faith_n and_o as_o necessary_a to_o salvation_n whatever_o proposition_n be_v impose_v on_o he_o by_o his_o superior_n he_o well_o know_v we_o have_v no_o such_o custom_n in_o the_o church_n of_o england_n we_o call_v no_o man_n on_o earth_n our_o master_n or_o lawgiver_n in_o matter_n of_o faith_n he_o that_o advance_v his_o own_o reason_n which_o be_v often_o against_o and_o then_o it_o must_v be_v above_o scripture_n he_o be_v in_o as_o bad_a a_o condition_n as_o the_o most_o bigoted_a papist_n for_o he_o make_v himself_o and_o all_o his_o faculty_n and_o reason_n as_o infallible_a as_o they_o believe_v the_o pope_n to_o be_v chap._n 5._o the_o content_n of_o this_o chapter_n be_v thus_o express_v why_o faith_n under_o the_o gospel_n make_v a_o great_a figure_n than_o under_o the_o law_n this_o state_n of_o the_o question_n he_o present_o alter_v and_o make_v it_o his_o business_n to_o show_v that_o when_o our_o saviour_n first_o claim_v the_o public_a profession_n of_o which_o be_v ready_o grant_v viz._n that_o though_o it_o be_v both_o difficult_a and_o dangerous_a yet_o it_o be_v necessary_a that_o the_o disciple_n of_o christ_n shall_v public_o own_o faith_n in_o he_o but_o then_o the_o inference_n which_o he_o make_v be_v not_o conclusive_a p._n 23._o col_fw-fr 1._o viz._n now_o that_o our_o education_n make_v it_o as_o difficult_a and_o our_o law_n as_o be_v now_o abate_v yet_o there_o be_v a_o permament_n necessity_n from_o the_o influence_n which_o faith_n always_o have_v on_o the_o action_n of_o believer_n because_o as_o he_o say_v the_o christian_n be_v always_o a_o soldier_n and_o must_v fight_v against_o all_o kind_n of_o enemy_n to_o christ_n kingdom_n not_o only_a flesh_n and_o blood_n but_o spiritual_a wickedness_n and_o whatever_o will_v not_o have_v the_o lord_n rule_v over_o they_o he_o must_v follow_v the_o captain_n of_o his_o salvation_n who_o be_v make_v perfect_a by_o suffering_n and_o when_o tempt_v he_o must_v walk_v in_o the_o step_n of_o his_o father_n abraham_n sacrifice_v his_o lust_n though_o no_o less_o dear_a than_o be_v his_o isaac_n so_o that_o faith_n must_v be_v habitual_o the_o same_o and_o therefore_o need_v the_o same_o encouragement_n now_o as_o it_o do_v when_o it_o be_v first_o require_v and_o i_o see_v no_o great_a need_n of_o that_o which_o he_o so_o careful_o require_v that_o we_o must_v distinguish_v the_o time_n for_o we_o be_v still_o under_o those_o late_a time_n which_o st._n paul_n call_v perilous_a wherein_o we_o shall_v meet_v with_o divers_a trial_n and_o temptation_n and_o therefore_o need_v the_o whole_a armour_n of_o god_n etc._n etc._n and_o we_o still_o need_v the_o same_o degree_n of_o faith_n to_o overcome_v the_o world_n i._n e._n the_o lust_n and_o yet_o have_v no_o save_a faith_n and_o a_o heathen_a may_v have_v a_o natural_a faith_n and_o moral_a virtue_n and_o yet_o come_v short_a of_o salvation_n he_o add_v in_o the_o conclusion_n of_o
