the_o first_o decade_n and_o in_o the_o third_o decade_n where_o i_o entreat_v of_o the_o saint_n affliction_n in_o the_o ten_o sermon_n of_o the_o same_o decade_n and_o also_o in_o the_o four_o decade_n where_o i_o speak_v of_o the_o gospel_n the_o priest_n and_o monk_n do_v teach_v that_o repentance_n of_o the_o sin_n commit_v and_o faith_n in_o christ_n be_v not_o sufficient_a for_o the_o purge_n of_o sin_n without_o the_o satisfaction_n of_o our_o own_o work_v and_o merit_v which_o they_o make_v to_o be_v wear_v of_o sackcloth_n fast_n tear_n prayer_n alm_n deed_n offering_n sundry_a affliction_n of_o the_o body_n pilgrimage_n and_o many_o other_o odd_a knack_n like_v unto_o these_o for_o they_o affirm_v that_o by_o these_o mean_n peccati_fw-la the_o penalty_n due_a to_o sin_n the_o guilt_n whereof_o they_o say_v be_v only_o pardon_v be_v wash_v away_o as_o with_o a_o shower_n of_o water_n pour_v down_o upon_o it_o but_o we_o already_o have_v teach_v out_o of_o the_o canonical_a scripture_n that_o god_n do_v not_o only_o forgive_v free_o the_o guilt_n but_o also_o the_o penalty_n of_o our_o sin_n we_o have_v already_o teach_v that_o man_n be_v not_o justify_v by_o their_o own_o work_n and_o merit_n but_o by_o the_o mere_a grace_n of_o god_n through_o the_o faith_n of_o christ_n jesus_n for_o otherwise_o he_o shall_v in_o vain_a have_v take_v our_o flesh_n upon_o he_o and_o in_o vain_a shall_v christ_n have_v qve_v himself_o unto_o the_o most_o bitter_a and_o reproachful_a death_n of_o the_o cross_n now_o we_o add_v if_o we_o be_v not_o justify_v by_o work_n then_o do_v we_o not_o with_o our_o work_v make_v satisfaction_n for_o our_o sin_n for_o in_o effect_n although_o i_o acknowledge_v that_o there_o be_v a_o difference_n and_o do_v not_o confound_v they_o justification_n and_o satisfaction_n come_v both_o to_o one_o end_n by_o the_o justification_n of_o christ_n we_o be_v absolve_v by_o the_o satisfaction_n of_o christ_n or_o rather_o for_o his_o satisfaction_n sake_n we_o be_v also_o absolve_v christ_n be_v our_o righteousness_n &_o therefore_o also_o our_o satisfaction_n the_o price_n of_o our_o redemption_n be_v in_o christ_n not_o in_o ourselves_o if_o we_o make_v satisfaction_n for_o ourselves_o then_o be_v the_o price_n of_o our_o redemption_n in_o ourselves_o and_o therefore_o be_v we_o both_o christ_n &_o saviour_n unto_o ourselves_o which_o thing_n do_v flat_o make_v christ_n of_o none_o effect_n and_o therefore_o be_v it_o extreme_a blasphemy_n moses_n in_o his_o law_n do_v with_o little_a business_n or_o none_o dissolve_v all_o the_o argument_n for_o satisfaction_n wrought_v by_o our_o work_n for_o where_o he_o describe_v the_o manner_n of_o cleanse_v sin_n he_o place_v no_o jot_n thereof_o in_o the_o their_o unrighteousness_n and_o sin_n &_o will_v no_o more_o remember_v their_o iniquity_n now_o where_o such_o a_o remission_n be_v there_o be_v no_o oblation_n or_o satisfaction_n for_o sin_n and_o we_o in_o the_o creed_n very_o do_v believe_v the_o forgiveness_n of_o sin_n but_o if_o the_o debtor_n make_v satisfaction_n to_o the_o creditor_n than_o what_o i_o pray_v you_o do_v the_o creditor_n forgive_v he_o therefore_o this_o article_n of_o our_o faith_n the_o principal_a promise_n and_o preach_a of_o the_o new_a testament_n be_v utter_o subvert_v if_o we_o admit_v the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o satisfaction_n of_o our_o work_v for_o sin_n we_o do_v acknowledge_v that_o tear_n fast_n wear_v of_o sackcloth_n alm_n 〈◊〉_d deed_n and_o the_o other_o work_v of_o piety_n humiliation_n and_o he_o do_v to_o our_o parent_n adam_n and_o euah_n and_o to_o king_n david_n after_o his_o adultery_n and_o murder_n of_o urias_n but_o i_o have_v already_o show_v you_o that_o those_o affliction_n be_v not_o satisfaction_n for_o the_o sin_n which_o god_n have_v pardon_v but_o exercise_n of_o god_n discipline_n and_o humiliation_n which_o do_v by_o those_o mean_n keep_v his_o sernaunt_n in_o their_o dutiful_a obedience_n &_o do_v declare_v to_o all_o man_n how_o hearty_o he_o hate_v sin_n although_o he_o do_v free_o forgive_v and_o pardon_v they_o therefore_o lest_o we_o because_o of_o that_o free_a forgiveness_n shall_v be_v the_o more_o incline_v and_o prove_v to_o sin_n he_o promise_v they_o who_o he_o make_v to_o be_v example_n for_o we_o to_o take_v heed_n by_o neither_o do_v
