without_o nor_o contrary_a to_o the_o sacred_a scripture_n the_o word_n of_o christ_n be_v full_a of_o mystery_n its_o holy_a and_o sublime_a doctrine_n be_v not_o easy_o understand_v nor_o can_v it_o be_v without_o the_o spirit_n help_v the_o understanding_n in_o a_o right_n and_o save_a manner_n it_o be_v give_v to_o christ_n sheep_n to_o understand_v the_o mystery_n of_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n and_o to_o other_o it_o be_v not_o give_v 2._o christ_n sheep_n
hand_n no_o no_o god_n will_v not_o trust_v it_o in_o our_o own_o keep_n but_o it_o be_v put_v into_o the_o hand_n or_o commit_v to_o the_o keep_n of_o our_o bless_a trustee_n who_o will_v give_v in_o his_o word_n though_o his_o elect_a one_o can_v fall_v final_o 2._o we_o may_v also_o infer_v from_o hence_o that_o the_o reason_n why_o some_o fall_n quite_o away_o be_v because_o their_o satan_n whilst_o there_o be_v life_n in_o our_o body_n or_o blood_n in_o our_o vein_n 9_o it_o may_v teach_v we_o also_o to_o be_v aware_a of_o deceiver_n since_o they_o some_o time_n trip_v up_o from_o utter_a despair_n for_o though_o they_o fall_v they_o shall_v rise_v again_o as_o the_o true_o godly_a of_o who_o fall_v we_o read_v of_o in_o the_o scripture_n always_o do_v where_o do_v we_o meet_v with_o one_o godly_a person_n that_o the_o lord_n declare_v so_o to_o be_v who_o fall_v and_o rise_v no_o more_o or_o that_o there_o be_v no_o ground_n leave_v in_o the_o word_n for_o we_o to_o believe_v they_o be_v save_v 11._o last_o it_o may_v serve_v to_o discover_v the_o infinite_a grace_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n who_o have_v secure_v the_o stand_n of_o his_o own_o faithful_a one_o be_v in_o this_o floor_n also_o who_o show_v their_o sin_n as_o sodom_n and_o hide_v it_o not_o many_o of_o they_o go_v reel_v along_o the_o street_n and_o some_o spue_v as_o they_o go_v foam_v out_o their_o own_o shame_n and_o little_o think_v what_o poison_n they_o drink_v to_o their_o own_o precious_a and_o immortal_a soul_n while_o they_o tipple_n down_o their_o glass_n of_o wine_n and_o strong_a drink_n and_o this_o they_o do_v without_o all_o fear_n of_o humane_a or_o divine_a law_n have_v no_o dread_n of_o present_a nor_o future_a punishment_n though_o god_n positive_o theaten_v go_v to_o playhouse_n and_o though_o god_n have_v show_v in_o several_a poor_a animal_n his_o great_a wrath_n and_o displeasure_n against_o this_o filthy_a fashion_n or_o high_a and_o shameful_a head-dress_n yet_o they_o will_v not_o reform_v nor_o leave_v they_o off_o nor_o be_v this_o sin_n only_o find_v among_o those_o of_o this_o floor_n this_o heap_n but_o also_o among_o other_o who_o will_v be_v think_v more_o pure_a and_o of_o a_o fine_a sort_n but_o let_v they_o know_v the_o fanner_n will_v sudden_o come_v with_o his_o fan_n in_o his_o hand_n the_o day_n come_v shall_v burn_v some_o one_o lust_n or_o another_o on_o the_o love_n of_o this_o world_n or_o on_o their_o carnal_a and_o sensual_a pleasure_n and_o because_o they_o be_v never_o saving_o renew_v have_v no_o new_a nature_n they_o can_v not_o feed_v on_o spiritual_a thing_n so_o as_o to_o digest_v they_o no_o doubt_v it_o be_v or_o be_v such_o a_o taste_n as_o the_o full_a stomach_n take_v sometime_o of_o food_n a_o full_a stomach_n will_v taste_v yet_o refuse_v to_o eat_v they_o have_v no_o appetite_n these_o be_v glut_v with_o the_o love_n of_o other_o thing_n the_o heavenly_a gift_n be_v not_o so_o sweet_a to_o they_o as_o food_n be_v to_o a_o hungry_a man._n the_o sum_n than_o be_v this_o these_o person_n have_v or_o may_v have_v some_o experience_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n in_o the_o miraculous_a show_v you_o what_o be_v not_o a_o legal_a doctrine_n or_o a_o legal_a way_n of_o preach_v second_o show_v you_o what_o be_v a_o legal_a doctrine_n or_o not_o evangelical_n preach_v 1._o to_o preach_v god_n a_o just_a and_o holy_a god_n be_v no_o legal_a doctrine_n though_o the_o law_n it_o be_v true_a hold_v he_o forth_o so_o to_o be_v that_o discover_v that_o god_n be_v just_o but_o his_o mercy_n be_v veil_v under_o dark_a shadow_n type_n and_o legal_a sacrifice_n but_o now_o the_o gospel_n set_v forth_o the_o infinite_a justice_n of_o god_n beyond_o the_o law_n for_o in_o a_o ceremonial_a way_n the_o blood_n of_o beast_n seem_v to_o pacify_v god_n wrath._n though_o we_o deny_v not_o but_o the_o blood_n of_o jesus_n christ_n the_o great_a sacrifice_n which_o alone_o in_o a_o proper_a sense_n can_v satisfy_v for_o sin_n be_v hold_v forth_o thereby_o but_o in_o the_o gospel_n the_o justice_n and_o holiness_n of_o god_n so_o clear_o shine_v forth_o in_o jesus_n christ_n that_o it_o be_v with_o open_a face_n manifest_v unto_o all_o all_o may_v behold_v therein_o the_o just_a actual_o slay_v and_o make_v a_o sacrifice_n for_o the_o unjust_a never_o do_v god_n justice_n appear_v so_o full_o as_o it_o do_v in_o the_o suffer_a and_o death_n of_o christ_n for_o sin_n therefore_o to_o preach_v the_o severity_n and_o justice_n of_o god_n against_o sin_n and_o sinner_n can_v be_v no_o legal_a doctrine_n 2._o to_o preach_v repentance_n the_o necessity_n of_o repentance_n regeneration_n and_o holiness_n be_v no_o legal_a doctrine_n but_o it_o be_v pure_a gospel_n the_o law_n allow_v of_o no_o repentance_n for_o those_o that_o sin_v against_o moses_n be_v law_n die_v without_o mercy_n under_o two_o or_o three_o witness_n do_v 28._o not_o mistake_v i_o i_o do_v not_o say_v that_o there_o be_v no_o repentance_n for_o such_o who_o live_v under_o the_o dispensation_n of_o the_o law_n for_o though_o the_o law_n or_o first_o covenant_n allow_v of_o no_o repentance_n yet_o the_o gospel_n be_v preach_v to_o adam_n to_o abraham_n to_o moses_n david_n etc._n etc._n but_o pray_v remember_v and_o consider_v it_o well_o that_o repentance_n come_v in_o not_o through_o the_o law_n but_o through_o the_o gospel_n upon_o the_o account_n of_o christ_n satisfaction_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v only_o a_o gospel-blessing_n which_o be_v due_o consider_v man_n have_v little_a reason_n to_o
god_n sight_n and_o accept_v for_o the_o sake_n of_o christ_n merit_n not_o that_o christ_n righteousness_n alone_o be_v the_o matter_n of_o our_o justification_n exclusive_a of_o all_o our_o inherent_a righteousness_n and_o obedience_n no_o no_o but_o rather_o it_o be_v our_o righteousness_n which_o do_v justify_v we_o the_o gospel_n according_a to_o these_o man_n be_v propound_v as_o a_o law_n and_o god_n as_o a_o rector_n or_o just_a governor_n command_v obedience_n thereunto_o as_o the_o procure_a cause_n of_o our_o justification_n so_o that_o our_o faith_n and_o obedience_n be_v a_o cause_n and_o condition_n of_o life_n as_o unbelief_n and_o disobedience_n be_v the_o cause_n of_o eternal_a death_n but_o have_v former_o detect_v this_o dangerous_a error_n i_o shall_v not_o further_o insist_v upon_o the_o confutation_n of_o it_o here_o 5._o such_o preach_v a_o legal_a doctrine_n that_o render_v man_n a_o co-worker_n with_o christ_n in_o the_o salvation_n of_o their_o own_o soul_n by_o which_o mean_v there_o be_v room_n leave_v for_o he_o to_o boast_v and_o glory_n such_o a_o doctrine_n they_o preach_v who_o magnify_v the_o will_n of_o man_n or_o the_o power_n of_o the_o creature_n which_o i_o hope_v i_o have_v by_o the_o assistance_n of_o god_n sufficient_o detect_v and_o refute_v in_o this_o treatise_n all_o boast_a be_v exclude_v by_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n in_o the_o gospel_n man_n be_v abase_v and_o god_n alone_o exalt_v application_n i_o shall_v now_o come_v to_o make_v the_o general_a application_n of_o what_o i_o have_v say_v unto_o you_o from_o this_o great_a text_n and_o so_o conclude_v with_o all_o i_o shall_v say_v from_o it_o first_o inform._n first_o by_o way_n of_o information_n the_o doctrine_n which_o have_v in_o these_o sermon_n be_v insist_v on_o may_v inform_v we_o that_o gospel-sin_n be_v the_o great_a sin_n and_o that_o the_o blind_a heathen_n be_v not_o can_v be_v so_o guilty_a and_o culpable_a before_o god_n nor_o in_o neglect_v of_o gospel-grace_n second_o this_o may_v also_o inform_v we_o how_o strange_o mankind_n be_v blind_v and_o deceive_v by_o the_o god_n of_o this_o world_n in_o that_o small_a thing_n be_v account_v great_a and_o that_o which_o be_v of_o the_o great_a concernment_n be_v little_a or_o not_o at_o all_o regard_v but_o esteem_v as_o a_o trivial_a matter_n o_o say_v some_o we_o must_v mind_v the_o main_a chance_n they_o mean_v the_o main_a business_n in_o respect_n of_o their_o earthly_a subsistence_n which_o be_v to_o get_v bread_n and_o to_o provide_v for_o the_o body_n for_o their_o wife_n and_o child_n now_o the_o doctrine_n which_o you_o have_v hear_v show_v you_o how_o you_o be_v delude_v that_o look_v upon_o earthly_a thing_n to_o be_v the_o main_a business_n you_o shall_v look_v after_o what_o be_v of_o such_o importance_n as_o the_o salvation_n of_o your_o precious_a and_o immortal_a soul_n and_o to_o be_v provide_v for_o a_o endless_a eternity_n three_o i_o may_v infer_v from_o hence_o that_o the_o great_a part_n of_o mankind_n be_v unbeliever_n for_o all_o that_o neglect_v this_o salvation_n and_o look_v not_o upon_o this_o matter_n as_o their_o chief_a business_n be_v doubtless_o in_o a_o state_n of_o unbelief_n they_o do_v not_o credit_v this_o holy_a doctrine_n they_o believe_v not_o god_n word_n if_o one_o shall_v tell_v you_o that_o be_v go_v a_o journey_n that_o if_o you_o go_v such_o a_o way_n you_o will_v certain_o be_v destroy_v by_o thief_n or_o wild_a beast_n yet_o you_o will_v go_v on_o will_v it_o not_o follow_v clear_o that_o you_o believe_v not_o what_o be_v tell_v you_o why_o thus_o it_o be_v here_o sinner_n be_v tell_v and_o assure_v from_o the_o word_n of_o god_n as_o certain_a as_o god_n be_v true_a and_o his_o word_n true_a that_o if_o they_o leave_v not_o their_o swear_v their_o pride_n their_o drunkenness_n their_o lie_v their_o lust_n and_o uncleanness_n their_o worldly-mindedness_a and_o their_o prefer_v earth_n and_o the_o thing_n of_o the_o world_n above_o the_o thing_n of_o god_n or_o if_o they_o do_v not_o believe_v repent_v and_o be_v bear_v again_o they_o shall_v certain_o perish_v for_o ever_o yet_o they_o go_v on_o and_o live_v in_o those_o way_n of_o sin_n and_o believe_v not_o repent_v not_o this_o be_v a_o evident_a sign_n that_o they_o do_v not_o give_v credit_n to_o what_o be_v tell_v they_o and_o so_o be_v unbeliever_n and_o if_o they_o still_o persist_v in_o their_o way_n they_o will_v be_v certain_o damn_v 1._o our_o saviour_n say_v except_o you_o repent_v you_o shall_v all_o likewise_o perish_v 3._o you_o shall_v not_o escape_v eternal_a wrath_n be_v you_o great_a sinner_n or_o not_o sinner_n of_o the_o first_o rank_n the_o wicked_a shall_v be_v turn_v into_o hell_n and_o all_o the_o nation_n that_o forget_v god_n 2._o christ_n say_v he_o that_o believe_v not_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n abide_v on_o he_o and_o they_o that_o do_v not_o believe_v be_v tell_v there_o be_v that_o notwithstanding_o that_o yet_o unless_o they_o be_v bear_v again_o unless_o they_o get_v faith_n in_o jesus_n christ_n and_o their_o righteousness_n exceed_v the_o righteousness_n of_o the_o scribe_n and_o pharisee_n and_o they_o obtain_v the_o righteousness_n of_o christ_n they_o can_v enter_v into_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n now_o they_o will_v not_o believe_v this_o but_o conclude_v their_o state_n be_v good_a and_o that_o morality_n be_v sufficient_a to_o save_v their_o soul_n which_o show_v that_o these_o be_v unbeliever_n also_o 4._o other_o be_v tell_v that_o their_o good_a deed_n their_o good_a duty_n their_o prayer_n their_o hear_n of_o sermon_n or_o their_o be_v baptise_a and_o have_v communion_n with_o god_n people_n will_v not_o do_v unless_o they_o be_v save_o renew_v and_o sanctify_a have_v the_o true_a grace_n of_o god_n in_o their_o heart_n and_o lead_v a_o godly_a holy_a and_o spiritual_a life_n find_v the_o powerful_a operation_n of_o the_o spirit_n change_v they_o into_o the_o likeness_n of_o jesus_n christ_n but_o they_o believe_v it_o not_o but_o rest_n upon_o their_o duty_n and_o outward_a privilege_n though_o they_o be_v tell_v the_o kingdom_n of_o god_n be_v not_o in_o meat_n and_o drink_n but_o in_o righteousness_n and_o truth_n and_o joy_n in_o the_o holy_a ghost_n or_o that_o the_o kingdom_n of_o god_n be_v not_o inward_a only_o but_o in_o power_n also_o and_o that_o lamp_n of_o profession_n will_v not_o save_v they_o except_o they_o have_v oil_n in_o their_o vessel_n many_o of_o these_o be_v like_o the_o foolish_a virgin_n and_o believe_v it_o not_o but_o rest_n on_o a_o bare_a name_n of_o christian_n on_o a_o form_n of_o godliness_n and_o may_v be_v fall_n short_a too_o as_o to_o a_o outward_a profession_n of_o godliness_n for_o so_o do_v they_o who_o pray_v not_o in_o the_o closet_n nor_o in_o their_o family_n neither_o read_v god_n word_n nor_o make_v it_o their_o business_n to_o hear_v
