be_v destitute_a and_o ignorant_a of_o all_o the_o liberal_a art_n and_o science_n use_v among_o we_o and_o of_o all_o these_o convenience_n which_o so_o much_o conduce_v to_o the_o facilitate_v of_o humane_a society_n and_o accommodate_v of_o mankind_n in_o their_o live_n together_o i_o say_v those_o be_v still_o true_o account_v man_n as_o have_v that_o which_o be_v true_o essential_a or_o constitutive_a of_o a_o man_n as_o such_o in_o like_a manner_n this_o principle_n suppose_v the_o possibility_n of_o salvation_n both_o to_o those_o common_o call_v heathen_n and_o to_o many_o among_o as_o to_o the_o natural_a man_n as_o none_o can_v deny_v but_o this_o principle_n be_v most_o agree_v to_o universal_a love_n so_o the_o practice_n of_o all_o even_o of_o those_o that_o deny_v it_o do_v evidence_n and_o show_v how_o agreeable_a it_o be_v as_o well_o to_o the_o love_n of_o god_n as_o to_o right_a reason_n where_o when_o ever_o any_o of_o the_o sect_n
they_o judge_v that_o the_o light_n of_o nature_n can_v carry_v they_o through_o to_o the_o end_n and_o accomplish_v the_o work_n or_o that_o they_o suppose_v the_o improve_n of_o it_o will_v procure_v any_o such_o miraculous_a revelation_n do_v not_o true_o preach_v or_o establish_v universal_a love_n because_o the_o same_o be_v not_o found_v upon_o the_o true_a love_n of_o god_n but_o be_v a_o exalt_v of_o the_o nature_n and_o reason_n of_o man_n which_o be_v real_o defile_v and_o proceed_v from_o self_n since_o these_o man_n for_o the_o most_o part_n do_v look_v upon_o grace_n or_o the_o operation_n of_o the_o spirit_n in_o the_o saint_n as_o but_o a_o mere_a fancy_n so_o i_o say_v these_o man_n do_v not_o commend_v the_o true_a love_n of_o god_n which_o be_v contrary_a to_o self_n but_o only_o their_o own_o corrupt_a nature_n and_o reason_n and_o do_v therefore_o real_o oppose_v and_o slight_v the_o universal_a love_n of_o god_n in_o that_o they_o suppose_v man_n capable_a of_o himself_o to_o save_v himself_o without_o christ_n the_o alone_a mediator_n in_o and_o by_o who_o the_o universal_a love_n of_o god_n to_o all_o be_v only_o extend_v for_o who_o ever_o god_n love_v he_o love_v they_o in_o christ_n and_o no_o other_o way_n and_o this_o love_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n can_v be_v true_o receive_v and_o entertain_v to_o the_o salvation_n of_o the_o soul_n but_o as_o the_o old_a man_n the_o first_o man_n with_o his_o deed_n which_o be_v altogether_o corrupt_v and_o can_v claim_v no_o share_n in_o man_n salvation_n be_v put_v off_o and_o do_v away_o and_o as_o the_o new_a man_n that_o proceed_v from_o a_o divine_a spiritual_a seed_n which_o be_v not_o of_o nor_o from_o man_n nature_n come_v to_o be_v bear_v and_o bring_v forth_o in_o the_o soul._n but_o much_o more_o do_v they_o contradict_v and_o declare_v themselves_o void_a of_o and_o stranger_n to_o the_o universal_a love_n who_o hold_v the_o precise_a decree_n of_o reprobation_n with_o the_o other_o principle_n depend_v thereupon_o in_o believe_v that_o the_o far_o great_a number_n not_o only_o of_o mankind_n but_o even_o of_o those_o that_o profess_v the_o name_n of_o christ_n be_v necessary_o damn_v and_o that_o by_o virtue_n of_o god_n absolute_a decree_n who_o from_o all_o eternity_n ordain_v to_o create_v they_o for_o that_o very_a end_n and_o appoint_v they_o to_o walk_v in_o such_o wickedness_n for_o which_o he_o may_v condemn_v they_o and_o punish_v they_o eternal_o so_o that_o not_o only_o such_o as_o be_v ignorant_a of_o the_o history_n of_o christ_n and_o of_o the_o scripture_n be_v certain_o damn_v but_o even_o most_o of_o those_o who_o have_v the_o benefit_n of_o this_o knowledge_n be_v notwithstanding_o damn_v also_o for_o not_o right_a use_v all_o calvinist_n general_o be_v can_v just_o pretend_v to_o universal_a love_n for_o see_v they_o limit_v the_o love_n of_o god_n to_o a_o small_a number_n make_v all_o the_o rest_n only_a object_n christendom_n by_o the_o presumptuous_a usurpation_n of_o they_o five_o this_o people_n do_v great_o commend_v and_o hold_v forth_o the_o universal_a love_n of_o god_n to_o all_o in_o deny_v the_o use_n of_o outward_a carnal_a thing_n which_o perish_v in_o the_o use_n such_o as_o wash_v or_o sprinkle_v with_o water_n or_o eat_v of_o bread_n and_o wine_n to_o be_v the_o seal_n of_o god_n covenant_n with_o man_n or_o to_o be_v the_o mean_n or_o channel_n by_o which_o grace_n and_o spiritual_a refreshment_n be_v minister_v to_o the_o soul_n for_o thereby_o they_o confine_v not_o god_n love_n in_o the_o communicate_v of_o his_o gift_n and_o grace_n to_o the_o application_n or_o not_o use_v of_o elementary_a thing_n which_o may_v be_v as_o true_o as_o to_o the_o matter_n of_o they_o perform_v by_o the_o most_o wicked_a and_o great_a hypocrite_n of_o the_o world_n as_o by_o the_o most_o godly_a and_o sincere_a as_o do_v the_o great_a part_n of_o the_o sect_n among_o christian_n who_o make_v such_o a_o noise_n of_o the_o sacrament_n and_o ordinance_n and_o do_v so_o quarrel_v and_o jangle_n about_o their_o matter_n and_o manner_n of_o performance_n but_o do_v affirm_v and_o believe_v that_o increase_n of_o grace_n and_o refreshment_n in_o and_o by_o the_o life_n of_o christ_n be_v convey_v unto_o the_o soul_n of_o all_o those_o that_o be_v faithful_a as_o this_o seed_n receive_v a_o place_n and_o grow_v up_o in_o their_o heart_n without_o these_o outward_a ceremony_n this_o can_v be_v perform_v but_o by_o such_o as_o be_v sincere_a and_o godly_a indeed_o for_o such_o can_v only_o be_v true_o faithful_a and_o wait_v in_o that_o place_n where_o grace_n and_o refreshment_n strength_n and_o power_n wisdom_n and_o courage_n patience_n and_o all_o other_o good_a gift_n be_v receive_v six_o these_o people_n do_v much_o establish_v universal_a love_n in_o that_o they_o affirm_v persecution_n of_o man_n for_o the_o matter_n of_o their_o conscience_n to_o be_v unchristian_a and_o unlawful_a believe_v that_o as_o god_n can_v only_o inform_v and_o enlighten_v the_o conscience_n so_o it_o be_v contrary_a to_o the_o universal_a love_n of_o god_n for_o man_n to_o seek_v to_o force_v and_o restrain_v it_o as_o have_v hitherto_o be_v sufficient_o show_v last_o they_o do_v very_o true_o and_o observable_o establish_v universal_a love_n in_o that_o they_o preach_v love_n to_o enemy_n and_o the_o necessity_n of_o bear_v and_o suffer_v injury_n without_o revenge_n hold_v it_o unlawful_a for_o christian_n to_o fight_v or_o use_v carnal_a weapon_n even_o to_o resist_v such_o as_o oppose_v they_o and_o wrongful_o prejudice_v they_o as_o this_o be_v most_o agreeable_a to_o the_o doctrine_n and_o practice_n of_o christ_n so_o be_v it_o to_o the_o foolish_o contradict_v himself_o if_o he_o pretend_v to_o love_v he_o and_o those_o that_o do_v not_o preach_v and_o practise_v love_n to_o enemy_n but_o that_o which_o be_v quite_o contrary_a can_v just_o pretend_v either_o to_o the_o doctrine_n or_o practice_n of_o universal_a love_n wherefore_o i_o desire_v the_o reader_n may_v make_v application_n hereof_o as_o to_o the_o several_a sect_n of_o christian_n and_o examine_v who_o principle_n and_o practice_n do_v most_o agree_v herewith_o and_o serious_o consider_v whether_o there_o be_v any_o entire_a unite_a body_n of_o christian_n except_o these_o here_o mention_v who_o do_v unanimous_o hold_v forth_o so_o many_o doctrine_n so_o direct_o establish_v and_o agree_v to_o true_a universal_a love_n write_v in_o aberdeen_n prison_n the_o first_o month_n 1677._o the_o end_n end_n which_o external_a agreement_n as_o well_o in_o doctrine_n as_o in_o the_o practice_n necessary_o follow_v thereupon_o become_v as_o one_o external_n
