be_v a_o royal_a priesthood_n it_o be_v as_o much_o as_o if_o he_o shall_v say_v you_o be_v christian_n if_o thou_o will_v know_v what_o title_n what_o power_n prerogative_n and_o glory_n true_a christian_n have_v thou_o see_v that_o they_o be_v king_n priest_n and_o a_o choose_a people_n now_o what_o this_o priesthood_n be_v do_v here_o straightway_o ensue_v that_o you_o shall_v show_v forth_o the_o virtue_n of_o he_o that_o have_v call_v you_o out_o of_o darkness_n into_o his_o marvellous_a light_n this_o office_n especial_o appertain_v unto_o the_o priest_n that_o he_o shall_v be_v the_o ambassador_n or_o messenger_n of_o god_n and_o according_a to_o that_o commission_n which_o he_o have_v from_o god_n sincere_o preach_v and_o declare_v his_o worde_n the_o virtue_n say_v yet_o be_v it_o not_o able_a to_o see_v what_o faith_n be_v here_o be_v it_o altogether_o blind_a insomuche_o that_o if_o all_o the_o wisdom_n of_o all_o man_n in_o the_o world_n be_v gather_v and_o incorporate_v into_o one_o yet_o be_v it_o not_o able_a to_o comprehend_v or_o reach_v so_o much_o as_o unto_o one_o letter_n of_o the_o wisdom_n of_o god_n wherefore_o s._n peter_n here_o speak_v of_o a_o other_o light_n and_o that_o a_o marvellous_a light_n and_o flat_o also_o tell_v every_o one_o of_o we_o that_o we_o grope_v in_o darkness_n and_o utter_a blindness_n if_o god_n do_v not_o call_v we_o into_o his_o true_a light_n experience_n also_o teach_v we_o the_o same_o thing_n for_o when_o we_o hear_v it_o preach_v that_o by_o our_o work_n we_o can_v not_o obtain_v any_o thing_n knowledge_n to_o teach_v it_o to_o understande_v the_o same_o therefore_o whatsoever_o be_v not_o the_o worde_n of_o god_n and_o faith_n the_o same_o be_v nothing_o else_o then_o blind_a darkness_n for_o without_o these_o two_o the_o worde_n of_o god_n i_o mean_v and_o faith_n reason_n iumble_v at_o random_n and_o groap_v after_o his_o way_n like_o a_o blind_a man_n in_o the_o dark_a catching_n hold_v first_o of_o one_o thing_n and_o then_o of_o a_o other_o and_o never_o know_v what_o it_o shall_v do_v but_o when_o these_o thing_n be_v tell_v to_o the_o great_a learned_a and_o wise_a man_n of_o this_o world_n they_o can_v not_o abide_v to_o hear_v it_o they_o stamp_v and_o stare_v they_o fret_v fume_n and_o merueilous_o rage_n at_o it_o and_o therefore_o s._n peter_n show_v himself_o and_o office_n of_o minister_n of_o the_o worde_n to_o feed_v the_o congregation_n by_o preach_v and_o to_o administer_v the_o sacrament_n and_o yet_o nevertheless_o we_o be_v all_o priest_n as_o many_o of_o we_o as_o be_v christian_n for_o see_v that_o we_o be_v found_v and_o couch_v upon_o that_o stone_n which_o be_v the_o high_a priest_n before_o god_n we_o also_o must_v needs_o be_v priest_n also_o for_o that_o whatsoever_o he_o have_v we_o have_v and_o thesame_n be_v we_o wherefore_o i_o will_v wish_v that_o this_o word_n priest_n as_o well_o as_o this_o name_n christian_n shall_v be_v common_a to_o all_o for_o these_o name_n priest_n christian_n and_o baptise_a be_v all_o one_o now_o as_o i_o can_v not_o abide_v that_o these_o popish_a shavelynge_v shall_v thus_o teach_v we_o a_o other_o manner_n of_o lesson_n and_o therefore_o diligent_o note_v and_o mark_v these_o thing_n to_o the_o end_n thou_o may_v thorough_o discern_v between_o they_o who_o god_n call_v priest_n and_o they_o that_o so_o call_v theim selue_o for_o by_o this_o mean_n after_o a_o long_a mistake_n of_o it_o we_o must_v at_o length_n recover_v and_o reduce_v this_o word_n priest_n to_o his_o right_a sense_n and_o proper_a meaning_n that_o it_o may_v be_v as_o common_a a_o name_n as_o the_o name_n of_o christian_n for_o to_o be_v a_o priest_n be_v not_o the_o name_n of_o any_o outward_a or_o external_a office_n but_o it_o be_v such_o as_o be_v exercise_v only_o toward_o god_n and_o that_o in_o spirit_n and_o even_o after_o the_o self_n same_o manner_n it_o be_v that_o we_o be_v all_o indifferent_o call_v king_n for_o even_o as_o priest_n so_o also_o king_n be_v in_o this_o place_n spiritual_a vocables_n or_o word_n like_v as_o also_o these_o name_n be_v christian_n holy_a and_o church_n and_o even_o as_o thou_o do_v not_o call_v any_o man_n a_o christian_n because_o he_o have_v much_o money_n and_o wealth_n but_o because_o he_o be_v build_v upon_o the_o aforesaid_a stone_n believe_v in_o christ_n so_o likewise_o be_v thou_o not_o therefore_o call_v priest_n because_o thou_o haste_v a_o shave_a crown_n and_o jet_v the_o street_n in_o a_o long_a gown_n but_o because_o thou_o dare_v appear_v and_o show_v thyself_o in_o the_o sight_n of_o god_n offer_v up_o thyself_o unto_o he_o and_o pray_v for_o the_o whole_a church_n unto_o who_o thou_o both_o rather_o have_v teach_v they_o thus_o you_o be_v christian_n aswell_o as_o they_o that_o be_v a_o hundred_o mile_n distant_a from_o you_o you_o have_v all_o one_o christ_n one_o baptism_n one_o faith_n one_o spirit_n one_o worde_n one_o god_n there_o be_v no_o work_n that_o you_o of_o yourselves_o be_v able_a to_o do_v toward_o your_o salvation_n or_o able_a to_o bring_v you_o to_o the_o
