what_o say_v they_o i_o labour_v true_o for_o my_o live_n and_o i_o thank_v god_n i_o be_o no_o thief_n nor_o murderer_n i_o trust_v i_o shall_v do_v well_o enough_o in_o the_o day_n of_o judgement_n so_o he_o think_v because_o he_o be_v not_o a_o outrageous_a sinner_n his_o other_o sin_n be_v but_o small_a petty_a sin_n &_o that_o god_n must_v needs_o forgive_v and_o so_o he_o flatter_v himself_o and_o because_o he_o see_v not_o the_o danger_n of_o his_o sin_n he_o never_o care_v to_o provide_v the_o remedy_n but_o alas_o it_o be_v far_o otherwise_o the_o punishment_n even_o of_o the_o least_o all_o the_o heart_n with_o all_o the_o mind_n with_o all_o the_o soul_n upon_o this_o condition_n in_o deed_n that_o we_o do_v all_o his_o commandment_n and_o never_o break_v one_o of_o they_o he_o put_v we_o in_o good_a assurance_n of_o everlasting_a life_n and_o sure_o he_o will_v not_o fail_v we_o if_o we_o perform_v all_o those_o covenant_n but_o if_o so_o be_v we_o break_v but_o one_o of_o whole_a law_n for_o god_n promise_v not_o life_n but_o to_o the_o performance_n of_o the_o whole_a our_o good_a deed_n will_v not_o serve_v we_o then_o to_o set_v against_o our_o evil_n for_o payment_n before_o god_n see_v one_o of_o our_o evil_a deed_n even_o the_o least_o which_o we_o do_v or_o think_v condemn_v we_o to_o hell_n we_o can_v not_o seek_v life_n then_o in_o our_o work_n because_o we_o be_v not_o able_a to_o perform_v all_o 20._o and_o never_o offend_v and_o that_o be_v that_o the_o apostle_n so_o often_o say_v that_o by_o the_o deed_n of_o the_o law_n 15._o no_o god_n command_v they_o to_o be_v do_v but_o here_o only_o i_o tell_v you_o out_o of_o the_o word_n of_o god_n that_o these_o and_o all_o the_o good_a deed_n that_o you_o do_v can_v serve_v for_o no_o part_n of_o the_o least_o recompense_n to_o god_n for_o one_o of_o your_o least_o sin_n for_o the_o least_o deserve_v everlasting_a death_n you_o see_v then_o it_o be_v a_o great_a matter_n to_o satisfy_v god_n they_o to_o bring_v in_o a_o company_n of_o good_a deed_n see_v our_o least_o evil_a deed_n have_v the_o threat_n of_o god_n everlasting_a curse_n that_o debt_n must_v be_v satisfy_v or_o else_o the_o lord_n our_o god_n will_v never_o be_v satisfy_v the_o lord_n will_v not_o accept_v our_o own_o forge_a debt_n but_o he_o will_v have_v the_o true_a debt_n answer_v this_o be_v a_o great_a matter_n and_o deep_o to_o be_v weigh_v good_a brethren_n that_o we_o may_v understande_v the_o depth_n of_o our_o salvation_n to_o be_v more_o weighty_a than_o it_o be_v general_o account_v this_o make_v man_n so_o careless_a of_o their_o salvation_n as_o common_a they_o be_v because_o they_o dream_v the_o price_n of_o sin_n to_o be_v so_o vile_a that_o a_o certain_a pine_a of_o the_o body_n will_v satisfy_v god_n for_o it_o or_o that_o a_o little_a holy-water_n will_v wash_v it_o away_o or_o certain_a deed_n do_v or_o certain_a prayer_n say_v will_v please_v god_n for_o it_o they_o do_v not_o way_n that_o the_o debt_n for_o sin_n be_v god_n curse_n and_o condemnation_n and_o sure_o now_o in_o these_o our_o day_n in_o the_o time_n of_o so_o great_a light_n of_o the_o gospel_n the_o people_n be_v marvellous_o ignorant_a of_o their_o salvation_n general_o they_o know_v no_o other_o way_n to_o be_v save_v but_o by_o their_o good_a deed_n and_o yet_o they_o be_v void_a of_o they_o too_o god_n know_v and_o hereof_o come_v that_o common_a say_n frame_v in_o the_o time_n of_o darkness_n and_o continue_v still_o among_o we_o that_o we_o must_v carry_v nothing_o with_o we_o but_o our_o good_a deed_n and_o our_o bad_a and_o where_o be_v christ_n jesus_n then_o 3._o if_o he_o be_v not_o in_o our_o heart_n we_o shall_v never_o come_v to_o life_n eternal_a if_o we_o have_v christ_n we_o have_v life_n and_o all_o if_o we_o have_v not_o christ_n all_o our_o good_a deed_n and_o bad_a deed_n we_o carry_v with_o we_o shall_v nothing_o avail_v we_o but_o throw_v most_o senseless_a security_n and_o wilful_a wretchedness_n and_o blockishness_n we_o flatter_v and_o soothe_v up_o yourselves_o with_o the_o mercy_n of_o god_n and_o because_o we_o hear_v that_o the_o lord_n god_n be_v merciful_a we_o sleep_v in_o the_o matter_n &_o never_o go_v about_o to_o see_v his_o justice_n answer_v but_o content_v ourselves_o with_o these_o vain_a gloss_n that_o he_o be_v a_o merciful_a god_n and_o therefore_o we_o will_v never_o trouble_v ourselves_o about_o the_o matter_n to_o see_v our_o sin_n answer_v for_o why_o god_n be_v merciful_a we_o shall_v do_v well_o enough_o with_o he_o yea_o but_o be_v not_o god_n also_o a_o just_a god_n 4._o be_v he_o not_o also_o a_o true_a god_n be_v he_o not_o a_o hater_n of_o sin_n 33._o be_v he_o not_o a_o sincere_a and_o grievous_a punisher_n of_o sin_n will_v thou_o make_v the_o lord_n so_o merciful_a a_o god_n that_o he_o shall_v not_o be_v also_o just_a will_v thou_o make_v he_o so_o merciful_a that_o he_o shall_v creature_n as_o well_o as_o upon_o his_o own_o child_n but_o they_o like_o carnal_a swine_v do_v abuse_v they_o every_o one_o of_o they_o they_o will_v not_o give_v their_o ear_n to_o hear_v the_o word_n of_o life_n they_o will_v not_o give_v their_o heart_n to_o take_v pleasure_n in_o it_o they_o will_v not_o use_v their_o foot_n to_o seek_v after_o life_n they_o cast_v of_o all_o these_o heavenly_a mercy_n of_o god_n and_o abuse_v god_n benefit_n to_o devilish_a use_n there_o ear_n be_v open_a to_o hear_v wickedness_n vanity_n and_o filthiness_n their_o tongue_n loose_a to_o speak_v lie_n abomination_n and_o naughtiness_n their_o foot_n swift_a to_o shed_v innocent_a blood_n and_o all_o other_o the_o great_a mercy_n of_o god_n do_v they_o horrible_o abuse_v to_o their_o utter_a condemnation_n so_o that_o they_o can_v have_v no_o just_a cause_n to_o wrangle_v against_o god_n but_o must_v needs_o acknowledge_v their_o condemnation_n to_o be_v most_o just_a have_v taste_v so_o many_o of_o god_n mercy_n and_o utter_o abuse_v they_o so_o then_o this_o their_o wrangle_a shift_n of_o god_n mercy_n will_v help_v they_o not_o a_o whit_n in_o that_o day_n of_o judgement_n but_o these_o speech_n god_n be_v merciful_a god_n be_v merciful_a and_o therefore_o will_v forgive_v we_o our_o sin_n but_o also_o let_v we_o acknowledge_v that_o god_n be_v just_a and_o true_a and_o only_o like_o grammar_n scholar_n have_v it_o by_o heart_n but_o like_o christ_n scholar_n have_v the_o feel_n and_o love_n of_o it_o in_o our_o heart_n not_o only_o by_o rote_n like_o child_n say_v it_o with_o our_o mouth_n but_o like_o god_n child_n practise_v it_o in_o our_o deed_n and_o herein_o good_a lord_n how_o small_o have_v we_o profit_v this_o xv_o year_n learn_v the_o practice_n of_o this_o lesson_n in_o christ_n school_n or_o if_o we_o have_v learn_v it_o how_o soon_o have_v we_o forget_v it_o or_o if_o we_o have_v both_o know_v it_o and_o thought_n upon_o it_o in_o what_o case_n be_v we_o that_o so_o general_o have_v use_v continual_o against_o our_o own_o conscience_n &_o knowledge_n to_o do_v contrary_a unto_o it_o well_o for_o that_o which_o be_v pass_v let_v we_o repent_v and_o now_o in_o the_o fear_n of_o god_n let_v we_o begin_v more_o deep_o to_o consider_v the_o thing_n especial_o see_v the_o dear_a son_n of_o god_n exhort_v we_o thereunto_o and_o say_v i_o give_v you_o a_o new_a commandment_n that_o you_o love_v one_o a_o other_o if_o a_o prince_n or_o any_o noble_a personage_n speak_v unto_o we_o exhort_v we_o to_o any_o good_a thing_n we_o use_v to_o give_v attentive_a care_n and_o for_o the_o authority_n of_o the_o person_n the_o word_n have_v credit_n with_o we_o that_o we_o dare_v not_o do_v contrary_a thereunto_o for_o fear_n of_o lose_v their_o we_o who_o majesty_n we_o dare_v so_o bold_o abuse_v if_o it_o be_v high_a treason_n to_o cast_v off_o the_o word_n of_o a_o prince_n &_o make_v no_o account_n of_o they_o what_o shall_v we_o say_v of_o the_o reject_v the_o word_n of_o this_o our_o heavenly_a prince_n and_o saviour_n you_o see_v then_o it_o stand_v we_o in_o hand_n diligent_o to_o hear_v prudent_o to_o mark_v and_o deep_o to_o weigh_v these_o word_n which_o here_o be_v speak_v for_o they_o be_v the_o word_n of_o the_o lord_n jesus_n who_o of_o his_o unspeakable_a love_n have_v give_v himself_o for_o us._n and_o yet_o further_o than_o this_o if_o we_o consider_v the_o circumstance_n of_o the_o time_n when_o these_o word_n be_v speak_v it_o will_v make_v we_o yet_o a_o little_a more_o careful_a to_o think_v upon_o they_o it_o be_v at_o such_o time_n as_o he_o be_v now_o near_o his_o death_n for_o in_o the_o verse_n go_v
before_o he_o tell_v they_o he_o be_v go_v from_o they_o these_o word_n be_v utter_v then_o by_o our_o saviour_n christ_n when_o he_o be_v go_v to_o his_o death_n as_o a_o thing_n special_o to_o be_v mark_v of_o we_o &_o which_o he_o know_v to_o be_v most_o needful_a for_o we_o and_o therefore_o of_o we_o more_o to_o be_v consider_v and_o mark_v yea_o and_o never_o to_o be_v forget_v but_o always_o deep_o imprint_v in_o our_o mind_n you_o know_v those_o thing_n that_o be_v speak_v of_o man_n lie_v upon_o their_o death_n bed_n use_n to_o pierce_v much_o that_o common_o the_o word_n be_v never_o forget_v but_o still_o almost_o as_o fresh_a in_o memory_n as_o when_o they_o be_v new_a speak_v those_o word_n which_o be_v speak_v by_o a_o love_a father_n upon_o his_o death_n bed_n unto_o his_o child_n take_v great_a effect_n in_o a_o good_a child_n if_o a_o tender_a father_n at_o the_o point_n of_o death_n do_v call_v his_o son_n unto_o he_o and_o utter_v these_o or_o such_o like_a word_n oh_o son_n thou_o seee_v in_o what_o case_n i_o be_o i_o be_o even_o now_o ready_a to_o go_v from_o thou_o these_o be_v the_o last_o word_n that_o i_o shall_v speak_v unto_o thou_o remember_v dead_a even_o so_o in_o like_a manner_n will_v these_o word_n of_o our_o saviour_n christ_n speak_v at_o his_o death_n pierce_v the_o heart_n of_o any_o of_o the_o child_n of_o god_n unless_o they_o be_v bastard_n and_o no_o son_n we_o can_v not_o if_o we_o love_v the_o lord_n jesus_n but_o remember_v this_o his_o last_o lesson_n which_o he_o give_v we_o for_o his_o farewell_n and_o i_o be_o sure_a unto_o the_o child_n of_o god_n it_o pierce_v a_o thousand_o time_n more_o their_o tender_a heart_n to_o hear_v they_o so_o love_o teach_v of_o their_o love_a lord_n than_o any_o other_o rough_a manner_n of_o deal_v because_o they_o be_v child_n and_o not_o slave_n and_o therefore_o serve_v of_o love_n and_o not_o of_o slavish_a fear_n although_o it_o be_v sometime_o needful_a for_o the_o best_a of_o they_o to_o feel_v of_o the_o love_a correction_n of_o their_o love_a father_n for_o the_o tame_n of_o their_o wild_a flesh_n but_o because_o in_o the_o house_n of_o god_n all_o be_v not_o child_n which_o have_v the_o outward_a countenance_n of_o child_n but_o there_o be_v a_o great_a company_n of_o dissemble_a hypocrite_n which_o take_v the_o liberty_n of_o the_o gospel_n to_o live_v after_o the_o flesh_n &_o do_v nothing_o but_o only_o make_v a_o mock_n of_o all_o love_a kind_n of_o deal_v &_o laugh_v in_o their_o sleeve_n when_o they_o hear_v any_o such_o exhortation_n because_o they_o will_v not_o be_v teach_v by_o fair_a mean_n and_o as_o you_o will_v say_v by_o manner_n of_o entreaty_n therefore_o the_o lord_n jesus_n for_o their_o cause_n especial_o deal_v after_o a_o other_o sort_n here_o in_o this_o sentence_n and_o call_v this_o same_o his_o admonition_n to_o love_v not_o only_o a_o friendly_a exhortation_n as_o by_o way_n of_o request_n but_o also_o a_o commandment_n not_o only_o a_o matter_n of_o entreaty_n forsooth_o to_o do_v or_o not_o to_o do_v as_o best_o like_v we_o but_o a_o special_a commandment_n to_o be_v do_v whether_o we_o will_v or_o no_o whether_o we_o like_v it_o or_o not_o like_o it_o unless_o we_o will_v abide_v the_o penalty_n of_o disobedience_n and_o herein_o then_o he_o deal_v with_o we_o not_o only_o as_o a_o love_a friend_n to_o exhort_v but_o also_o as_o a_o prince_n of_o authority_n to_o command_v that_o if_o we_o shall_v violent_o cast_v off_o from_o we_o all_o kind_n of_o friendly_a admonition_n here_o and_o think_v we_o have_v escape_v well_o because_o we_o have_v break_v in_o sunder_o all_o the_o fast_a bond_n of_o love_a exhortation_n we_o shall_v yet_o understand_v he_o be_v our_o prince_n that_o have_v his_o judgement_n seat_n to_o arrayne_a we_o there_o to_o answer_v the_o breach_n of_o his_o bless_a commandment_n and_o that_o we_o shall_v not_o think_v or_o say_v oh_o i_o will_v indeed_o love_v my_o brethren_n but_o it_o be_v at_o leisure_n when_o i_o see_v my_o time_n and_o when_o i_o think_v best_a but_o rather_o think_v because_o it_o be_v command_v we_o we_o must_v do_v it_o whether_o we_o will_v or_o no_o not_o at_o our_o pleasure_n but_o at_o the_o pleasure_n of_o the_o commander_n unless_o we_o be_v guilty_a of_o his_o curse_n in_o his_o judgement_n seat_n so_o than_o you_o see_v what_o we_o have_v to_o mark_v in_o this_o where_o the_o lord_n jesus_n do_v not_o only_o exhort_v but_o command_v we_o to_o love_v one_o a_o other_o that_o be_v that_o we_o not_o only_o have_v a_o cold_a affection_n thereunto_o but_o that_o we_o be_v lively_o touch_v with_o the_o authority_n of_o the_o commander_n set_v before_o our_o eye_n his_o princely_a judgement_n seat_n where_o he_o will_v bring_v in_o trial_n all_o stubborn_a breach_n of_o his_o bless_a commandment_n although_o they_o be_v never_o so_o smooth_o pass_v over_o in_o this_o life_n you_o see_v then_o this_o have_v or_o at_o least_o wise_a aught_o to_o have_v a_o wonderful_a weighty_a force_n with_o it_o where_o the_o lord_n jesus_n fall_v a_o command_a and_o therefore_o ought_v of_o we_o deep_o to_o be_v consider_v and_o not_o cold_o for_o fashion_v embrace_v because_o it_o be_v the_o lord_n jesus_n that_o not_o only_o will_v but_o command_v it_o but_o alas_o it_o be_v a_o wonderful_a thing_n to_o see_v the_o authority_n of_o the_o lord_n jesus_n so_o small_o regard_v among_o we_o if_o once_o the_o will_n of_o a_o prince_n be_v but_o know_v it_o be_v a_o wonder_n to_o see_v how_o ready_o we_o be_v to_o frame_v ourselves_o thereunto_o but_o if_o he_o fall_v a_o command_a who_o do_v not_o then_o tremble_v at_o his_o displeasure_n but_o the_o lord_n jesus_n may_v entreat_v pray_v and_o beseech_v nay_o straight_o charge_n and_o command_v and_o for_o all_o that_o not_o regard_v of_o a_o straw_n it_o declare_v certain_o good_a brethren_n that_o there_o be_v no_o fear_n of_o god_n among_o we_o but_o only_o a_o certain_a worldly_a fear_n of_o man_n and_o yet_o the_o one_o kill_v the_o body_n alone_o 28._o the_o other_o throw_v both_o soul_n and_o body_n into_o hell_n fire_n eternal_a oh_o good_a brethren_n let_v we_o not_o deceive_v ourselves_o it_o be_v the_o lord_n jesus_n that_o command_v we_o let_v we_o obey_v he_o charge_v we_o to_o love_v one_o a_o other_o let_v it_o be_v do_v not_o only_o say_v but_o do_v do_v do_v let_v we_o earnest_o repent_v that_o we_o have_v be_v so_o slack_a in_o do_v this_o commandment_n for_o our_o saviour_n hitherto_o that_o we_o have_v do_v nothing_o but_o only_o make_v a_o mock_n of_o it_o oh_o it_o be_v his_o mercy_n that_o have_v save_v we_o hitherto_o and_o have_v not_o throw_v we_o down_o to_o hell_n as_o we_o have_v deserve_v but_o in_o mercy_n have_v keep_v we_o till_o this_o day_n let_v we_o now_o from_o henceforth_o think_v earnest_o upon_o this_o commandment_n of_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n and_o now_o begin_v to_o practice_v it_o that_o there_o may_v be_v love_n among_o we_o and_o not_o such_o brabble_a brawl_a and_o contention_n as_o we_o see_v daily_o and_o be_v too_o lamentable_a but_o like_a to_o good_a scholar_n in_o the_o school_n of_o the_o lord_n jesus_n let_v we_o have_v love_n and_o peace_n among_o we_o and_o sure_o than_o he_o will_v dwell_v among_o we_o and_o protect_v we_o for_o ever_o now_o it_o be_v say_v in_o the_o text_n that_o this_o commandment_n
that_o which_o we_o can_v not_o great_o conceive_v of_o ourselves_o and_o every_o thing_n shall_v be_v unspeakable_a for_o no_o doubt_n those_o man_n that_o we_o speak_v of_o before_o even_o at_o those_o time_n when_o they_o can_v not_o tell_v what_o and_o how_o to_o pray_v as_o of_o themselves_o yet_o the_o spirit_n help_v they_o they_o do_v pray_v and_o there_o be_v at_o least_o lord_n know_v the_o way_n of_o the_o righteous_a for_o he_o hear_v the_o cry_n of_o the_o israelite_n when_o they_o do_v but_o sigh_n &_o moan_n &_o deliver_v they_o from_o the_o bondage_n he_o hear_v hezekiah_n chatter_v in_o his_o prayer_n &_o raise_v he_o up_o from_o death_n &_o add_v 15._o year_n more_o to_o his_o life_n he_o hear_v david_n roar_v for_o the_o extremity_n of_o his_o pain_n and_o and_o well_o order_v prayer_n yea_o when_o we_o have_v rather_o sigh_v then_o speak_v for_o the_o lord_n in_o this_o case_n regard_v not_o so_o much_o the_o multitude_n of_o word_n as_o he_o look_v to_o the_o meaning_n of_o his_o spirit_n and_o grant_v that_o though_o we_o speak_v never_o a_o word_n for_o even_o as_o a_o father_n have_v a_o young_a infant_n sick_a of_o some_o sore_a disease_n though_o the_o child_n can_v speak_v never_o a_o word_n be_v ready_a to_o help_v it_o and_o if_o it_o can_v speak_v yet_o be_v full_a of_o pain_n can_v not_o call_v for_o thing_n as_o it_o ought_v yet_o if_o the_o mother_n can_v but_o by_o any_o sign_n guess_v at_o the_o meaning_n of_o it_o she_o will_v accept_v as_o much_o of_o it_o as_o if_o it_o have_v speak_v very_o plentiful_o yea_o though_o it_o shall_v say_v one_o thing_n and_o mean_v another_o she_o will_v give_v it_o according_a to_o the_o meaning_n of_o it_o so_o the_o lord_n that_o be_v fill_v with_o the_o bowel_n of_o compassion_n towards_o we_o in_o christ_n far_o above_o any_o father_n or_o mother_n though_o he_o delight_v to_o hear_v we_o pray_v unto_o he_o yet_o when_o as_o by_o the_o extremity_n of_o our_o misery_n we_o be_v oppress_v or_o distract_v so_o that_o we_o can_v not_o in_o any_o orderly_a manner_n pray_v unto_o he_o as_o we_o ought_v he_o allow_v of_o the_o sigh_n and_o sob_n that_o we_o offer_v up_o unto_o he_o and_o grant_v not_o so_o much_o our_o word_n which_o be_v none_o or_o few_o as_o the_o meaning_n of_o his_o spirit_n which_o be_v plentiful_a in_o us._n hereupon_o it_o come_v his_o servant_n and_o have_v respect_n unto_o poor_a sinful_a creature_n who_o when_o they_o be_v in_o their_o just_a deserve_a misery_n and_o even_o then_o can_v pray_v unto_o he_o one_o word_n
