that_o the_o same_o be_v destroy_v and_o do_v away_o the_o inward_a peace_n and_o joy_n of_o the_o holy_a spirit_n in_o the_o soul_n may_v be_v feel_v to_o abound_v and_o thence_o power_n and_o life_n to_o follow_v he_o in_o all_o his_o commandment_n and_o so_o many_o come_v to_o be_v join_v and_o unite_v together_o in_o heart_n and_o spirit_n in_o this_o one_o life_n of_o righteousness_n who_o have_v long_o be_v wander_v in_o the_o several_a sect_n and_o by_o the_o inward_a unity_n come_v to_o be_v gather_v in_o one_o body_n from_o whence_o by_o degree_n they_o come_v to_o find_v themselves_o agree_v in_o the_o plain_a and_o simple_a doctrine_n of_o christ_n christian_n and_o as_o this_o inward_a power_n they_o long_v for_o and_o feel_v to_o give_v they_o victory_n over_o sin_n and_o bring_v the_o peace_n that_o follow_v thereon_o be_v that_o whereby_o they_o be_v bring_v unto_o that_o unity_n and_o community_n together_o so_o they_o come_v first_o thence_o to_o accord_v in_o the_o universal_a preach_v of_o this_o power_n to_o all_o and_o direct_v all_o unto_o it_o which_o be_v their_o first_o and_o chief_a principle_n and_o most_o agreeable_a to_o this_o universal_a love_n as_o i_o shall_v hereafter_o show_v and_o it_o be_v very_o observable_a that_o as_o those_o who_o gather_v and_o fellowship_n arise_v from_o this_o mere_a unity_n of_o notion_n and_o opinion_n do_v usual_o derive_v their_o name_n and_o designation_n from_o the_o first_o author_n inventor_n and_o fomenter_n of_o those_o opinion_n as_o of_o old_a the_o arian_n nestorian_n manichaean_n etc._n etc._n and_o of_o late_a the_o lutheran_n calvinist_n arminian_n socinian_o monite_n etc._n etc._n so_o those_o people_n who_o unity_n and_o fellowship_n do_v arise_v from_o their_o mutual_a sense_n of_o this_o power_n work_v in_o and_o upon_o their_o soul_n so_o that_o society_n derive_v not_o their_o name_n from_o any_o particular_a man_n and_o therefore_o be_v providential_o deliver_v from_o that_o great_a mark_n of_o a_o sect_n but_o as_o the_o ungodly_a will_v be_v always_o throw_v some_o name_n of_o reproach_n upon_o the_o child_n and_o servant_n of_o god_n it_o be_v observe_v that_o through_o the_o deep_a and_o inward_a operation_n of_o this_o power_n in_o they_o a_o dread_n take_v hold_v on_o they_o not_o only_o to_o the_o beget_n of_o god_n fear_n in_o their_o heart_n but_o even_o to_o the_o reach_a and_o instruct_v of_o their_o outward_a man_n hence_o the_o name_n of_o quaker_n or_o trembler_n have_v be_v cast_v upon_o they_o which_o serve_v to_o distinguish_v they_o from_o other_o though_o not_o assume_v by_o they_o yet_o as_o the_o christian_n of_o old_a albeit_o the_o name_n of_o christian_a be_v cast_v upon_o they_o by_o way_n of_o reproach_n glory_v in_o it_o as_o desire_v above_o all_o thing_n to_o be_v account_v the_o follower_n of_o christ_n so_o they_o also_o be_v glad_a that_o the_o world_n reproach_v they_o as_o to_o all_o true_a christian_n and_o member_n of_o the_o church_n now_o this_o doctrine_n great_o commend_v the_o love_n of_o god_n and_o establish_v the_o principle_n of_o universal_a love_n in_o the_o ministry_n to_o outward_a ordination_n and_o to_o a_o particular_a tribe_n of_o person_n the_o make_v humane_a part_n and_o art_n more_o necessary_a thereto_o than_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n so_o that_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n be_v not_o judge_v sufficient_a to_o make_v a_o man_n a_o minister_n or_o to_o privilege_v he_o to_o preach_v without_o those_o other_o artificial_a and_o ceremonial_a thing_n so_o i_o say_v on_o the_o other_o hand_n those_o people_n to_o the_o commend_v of_o the_o universal_a love_n of_o god_n to_o all_o but_o especial_o in_o the_o visible_a church_n who_o be_v ere_o the_o scripture_n be_v write_v and_o job_n be_v another_o beside_o socrates_n among_o the_o greek_n pythagoras_n among_o the_o latin_n and_o several_a other_o that_o may_v be_v name_v among_o the_o arabian_n indian_n and_o ethiopian_n and_o this_o doctrine_n do_v very_o much_o hold_v forth_o the_o universal_a love_n of_o god_n in_o the_o visible_a church_n in_o that_o it_o exclude_v none_o from_o minister_a his_o gift_n as_o he_o have_v it_o albeit_o a_o poor_a tradesman_n or_o mechanic_n man_n as_o be_v do_v among_o the_o far_o great_a part_n of_o the_o sect_n of_o christendom_n by_o the_o presumptuous_a usurpation_n of_o they_o five_o this_o people_n do_v great_o commend_v and_o hold_v forth_o the_o universal_a love_n of_o god_n to_o all_o in_o deny_v the_o use_n of_o outward_a carnal_a thing_n which_o perish_v in_o the_o use_n such_o as_o wash_v or_o sprinkle_v with_o water_n or_o eat_v of_o bread_n and_o wine_n to_o be_v the_o seal_n of_o god_n covenant_n with_o man_n or_o to_o be_v the_o mean_n or_o channel_n by_o which_o grace_n and_o spiritual_a refreshment_n be_v minister_v to_o the_o soul_n for_o thereby_o they_o confine_v not_o god_n love_n in_o the_o communicate_v of_o his_o gift_n and_o grace_n to_o the_o application_n or_o not_o use_v of_o elementary_a thing_n which_o may_v be_v as_o true_o as_o to_o the_o matter_n of_o they_o perform_v by_o the_o most_o wicked_a and_o great_a hypocrite_n of_o the_o world_n as_o by_o the_o most_o godly_a and_o sincere_a as_o do_v the_o great_a part_n of_o the_o sect_n among_o christian_n who_o make_v such_o a_o noise_n of_o the_o sacrament_n and_o ordinance_n and_o do_v so_o quarrel_v and_o jangle_n about_o their_o matter_n and_o manner_n of_o performance_n but_o do_v affirm_v and_o believe_v that_o increase_n of_o grace_n and_o refreshment_n in_o and_o by_o the_o life_n of_o christ_n be_v convey_v unto_o the_o soul_n of_o all_o those_o that_o be_v faithful_a as_o this_o seed_n receive_v a_o place_n and_o grow_v up_o in_o their_o heart_n without_o these_o outward_a ceremony_n this_o can_v be_v perform_v but_o by_o such_o as_o be_v sincere_a and_o godly_a indeed_o for_o such_o can_v only_o be_v true_o faithful_a and_o wait_v in_o that_o place_n where_o grace_n and_o refreshment_n strength_n and_o power_n wisdom_n and_o courage_n patience_n and_o all_o other_o good_a gift_n be_v receive_v six_o these_o people_n do_v much_o establish_v universal_a love_n in_o that_o they_o affirm_v persecution_n of_o man_n for_o the_o matter_n of_o their_o conscience_n to_o be_v unchristian_a and_o unlawful_a believe_v that_o as_o god_n can_v only_o inform_v and_o enlighten_v the_o conscience_n so_o it_o be_v contrary_a to_o the_o universal_a love_n of_o god_n for_o man_n to_o seek_v to_o force_v and_o restrain_v it_o as_o have_v hitherto_o be_v sufficient_o show_v last_o they_o do_v very_o true_o and_o observable_o establish_v universal_a love_n in_o that_o they_o preach_v love_n to_o enemy_n and_o the_o necessity_n of_o bear_v and_o suffer_v injury_n without_o revenge_n hold_v it_o unlawful_a for_o christian_n to_o fight_v or_o use_v carnal_a weapon_n even_o to_o resist_v such_o as_o oppose_v they_o and_o wrongful_o prejudice_v they_o as_o this_o be_v most_o agreeable_a to_o the_o doctrine_n and_o practice_n of_o christ_n so_o be_v it_o to_o the_o universal_a love_n of_o god_n who_o long-suffering-patience_n even_o towards_o the_o wicked_a stiffnecked_n and_o rebellious_a after_o many_o provocation_n do_v above_o all_o declare_v his_o love_n in_o which_o they_o can_v pretend_v to_o be_v follower_n of_o he_o who_o believe_v it_o lawful_a for_o they_o to_o revenge_v every_o injury_n to_o give_v blow_n for_o blow_n and_o knock_v for_o knock_n and_o so_o know_v not_o what_o it_o be_v patient_o to_o receive_v and_o suffer_v a_o injury_n if_o they_o have_v any_o opportunity_n of_o revenge_a themselves_o and_o so_o consequent_o can_v have_v universal_a love_n which_o necessary_o suppose_v and_o include_v love_n to_o enemy_n and_o he_o that_o will_v beat_v kill_v and_o every_o way_n he_o can_v destroy_v his_o enemy_n do_v but_o foolish_o contradict_v himself_o if_o he_o pretend_v to_o love_v he_o and_o those_o that_o do_v not_o preach_v and_o practise_v love_n to_o enemy_n but_o that_o which_o be_v quite_o contrary_a can_v just_o pretend_v either_o to_o the_o doctrine_n or_o practice_n of_o universal_a love_n wherefore_o i_o desire_v the_o reader_n may_v make_v application_n hereof_o as_o to_o the_o several_a sect_n of_o christian_n and_o examine_v who_o principle_n and_o practice_n do_v most_o agree_v herewith_o and_o serious_o consider_v whether_o there_o be_v any_o entire_a unite_a body_n of_o christian_n except_o these_o here_o mention_v who_o do_v unanimous_o hold_v forth_o so_o many_o doctrine_n so_o direct_o establish_v and_o agree_v to_o true_a universal_a love_n write_v in_o aberdeen_n prison_n the_o first_o month_n 1677._o the_o end_n end_n which_o external_a agreement_n as_o well_o in_o doctrine_n as_o in_o the_o practice_n necessary_o follow_v thereupon_o become_v as_o one_o external_n
