book_n thereof_o depend_v on_o the_o certainty_n of_o tradition_n and_o indeed_o it_o be_v impious_a to_o affirm_v that_o we_o have_v not_o a_o sufficient_o sure_a ground_n of_o that_o knowledge_n of_o good_a and_o evil_n upon_o which_o our_o eternal_a happi_n nes_z be_v to_o be_v acquire_v or_o misery_n sustain_v or_o that_o god_n have_v not_o leave_v a_o undoubtable_a evidence_n of_o those_o truth_n whereby_o we_o be_v to_o direct_v our_o life_n to_o that_o end_n for_o which_o he_o have_v create_v we_o but_o this_o can_v be_v assign_v no_o other_o at_o least_o to_o most_o man_n than_o tradition_n therefore_o it_o be_v the_o interest_n of_o all_o christian_n as_o well_o those_o who_o submit_v themselves_o only_o to_o the_o scripture_n as_o those_o who_o submit_v also_o to_o the_o understand_v in_o two_o sense_n 1._o either_o in_o this_o sense_n search_v and_o try_v my_o or_o our_o doctrine_n by_o the_o scripture_n for_o you_o will_v sure_o find_v my_o doctrine_n agree_v thereto_o if_o you_o search_v aright_o and_o as_o you_o ought_v and_o in_o this_o sense_n the_o trial_n by_o the_o scripture_n of_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o church_n nay_o of_o the_o apostle_n st._n paul_n by_o the_o berean_o nay_o of_o christ_n himself_o whether_o the_o old_a testament_n as_o he_o urge_v testify_v of_o he_o be_v both_o allow_v and_o recommend_v for_o since_o there_o be_v no_o difference_n of_o the_o teach_n of_o christ_n or_o of_o s._n paul_n or_o of_o the_o church_n from_o the_o teach_n of_o the_o scripture_n the_o one_o will_v never_o fear_v but_o free_o appeal_v to_o a_o trial_n by_o the_o other_o if_o it_o be_v right_o make_v or_o 2_o it_o may_v be_v understand_v in_o this_o sense_n search_v and_o try_v my_o doctrine_n by_o the_o scripture_n and_o if_o you_o in_o your_o search_n do_v not_o perceive_v it_o agreeable_a unto_o they_o i_o declare_v that_o you_o have_v no_o reason_n to_o believe_v or_o that_o you_o be_v excusable_a in_o reject_v my_o liberty_n to_o disbelieve_v the_o apostle_n or_o the_o church_n doctrine_n till_o he_o be_v sure_o first_o that_o he_o have_v search_v aright_o i_o say_v our_o saviour_n or_o the_o scripture_n can_v recommend_v search_v in_o such_o a_o sense_n or_o upon_o such_o condition_n 1._o because_o such_o a_o searcher_n or_o tryer_n by_o the_o scripture_n there_o may_v be_v as_o be_v prejudice_v by_o passion_n or_o interest_n ormis-education_n or_o as_o search_v negligent_o and_o cold_o or_o as_o have_v not_o a_o sufficient_a capacity_n to_o understand_v the_o scripture_n he_o search_v when_o our_o own_o judgement_n and_o not_o trust_v or_o rely_v on_o any_o other_o man_n we_o present_o represent_v the_o same_o not-fundamental_a truth_n as_o of_o great_a consequence_n and_o say_v the_o blind_a mean_v the_o church_n which_o may_v perhaps_o err_v in_o such_o thing_n lead_v the_o blind_a both_o may_v fall_v into_o the_o ditch_n and_o that_o that_o ditch_n also_o be_v damnation_n i_o can_v conceive_v therefore_o how_o any_o man_n can_v assure_v himself_o in_o any_o thing_n that_o be_v not_o of_o fact_n or_o sense_n but_o that_o be_v only_o a_o deduction_n 28._o from_o scripture_n and_o tradition_n contrary_a to_o the_o judgement_n i_o say_v not_o of_o his_o private_a pastor_n but_o of_o the_o supreme_a court_n of_o the_o present_a church_n that_o he_o be_v infallible_o jam._n 3._o 17._o and_o that_o trial_n be_v as_o their_o doctrine_n tend_v more_o unto_o holiness_n of_o life_n and_o as_o this_o fruit_n be_v more_o or_o less_o produce_v by_o they_o for_o though_o this_o holiness_n be_v by_o all_o doctrine_n equal_o pretend_v yet_o be_v it_o not_o by_o all_o doctrine_n equal_o advance_v for_o many_o ill_a consequence_n there_o be_v follow_v some_o doctrine_n more_o than_o other_o which_o though_o they_o be_v disavow_v and_o shake_v off_o in_o the_o exposition_n of_o the_o teacher_n yet_o do_v they_o still_o adhere_v to_o they_o in_o the_o people_n practice_n as_o there_o be_v other_o doctrine_n which_o whereas_o perhaps_o as_o some_o misunderstand_a they_o they_o seem_v pernicious_a yet_o we_o find_v the_o follower_n thereof_o excel_v in_o holiness_n where_o the_o doctrine_n seem_v to_o commend_v and_o induce_v ignorance_n very_o studious_a and_o know_a where_o the_o doctrine_n seem_v to_o nourish_v boast_v presumption_n and_o pride_n very_o humble_a and_o contrite_a in_o spirit_n who_o when_o we_o find_v and_o that_o frequent_o walk_v just_a contrary_n to_o what_o we_o suppose_v their_o doctrine_n we_o be_v to_o imagine_v their_o doctrine_n not_o to_o be_v what_o we_o suppose_v the_o practice_n of_o the_o church_n be_v the_o best_a expounder_n general_o of_o her_o opinion_n but_o be_v it_o otherwise_o yet_o i_o conceive_v far_o better_o it_o be_v to_o have_v faulty_a doctrine_n misunderstand_a so_o as_o to_o produce_v holiness_n than_o even_o those_o that_o be_v good_a misunderstand_a so_o as_o to_o produce_v profaneness_n and_o impiety_n again_o there_o be_v few_o divine_a truth_n acknowledge_v in_o one_o church_n perhaps_o than_o in_o another_o and_o so_o obedience_n less_o perfect_a and_o in_o a_o church_n where_o there_o be_v no_o false_a doctrine_n affirmative_o and_o positive_o teach_v yet_o perhaps_o many_o true_a one_o areo_fw-la mit_v or_o also_o reject_v such_o as_o be_v exceed_o beneficial_a to_o produce_v sanctity_n now_o 1._o first_o this_o be_v certain_a that_o no_o lie_n abound_v so_o much_o to_o the_o produce_v of_o holiness_n as_o truth_n do_v and_o the_o more_o true_a and_o holiness_n orthodox_n any_o church_n be_v and_o the_o more_o truth_n of_o god_n be_v embrace_v by_o she_o and_o none_o of_o his_o counsel_n reject_v the_o more_o purity_n be_v in_o she_o for_o the_o whole_a design_n of_o our_o saviour_n come_v into_o the_o world_n of_o the_o mould_v of_o all_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o law_n and_o of_o the_o gospel_n these_o and_o not_o other_o be_v the_o advance_n by_o they_o her_o sanctification_n so_o that_o i_o may_v say_v have_v there_o be_v a_o error_n that_o can_v more_o have_v advance_v it_o than_o these_o truth_n truth_n have_v be_v error_n and_o that_o error_n have_v be_v make_v truth_n where_o then_o more_o of_o these_o divine_a rule_n be_v know_v and_o observe_v there_o will_v flourish_v more_o holiness_n and_o therefore_o we_o may_v reflect_v where_o more_o holiness_n be_v find_v there_o probable_o be_v these_o better_o know_v and_o teach_v because_o where_o they_o be_v most_o teach_v there_o in_o all_o likelihood_n also_o they_o be_v most_o observe_v therefore_o since_o all_o acknowledge_v the_o excellent_a sanctity_n and_o purity_n of_o the_o primitive_a time_n they_o must_v likewise_o grant_v that_o church_n more_o orthodox_n which_o more_o close_o retain_v their_o doctrine_n their_o discipline_n etc._n etc._n and_o it_o be_v a_o astonishment_n to_o i_o to_o see_v that_o those_o who_o so_o much_o admire_v the_o cause_v it_o for_o that_o where_o all_o other_o doctrine_n be_v put_v and_o these_o which_o use_v ancient_o be_v now_o cast_v aside_o in_o some_o church_n abrogate_a there_o such_o sanctity_n grow_v
