we_o intend_v to_o speak_v to_o be_v this_o that_o although_o all_o man_n natural_o be_v obnoxious_a to_o the_o sentence_n of_o the_o law_n and_o to_o the_o curse_n of_o god_n yet_o there_o be_v a_o way_n lay_v down_o how_o a_o sinner_n so_o obnoxious_a may_v be_v justify_v and_o fir_v from_o that_o sentence_n and_o this_o be_v by_o faith_n in_o jesus_n christ_n only_o if_o any_o doctrine_n be_v of_o concernment_n for_o we_o to_o know_v and_o to_o be_v well_o and_o experimental_o acquaint_v with_o this_o be_v of_o concernment_n to_o we_o by_o his_o knowledge_n shall_v my_o righteous_a servant_n justify_v many_o there_o be_v three_o thing_n in_o this_o doctrine_n employ_v which_o by_o one_o and_o the_o further_a confirmation_n of_o the_o doctrine_n you_o will_v consider_v these_o four_o ground_n and_o you_o will_v see_v from_o they_o good_a reason_n for_o it_o only_o remember_v this_o that_o make_v in_o the_o room_n of_o sinner_n as_o the_o next_o word_n hold_v out_o for_o he_o shall_v bear_v their_o iniquity_n and_o v._o ult_n he_o bear_v the_o sin_n of_o many_o nay_o this_o be_v the_o great_a scope_n of_o the_o chapter_n therefore_o it_o be_v say_v that_o he_o have_v bear_v our_o grief_n and_o carry_v our_o sorrow_n and_o that_o the_o lord_n have_v lay_v on_o he_o the_o iniquity_n have_v accept_v that_o as_o a_o satisfaction_n for_o our_o debt_n or_o not_o but_o the_o consideration_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o redemption_n remove_v that_o doubt_v and_o give_v faith_n a_o ground_n to_o lay_v hold_n on_o christ_n suffering_n as_o satisfactory_a to_o the_o justice_n of_o god_n because_o in_o the_o covenant_n of_o redemption_n it_o be_v so_o transact_v and_o agree_v upon_o betwixt_o god_n and_o the_o mediator_n therefore_o the_o apostle_n speak_v heb._n 10.8_o 9_o and_o forward_o from_o psal_n 40._o of_o this_o covenant_n show_v that_o when_o sacrifice_n and_o they_o can_v miss_v justification_n and_o where_o be_v there_o one_o person_n among_o many_o if_o it_o be_v not_o some_o poor_a body_n even_o it_o may_v be_v poor_a in_o the_o world_n that_o ever_o think_v that_o the_o severity_n of_o the_o law_n or_o the_o threaten_n thereof_o concern_v they_o but_o be_v there_o any_o more_o way_n to_o heaven_n but_o one_o or_o be_v there_o one_o for_o the_o rich_a and_o another_o for_o the_o poor_a do_v not_o all_o come_v in_o at_o this_o door_n be_v not_o this_o the_o way_n even_o to_o take_v with_o your_o sin_n and_o to_o flee_v to_o christ_n for_o filthiness_n they_o conclude_v they_o be_v absolve_v but_o never_o look_v inward_a to_o see_v if_o there_o be_v ground_n to_o bear_v that_o conclusion_n 6_o and_o last_o there_o be_v a_o sort_n that_o be_v formal_a and_o hypocritical_a they_o be_v never_o gross_o profane_a but_o they_o be_v as_o little_a true_o and_o serious_o religious_a you_o have_v need_v therefore_o to_o take_v heed_n whereon_o you_o find_v your_o peace_n and_o beware_v that_o you_o take_v not_o the_o form_n of_o godliness_n for_o the_o power_n of_o it_o especial_o when_o the_o form_n be_v come_v to_o so_o great_a a_o to_o the_o believe_v usemaking_a of_o christ_n for_o come_v at_o peace_n with_o god_n it_o will_v follow_v now_o that_o we_o shall_v speak_v a_o little_a to_o that_o use_v of_o refutation_n that_o flow_v native_o from_o this_o doctrine_n for_o if_o this_o be_v the_o way_n and_o the_o only_a way_n of_o the_o justification_n of_o a_o sinner_n before_o god_n to_o wit_n by_o or_o through_o faith_n in_o christ_n righteousness_n then_o all_o these_o way_n that_o lead_v not_o sinner_n to_o rest_v on_o christ_n righteousness_n alone_o for_o justification_n and_o peace_n must_v be_v inconsistent_a with_o the_o gospel_n and_o so_o to_o be_v reject_v and_o abhor_v whether_o they_o be_v in_o doctrine_n or_o in_o practice_n and_o we_o choose_v the_o rather_o to_o speak_v a_o word_n to_o this_o because_o it_o will_v clear_v the_o doctrine_n of_o justification_n by_o faith_n the_o more_o when_o we_o come_v to_o see_v and_o consider_v these_o corruption_n and_o error_n that_o be_v foist_v in_o by_o heterodox_n man_n in_o this_o great_a truth_n of_o god_n to_o the_o pervert_v and_o corrupt_v thereof_o and_o it_o will_v the_o more_o provoke_v we_o to_o thankfulness_n to_o god_n who_o have_v gracious_o deliver_v we_o from_o these_o snare_n error_n and_o corruption_n a_o error_n and_o mistake_n here_o about_o the_o substance_n of_o this_o truth_n be_v such_o as_o though_o we_o hold_v all_o other_o truth_n incorrupt_v will_v ruin_v we_o there_o be_v we_o suppose_v four_o sort_n of_o error_n especial_o that_o contradict_v this_o grand_a truth_n anent_o justification_n by_o faith_n in_o christ_n righteousness_n to_o which_o we_o shall_v speak_v a_o little_a the_o 1._o be_v that_o old_a root_a error_n of_o papist_n who_o in_o this_o point_n â—nervat_fw-la and_o overturn_v the_o in_o his_o justice_n and_o mercy_n they_o do_v what_o they_o can_v that_o god_n shall_v neither_o be_v just_a nor_o gracious_a but_o he_o shall_v be_v just_o in_o condemn_v they_o whether_o they_o will_v or_o not_o though_o he_o be_v not_o glorify_v in_o his_o grace_n as_o to_o they_o they_o set_v themselves_o what_o they_o can_v to_o let_v it_o yet_o in_o his_o justice_n he_o shall_v most_o will_v be_v find_v to_o have_v do_v this_o and_o to_o have_v come_v short_a of_o righteousness_n for_o the_o 3d._a thâ—t_n be_v the_o meritorious_a cause_n take_v it_o in_o this_o doctrine_n that_o the_o meritorious_a cause_n that_o procure_v our_o justification_n and_o with_o respect_n to_o which_o god_n justify_v a_o sinner_n be_v the_o alone_a merit_n and_o satisfaction_n of_o christ_n jesus_n and_o this_o arise_v from_o the_o text_n on_o these_o two_o consideration_n 1._o because_o this_o justification_n be_v lay_v down_o as_o a_o effect_n of_o christ_n soul-travel_n and_o suffer_v and_o if_o justification_n be_v the_o proper_a and_o immediate_a effect_n of_o christ_n suffering_n then_o his_o soul-suffering_n must_v be_v the_o meritorious_a cause_n of_o it_o we_o can_v imagine_v and_o we_o differ_v they_o grant_v that_o christ_n satisfaction_n be_v the_o meritorious_a cause_n but_o remot_o only_o as_o it_o procure_v inward_a or_o inherent_a grace_n by_o which_o we_o merit_v but_o they_o will_v not_o have_v it_o to_o be_v the_o only_a meritorious_a cause_n but_o will_v needs_o have_v our_o own_o work_n to_o merit_v also_o and_o that_o proper_o whereas_o the_o prophet_n
