we_o if_o we_o will_v receive_v good_a from_o the_o lord_n but_o how_o shall_v it_o be_v make_v manifest_a whether_o a_o man_n willingness_n be_v settle_v or_o overt_a well_o ground_v or_o shallow_a but_o from_o gracious_a acceptation_n of_o they_o in_o that_o blood_n by_o dip_v wherein_o the_o spot_n of_o they_o be_v do_v away_o for_o there_o be_v i_o think_v none_o of_o we_o which_o deny_v but_o that_o god_n accept_v our_o work_n as_o perfect_v in_o christ_n do_v reward_v we_o for_o they_o as_o if_o they_o be_v perfect_a but_o see_v the_o reward_n become_v due_a in_o christ_n and_o not_o by_o the_o work_v themselves_o we_o think_v it_o a_o foolish_a pride_n to_o maintain_v the_o stately_a name_n of_o merit_n of_o work_n when_o we_o be_v fain_o to_o beg_v the_o reward_n for_o another_o sake_n and_o can_v challenge_v it_o simple_o for_o the_o work_v sake_n thus_o this_o truth_n enforce_v they_o after_o much_o turn_n and_o wind_v in_o effect_n to_o confess_v it_o though_o the_o truth_n be_v they_o will_v not_o have_v it_o seem_v so_o for_o fear_v of_o a_o sore_a loss_n that_o may_v follow_v thence_o unto_o their_o clergy_n kitchen_n and_o manger_n i_o mean_v their_o live_n and_o pomp_n but_o let_v they_o pass_v there_o be_v a_o second_o error_n of_o heretic_n puritan_n 2._o of_o perfection_n of_o holiness_n in_o this_o life_n dream_v of_o by_o the_o ancient_a puritan_n so_o they_o may_v well_o be_v call_v no_o less_o dangerous_a yea_o very_o i_o suppose_v much_o more_o dangerous_a than_o the_o former_a of_o old_a condemn_v under_o the_o name_n of_o puritan_n from_o a_o conceit_a and_o imaginary_a purity_n or_o absolute_a freedom_n from_o all_o sin_n whereof_o they_o boast_v and_o now_o as_o the_o speech_n go_v reviue_v in_o some_o part_n of_o please_v to_o seed_v themselves_o and_o their_o seduce_a follower_n now_o it_o be_v most_o certain_a that_o these_o man_n be_v the_o most_o abominable_a and_o dissemble_a hypocrite_n in_o all_o the_o world_n or_o else_o the_o most_o besotted_a and_o benumb_a spirit_n for_o their_o own_o whole_a carriage_n and_o continual_a experience_n do_v confute_v they_o even_o to_o themselves_o and_o yet_o they_o will_v not_o see_v themselves_o confute_v if_o ever_o any_o of_o you_o meet_v with_o any_o foolish_a hypocrite_n offer_v to_o tell_v you_o a_o tale_n of_o such_o perfection_n that_o he_o hope_v to_o get_v or_o that_o he_o have_v get_v or_o that_o may_v be_v get_v by_o any_o in_o this_o life_n as_o never_o to_o sin_v any_o more_o never_o any_o more_o to_o need_v repentance_n do_v no_o more_o and_o for_o which_o if_o for_o any_o thing_n to_o be_v weary_a of_o life_n also_o as_o of_o a_o burden_n which_o you_o long_v to_o be_v remove_v from_o off_o your_o shoulder_n have_v thou_o not_o pride_n passion_n worldliness_n ambition_n lust_n envy_n vainglory_n blindness_n hollowness_n deadness_n of_o heart_n and_o a_o thousand_o more_o beside_o these_o corruption_n within_o thou_o which_o fellow_n the_o stubbornness_n of_o a_o child_n the_o meanness_n of_o thy_o estate_n the_o falseness_n of_o thy_o friend_n the_o power_n and_o fury_n of_o thy_o enemy_n or_o any_o other_o cross_n if_o any_o be_v worse_o than_o these_o ah_o we_o have_v not_o sufficient_o inform_v ourselves_o of_o the_o loathsomnesse_n of_o sin_n neither_o be_v we_o sufficient_o heavy_a lade_v with_o the_o sense_n thereof_o if_o the_o cumbersomnesse_n of_o this_o do_v not_o cause_v we_o even_o in_o the_o time_n of_o our_o great_a immunity_n from_o other_o misery_n to_o covet_v our_o departure_n hence_o if_o sickness_n make_v man_n cry_v for_o death_n because_o they_o be_v terrible_a to_o the_o body_n how_o shall_v not_o the_o sickness_n of_o the_o soul_n make_v we_o much_o rather_o to_o seek_v for_o it_o i_o shall_v have_v sleep_v then_o have_v i_o be_v at_o rest_n he_o can_v in_o elegancy_n of_o speech_n commend_v death_n and_o say_v there_o the_o wicked_a cease_v from_o trouble_v and_o there_o the_o weary_a be_v at_o rest_n there_o the_o prisoner_n rest_v together_o and_o hear_v not_o the_o voice_n of_o the_o oppressor_n yea_o he_o say_v that_o a_o miserable_a man_n will_v long_o for_o it_o and_o dig_v for_o it_o more_o than_o for_o hide_a treasure_n and_o will_v rejoice_v exceed_o and_o be_v glad_a if_o he_o can_v find_v it_o this_o impatiency_n of_o life_n be_v no_o way_n worthy_a commendation_n it_o savour_v too_o much_o of_o self_n love_n to_o be_v good_a and_o allowable_a but_o if_o out_o of_o a_o holy_a impatiency_n of_o sin_n we_o can_v as_o feel_o take_v up_o speech_n of_o a_o like_a nature_n o_o how_o true_o may_v it_o witness_v with_o we_o that_o we_o do_v hate_v sin_n that_o we_o be_v enemy_n to_o the_o lust_n of_o our_o heart_n that_o our_o corruption_n be_v to_o we_o as_o imprisonment_n sickness_n pain_n captivity_n and_o so_o that_o we_o be_v sure_a of_o our_o part_n in_o christ_n goodness_n who_o come_v to_o preach_v liberty_n unto_o the_o captive_n very_o our_o soul_n be_v as_o full_a of_o hotche_n many_o of_o they_o as_o job_n body_n and_o it_o will_v hardly_o be_v better_o with_o many_o of_o we_o so_o long_o as_o we_o abide_v in_o these_o earthly_a tabernacle_n be_v we_o as_o full_a of_o spiritual_a life_n as_o he_o of_o natural_a and_o our_o soul_n as_o true_o endue_v with_o holiness_n as_o his_o body_n with_o sense_n we_o shall_v complain_v of_o this_o burden_n with_o much_o bitterness_n and_o say_v o_o that_o i_o can_v tell_v where_o to_o seek_v death_n o_o that_o i_o may_v find_v the_o grave_n and_o come_v to_o those_o earth_n then_o in_o a_o bed_n of_o down_o and_o every_o man_n will_v be_v of_o salomon_n mind_n and_o count_v the_o day_n of_o death_n better_o than_o the_o day_n of_o birth_n i_o confess_v that_o we_o must_v so_o far_o resign_v our_o will_n to_o god_n will_v as_o with_o all_o contentedness_n of_o mind_n to_o wear_v out_o the_o day_n of_o our_o apprenticeship_n and_o pilgrimage_n for_o so_o long_o as_o god_n have_v any_o service_n for_o we_o to_o do_v any_o where_o though_o the_o place_n and_o company_n be_v full_a of_o troublesomnesse_n yet_o shall_v we_o force_v our_o will_n to_o do_v he_o service_n with_o our_o own_o disquietment_n but_o yet_o a_o virtuous_a desire_n of_o be_v separate_v from_o this_o unhappy_a condition_n of_o life_n wherein_o we_o shall_v never_o full_o be_v separate_v from_o the_o sin_n that_o cleave_v so_o fast_o will_v be_v very_o commendable_a and_o very_o profitable_a the_o gaud_n of_o this_o world_n will_v not_o so_o easy_o beguile_v we_o the_o cumber_n of_o this_o world_n will_v not_o so_o fret_o gall_n we_o if_o we_o do_v dis-sweeten_a the_o one_o with_o make_v ourselves_o to_o taste_v the_o bitterness_n of_o our_o sin_n and_o dis-imbit_a the_o other_o with_o feel_v the_o far_o great_a bitterness_n of_o that_o which_o be_v as_o far_o more_o harmful_a than_o it_o as_o lead_v be_v heavy_a than_o cork_n then_o shall_v we_o prove_v ourselves_o to_o be_v man_n and_o woman_n of_o a_o discern_a spirit_n that_o can_v know_v of_o thing_n what_o be_v good_a what_o be_v bad_a and_o of_o bad_a thing_n what_o be_v more_o what_o be_v less_o bad_a then_o shall_v we_o show_v ourselves_o to_o approach_v near_o that_o height_n of_o grace_n which_o the_o bless_a apostle_n have_v who_o in_o relate_v of_o bond_n imprisonment_n hunger_n thirst_n nakedness_n whip_v stocking_n shipwreck_n and_o daily_o die_v never_o burst_v forth_o into_o lamentation_n but_o rather_o recount_v with_o joy_n that_o which_o be_v so_o painful_a to_o suffer_v and_o seem_v to_o be_v glad_a of_o life_n for_o nothing_o else_o but_o that_o by_o suffer_v more_o of_o those_o trouble_n he_o may_v do_v more_o service_n to_o the_o church_n and_o honour_n to_o christ_n but_o when_o he_o have_v occasion_n to_o declare_v his_o sinfulness_n the_o body_n of_o death_n the_o law_n of_o his_o member_n the_o rebellion_n of_o his_o flesh_n then_o only_o be_v hear_v bewail_v and_o cry_v out_o o_o miserable_a man_n that_o i_o be_o who_o shall_v deliver_v i_o from_o this_o body_n let_v therefore_o the_o feel_n of_o sin_n make_v our_o desire_n so_o earnest_a after_o full_a freedom_n from_o it_o that_o we_o may_v for_o this_o cause_n even_o breathe_v after_o death_n when_o there_o be_v none_o other_o adversity_n to_o distaste_v the_o comfort_n of_o this_o from_o husband_n and_o wife_n from_o child_n from_o friend_n from_o land_n and_o good_n and_o from_o this_o world_n and_o all_o that_o in_o this_o world_n be_v count_v worth_n have_v so_o that_o i_o may_v also_o be_v part_v from_o my_o corruption_n and_o never_o more_o hereafter_o stand_v in_o need_n of_o prune_v fast_v and_o prayer_n will_v purge_v the_o word_n and_o sacrament_n will_v cleanse_v and_o all_o god_n ordinance_n and_o all_o our_o christian_a endeavour_n will_v help_v to_o lop_v off_o these_o disorder_a passion_n that_o be_v within_o us._n but_o this_o be_v alone_o a_o cleanse_n in_o part_n a_o pare_n off_o some_o evil_n and_o leave_v much_o behind_o only_o the_o last_o blow_n of_o death_n will_v make_v a_o full_a riddance_n of_o all_o that_o be_v evil_a in_o we_o and_o of_o our_o disease_a soul_n which_o till_o then_o shall_v never_o be_v deliver_v from_o all_o disease_n though_o we_o be_v in_o christ_n as_o the_o vine_n and_o have_v god_n the_o father_n for_o our_o all_o thing_n earthly_a when_o the_o will_v most_o vehement_o and_o earnest_o incline_v itself_o to_o god_n the_o chief_a good_a and_o careful_o withdraw_v itself_o from_o feign_a or_o inferior_a good_a thing_n when_o the_o affection_n be_v inflame_v towards_o god_n and_o heaven_n and_o cool_v towards_o earth_n and_o the_o thing_n of_o the_o earth_n this_o be_v a_o sweet_a and_o happy_a constitution_n of_o the_o soul_n and_o if_o this_o constitution_n be_v not_o preserve_v by_o a_o diligent_a watch_v over_o the_o move_a and_o work_v of_o our_o mind_n and_o a_o daily_o strive_v to_o pull_v they_o from_o thing_n below_o and_o set_v they_o on_o thing_n above_o there_o be_v no_o possibility_n of_o grow_v but_o if_o this_o constitution_n be_v careful_o preserve_v the_o mean_n follow_v will_v infallible_o procure_v a_o proceed_n in_o all_o the_o fruit_n of_o good_a live_n and_o the_o second_o thing_n require_v appetite_n 2._o to_o keep_v a_o good_a appetite_n be_v to_o keep_v a_o good_a stomach_n or_o appetite_n that_o be_v a_o continual_a desire_n of_o more_o grace_n feel_v its_o want_n and_o long_v for_o a_o supply_n we_o must_v tell_v ourselves_o often_o how_o far_o short_a we_o come_v of_o that_o we_o may_v attain_v and_o other_o have_v attain_v and_o we_o must_v earnest_o provoke_v ourselves_o to_o desire_v a_o supply_n of_o what_o we_o feel_v ourselves_o to_o want_v we_o shall_v often_o say_v to_o ourselves_o alack_o how_o poor_a a_o quantity_n of_o faith_n patience_n hope_v charity_n temperance_n heavenly-mindednesse_a have_v i_o get_v how_o slender_a be_v all_o grace_n in_o i_o if_o i_o compare_v myself_o with_o those_o of_o god_n saint_n who_o example_n be_v commend_v in_o scripture_n for_o my_o imitation_n i_o come_v so_o short_a of_o little_a zeal_n of_o god_n glory_n in_o comparison_n of_o david_n what_o little_a patience_n to_o bear_v affliction_n for_o christ_n sake_n in_o comparison_n of_o paul_n what_o little_a faith_n in_o god_n promise_n in_o comparison_n of_o their_o faith_n that_o the_o apostle_n to_o the_o hebrew_n commend_v to_o i_o o_o how_o far_o do_v job_n surpass_v i_o in_o patience_n in_o bounty_n in_o religiousnesse_n in_o the_o fear_n of_o god_n how_o far_o do_v nehemiah_n go_v beyond_o i_o in_o love_n to_o the_o church_n and_o people_n of_o god_n and_o zealous_a desire_n of_o promote_a the_o worship_n of_o god_n so_o weigh_v thyself_o in_o the_o balance_n against_o the_o godly_a man_n which_o be_v famous_a in_o holy_a writ_n and_o see_v how_o much_o thou_o want_v of_o what_o they_o have_v get_v and_o yet_o that_o which_o they_o have_v come_v far_o short_a of_o what_o they_o shall_v have_v have_v than_o what_o thou_o have_v do_v come_v short_a of_o what_o they_o have_v then_o move_v thy_o desire_n to_o a_o increase_n and_o think_v thus_o ah_o that_o i_o can_v get_v at_o least_o a_o little_a more_o grace_n ah_o that_o my_o grain_n of_o faith_n be_v make_v two_o grain_n ah_o that_o my_o one_o talon_n be_v make_v two_o talent_n my_o two_o five_o what_o may_v i_o do_v to_o get_v more_o grace_n what_o course_n may_v i_o take_v to_o fill_v up_o that_o which_o be_v want_v to_o my_o faith_n patience_n temperance_n confidence_n and_o other_o like_a virtue_n to_o whet_v a_o man_n appetite_n in_o this_o manner_n and_o to_o sharpen_v his_o desire_n towards_o virtue_n do_v exceed_o help_v to_o make_v he_o capable_a of_o they_o and_o be_v as_o one_o may_v term_v it_o a_o great_a inducement_n to_o the_o lord_n to_o bestow_v more_o upon_o he_o for_o the_o lord_n as_o once_o job_n do_v love_n to_o feed_v the_o hungry_a and_o to_o give_v drink_n unto_o they_o that_o thirst_n
