in_o the_o carcke_n and_o care_n of_o this_o world_n and_o will_v be_v so_o prevent_v of_o thing_n by_o their_o cunning_a and_o deceit_n that_o they_o will_v taste_v of_o nothing_o that_o be_v heavenly_a and_o other_o some_o will_v be_v so_o brutish_a as_o that_o it_o be_v impossible_a for_o a_o man_n to_o enter_v into_o their_o mind_n to_o show_v they_o any_o doctrine_n and_o therefore_o when_o we_o see_v all_o this_o gear_n let_v we_o make_v this_o reckon_n that_o although_o the_o gospel_n be_v preach_v and_o that_o the_o voice_n of_o god_n resound_v and_o ring_v throughout_o the_o world_n yet_o will_v a_o great_a number_n of_o people_n be_v no_o changelinge_n out_o continue_v as_o they_o be_v so_o that_o all_o doctrine_n shall_v lie_v dead_a to_o they_o as_o it_o be_v and_o thus_o much_o for_o this_o point_n we_o see_v also_o that_o the_o beléeve_a number_n be_v very_o small_a and_o therefore_o we_o be_v to_o beware_v how_o we_o become_v wanton_a but_o let_v we_o rather_o understande_v that_o whatsoever_o god_n have_v speak_v he_o will_v perform_v and_o in_o the_o mean_a time_n we_o shall_v be_v the_o carefull_a to_o shroud_v ourselves_o under_o his_o wing_n by_o reason_n that_o the_o world_n at_o this_o day_n be_v full_a of_o wickedness_n and_o rebellion_n in_o very_a deed_n we_o ought_v to_o stand_v in_o fear_n and_o walk_v more_o careful_o for_o if_o all_o man_n be_v well_o give_v to_o serve_v god_n we_o shall_v have_v good_a example_n on_o every_o side_n which_o shall_v sufficient_o stir_v we_o up_o very_o valiant_o for_o our_o part_n to_o to_o be_v find_v among_o they_o but_o dissoluteness_n and_o wantonness_n so_o that_o a_o man_n will_v think_v that_o the_o world_n have_v conspire_v to_o estrange_v we_o quite_o and_o clean_o from_o god_n then_o have_v we_o most_o need_v to_o walk_v in_o tremble_a and_o in_o fear_n for_o if_o god_n miraculous_o preserve_v we_o not_o what_o will_v become_v of_o it_o and_o therefore_o let_v all_o such_o as_o mean_a to_o stand_v to_o the_o gospel_n prepare_v themselves_o to_o withstand_v the_o like_a occasion_n although_o we_o see_v that_o other_o man_n do_v not_o their_o duty_n as_o they_o ought_v yet_o let_v we_o take_v heed_n that_o we_o turn_v not_o aside_o but_o let_v we_o when_o we_o see_v the_o whole_a world_n tread_v the_o word_n of_o god_n under_o foot_n stick_v to_o it_o and_o not_o that_o only_a but_o let_v we_o so_o much_o the_o more_o dutiful_o submit_v ourselves_o unto_o our_o god_n whenas_o we_o see_v that_o offence_n and_o evil_a example_n may_v give_v we_o occasion_n very_a few_o for_o the_o reformation_n and_o better_n of_o their_o life_n forsake_v themselves_o and_o consecrate_v they_o whole_o unto_o god_n we_o shall_v see_v i_o say_v very_o few_o such_o but_o he_o set_v down_o by_o the_o way_n the_o cause_n which_o at_o this_o present_a we_o can_v handle_v to_o wit_n that_o in_o it_o we_o shall_v also_o note_v that_o faith_n be_v a_o especial_a gift_n of_o god_n and_o that_o to_o have_v our_o ear_n beat_v with_o the_o doctrine_n be_v not_o all_o that_o be_v require_v but_o god_n must_v also_o touch_v we_o and_o so_o work_v in_o we_o by_o his_o secret_a power_n as_o that_o we_o may_v be_v draw_v to_o he_o and_o be_v edify_v by_o the_o preach_v which_o be_v deliver_v unto_o us._n howbeit_o because_o we_o can_v go_v forward_o with_o it_o at_o this_o present_a therefore_o we_o will_v reserve_v it_o untyll_o another_o time_n now_o let_v we_o fall_v down_o before_o the_o majesty_n of_o our_o good_a god_n and_o acknowledge_v our_o offence_n beseech_v until_o such_o time_n as_o all_o our_o corruption_n vice_n and_o wicked_a lust_n be_v abolish_v and_o we_o be_v deliver_v of_o they_o by_o his_o holy_a spirit_n look_v after_o nothing_o else_o but_o the_o glorify_v of_o our_o god_n and_o because_o he_o will_v have_v all_o praise_n render_v unto_o he_o in_o the_o person_n and_o mediation_n of_o his_o only_a son_n let_v we_o beseech_v he_o that_o we_o may_v all_o most_o humble_o embrace_v this_o redeemer_n which_o be_v offer_v we_o and_o in_o the_o mean_a while_n be_v so_o mortify_v as_o that_o we_o may_v be_v exalt_v to_o that_o majesty_n it_o may_v be_v say_v that_o the_o death_n and_o passion_n of_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n shall_v be_v unprofitable_a now_o this_o be_v a_o blasphemy_n not_o to_o be_v bear_v to_o think_v that_o the_o son_n of_o god_n come_v down_o into_o the_o world_n to_o abide_v so_o cruel_a a_o death_n and_o to_o have_v the_o judgement_n of_o god_n fall_v so_o on_o his_o head_n as_o that_o he_o bear_v the_o punishment_n for_o our_o sin_n and_o be_v take_v to_o be_v the_o great_a malefactor_n in_o the_o world_n &_o yet_o all_o this_o not_o to_o profit_v his_o faithful_a servant_n any_o thing_n at_o all_o it_o may_v well_o enough_o be_v say_v that_o this_o be_v as_o a_o man_n will_v say_v a_o very_a jest_n wherefore_o the_o prophet_n bring_v we_o back_o to_o this_o consideration_n that_o we_o shall_v well_o understand_v for_o what_o end_n &_o purpose_v our_o lord_n jesus_n be_v thus_o scourge_v &_o beat_v and_o this_o come_v not_o by_o fortune_n as_o have_v be_v before_o declare_v nether_a must_v we_o look_v only_o unto_o that_o which_o man_n do_v and_o to_o those_o which_o unjust_o slay_v he_o but_o we_o must_v lift_v up_o the_o eye_n of_o our_o faith_n unto_o the_o counsel_n of_o in_o our_o sin_n for_o the_o more_o that_o god_n show_v himself_o lyberal_a in_o the_o person_n of_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n so_o much_o the_o more_o ought_v we_o to_o feel_v what_o a_o gréevous_a thing_n it_o be_v for_o we_o to_o become_v his_o enemy_n and_o fight_v against_o his_o justice_n and_o cause_v he_o to_o set_v himself_o against_o we_o for_o the_o grace_n which_o god_n show_v we_o in_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n aught_o to_o draw_v we_o continual_o to_o repentance_n now_o the_o papist_n at_o this_o day_n go_v about_o false_o to_o accuse_v we_o of_o the_o doctrine_n which_o we_o preach_v which_o be_v this_o that_o we_o must_v be_v save_v by_o the_o free_a mercy_n of_o god_n have_v our_o whole_a recourse_n unto_o jesus_n christ_n because_o we_o know_v that_o therein_o we_o have_v all_o our_o perfection_n of_o rightuousnes_n now_o forsooth_o sir_n say_v they_o you_o have_v make_v a_o great_a speak_v for_o than_o every_o man_n may_v live_v as_o he_o lust_n and_o they_o need_v never_o care_v any_o more_o for_o the_o offend_n of_o god_n indeed_o these_o dog_n may_v bark_v thus_o because_o they_o never_o know_v what_o it_o be_v to_o taste_v of_o the_o forgiveness_n of_o sin_n for_o these_o hypocrite_n make_v a_o scorn_n at_o god_n and_o at_o all_o religion_n and_o have_v never_o learned_a what_o it_o be_v to_o transgress_v the_o law_n of_o god_n and_o we_o also_o see_v how_o jolly_o they_o think_v themselves_o discharge_v if_o they_o have_v once_o song_n a_o mass_n bleat_v and_o mask_v and_o they_o think_v that_o god_n be_v as_o well_o please_v with_o this_o as_o a_o young_a child_n be_v please_v with_o a_o pudding_n thus_o we_o see_v how_o these_o skorner_n of_o god_n can_v blaspheme_v the_o gospel_n but_o when_o we_o have_v come_v once_o to_o the_o acknowledgement_n of_o our_o sin_n and_o know_v to_o what_o end_n the_o inestimable_a grace_n of_o god_n be_v preach_v unto_o we_o without_o doubt_n we_o shall_v be_v touch_v with_o repentance_n and_o be_v mortal_o wound_v with_o the_o horror_n of_o anguish_n and_o pain_n when_o we_o see_v god_n to_o be_v our_o enemy_n because_o we_o have_v provoke_v he_o to_o wrath_n and_o this_o be_v here_o the_o meaning_n of_o the_o prophet_n that_o jesus_n christ_n have_v sustain_v the_o wonds_o which_o be_v due_a to_o us._n wherein_o he_o show_v that_o we_o can_v never_o lively_o feel_v what_o good_a the_o death_n and_o passion_n of_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n have_v do_v we_o except_o we_o be_v inward_o thorough_o touch_v with_o the_o offend_n of_o our_o god_n whereby_o we_o have_v make_v he_o to_o become_v as_o our_o judge_n &_o enemy_n until_o such_o time_n as_o we_o be_v reconcile_v unto_o he_o by_o his_o mere_a goodness_n and_o mercy_n now_o this_o be_v sufficient_o declare_v to_o we_o in_o the_o holy_a scripture_n but_o herein_o rest_v the_o whole_a matter_n that_o we_o apply_v our_o wit_n and_o study_n thereto_o 11.28_o math._n 11.28_o nevertheless_o be_v as_o be_v may_v we_o see_v that_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n call_v none_o but_o such_o as_o do_v labour_n and_o be_v heavy_a lade_v by_o this_o he_o exclude_v all_o such_o as_o sleep_v in_o their_o iniquity_n and_o flatter_v themselves_o in_o they_o or_o else_o which_o give_v themselves_o to_o all_o lycenciousnesse_n without_o any_o fear_n of_o god_n and_o therefore_o they_o which_o be_v thus_o give_v over_o to_o all_o wickedness_n can_v possible_o come_v near_o unto_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n for_o who_o shall_v give_v we_o a_o entrance_n unto_o he_o but_o the_o voice_n which_o call_v we_o even_o so_o fare_v it_o with_o they_o who_o be_v so_o proud_a and_o presumptiouslye_o blind_a as_o that_o they_o make_v themselves_o believe_v that_o they_o be_v righteous_a through_o their_o own_o desert_n and_o sure_o he_o shut_v the_o gate_n against_o all_o such_o kind_n of_o people_n so_o that_o they_o can_v have_v no_o hope_n that_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n bring_v they_o any_o comfort_n or_o solace_n and_o why_o so_o forsooth_o because_o he_o thus_o say_v come_v unto_o i_o who_o be_v they_o all_o the_o world_n indeed_o this_o be_v true_a that_o he_o call_v all_o the_o world_n howbeit_o he_o make_v a_o distinction_n of_o it_o for_o thus_o he_o saithe_v all_o you_o that_o labour_n and_o be_v heavy_a load_v for_o after_o he_o have_v call_v all_o such_o as_o have_v need_n of_o his_o help_n he_o show_v that_o none_o can_v be_v partaker_n thereof_o but_o such_o as_o do_v labour_n and_o be_v heavy_a load_v and_o therefore_o when_o we_o shall_v feel_v our_o burden_n and_o so_o groan_n under_o it_o as_o that_o we_o be_v able_a to_o bear_v no_o more_o see_v what_o a_o way_n
before_o the_o majesty_n of_o our_o good_a god_n and_o acknowledge_v our_o offence_n beseech_v he_o to_o make_v we_o more_o and_o more_o feel_v they_o that_o it_o may_v be_v so_o to_o our_o humble_v as_o that_o we_o may_v daily_o fight_v against_o they_o and_o be_v spoil_v of_o all_o together_o and_o that_o we_o may_v seek_v to_o be_v clad_v with_o his_o righteousness_n and_o enrich_v with_o the_o gift_n of_o his_o holy_a spirit_n to_o the_o end_n we_o may_v appear_v pure_a and_o innocent_a before_o he_o and_o forsomuch_o as_o we_o have_v need_n to_o be_v daily_o reconcile_v unto_o he_o by_o mean_a of_o the_o mediator_n that_o it_o will_v please_v he_o to_o grant_v we_o the_o grace_n to_o pray_v unto_o he_o with_o a_o sure_a hope_n and_o trust_v so_o that_o we_o stay_v ourselves_o on_o he_o may_v by_o true_a faith_n and_o power_n embrace_v the_o promise_n which_o he_o have_v make_v we_o â—8_o mat._n 11._o â—8_o when_o as_o he_o say_v come_v unto_o i_o all_o you_o that_o labour_n and_o be_v heavy_a lade_v and_o i_o will_v ease_v and_o refresh_v you_o so_o that_o we_o may_v feel_v that_o the_o office_n of_o the_o mediator_n which_o be_v give_v he_o be_v not_o in_o vain_a and_o of_o no_o effect_n but_o that_o by_o his_o mean_n we_o may_v at_o this_o day_n be_v hear_v and_o our_o petition_n and_o supplication_n so_o dedicate_v and_o consecrate_v unto_o he_o as_o that_o god_n will_v receive_v and_o allow_v they_o let_v we_o therefore_o beseech_v he_o that_o he_o will_v not_o show_v this_o favour_n to_o we_o alone_o but_o also_o unto_o all_o people_n and_o which_o come_v from_o himself_o as_o indeed_o it_o do_v moreover_o to_o the_o end_n we_o shall_v bear_v great_a reverence_n unto_o the_o gospel_n it_o be_v not_o say_v only_o that_o jesus_n christ_n deliver_v it_o but_o that_o it_o be_v also_o do_v by_o the_o holy_a ghost_n for_o as_o jesus_n christ_n be_v the_o very_a natural_a son_n of_o god_n even_o so_o likewise_o be_v he_o man_n and_o have_v take_v upon_o he_o our_o flesh_n and_o nature_n now_o under_o this_o shadow_n as_o no_o doubt_n of_o it_o the_o world_n be_v wicked_a a_o man_n may_v under_o a_o colour_n take_v occasion_n to_o contemn_v this_o doctrine_n or_o else_o not_o make_v so_o great_a a_o account_n of_o it_o here_o than_o we_o see_v that_o saint_n luke_n say_v that_o the_o charge_n which_o be_v give_v unto_o the_o apostle_n to_o teach_v proceed_v not_o from_o jesus_n christ_n alone_o but_o from_o the_o holy_a spirit_n also_o wherefore_o we_o at_o this_o present_a see_v that_o the_o preach_n of_o the_o gospel_n be_v heavenly_a and_o not_o earthly_a and_o ratify_v by_o god_n himself_o notwithstanding_o we_o must_v also_o observe_v that_o the_o sum_n and_o effect_n of_o the_o gospel_n be_v comprehend_v in_o these_o few_o word_n to_o wit_n that_o jesus_n christ_n both_o teach_v and_o make_v it_o so_o that_o if_o we_o will_v bear_v the_o name_n of_o christian_n we_o must_v be_v teach_v that_o doctrine_n which_o jesus_n christ_n bring_v we_o and_o beside_o be_v also_o eftsoon_o confirm_v therein_o for_o he_o have_v not_o only_o speak_v but_o have_v likewise_o accomplish_v whatsoever_o be_v necessary_a for_o our_o salvation_n moreover_o because_o his_o death_n and_o resurrection_n be_v of_o all_o the_o rest_n the_o most_o principal_a point_n we_o have_v therefore_o speak_v of_o it_o in_o order_n as_o it_o follow_v s._n luke_n then_o say_v that_o jesus_n christ_n after_o he_o have_v suffer_v show_v himself_o alive_a unto_o his_o disciple_n and_o that_o by_o many_o manifest_a proof_n which_o be_v not_o without_o good_a cause_n for_o when_o we_o hear_v the_o promise_n of_o god_n speak_v on_o our_o faith_n will_v still_o hang_v in_o suspense_n until_o such_o time_n as_o we_o be_v assure_v of_o his_o grace_n and_o favour_n which_o can_v never_o be_v without_o the_o gage_n which_o he_o have_v give_v we_o to_o wit_n that_o jesus_n christ_n suffer_v for_o our_o redemption_n &_o bear_v the_o punishment_n due_a for_o our_o sin_n thus_o here_o we_o see_v that_o saint_n luke_n speak_v not_o in_o vain_a of_o the_o proof_n which_o be_v give_v to_o assure_v we_o that_o jesus_n christ_n be_v rise_v again_o 15.14_o 1._o cor._n 15.14_o for_o harken_v what_o saint_n paul_n say_v that_o if_o christ_n be_v not_o rise_v our_o faith_n be_v in_o vain_a and_o our_o preach_v also_o in_o vain_a we_o have_v no_o more_o hope_n then_o very_a beast_n by_o this_o we_o see_v that_o the_o end_n of_o our_o hope_n be_v that_o jesus_n christ_n be_v rise_v from_o the_o dead_a and_o this_o be_v the_o victory_n indeed_o which_o he_o have_v get_v yea_o even_o to_o show_v that_o he_o be_v lord_n over_o life_n and_o death_n 4.15_o rom._n 4.15_o saint_n paul_n also_o say_v that_o jesus_n christ_n die_v for_o our_o sin_n and_o if_o he_o have_v remain_v dead_a still_o what_o hope_n may_v we_o have_v have_v by_o he_o but_o behold_v he_o rise_v again_o &_o that_o be_v the_o triumph_n which_o he_o have_v over_o death_n to_o the_o end_n we_o may_v believe_v in_o he_o saint_n peter_n likewise_o to_o show_v that_o we_o ought_v to_o believe_v in_o jesus_n christ_n 3.21_o 1._o peter_n 3.21_o bring_v for_o proof_n hereof_o none_o other_o thing_n but_o his_o resurrection_n let_v we_o therefore_o observe_v that_o when_o saint_n luke_n say_v that_o jesus_n christ_n show_v himself_o alive_a he_o speak_v of_o a_o thing_n that_o be_v requisite_a for_o the_o assurance_n of_o our_o salvation_n wherefore_o if_o we_o will_v have_v the_o principal_a point_n of_o christianity_n we_o must_v come_v to_o this_o resurrection_n by_o which_o he_o purchase_v for_o we_o life_n and_o salvation_n and_o show_v himself_o to_o be_v the_o very_a son_n of_o god_n moreover_o let_v we_o also_o learn_v that_o since_o saint_n luke_n say_v that_o jesus_n christ_n have_v make_v we_o such_o proof_n of_o his_o resurrection_n let_v we_o not_o call_v that_o thing_n into_o question_n which_o god_n himself_o have_v so_o well_o approve_v and_o therefore_o if_o we_o be_v not_o at_o this_o day_n full_o persuade_v that_o jesus_n christ_n be_v rise_v again_o let_v we_o thank_v our_o own_o unthankfulness_n saint_n luke_n also_o use_v a_o kind_n of_o speech_n which_o a_o fourd_v a_o argument_n that_o bring_v with_o it_o a_o present_a proof_n and_o in_o deed_n we_o see_v what_o pain_n the_o evangelist_n have_v take_v in_o this_o matter_n for_o when_o they_o come_v to_o speak_v of_o the_o resurrection_n they_o lay_v forth_o all_o the_o circumstance_n and_o beside_o they_o recyte_v all_o the_o testimony_n of_o his_o word_n for_o he_o have_v say_v and_o declare_v that_o it_o be_v no_o vain_a imagination_n or_o vision_n whereby_o some_o trouble_n may_v afterward_o arise_v and_o therefore_o we_o ought_v to_o understande_v and_o know_v that_o since_o they_o have_v take_v so_o great_a pain_n herein_o that_o we_o must_v not_o stand_v in_o doubt_n of_o it_o but_o it_o be_v fit_a we_o shall_v receive_v their_o word_n as_o sure_a and_o certain_a see_v they_o bring_v so_o good_a a_o proof_n with_o they_o and_o therefore_o for_o this_o matter_n whereof_o saint_n luke_n speak_v that_o jesus_n christ_n
egypt_n we_o shall_v there_o see_v their_o wonderful_a unthankfulness_n for_o when_o god_n command_v they_o to_o go_v against_o their_o enemy_n and_o promise_v they_o that_o they_o shall_v have_v victory_n they_o will_v not_o go_v on_o but_o murmur_v against_o he_o why_o say_v they_o whether_o shall_v we_o go_v it_o shall_v seem_v that_o he_o go_v about_o to_o destroy_v we_o and_o to_o send_v we_o like_o sheep_n to_o the_o butchery_n loe_o such_o be_v their_o rebellion_n contrariwise_o when_o god_n say_v stir_v not_o they_o will_v needs_o march_v on_o and_o will_v not_o be_v stay_v what_o say_v they_o we_o loose_a time_n why_o march_v we_o not_o forward_o here_o we_o see_v how_o that_o we_o will_v march_v when_o god_n say_v we_o shall_v not_o again_o when_o he_o say_v march_v on_o there_o be_v no_o man_n that_o will_v step_v one_o foot_n forward_o to_o be_v short_a it_o seem_v we_o will_v endeavour_n ourselves_o to_o gainsay_v god_n loe_o here_o our_o deal_n sure_o we_o be_v much_o of_o the_o boldness_n of_o mad_a man_n for_o they_o be_v strong_a and_o a_o mad_a man_n will_v be_v strong_a enough_o both_o to_o kill_v himself_o and_o other_o for_o when_o god_n will_v retire_v we_o we_o be_v mad_a and_o will_v make_v havoc_n of_o all_o thing_n and_o again_o when_o god_n will_v have_v we_o march_v on_o we_o be_v so_o slack_a as_o that_o every_o finger_n be_v a_o thumb_n and_o therefore_o we_o be_v to_o beseech_v the_o lord_n to_o grant_v unto_o we_o the_o like_a grace_n that_o he_o give_v unto_o his_o apostle_n that_o we_o stay_v when_o he_o command_v we_o to_o stay_v and_o march_v on_o when_o he_o bid_v us._n thus_o we_o see_v why_o he_o have_v appoint_v to_o every_o one_o his_o several_a office_n and_o charge_n when_o he_o ordain_v household_n he_o declare_v what_o authority_n the_o man_n shall_v have_v over_o his_o wife_n and_o family_n and_o what_o the_o woman_n obedience_n be_v unto_o the_o husband_n and_o the_o child_n to_o the_o parent_n so_o he_o ordain_v a_o law_n for_o every_o one_o and_o to_o the_o same_o purpose_n and_o effect_n be_v his_o ordinance_n for_o the_o administration_n of_o civil_a government_n for_o he_o declare_v unto_o magistrate_n what_o their_o duty_n be_v and_o how_o they_o ought_v to_o use_v the_o authority_n commit_v unto_o they_o and_o to_o the_o minister_n of_o his_o word_n likewise_o he_o set_v down_o a_o lesson_n in_o writing_n thus_o we_o see_v that_o jesus_n christ_n have_v so_o well_o order_v we_o 14.25_o rom._n 14.25_o as_o that_o if_o we_o have_v any_o regard_n unto_o he_o we_o will_v attempt_v nothing_o which_o he_o command_v we_o not_o we_o see_v also_o the_o say_n of_o saint_n paul_n that_o whatsoever_o be_v not_o of_o faith_n be_v sin_n now_o if_o god_n leave_v we_o in_o doubt_n of_o any_o thing_n that_o we_o have_v to_o do_v we_o can_v but_o continual_o sin_n and_o therefore_o he_o have_v set_v down_o a_o rule_n unto_o we_o what_o we_o shall_v do_v and_o what_o we_o 26.22_o but_o look_v for_o the_o promise_n of_o the_o father_n this_o promise_n as_o we_o shall_v hereafter_o see_v be_v the_o holy_a ghost_n wherefore_o wait_v they_o forsooth_o it_o be_v even_o for_o us._n we_o see_v then_o here_o that_o although_o jesus_n christ_n be_v ascend_v into_o heaven_n yet_o that_o he_o have_v care_n of_o we_o &_o help_v we_o from_o thence_o neither_o be_v he_o so_o that_o he_o have_v by_o his_o holy_a spirit_n give_v commandment_n to_o his_o apostle_n who_o he_o have_v choose_v and_o he_o go_v not_o thus_o away_o without_o think_v of_o us._n how_o then_o forsooth_o he_o give_v a_o charge_n unto_o his_o apostle_n and_o show_v they_o how_o they_o shall_v govern_v themselves_o after_o they_o have_v receive_v the_o holy_a ghost_n and_o now_o we_o have_v here_o a_o pledge_n that_o we_o shall_v never_o want_v his_o help_n so_o that_o we_o stick_v unto_o he_o moreover_o this_o be_v one_o notable_a comfort_n for_o we_o that_o jesus_n christ_n be_v ascend_v into_o heaven_n have_v all_o power_n and_o authority_n in_o his_o own_o hand_n and_o be_v above_o all_o creature_n because_o he_o be_v make_v god_n lieutennaunt_n to_o the_o end_n he_o may_v rule_v all_o thing_n both_o in_o heaven_n and_o in_o earth_n now_o that_o we_o may_v make_v our_o profit_n by_o this_o let_v we_o mark_v that_o although_o god_n have_v so_o high_o exalt_v jesus_n christ_n as_o that_o all_o creature_n be_v subject_a unto_o he_o 1.16.17.18_o col._n 1.16.17.18_o yet_o be_v he_o our_o head_n and_o that_o this_o his_o great_a rule_n and_o empire_n be_v all_o for_o our_o benefit_n if_o so_o be_v we_o be_v his_o member_n but_o he_o can_v not_o be_v our_o head_n without_o we_o be_v true_o unite_v unto_o he_o this_o then_o be_v the_o full_a assurance_n of_o our_o salvation_n which_o be_v that_o because_o jesus_n christ_n be_v ascend_v into_o heaven_n and_o rule_v all_o thing_n insomuch_o that_o the_o very_a angel_n be_v his_o subject_n both_o they_o and_o all_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o creature_n shall_v minister_v to_o we_o herein_o and_o again_o he_o so_o fast_o and_o sure_o hold_v in_o the_o deville_n as_o that_o they_o can_v do_v nothing_o without_o his_o leave_n wherefore_o we_o be_v assure_v that_o they_o can_v do_v we_o no_o hurt_n and_o why_o so_o forsooth_o because_o they_o be_v not_o able_a any_o way_n to_o stand_v against_o he_o moreover_o we_o must_v join_v this_o glorious_a power_n with_o that_o knowledge_n which_o we_o here_o have_v not_o as_o though_o it_o be_v do_v but_o for_o that_o present_a but_o the_o power_n thereof_o extend_v itself_o even_o unto_o we_o because_o it_o reach_v over_o heaven_n and_o earth_n now_o this_o witness_v unto_o we_o that_o he_o be_v with_o we_o whenas_o we_o understande_v his_o word_n because_o he_o have_v so_o promise_v and_o he_o use_v not_o to_o lie_v as_o man_n do_v thus_o we_o see_v how_o sure_o we_o be_v of_o his_o presence_n and_o will_v defend_v we_o by_o his_o holy_a spirit_n for_o else_o what_o shall_v become_v of_o we_o every_o thing_n will_v make_v we_o quail_v because_o we_o be_v as_o frail_a as_o be_v possible_a contrariwise_o we_o see_v how_o the_o devil_n be_v arm_v at_o all_o point_n against_o us._n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v needful_a that_o god_n shall_v assist_v we_o with_o his_o holy_a spirit_n that_o we_o may_v withstand_v all_o his_o force_n we_o see_v then_o that_o although_o the_o body_n of_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n be_v far_o from_o we_o yet_o be_v we_o near_o he_o through_o his_o power_n and_o might_n which_o thing_n he_o show_v we_o in_o the_o supper_n and_o therefore_o be_v to_o apply_v this_o doctrine_n to_o ourselves_o for_o the_o bring_n of_o which_o to_o pass_v we_o must_v not_o approach_v unto_o he_o as_o many_o do_v which_o come_v unto_o he_o like_o beast_n but_o let_v we_o understand_v what_o it_o be_v that_o be_v there_o give_v us._n when_o we_o see_v god_n give_v we_o food_n for_o our_o body_n it_o be_v a_o great_a blessing_n but_o we_o come_v not_o thither_o to_o fill_v our_o paunch_n why_o so_o because_o it_o signify_v unto_o we_o that_o we_o ought_v not_o to_o seek_v for_o our_o bodily_a sustenance_n therein_o for_o as_o saint_n paul_n say_v 22_o 1._o cor._n 11._o 22_o we_o have_v house_n to_o eat_v and_o drink_v in_o and_o therefore_o we_o come_v not_o hither_o to_o fill_v our_o belly_n wherefore_o then_o forsooth_o it_o be_v a_o testimony_n that_o jesus_n christ_n will_v feed_v our_o soul_n what_o shall_v our_o soul_n be_v feed_v with_o bread_n and_o wine_n no_o no_o that_o be_v not_o the_o meaning_n for_o there_o be_v nothing_o wherewith_o they_o can_v be_v feed_v but_o with_o jesus_n christ_n for_o they_o must_v be_v maintain_v with_o everlasting_a life_n which_o the_o angel_n themselves_o can_v give_v for_o as_o they_o have_v no_o be_v from_o eternity_n so_o also_o may_v they_o have_v a_o end_n and_o
therefore_o we_o must_v conclude_v that_o there_o be_v but_o one_o father_n of_o life_n which_o be_v jesus_n christ_n wherefore_o we_o come_v to_o seek_v he_o in_o the_o supper_n and_o every_o one_o that_o come_v must_v have_v this_o settle_a mind_n to_o be_v able_a to_o say_v i_o come_v hither_o to_o have_v a_o testimony_n that_o jesus_n christ_n be_v my_o life_n that_o be_v incorporate_a into_o he_o i_o may_v live_v for_o ever_o but_o after_o what_o sort_n come_v we_o to_o find_v he_o in_o the_o supper_n if_o we_o come_v after_o the_o manner_n of_o the_o papist_n to_o find_v the_o body_n of_o our_o lord_n jesus_n we_o deceive_v ourselves_o for_o that_o be_v the_o most_o curse_a idolatry_n that_o may_v be_v to_o think_v the_o bread_n that_o we_o receive_v there_o to_o be_v the_o body_n of_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n we_o must_v therefore_o seek_v for_o he_o above_o and_o although_o we_o know_v he_o to_o be_v in_o heaven_n yet_o doubt_v we_o not_o but_o that_o he_o be_v with_o we_o by_o his_o grace_n insomuch_o that_o even_o as_o we_o see_v and_o touch_v the_o sign_n so_o likewise_o do_v jesus_n christ_n accomplish_v in_o we_o the_o thing_n which_o the_o sign_n represent_v his_o grace_n howbeit_o here_o be_v not_o all_o to_o have_v understand_v thus_o much_o but_o we_o must_v also_o lift_v up_o our_o mind_n unto_o heaven_n for_o else_o we_o shall_v never_o be_v unite_v to_o jesus_n christ_n no_o doubt_n of_o it_o there_o be_v many_o which_o know_v well_o enough_o that_o jesus_n christ_n be_v not_o in_o the_o bread_n and_o wine_n but_o in_o the_o mean_a while_n where_o be_v their_o heart_n forsooth_o some_o of_o their_o heart_n be_v plunge_v over_o head_n and_o ear_n in_o covetousness_n some_o of_o they_o be_v drunken_a with_o ambition_n and_o other_o some_o their_o heart_n be_v wrap_v up_o in_o all_o kind_n of_o villainy_n for_o behold_v the_o whooremonger_n his_o mind_n be_v set_v on_o nothing_o else_o but_o upon_o lechery_n other_o upon_o drunkenness_n and_o belly_n cheer_v in_o other_o some_o be_v nothing_o but_o blasphemy_n murmur_a &_o all_o villainy_n which_o saint_n paul_n call_v earthly_a member_n 5._o colos_n 3._o 5._o if_o you_o will_v say_v he_o come_v near_o unto_o jesus_n christ_n you_o must_v mortify_v your_o earthly_a member_n what_o must_v we_o forgo_v our_o hand_n and_o foot_n no_o that_o be_v not_o his_o meaning_n but_o we_o must_v mortify_v our_o fornication_n uncleanness_n inordinate_a affection_n evil_a concupiscence_n ambition_n and_o covetousness_n which_o be_v worship_v of_o image_n and_o all_o other_o such_o like_a will_v we_o then_o seek_v for_o jesus_n christ_n in_o heaven_n then_o must_v we_o rid_v ourselves_o of_o all_o these_o earthly_a member_n for_o what_o agreement_n can_v there_o be_v between_o we_o &_o jesus_n christ_n we_o must_v not_o thrust_v he_o amongst_o our_o pollution_n but_o let_v we_o go_v unto_o he_o that_o he_o may_v rid_v we_o of_o they_o thus_o we_o see_v that_o we_o must_v not_o only_o understande_v that_o he_o in_o heaven_n but_o we_o must_v also_o mortify_v these_o earthly_a member_n which_o do_v separate_v we_o from_o he_o and_o have_v our_o mind_n occupy_v a_o loft_n how_o be_v that_o let_v we_o live_v chaste_o sober_o charitable_o temperate_o patient_o and_o altogether_o vertuos_o and_o these_o be_v the_o feather_n wherewith_o we_o must_v fly_v up_o into_o heaven_n although_o to_o speak_v proper_o we_o must_v have_v neither_o wing_n to_o fly_v with_o nor_o yet_o ladder_n to_o climb_v up_o but_o it_o be_v jesus_n christ_n that_o bring_v we_o thither_o and_o raise_v we_o up_o by_o the_o grace_n which_o i_o have_v name_v and_o which_o he_o bestow_v upon_o us._n here_o then_o we_o see_v how_o we_o must_v apply_v this_o doctrine_n to_o the_o supper_n so_o that_o when_o the_o bread_n and_o wine_n shall_v be_v deliver_v we_o we_o must_v learn_v to_o seek_v for_o all_o our_o felicity_n in_o jesus_n christ_n live_v in_o brotherly_a love_n together_o and_o every_o man_n mortify_v his_o sinful_a lust_n and_o affection_n if_o i_o feel_v myself_o to_o be_v by_o any_o mean_v carry_v away_o from_o jesus_n christ_n i_o ought_v to_o pull_v that_o mean_a from_o i_o out_o by_o the_o root_n that_o i_o may_v be_v true_o raise_v up_o to_o jesus_n christ_n not_o that_o we_o can_v be_v perfect_o raise_v up_o but_o we_o must_v labour_v to_o go_v more_o and_o more_o on_o for_o in_o deed_n the_o supper_n be_v ordain_v to_o that_o end_n and_o we_o shall_v not_o receive_v it_o only_o once_o in_o our_o life_n but_o very_o often_o to_o signify_v unto_o we_o that_o we_o must_v go_v on_o in_o this_o world_n until_o such_o time_n as_o he_o have_v deliver_v we_o from_o this_o corrupt_a body_n and_o bring_v we_o unto_o himself_o and_o according_a to_o this_o holy_a doctrine_n let_v we_o fall_v down_o before_o the_o face_n of_o our_o good_a god_n and_o acknowledge_v our_o offence_n beseech_v he_o that_o he_o will_v not_o suffer_v we_o to_o be_v so_o give_v over_o unto_o they_o as_o heretofore_o we_o have_v be_v but_o so_o wean_v we_o from_o they_o as_o that_o we_o seek_v after_o none_o other_o thing_n but_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n and_o obey_v his_o commandment_n because_o that_o be_v the_o rule_n and_o order_n by_o which_o he_o will_v have_v we_o to_o be_v bring_v unto_o himself_o and_o so_o let_v we_o all_o say_v o_o almighty_a god_n and_o heavenly_a father_n etc._n etc._n the_o second_o sermon_n of_o the_o ascension_n act_n first_o 4_o and_o when_o jesus_n have_v gather_v his_o disciple_n together_o he_o command_v they_o that_o they_o shall_v not_o depart_v from_o jerusalem_n but_o wait_v for_o the_o promise_n of_o the_o father_n of_o who_o say_v he_o you_o have_v hear_v of_o i_o 5_o for_o john_n true_o baptize_v with_o water_n but_o you_o shall_v be_v baptize_v after_o a_o while_n with_o the_o holy_a ghost_n we_o have_v heretofore_o speak_v of_o the_o obedience_n of_o the_o apostle_n and_o of_o their_o patient_a wait_v for_o the_o promise_n which_o jesus_n christ_n have_v make_v they_o by_o mouth_n and_o beside_o although_o they_o be_v appoint_v to_o this_o office_n of_o apostleship_n yet_o do_v they_o not_o thrust_v themselves_o in_o to_o preach_v before_o such_o time_n as_o they_o have_v be_v confirm_v by_o the_o holy_a ghost_n here_o than_o we_o see_v their_o obedience_n join_v with_o humility_n in_o that_o they_o acknowledge_v god_n to_o be_v their_o guide_n and_o now_o we_o be_v to_o handle_v that_o which_o follow_v that_o when_o jesus_n christ_n tell_v they_o of_o the_o promise_n of_o god_n his_o father_n he_o say_v you_o have_v hear_v of_o i_o heretofore_o as_o if_o he_o shall_v have_v say_v that_o they_o be_v not_o to_o look_v for_o that_o at_o the_o hand_n of_o god_n which_o they_o in_o their_o own_o judgement_n think_v to_o be_v best_a but_o for_o the_o thing_n which_o he_o have_v promise_v to_o be_v short_a we_o must_v here_o gather_v a_o doctrine_n unto_o ourselves_o which_o be_v this_o we_o must_v not_o build_v our_o faith_n upon_o any_o thing_n that_o we_o ourselves_o shall_v imagine_v 10.17_o rom._n 10.17_o but_o upon_o the_o promise_n of_o god_n for_o saint_n paul_n say_v that_o faith_n come_v by_o hear_v not_o by_o the_o herring_n of_o man_n speech_n and_o talk_v but_o only_o by_o the_o hear_n of_o the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o in_o deed_n because_o we_o be_v incline_v to_o diverse_a temptation_n it_o be_v meet_a we_o shall_v build_v upon_o god_n and_o upon_o his_o word_n yea_o very_o howbeit_o he_o will_v not_o come_v down_o from_o heaven_n to_o speak_v to_o us._n that_o be_v true_a in_o deed_n but_o we_o must_v be_v well_o assure_v that_o the_o doctrine_n which_o be_v preach_v unto_o we_o come_v from_o he_o whereof_o jesus_n christ_n be_v a_o witness_n when_o he_o speak_v unto_o his_o apostle_n for_o all_o thing_n say_v he_o that_o i_o have_v hear_v of_o my_o father_n have_v i_o make_v know_v unto_o you_o 15.15_o john_n 15.15_o and_o therefore_o you_o must_v not_o in_o any_o wise_a distrust_v i_o because_o i_o be_o a_o faithful_a witness_n for_o we_o see_v that_o jesus_n

abide_v it_o all_o our_o life_n long_o let_v we_o now_o see_v wherefore_o he_o say_v that_o it_o shall_v be_v within_o a_o short_a time_n after_o and_o so_o let_v we_o learn_v to_o make_v our_o profit_n upon_o this_o place_n which_o be_v not_o only_o to_o understand_v that_o jesus_n christ_n speak_v it_o to_o his_o apostle_n but_o that_o it_o be_v also_o speak_v to_o us._n true_a it_o be_v that_o we_o receive_v not_o the_o holy_a ghost_n in_o a_o fiery_a manner_n and_o yet_o this_o office_n be_v not_o give_v to_o jesus_n christ_n in_o vain_a and_o we_o have_v also_o the_o power_n thereof_o neither_o have_v he_o take_v baptism_n a_o way_n with_o he_o but_o even_o as_o he_o have_v leave_v we_o the_o sign_n so_o likewise_o be_v it_o eftsoon_o a_o manifest_a proof_n that_o he_o will_v always_o be_v present_a with_o we_o to_o make_v this_o sacrament_n available_a unto_o we_o by_o his_o holy_a spirit_n and_o we_o must_v also_o acknowledge_v that_o we_o be_v altogether_o pollute_v to_o the_o end_n we_o may_v go_v to_o jesus_n christ_n and_o be_v make_v clean_o by_o he_o in_o deed_n this_o counsel_n will_v never_o come_v from_o ourselves_o and_o therefore_o must_v god_n by_o the_o admonition_n which_o he_o have_v set_v down_o for_o that_o purpose_n bring_v we_o to_o jesus_n christ_n for_o the_o find_v out_o of_o the_o truth_n of_o baptism_n and_o let_v we_o noâ—_n be_v 〈◊〉_d foolish_a as_o to_o think_v that_o any_o creature_n be_v able_a to_o help_v we_o but_o let_v we_o go_v direct_o on_o to_o jesus_n christ_n and_o acknowledge_v he_o to_o be_v whole_o we_o sure_o when_o it_o be_v say_v that_o he_o baptize_v although_o we_o see_v he_o to_o be_v far_o from_o we_o &_o advance_v unto_o this_o excellent_a majesty_n above_o all_o other_o creature_n a_o man_n will_v think_v that_o this_o may_v be_v a_o occâ—sion_n for_o we_o to_o mistrust_v but_o because_o he_o be_v our_o brother_n we_o have_v a_o ready_a way_n to_o come_v unto_o he_o let_v we_o therefore_o believe_v that_o he_o will_v stand_v to_o his_o promise_n and_o that_o whatsoever_o he_o have_v say_v be_v undoubted_o true_a and_o beside_o that_o it_o will_v not_o be_v long_o too_o wherefore_o when_o we_o have_v abide_v a_o day_n let_v we_o also_o be_v ready_a to_o tarry_v a_o month_n and_o look_v unto_o that_o everlasting_a kingdom_n and_o so_o without_o doubt_n we_o shall_v not_o only_a step_n for_o ward_n but_o also_o continue_v to_o go_v on_o until_o such_o time_n as_o we_o have_v attain_v unto_o the_o mark_n which_o be_v set_v before_o us._n and_o according_a to_o this_o doctrine_n let_v we_o fall_v down_o before_o the_o face_n of_o our_o good_a god_n and_o beseech_v he_o not_o to_o punish_v we_o for_o our_o sinful_a life_n pass_v but_o so_o renew_v we_o with_o his_o holy_a spirit_n as_o that_o we_o cease_v not_o march_v on_o until_o such_o time_n as_o we_o be_v come_v unto_o this_o glory_n whereof_o he_o have_v already_o give_v we_o some_o taste_n and_o feel_v and_o so_o let_v we_o say_v o_o almighty_a god_n and_o heavenly_a father_n etc._n etc._n the_o three_o sermon_n of_o the_o ascension_n act_n first_o 6_o when_o they_o therefore_o be_v come_v together_o they_o ask_v of_o he_o say_v lord_n will_v thou_o at_o this_o time_n restore_v the_o kingdom_n of_o israel_n 7_o and_o he_o say_v unto_o they_o it_o be_v not_o for_o you_o to_o know_v the_o our_o weakness_n whenas_o god_n forsake_v we_o we_o shall_v do_v ourselves_o great_a good_a now_o under_o this_o word_n weakness_n i_o mean_v all_o our_o vice_n and_o imperfection_n as_o very_o feeble_a thing_n and_o easy_o to_o be_v overcome_v with_o every_o temptation_n according_a to_o the_o corruption_n and_o perverseness_n of_o our_o gross_a wit_n and_o mind_n wherefore_o whenas_o we_o shall_v have_v deep_o consider_v of_o these_o thing_n we_o must_v pray_v unto_o god_n and_o beseech_v he_o to_o have_v a_o eye_n to_o the_o remedy_n of_o all_o the_o misery_n whereunto_o we_o be_v subject_a thus_o we_o see_v i_o say_v how_o we_o shall_v great_o profit_v ourselves_o by_o the_o consideration_n of_o these_o thing_n we_o have_v therefore_o to_o note_v the_o matter_n which_o saint_n never_o understand_v one_o word_n of_o that_o which_o be_v teach_v they_o and_o what_o be_v the_o reason_n forsooth_o we_o shall_v be_v continual_o unable_a to_o any_o goodness_n without_o god_n shall_v first_o correct_v this_o ignorance_n which_o be_v a_o thing_n that_o ought_v great_o to_o humble_a us._n and_o therefore_o we_o must_v understand_v that_o our_o hear_n of_o whatsoever_o be_v say_v unto_o we_o will_v be_v to_o no_o purpose_n and_o that_o because_o it_o be_v speak_v as_o unto_o a_o block_n until_o such_o time_n as_o god_n take_v away_o the_o grossness_n of_o our_o corrupt_a nature_n for_o else_o we_o shall_v never_o understand_v what_o he_o say_v unto_o we_o by_o reason_n his_o word_n be_v far_o beyong_v our_o reach_n neither_o need_v we_o any_o other_o proof_n to_o condemn_v the_o ignorance_n of_o the_o apostle_n they_o their_o own_o word_n for_o the_o question_n which_o they_o ask_v jesus_n christ_n be_v foolish_a &_o of_o no_o valour_n but_o only_o a_o faith_n and_o sure_o the_o article_n of_o our_o faith_n be_v not_o only_o profitable_a but_o also_o necessary_a for_o our_o salvation_n howbeit_o we_o shall_v never_o profit_v ourselves_o great_o by_o the_o ascension_n of_o our_o lord_n without_o we_o know_v it_o to_o be_v true_a in_o deed_n and_o therefore_o saint_n luke_n say_v that_o the_o apostle_n see_v he_o ascend_v and_o say_v beside_o that_o they_o abide_v still_o gaze_v there_o until_o such_o time_n as_o they_o be_v tell_v that_o they_o must_v tarry_v no_o long_o but_o return_v to_o jerusalem_n to_o do_v their_o office_n as_o be_v command_v they_o until_o the_o judgement_n day_n thus_o we_o see_v what_o he_o say_v of_o the_o ascension_n of_o our_o lord_n to_o the_o end_n it_o may_v not_o be_v call_v again_o into_o question_n assemble_v ourselves_o and_o although_o we_o be_v far_o from_o blow_n yet_o let_v we_o join_v ourselves_o with_o they_o that_o fight_v by_o aid_v they_o in_o their_o conflict_n with_o our_o prayer_n in_o stead_n of_o our_o key_n coldness_n that_o we_o may_v fervent_o and_o earnest_o call_v upon_o our_o god_n and_o as_o for_o our_o brethren_n who_o have_v need_n to_o be_v confirm_v in_o such_o assault_n wherewith_o they_o be_v attempt_v let_v our_o good_a god_n show_v that_o it_o be_v he_o himself_o which_o work_v in_o they_o and_o guide_v and_o govern_v they_o moreover_o we_o be_v for_o there_o be_v but_o a_o few_o place_n where_o the_o pure_a doctrine_n of_o god_n be_v preach_v and_o yet_o where_o there_o be_v any_o church_n there_o be_v in_o it_o many_o contemner_n of_o god_n and_o dissolute_a and_o profane_a people_n who_o will_v infect_v all_o the_o rest_n if_o god_n by_o his_o wonderful_a power_n preserve_v they_o not_o and_o beside_o there_o be_v some_o which_o will_v even_o continue_v still_o in_o their_o beastliness_n yea_o there_o be_v such_o a_o number_n of_o they_o at_o this_o day_n as_o that_o for_o these_o twenty_o or_o two_o and_o twenty_o year_n a_o man_n find_v a_o great_a many_o more_o than_o need_v that_o be_v give_v to_o be_v so_o drunkenne_n as_o that_o they_o have_v neither_o wit_n nor_o reason_n and_o some_o of_o they_o will_v not_o be_v drink_v with_o that_o which_o they_o take_v in_o the_o morning_n but_o will_v be_v so_o blockish_a with_o their_o wine_n which_o they_o gull_v in_o the_o evening_n as_o that_o a_o man_n will_v think_v they_o have_v do_v nothing_o else_o but_o byb_v from_o the_o peep_v of_o the_o day_n another_o sort_n there_o be_v who_o for_o fear_n they_o shall_v not_o have_v drink_n enough_o will_v begin_v so_o early_o as_o that_o they_o will_v be_v drink_v all_o day_n long_o and_o thereupon_o the_o wine_n so_o bereave_v they_o of_o their_o wit_n and_o understanding_n as_o that_o they_o can_v neither_o go_v nor_o at_o that_o time_n they_o love_v to_o do_v it_o in_o the_o night_n season_n &_o now_o they_o make_v no_o reckon_n to_o be_v drink_v at_o noon_n day_n and_o then_o forsooth_o they_o must_v needs_o have_v a_o nap_n &_o so_o keep_v the_o liquor_n warm_a in_o the_o press_n and_o this_o we_o be_v sure_a to_o see_v by_o they_o that_o they_o will_v show_v themselves_o what_o they_o be_v even_o at_o the_o sermon_n time_n for_o you_o shall_v not_o see_v they_o scarsce_o a_o hour_n at_o the_o hear_n of_o the_o word_n of_o god_n but_o they_o will_v forthwith_o manifest_v the_o very_a effect_n of_o their_o drunkenness_n by_o their_o drowsiness_n so_o that_o they_o receive_v no_o benefit_n in_o the_o whole_a world_n by_o come_v thither_o and_o no_o marvel_n for_o the_o wine_n and_o the_o meat_n and_o you_o shall_v many_o time_n see_v they_o sleep_v at_o a_o sermon_n in_o the_o morning_n whenas_o a_o man_n will_v think_v they_o have_v neither_o eat_v nor_o drink_v but_o herein_o they_o show_v what_o great_a delight_n they_o have_v in_o the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o to_o this_o they_o can_v make_v no_o excuse_n because_o they_o come_v present_o from_o their_o rest_n and_o now_o to_o the_o matter_n s._n peter_n speak_v according_a to_o the_o manner_n and_o custom_n that_o then_o be_v say_v it_o be_v not_o like_a that_o these_o man_n be_v drunken_a since_o it_o be_v but_o the_o third_o hour_n of_o the_o day_n he_o now_o here_o apply_v this_o miracle_n which_o be_v do_v unto_o his_o doctrine_n for_o the_o holy_a ghost_n be_v not_o give_v to_o the_o apostle_n that_o they_o shall_v be_v silent_a whenas_o any_o thing_n be_v move_v which_o tend_v to_o the_o glorify_v of_o the_o work_v of_o god_n but_o that_o they_o shall_v be_v strong_a constant_o to_o deliver_v out_o the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o publish_v the_o gospel_n according_o as_o our_o lord_n jesus_n have_v grant_v they_o the_o mean_a and_o therefore_o we_o see_v that_o god_n wrought_v wonderful_o and_o that_o the_o preach_n of_o the_o gospel_n throughout_o the_o whole_a world_n by_o so_o small_a a_o number_n come_v not_o from_o man_n now_o s._n peter_n in_o his_o sermon_n show_v a_o holy_a boldness_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n and_o geve_v they_o to_o understand_v who_o make_v a_o mock_n at_o the_o miracle_n that_o be_v do_v and_o think_v not_o reverent_o of_o it_o that_o jesus_n christ_n manife_v not_o as_o be_v abash_v and_o make_v they_o in_o a_o admiration_n and_o reverence_n of_o the_o work_v of_o god_n by_o utterlye_o refuse_v the_o foolish_a and_o fantastical_a opinion_n of_o all_o these_o and_o such_o like_o gybers_n and_o even_o so_o will_v we_o likewise_o at_o this_o day_n do_v for_o if_o there_o be_v any_o scoffer_n amongst_o we_o and_o that_o we_o mean_v to_o reproove_v this_o fault_n we_o will_v cry_v out_o against_o all_o although_o the_o whole_a company_n be_v not_o to_o be_v charge_v therewith_o and_o yet_o no_o doubt_n of_o it_o all_z they_o who_o conscience_n be_v guilty_a will_v sure_o condemn_v themselves_o for_o their_o own_o wickedness_n will_v sufficient_o witness_v against_o they_o without_o be_v charge_v therewith_o or_o yet_o the_o matter_n by_o piecemeal_o lay_v open_a nevertheless_o it_o be_v meet_v that_o man_n sometime_o shall_v somewhat_o be_v narrow_o press_v and_o find_v fault_n with_o as_o it_o be_v by_o name_n and_o to_o be_v remember_v and_o point_a at_o with_o the_o finger_n for_o their_o offence_n because_o they_o will_v then_o be_v more_o ashamed_a then_o if_o they_o be_v general_o reproove_v howbeit_o it_o be_v a_o wonder_n to_o see_v that_o some_o man_n can_v in_o no_o wise_n abide_v to_o be_v rebuke_v of_o their_o fault_n although_o it_o be_v general_o do_v for_o thus_o they_o will_v cover_v it_o why_o say_v they_o although_o there_o be_v a_o great_a many_o guilty_a of_o the_o vice_n which_o be_v speak_v of_o yet_o be_v there_o some_o innocent_a thereof_o and_o so_o we_o shall_v hear_v they_o murmur_v make_n of_o this_o sermon_n forsooth_o his_o intent_n be_v to_o bring_v the_o people_n to_o the_o knowledge_n of_o jesus_n christ_n and_o this_o be_v indeed_o the_o end_n why_o the_o tongue_n be_v give_v to_o the_o apostle_n for_o the_o diversity_n of_o tongue_n do_v even_o shut_v up_o the_o gate_n against_o the_o gospel_n so_o that_o without_o the_o knowledge_n of_o they_o it_o seem_v impossible_a to_o have_v the_o gospel_n to_o be_v preach_v throughout_o the_o world_n and_o therefore_o saint_n peter_n say_v if_o you_o remember_v the_o pprophecy_n of_o the_o prophet_n joel_n the_o promise_n therein_o contain_v be_v accomplish_v by_o the_o come_n of_o jesus_n christ_n for_o after_o the_o threaten_n of_o the_o prophet_n
we_o must_v not_o do_v as_o many_o of_o the_o papist_n do_v who_o neither_o care_n for_o god_n nor_o his_o word_n but_o content_v themselves_o only_o with_o this_o bare_a name_n of_o a_o christian_a and_o so_o they_o may_v be_v call_v by_o that_o name_n they_o care_v for_o no_o more_o now_o if_o they_o be_v ask_v and_o if_o they_o be_v christian_n i_o pray_v you_o what_o answer_n will_v they_o make_v sure_o they_o think_v they_o have_v great_a wrong_n offer_v they_o to_o have_v this_o question_n demand_v what_o i_o beseech_v you_o good_a sir_n will_v they_o say_v be_v we_o not_o christian_n have_v we_o not_o be_v baptize_v yea_o iwis_o i_o grant_v it_o but_o what_o faith_n have_v you_o for_o all_o this_o very_o they_o will_v say_v that_o they_o believe_v as_o the_o church_n beléeve_v and_o so_o by_o this_o mean_a they_o have_v aswadle_v faith_n wherein_o their_o teacher_n have_v instruct_v they_o in_o say_v that_o it_o be_v sufficient_a for_o they_o to_o believe_v as_o the_o church_n beléeve_v let_v they_o also_o be_v ask_v how_o god_n be_v to_o be_v serve_v and_o worship_v why_o they_o think_v that_o question_n be_v soon_o answer_v and_o thus_o do_v god_n just_o punish_v the_o iniquity_n of_o man_n when_o we_o see_v simple_a soul_n guide_v by_o such_o instructer_n of_o satan_n to_o bring_v they_o tumble_v headlonge_v together_o into_o the_o bottomless_a pyt_n of_o hell_n with_o themselves_o thus_o we_o see_v how_o this_o romish_a idol_n have_v licour_v christendom_n with_o all_o kind_n of_o lie_v and_o false_a doctrine_n and_o how_o so_o forsooth_o because_o man_n have_v stop_v up_o the_o way_n against_o the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o be_v content_v to_o be_v lycour_v with_o lease_v but_o by_o the_o way_n let_v we_o come_v home_o to_o ourselves_o and_o let_v we_o neither_o condemn_v the_o papist_n nor_o yet_o any_o other_o but_o eftsoon_o apply_v this_o doctrine_n unto_o our_o own_o use_n first_o of_o all_o we_o have_v the_o gospel_n the_o doctrine_n of_o all_o wisdom_n and_o yet_o how_o deaf_a and_o blockish_a be_v we_o we_o be_v daily_o preach_v unto_o but_o what_o instruction_n receive_v we_o thereby_o for_o all_o that_o sure_o sure_o it_o be_v well_o enough_o perceive_v and_o the_o fruit_n that_o come_v by_o it_o without_o all_o doubt_n it_o be_v true_o say_v that_o we_o have_v the_o gospel_n but_o if_o we_o live_v not_o in_o all_o obedience_n thereunto_o what_o testimony_n shall_v we_o have_v that_o we_o be_v the_o servant_n of_o god_n for_o according_a to_o that_o which_o we_o handle_v on_o sunday_n last_o we_o can_v be_v the_o servant_n of_o god_n without_o we_o be_v partaker_n of_o his_o holy_a spirit_n who_o be_v not_o without_o cause_n call_v the_o spirit_n of_o wisdom_n for_o by_o this_o we_o be_v show_v that_o we_o can_v have_v so_o small_a a_o portion_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n if_o we_o will_v continue_v it_o but_o that_o god_n will_v more_o and_o more_o augment_v it_o in_o us._n in_o very_a deed_n every_o man_n can_v have_v the_o like_a measure_n thereof_o howbeit_o that_o be_v no_o let_v why_o we_o shall_v not_o increase_v our_o small_a talon_n for_o although_o a_o man_n have_v dream_v that_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n as_o he_o be_v god_n justifi_v the_o faithful_a but_o we_o must_v as_o i_o have_v already_o say_v seek_v for_o our_o righteousness_n very_o far_o of_o &_o that_o be_v enough_o to_o make_v we_o fainthearted_a &_o to_o make_v we_o also_o vanish_v away_o before_o we_o come_v at_o he_o but_o contrariwise_o as_o he_o be_v a_o mortal_a man_n he_o call_v we_o unto_o himself_o and_o make_v himself_o a_o mediator_n because_o we_o may_v seek_v for_o our_o righteousness_n therein_o and_o this_o be_v a_o point_n worthy_a the_o observation_n &_o beside_o let_v we_o always_o come_v unto_o this_o knowledge_n and_o because_o the_o faithless_a shut_v the_o gate_n upon_o themselves_o and_o so_o spoil_v themselves_o of_o the_o benefit_n which_o they_o shall_v estimation_n of_o the_o gospel_n whenas_o we_o see_v that_o it_o be_v in_o popery_n so_o darken_v yea_o and_o in_o such_o sort_n altogether_o deface_v as_o that_o the_o poor_a soul_n be_v utter_o famish_v for_o although_o it_o be_v somewhat_o slight_o preach_v yet_o leave_v they_o always_o the_o poor_a people_n doubtful_a and_o superstitious_a without_o have_v any_o assueraunce_n of_o the_o mercy_n of_o god_n yea_o and_o the_o papist_n say_v that_o we_o must_v not_o presume_v to_o assure_v ourselves_o of_o the_o love_n of_o god_n but_o only_o live_v upon_o conjecture_n and_o guess_n howbeit_o this_o be_v to_o make_v the_o fruit_n of_o the_o death_n and_o passion_n of_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n of_o none_o effect_n and_o therefore_o let_v we_o learn_v so_o to_o benefit_n ourselves_o by_o the_o gospel_n as_o that_o we_o may_v be_v certify_v that_o god_n love_v we_o and_o take_v we_o for_o his_o own_o dear_a child_n wherefore_o let_v we_o as_o i_o have_v already_o say_v so_o much_o the_o more_o praise_n and_o magnifye_v this_o grace_n whenas_o we_o see_v the_o great_a part_n of_o the_o world_n to_o be_v so_o far_o from_o it_o now_o it_o remain_v that_o the_o prophet_n add_v and_o say_v that_o he_o lay_v down_o his_o soul_n for_o many_o whereby_o he_o signify_v that_o we_o be_v not_o justify_v by_o a_o certain_a vain_a imaginative_a faith_n in_o only_o beléeve_v that_o there_o be_v a_o god_n and_o by_o a_o confuse_a knowledge_n and_o general_a conceit_n to_o understande_v that_o jesus_n christ_n have_v suffer_v death_n and_o passion_n but_o because_o we_o be_v make_v partaker_n by_o faith_n of_o the_o sacrifice_n that_o be_v offer_v for_o we_o to_o the_o end_n god_n may_v be_v favourable_a unto_o we_o and_o not_o impute_v our_o sin_n and_o iniquity_n any_o more_o unto_o us._n sure_o the_o papist_n be_v so_o blockish_a and_o brutish_a as_o that_o when_o they_o will_v show_v that_o we_o be_v not_o justify_v by_o faith_n only_o they_o reason_n after_o this_o manner_n we_o be_v say_v they_o justify_v by_o the_o mercy_n of_o god_n and_o therefore_o not_o by_o faith_n only_o moreover_o they_o say_v we_o be_v justify_v by_o the_o death_n and_o passion_n of_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n and_o therefore_o no_o more_o by_o faith_n only_o it_o be_v much_o like_a as_o if_o a_o man_n will_v say_v we_o be_v make_v warm_a by_o heat_n and_o therefore_o not_o by_o the_o sun_n we_o be_v lighten_v by_o the_o light_n and_o therefore_o not_o by_o the_o sun_n now_o let_v we_o here_o note_n that_o when_o we_o speak_v of_o faith_n it_o be_v to_o this_o end_n to_o bring_v we_o back_o to_o the_o gospel_n for_o as_o i_o have_v already_o say_v here_o be_v two_o kind_n of_o righteousness_n for_o we_o be_v say_v to_o be_v justify_v by_o the_o law_n whenas_o we_o have_v fulfil_v all_o whatsoever_o god_n have_v command_v we_o therein_o now_o it_o be_v impossible_a to_o come_v to_o the_o perfection_n thereof_o and_o therefore_o we_o see_v that_o we_o be_v bare_a of_o this_o righteousness_n and_o utter_o cut_v of_o from_o it_o there_o be_v also_o another_o kind_n of_o righteousness_n and_o that_o be_v the_o righteousness_n of_o jesus_n christ_n for_o after_o we_o have_v be_v thorough_o examine_v and_o try_v we_o be_v sure_a to_o be_v find_v guilty_a of_o malice_n and_o wickedness_n so_o that_o we_o must_v needs_o be_v afeard_a because_o we_o feel_v god_n to_o be_v so_o arm_v in_o wrath_n against_o we_o as_o that_o he_o do_v nothing_o else_o but_o thunder_n out_o vengeance_n upon_o we_o to_o throw_v we_o down_o into_o the_o pit_n of_o hell_n and_o therefore_o when_o we_o be_v drive_v to_o this_o so_o great_a a_o extremity_n behold_v how_o christ_n grant_v we_o a_o remedy_n to_o mitigate_v and_o assawge_a speak_v after_o his_o time_n that_o be_v he_o make_v we_o in_o the_o first_o place_n to_o come_v unto_o the_o death_n and_o passion_n of_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n behold_v he_o crucify_v for_o our_o sake_n and_o beside_o that_o we_o be_v assure_v by_o the_o gospel_n that_o whatsoever_o jesus_n christ_n do_v and_o suffer_v belong_v and_o be_v to_o be_v apply_v to_o we_o at_o this_o day_n
