and_o work_v a_o true_a sign_n yet_o he_o must_v die_v if_o by_o his_o false_a doctrine_n he_o seek_v to_o withdraw_v god_n people_n from_o the_o true_a god_n so_o when_o the_o jew_n ask_v christ_n by_o what_o authority_n he_o do_v those_o 3._o thing_n that_o be_v what_o warrant_v and_o calling_n he_o have_v to_o do_v as_o he_o do_v he_o answer_v they_o by_o another_o question_n touch_v johns_n ministry_n thereby_o show_v that_o that_o which_o he_o do_v be_v warrant_v by_o the_o testimony_n of_o john_n and_o johns_n testimony_n be_v true_a because_o his_o call_n be_v from_o god_n and_o his_o call_n he_o justify_v because_o his_o doctrine_n signify_v by_o his_o baptism_n be_v from_o god_n so_o galat._n 1._o 8._o he_o which_o teach_v otherwise_o then_o they_o have_v learn_v out_o of_o the_o prophet_n from_o the_o apostle_n let_v he_o be_v accurse_v though_o he_o be_v a_o angel_n from_o heaven_n and_o thus_o much_o for_o the_o meaning_n of_o this_o rule_n uses_n 1._o from_o this_o rule_n we_o have_v to_o answer_v the_o papist_n and_o all_o popish_a person_n who_o use_v to_o plead_v in_o defence_n of_o their_o religion_n after_o this_o sort_n if_o our_o religion_n be_v false_a show_v we_o the_o time_n when_o it_o be_v corrupt_v 70._o the_o man_n that_o corrupt_v it_o and_o the_o manner_n how_o it_o be_v corrupt_v for_o once_o we_o have_v the_o pure_a religion_n we_o may_v answer_v they_o by_o the_o like_a that_o a_o man_n may_v say_v as_o well_o of_o a_o ship_n that_o be_v sink_v on_o the_o sea_n that_o it_o be_v not_o sink_v because_o no_o man_n can_v tell_v where_o and_o when_o and_o by_o what_o mean_v it_o take_v water_n but_o yet_o further_o we_o have_v here_o to_o answer_v that_o though_o we_o know_v not_o when_o their_o religion_n be_v corrupt_v and_o by_o who_o yet_o see_v their_o teacher_n and_o people_n have_v in_o they_o and_o among_o they_o the_o necessary_a fruit_n of_o antichristian_a prophet_n and_o people_n we_o can_v thereby_o assure_v ourselves_o they_o be_v corrupt_v and_o
whereof_o hatred_n be_v the_o root_n and_o the_o rest_n be_v the_o branch_n three_o christ_n lay_v 3_o down_o the_o cause_n for_o which_o this_o persecution_n shall_v be_v inflict_v namely_o for_o the_o seed_n of_o the_o serpent_n and_o the_o seed_n of_o the_o 3._o woman_n as_o than_o he_o that_o be_v bear_v of_o the_o flesh_n persecute_v he_o that_o be_v bear_v after_o the_o spirit_n so_o be_v it_o now_o gal._n 4._o 29._o second_o observe_v that_o this_o hatred_n of_o the_o world_n be_v not_o only_o against_o the_o member_n of_o god_n church_n but_o even_o against_o christ_n holy_a religion_n so_o christ_n say_v for_o my_o sake_n or_o for_o my_o religion_n sake_n this_o be_v to_o be_v mark_v as_o a_o most_o excellent_a argument_n to_o persuade_v our_o conscience_n that_o the_o gospel_n of_o christ_n which_o we_o profess_v be_v the_o true_a and_o bless_a doctrine_n of_o god_n because_o the_o wicked_a world_n do_v always_o hate_v it_o yea_o it_o hate_v we_o also_o for_o the_o gospel_n sake_n now_o if_o it_o be_v a_o doctrine_n of_o man_n it_o will_v fit_v their_o nature_n well_o and_o they_o will_v love_v it_o for_o the_o world_n do_v love_v his_o own_o joh._n 15._o 19_o three_o if_o they_o be_v bless_v that_o suffer_v persecution_n then_o how_o may_v any_o man_n lawful_o fly_v in_o persecution_n answer_n a_o man_n may_v fly_v in_o persecution_n with_o good_a conscience_n these_o two_o thing_n observe_v first_o that_o he_o be_v persecution_n not_o hinder_v by_o his_o particular_a call_n second_o that_o he_o have_v liberty_n offer_v by_o god_n providence_n to_o escape_v the_o hand_n of_o his_o enemy_n the_o intent_n of_o this_o verse_n be_v not_o to_o forbid_v flight_n but_o to_o comfort_v such_o as_o be_v in_o persecution_n and_o can_v escape_v for_o the_o word_n signify_v such_o persecution_n as_o be_v by_o pursuit_n and_o oppression_n which_o can_v be_v avoid_v last_o see_v they_o be_v bless_v that_o suffer_v for_o righteousness_n sake_n whether_o be_v they_o always_o curse_v that_o suffer_v deserve_o for_o a_o evil_a cause_n for_o the_o contrary_a reason_n be_v in_o contrary_n ans._n they_o be_v always_o accurse_v save_v in_o one_o case_n to_o wit_n unless_o they_o repent_v for_o their_o unrighteousness_n for_o which_o they_o be_v afflict_v but_o by_o true_a repentance_n they_o become_v bless_v the_o thief_n upon_o the_o cross_n have_v live_v in_o theft_n and_o be_v therefore_o attach_v condemn_v and_o crucify_v and_o so_o he_o suffer_v for_o unrighteousness_n but_o yet_o he_o be_v save_v because_o he_o repent_v and_o affliction_n or_o persecution_n as_o imprisonment_n banishment_n loss_n of_o good_n or_o of_o life_n itself_o we_o must_v always_o look_v that_o the_o cause_n be_v good_a and_o then_o suffer_v the_o second_o offence_n take_v from_o the_o doctrine_n of_o our_o church_n be_v from_o strictness_n the_o suppose_a strictness_n and_o rigour_n thereof_o we_o teach_v indeed_o that_o a_o christian_a man_n must_v whole_o deny_v himself_o his_o own_o will_n and_o desire_n and_o resign_v himself_o whole_o unto_o christ_n to_o be_v guide_v by_o his_o spirit_n according_a to_o the_o direction_n of_o his_o word_n now_o hence_o some_o will_v gather_v that_o our_o doctrine_n permit_v not_o a_o man_n to_o laugh_v or_o be_v merry_a or_o to_o do_v any_o thing_n for_o his_o own_o delight_n and_o here_o note_v be_v the_o person_n who_o be_v thus_o astonish_v to_o wit_n the_o people_n or_o the_o multitude_n for_o after_o the_o sermon_n be_v end_v they_o gather_v themselves_o into_o company_n and_o make_v know_v one_o to_o another_o the_o affection_n of_o their_o heart_n towards_o christ_n doctrine_n hence_o we_o may_v gather_v that_o our_o saviour_n christ_n deliver_v his_o dostrine_n be_v answerable_a to_o their_o profession_n yet_o they_o themselves_o practise_v most_o gross_a hypocrisy_n when_o as_o they_o will_v bear_v the_o name_n of_o christian_n in_o profession_n and_o communicate_v with_o the_o lord_n his_o holy_a ordinance_n and_o yet_o make_v no_o conscience_n of_o sin_n but_o scorn_v those_o that_o do_v ephes._n 4._o 1._o paul_n pray_v for_o the_o ephesian_n
