honour_n but_o their_o posterity_n also_o and_o so_o make_v the_o priesthood_n to_o cease_v for_o whereas_o he_o threaten_v the_o child_n he_o much_o more_o include_v the_o parent_n for_o if_o the_o heat_n of_o god_n wrath_n extend_v to_o the_o child_n for_o their_o father_n sin_n much_o more_o shall_v it_o be_v inflame_v against_o the_o father_n themselves_o last_o whereas_o he_o speak_v of_o care_n of_o their_o own_o soul_n though_o other_o neglect_v it_o they_o shall_v count_v this_o one_o thing_n necessary_a to_o be_v instruct_v in_o the_o knowledge_n of_o god_n truth_n and_o prefer_v it_o before_o their_o worldly_a affair_n they_o shall_v want_v this_o precious_a pearl_n of_o god_n word_n rather_o sell_v all_o they_o have_v to_o purchase_v it_o then_o content_v themselves_o to_o be_v without_o it_o they_o shall_v themselves_o read_v study_n and_o meditate_v in_o the_o scripture_n which_o be_v sufficient_a to_o make_v they_o wise_a to_o salvation_n especial_o when_o the_o ordinary_a mean_n fail_v but_o this_o sin_n be_v much_o more_o heinous_a in_o the_o people_n if_o they_o continue_v in_o ignorance_n when_o as_o the_o lord_n give_v they_o liberal_o the_o mean_n of_o knowledge_n if_o they_o wilful_o shut_v their_o eye_n when_o the_o light_n of_o god_n word_n clear_o shine_v unto_o they_o if_o they_o continue_v blind_a because_o they_o will_v not_o see_v if_o they_o refuse_v to_o hear_v the_o word_n preach_v or_o neglect_n and_o despise_v it_o when_o they_o hear_v it_o as_o not_o worth_a the_o know_n or_o remember_v if_o they_o choose_v rather_o to_o be_v under_o blind_a guide_n because_o they_o will_v not_o be_v trouble_v with_o hear_v and_o learning_n or_o with_o admonition_n and_o reprehension_n whereas_o they_o rather_o desire_v to_o live_v quiet_o and_o secure_o in_o their_o sin_n then_o under_o faithful_a and_o painful_a minister_n who_o will_v disturb_v their_o ease_n and_o awake_v their_o conscience_n out_o of_o the_o sleep_n of_o sin_n for_o such_o live_n in_o ignorance_n be_v without_o excuse_n and_o for_o want_v of_o knowledge_n shall_v most_o certain_o be_v destroy_v the_o second_o thing_n to_o be_v observe_v be_v that_o where_o the_o people_n knowledge_n the_o people_n shall_v be_v destroy_v which_o want_n knowledge_n be_v destitute_a of_o knowledge_n for_o want_n of_o instruction_n there_o the_o people_n &_o minister_n shall_v be_v destroy_v the_o people_n first_o because_o they_o content_v themselves_o with_o such_o blind_a guide_v and_o willing_o remain_v in_o their_o ignorance_n second_o because_o want_v knowledge_n they_o deprive_v themselves_o of_o all_o mean_n whereby_o they_o may_v be_v save_v for_o those_o who_o god_n have_v elect_v to_o salvation_n as_o to_o the_o end_n he_o have_v also_o ordain_v that_o they_o shall_v use_v the_o mean_n whereby_o they_o may_v attain_v to_o salvation_n that_o be_v that_o they_o shall_v be_v effectual_o call_v justify_v and_o sanctify_v but_o none_o can_v attain_v to_o any_o of_o these_o mean_n without_o the_o knowledge_n of_o god_n and_o his_o religion_n for_o whosoever_o god_n effectual_o call_v those_o with_o his_o word_n and_o holy_a spirit_n he_o illuminate_v with_o the_o knowledge_n of_o his_o will_n their_o own_o misery_n the_o work_n of_o redemption_n wrought_v by_o christ_n and_o with_o other_o principle_n and_o fundamental_a point_n of_o religion_n without_o then_o this_o knowledge_n there_o be_v no_o effectual_a call_n so_o likewise_o no_o justification_n for_o whosoever_o be_v justify_v they_o be_v also_o endue_v with_o a_o lively_a faith_n whereby_o they_o apply_v unto_o themselves_o the_o merit_n and_o suffering_n of_o christ_n but_o without_o knowledge_n there_o be_v no_o faith_n for_o we_o can_v believe_v and_o be_v ignorance_n he_o be_v unable_a to_o teach_v the_o people_n the_o like_a may_v be_v say_v of_o those_o who_o have_v knowledge_n and_o learning_n do_v not_o instruct_v the_o people_n either_o through_o idleness_n carelessness_n covetousness_n ambition_n or_o want_n of_o a_o good_a conscience_n for_o howsoever_o they_o have_v never_o so_o great_a a_o measure_n of_o knowledge_n yet_o if_o we_o speak_v of_o such_o knowledge_n as_o be_v require_v to_o the_o office_n and_o function_n of_o a_o minister_n they_o have_v only_o so_o much_o as_o they_o make_v use_v of_o in_o minister_n idle_n minister_n as_o bad_a as_o ignorant_a minister_n their_o ministry_n and_o therefore_o if_o they_o use_v little_a or_o none_o at_o all_o they_o have_v little_a or_o none_o of_o that_o knowledge_n which_o be_v require_v of_o they_o the_o lord_n require_v not_o only_o that_o the_o priest_n head_n but_o also_o his_o lip_n shall_v preserve_v knowledge_n and_o that_o the_o people_n from_o his_o mouth_n shall_v seek_v instruction_n mal._n 2._o 7._o 7._o mal._n 2._o 7._o not_o only_o that_o they_o have_v the_o profound_a knowledge_n of_o the_o learned_a but_o that_o they_o have_v the_o tongue_n of_o the_o that_o they_o use_v the_o talent_n not_o only_o that_o they_o have_v store_n of_o provision_n but_o also_o that_o they_o do_v distribute_v it_o to_o the_o relieve_n of_o god_n people_n which_o duty_n if_o they_o neglect_v they_o be_v no_o better_o then_o ignorant_a minister_n nay_o they_o be_v worse_o if_o we_o respect_v their_o own_o mind_n and_o full_a as_o bad_a if_o we_o respect_v the_o people_n benefit_n they_o be_v worse_o in_o themselves_o for_o they_o be_v more_o to_o be_v condemn_v who_o can_v instruct_v they_o and_o will_v not_o than_o they_o that_o will_v and_o can_v for_o they_o be_v like_a unto_o rich_a but_o hard-hearted_a cornemorant_n who_o have_v their_o barn_n and_o garner_n full_a of_o corn_n let_v the_o people_n famish_v for_o want_v of_o food_n or_o at_o least_o like_a monopolist_n have_v engross_v these_o spiritual_a commodity_n they_o will_v not_o utter_v they_o but_o at_o excessive_a rate_n either_o when_o they_o be_v large_o feed_v or_o hope_v thereby_o to_o attain_v unto_o great_a credit_n or_o preferment_n where_o as_o the_o other_o let_v the_o people_n perish_v for_o want_v of_o provision_n and_o furnish_v not_o the_o market_n because_o their_o warehouse_n be_v empty_a the_o ignorant_a minister_n be_v in_o themselves_o dark_a and_o can_v give_v light_n the_o idle_a learned_a minister_n have_v light_a indeed_o but_o whereas_o they_o shall_v set_v it_o in_o the_o candlestick_n of_o the_o church_n they_o hide_v it_o in_o their_o study_n as_o under_o a_o bushel_n and_o will_v not_o lighten_v other_o they_o be_v like_o blind_a eye_n which_o can_v guide_v the_o people_n in_o the_o path_n of_o god_n truth_n these_o eye_n which_o wilful_o wink_v and_o will_v not_o give_v direction_n and_o who_o so_o blind_a as_o they_o who_o will_v not_o see_v they_o be_v dumb_a and_o can_v speak_v these_o sullen_o silent_a and_o will_v not_o speak_v they_o can_v deliver_v god_n ambassage_n because_o they_o want_v wit_n these_o will_v not_o deliver_v it_o and_o will_v not_o because_o they_o will_v not_o they_o starve_v their_o child_n which_o they_o have_v take_v upon_o they_o to_o nurse_n because_o they_o have_v dry_a breast_n these_o best_a commit_v they_o to_o the_o keep_n of_o hireling_n in_o who_o they_o can_v expect_v that_o care_n and_o conscience_n which_o they_o want_v themselves_o see_v they_o be_v the_o principal_a these_o but_o deputy_n they_o bind_v to_o painfulness_n with_o the_o strong_a cable_n of_o their_o charge_n these_o with_o the_o weak_a thread_n of_o some_o small_a stipend_n or_o if_o gain_n be_v store_n they_o will_v not_o communicate_v it_o for_o their_o relief_n save_v that_o it_o be_v a_o great_a torment_n to_o the_o mind_n to_o starve_v in_o the_o sight_n of_o meat_n or_o to_o perish_v with_o thirst_n in_o the_o sight_n of_o water_n and_o a_o great_a grief_n to_o perish_v helpless_a in_o the_o presence_n of_o those_o upon_o who_o we_o rely_v for_o help_v when_o have_v power_n they_o want_v will_n to_o relieve_v we_o then_o when_o have_v will_v they_o want_v power_n it_o be_v all_o one_o to_o the_o people_n whether_o their_o guide_n be_v blind_a or_o always_o wink_v whether_o
