because_o they_o be_v indifferent_a for_o since_o indifferent_a thing_n be_v not_o capable_a by_o any_o virtue_n of_o their_o own_o to_o propitiate_v the_o deity_n no_o human_a power_n or_o authority_n can_v confer_v on_o they_o so_o much_o dignity_n and_o excellency_n as_o to_o enable_v they_o to_o do_v it_o in_o the_o common_a affair_n of_o life_n that_o use_v of_o indifferent_a thing_n which_o god_n have_v not_o forbid_v be_v free_a and_o lawful_a and_o therefore_o in_o those_o thing_n human_a authority_n have_v place_n but_o it_o be_v not_o so_o in_o matter_n of_o religion_n thing_n indifferent_a be_v not_o otherwise_o lawful_a in_o the_o worship_n of_o god_n than_o as_o they_o be_v institute_v by_o god_n himself_o and_o as_o he_o by_o some_o positive_a command_n have_v ordain_v they_o to_o be_v make_v a_o part_n of_o that_o worship_n which_o he_o will_v vouchsafe_v to_o accept_v of_o at_o the_o hand_n of_o poor_a sinful_a man_n nor_o when_o a_o incense_a deity_n shall_v ask_v we_o who_o have_v require_v these_o or_o such_o like_a thing_n at_o our_o hand_n will_v it_o be_v enough_o to_o answer_v he_o that_o the_o magistrate_n command_v they_o if_o civil_a jurisdiction_n extend_v thus_o far_o what_o may_v not_o lawful_o be_v introduce_v into_o religion_n what_o hodgepodge_n of_o ceremony_n what_o superstitious_a invention_n build_v upon_o the_o magistrate_n authority_n may_v not_o against_o conscience_n be_v impose_v upon_o the_o worshipper_n of_o god_n for_o the_o great_a part_n of_o these_o ceremony_n and_o superstion_n consist_v in_o the_o religious_a use_n of_o such_o thing_n as_o be_v in_o their_o own_o nature_n indifferent_a nor_o be_v they_o sinful_a upon_o any_o other_o account_n than_o because_o god_n be_v not_o the_o author_n of_o they_o the_o sprinkle_n of_o water_n and_o the_o use_n of_o bread_n and_o wine_n be_v both_o in_o their_o own_o nature_n and_o in_o the_o ordinary_a occasion_n of_o life_n altogether_o indifferent_a will_v any_o man_n therefore_o say_v that_o these_o thing_n can_v have_v be_v introduce_v into_o religion_n and_o make_v a_o part_n of_o divine_a worship_n if_o not_o by_o divine_a institution_n if_o any_o human_a authority_n or_o civil_a power_n can_v have_v do_v this_o why_o may_v it_o not_o also_o enjoin_v the_o eat_n of_o fish_n and_o drink_v of_o ale_n in_o the_o holy_a banquet_n as_o a_o part_n of_o divine_a worship_n why_o not_o the_o sprinkle_n of_o the_o blood_n of_o beast_n in_o church_n and_o expiation_n by_o water_n or_o fire_n and_o abundance_n more_o of_o this_o kind_n but_o these_o thing_n how_o indifferent_a soever_o they_o be_v in_o common_a use_n when_o they_o come_v to_o be_v annex_v unto_o divine_a worship_n without_o divine_a authority_n they_o be_v as_o abominable_a to_o god_n as_o the_o sacrifice_n of_o a_o dog._n and_o why_o a_o dog_n so_o abominable_a what_o difference_n be_v there_o between_o a_o dog_n and_o a_o goat_n in_o respect_n of_o the_o divine_a nature_n equal_o and_o infinite_o distant_a from_o all_o affinity_n with_o matter_n unless_o it_o be_v that_o god_n require_v the_o use_n of_o the_o one_o in_o his_o worship_n and_o not_o of_o the_o other_o we_o see_v therefore_o that_o indifferent_a thing_n how_o much_o soever_o they_o be_v under_o the_o power_n of_o the_o civil_a magistrate_n yet_o can_v upon_o that_o pretence_n be_v introduce_v into_o religion_n and_o impose_v upon_o religious_a assembly_n because_o in_o the_o worship_n of_o god_n they_o whole_o cease_v to_o be_v indifferent_a he_o that_o worship_v god_n do_v it_o with_o design_n to_o please_v he_o and_o procure_v his_o favour_n but_o that_o can_v be_v do_v by_o he_o who_o upon_o the_o command_n of_o another_o offers_z unto_o god_n that_o which_o he_o know_v will_v be_v displease_v to_o he_o because_o not_o command_v by_o himself_o this_o be_v not_o to_o please_v god_n or_o appease_v his_o wrath_n but_o willing_o and_o know_o to_o provoke_v he_o by_o a_o manifest_a contempt_n which_o be_v a_o thing_n absolute_o repugnant_a to_o the_o nature_n and_o end_n of_o worship_n but_o it_o will_v here_o be_v ask_v if_o nothing_o belong_v to_o divine_a worship_n be_v leave_v to_o human_a discretion_n how_o be_v it_o then_o that_o church_n themselves_o have_v the_o power_n of_o order_v any_o thing_n about_o the_o time_n and_o place_n of_o worship_n
