he_o find_v the_o body_n grow_v upon_o the_o mind_n and_o intoxicate_v it_o with_o the_o love_n of_o sensual_a pleasure_n he_o remember_v that_o his_o body_n must_v die_v and_o all_o these_o pleasure_n must_v die_v with_o it_o that_o they_o be_v indeed_o kill_v pleasure_n which_o kill_v a_o mortal_a body_n before_o its_o time_n that_o it_o do_v not_o become_v a_o man_n who_o be_v but_o a_o traveller_n in_o this_o world_n but_o a_o pilgrim_n and_o a_o stranger_n here_o to_o study_v ease_n and_o softness_n and_o luxury_n that_o a_o soul_n which_o must_v live_v for_o ever_o shall_v prolong_v our_o life_n preserve_v or_o increase_v our_o fortune_n give_v we_o honour_n and_o reputation_n in_o the_o world_n and_o make_v we_o belove_v both_o by_o god_n and_o man_n but_o set_v aside_o these_o thing_n there_o be_v two_o advantage_n of_o a_o early_a preparation_n for_o death_n which_o contribute_v more_o to_o our_o happiness_n than_o all_o the_o world_n beside_o 1._o that_o natural_a aversion_n which_o be_v more_o easy_o conquer_v and_o death_n be_v a_o very_a innocent_a harmless_a nay_o desirable_a thing_n do_v not_o sin_n give_v a_o sting_n to_o it_o and_o terrify_v we_o with_o the_o thought_n of_o that_o judgement_n which_o be_v to_o follow_v quarrel_v not_o then_o at_o the_o divine_a justice_n in_o appoint_v death_n god_n be_v very_o good_a as_o well_o as_o just_a in_o it_o but_o vent_v all_o your_o indignation_n against_o sin_n pull_v out_o this_o sting_n of_o death_n and_o then_o you_o will_v see_v nothing_o but_o smile_n and_o charm_n in_o it_o than_o it_o be_v nothing_o but_o put_v off_o these_o mortal_a body_n to_o reassume_v they_o again_o with_o all_o the_o advantage_n of_o a_o immortal_a youth_n it_o be_v certain_a indeed_o we_o must_v die_v this_o be_v appoint_v for_o we_o and_o the_o very_a certainty_n of_o our_o death_n will_v teach_v we_o that_o wisdom_n which_o may_v help_v we_o to_o regain_v a_o better_a immortality_n than_o we_o insatiable_a thirst_n of_o riches_n why_o must_v there_o be_v no_o end_n of_o add_v house_n to_o house_n and_o field_n to_o field_n be_v this_o world_n thy_o home_n be_v this_o thy_o abide_a city_n do_v thou_o hope_v to_o take_v up_o a_o eternal_a rest_n here_o vain_a man_n thou_o must_v short_o remove_v thy_o dwell_n and_o then_o who_o shall_v all_o these_o thing_n be_v death_n will_v short_o for_o indeed_o god_n power_n in_o this_o be_v equal_a to_o man_n at_o least_o man_n can_v kill_v for_o man_n be_v mortal_a and_o may_v be_v kill_v and_o this_o be_v only_o for_o a_o mortal_a creature_n to_o die_v a_o little_a out_o of_o order_n but_o god_n can_v kill_v too_o and_o thus_o far_o the_o case_n be_v the_o same_o it_o be_v true_a most_o man_n be_v of_o the_o mind_n in_o such_o a_o case_n rather_o to_o trust_v god_n then_o man_n because_o he_o do_v not_o always_o punish_v in_o this_o world_n nor_o execute_v a_o speedy_a vengeance_n and_o yet_o when_o our_o saviour_n take_v he_o shall_v die_v for_o god_n certain_o know_v when_o we_o shall_v die_v because_o he_o know_v all_o thing_n and_o therefore_o with_o respect_n to_o the_o foreknowledge_n of_o god_n the_o time_n of_o our_o death_n be_v certain_a thus_o much_o be_v certain_a as_o to_o death_n that_o we_o must_v all_o die_v and_o it_o be_v certain_a also_o that_o death_n be_v not_o far_o off_o because_o we_o know_v be_v appoint_v for_o all_o man_n once_o to_o die_v sect_n i._o that_o the_o general_a period_n of_o humane_a life_n be_v fix_v and_o determine_v by_o god_n and_o that_o it_o be_v but_o very_o short_a i._o that_o the_o general_a period_n of_o humane_a life_n which_o be_v the_o same_o thing_n with_o the_o time_n of_o our_o death_n be_v fix_v and_o determine_v by_o god_n that_o be_v there_o be_v a_o time_n set_v to_o humane_a life_n beyond_o which_o no_o man_n shall_v live_v as_o job_n speak_v 14_o job_n 5._o his_o day_n be_v determine_v the_o number_n of_o his_o month_n be_v with_o thou_o thou_o have_v appoint_v his_o bound_n that_o he_o can_v pass_v which_o do_v not_o refer_v to_o the_o period_n of_o every_o particular_a man_n life_n but_o be_v speak_v of_o man_n in_o general_n that_o there_o be_v fix_v bound_n set_v to_o humane_a life_n which_o no_o man_n can_v exceed_v what_o these_o bound_n be_v god_n have_v not_o express_o declare_v but_o that_o must_v be_v learn_v from_o observation_n such_o a_o time_n as_o most_o common_o put_v a_o period_n to_o man_n life_n who_o live_v long_a may_v general_o pass_v for_o the_o common_a measure_n of_o humane_a life_n though_o there_o may_v be_v some_o few_o exception_n before_o the_o flood_n no_o man_n live_v a_o thousand_o year_n and_o therefore_o we_o may_v conclude_v that_o the_o long_a term_n of_o humane_a life_n as_o a_o reparation_n of_o that_o death_n which_o they_o fall_v under_o by_o adam_n sin_n but_o then_o these_o thousand_o year_n do_v not_o put_v a_o end_n to_o the_o happiness_n of_o these_o glorious_a saint_n but_o they_o be_v immortal_a creature_n and_o though_o this_o reign_n with_o christ_n continue_v but_o a_o thousand_o year_n their_o happiness_n shall_v have_v no_o end_n though_o the_o scene_n may_v change_v and_o vary_v for_o over_o such_o man_n the_o second_o death_n have_v no_o power_n or_o else_o this_o thousand_o year_n reign_n with_o christ_n must_v
of_o a_o universal_a empire_n through_o a_o long_a series_n of_o event_n or_o meditate_v change_n and_o alteration_n of_o government_n of_o the_o law_n and_o religion_n of_o a_o nation_n by_o insensible_a step_n and_o method_n which_o though_o it_o be_v never_o so_o hopeful_a a_o project_n they_o can_v hope_v to_o live_v to_o see_v effect_v and_o therefore_o exceed_v their_o own_o bound_n and_o trouble_v the_o world_n at_o present_a with_o what_o no_o body_n now_o live_v may_v ever_o be_v concern_v in_o they_o undertake_v to_o govern_v the_o world_n when_o they_o be_v dead_a and_o go_v whereas_o every_o age_n bring_v forth_o new_a project_n and_o counsel_n as_o it_o do_v a_o new_a generation_n of_o man_n and_o new_a scene_n of_o affair_n and_o a_o new_a set_v of_o politician_n will_v live_v more_o at_o ease_n and_o the_o world_n enjoy_v more_o peace_n and_o quiet_a than_o now_o it_o be_v ever_o likely_a to_o do_v and_o yet_o one_o will_v think_v this_o very_a reasonable_a not_o to_o concern_v ourselves_o about_o the_o world_n any_o long_a than_o we_o be_v like_a to_o live_v in_o it_o to_o do_v no_o injury_n to_o posterity_n as_o near_o as_o we_o can_v and_o to_o do_v what_o good_a we_o can_v for_o they_o without_o disturb_v the_o present_a peace_n and_o good_a government_n of_o the_o world_n but_o to_o leave_v the_o care_n of_o the_o next_o age_n to_o those_o compute_v the_o whole_a duration_n of_o their_o life_n without_o consider_v how_o much_o of_o this_o be_v already_o past_a and_o how_o little_a of_o it_o be_v to_o come_v which_o if_o man_n will_v serious_o think_v of_o they_o will_v not_o be_v so_o apt_a to_o flatter_v themselves_o with_o a_o long_a life_n for_o no_o man_n account_v twenty_o or_o thirty_o year_n a_o long_a life_n and_o that_o be_v the_o most_o they_o have_v to_o live_v now_o though_o they_o shall_v attain_v to_o the_o long_a period_n of_o humane_a life_n much_o less_o can_v they_o flatter_v themselves_o with_o a_o long_a life_n when_o they_o can_v not_o probable_o reckon_v above_o fifteen_o or_o ten_o year_n to_o come_v and_o will_v man_n observe_v how_o their_o life_n shorten_v every_o day_n this_o if_o any_o thing_n will_v make_v they_o grow_v chary_a of_o their_o time_n and_o begin_v to_o think_v of_o live_v that_o be_v of_o mind_v the_o true_a end_n and_o purpose_n of_o life_n of_o do_v the_o work_n for_o they_o shall_v then_o begin_v to_o think_v of_o die_v that_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o the_o late_a to_o begin_v such_o a_o work_n though_o if_o they_o have_v not_o do_v it_o before_o it_o be_v without_o doubt_n high_a time_n to_o begin_v it_o then_o in_o the_o last_o minute_n of_o their_o life_n and_o to_o do_v what_o they_o can_v in_o that_o little_a time_n that_o remain_v to_o obtain_v their_o pardon_n of_o god_n for_o spend_v a_o long_a life_n in_o sin_n and_o vanity_n and_o in_o a_o forgetfulness_n of_o their_o maker_n and_o redeemer_n but_o that_o which_o i_o now_o intend_v concern_v those_o who_o have_v think_v of_o die_v long_o before_o and_o govern_v their_o life_n under_o the_o conduct_n and_o influence_n of_o such_o thought_n and_o therefore_o be_v not_o whole_o unprepared_a for_o death_n but_o be_v ready_a to_o welcome_v it_o whenever_o it_o come_v but_o there_o be_v a_o decent_a way_n of_o meet_v death_n which_o become_v such_o man_n which_o i_o call_v a_o more_o solemn_a preparation_n for_o it_o that_o be_v when_o their_o condition_n and_o circumstance_n of_o life_n will_v permit_v it_o to_o take_v a_o timely_a leave_n of_o the_o world_n and_o to_o withdraw_v from_o the_o noise_n and_o business_n of_o it_o when_o they_o be_v place_v just_a in_o the_o confine_n of_o both_o world_n to_o direct_v their_o face_n whole_o to_o that_o world_n whither_o they_o be_v a_o go_v to_o spend_v the_o little_a remain_v of_o their_o life_n in_o converse_v with_o themselves_o with_o god_n and_o with_o the_o other_o world._n 1._o in_o converse_v with_o themselves_o which_o god_n know_v very_o few_o man_n do_v while_o they_o be_v engage_v in_o the_o business_n of_o this_o world_n the_o care_n of_o life_n or_o the_o pleasure_n of_o it_o our_o family_n or_o our_o friend_n or_o stranger_n themselves_o take_v we_o from_o ourselves_o and_o therefore_o it_o be_v fit_a before_o man_n go_v out_o of_o this_o world_n that_o they_o shall_v recover_v the_o possession_n of_o themselves_o and_o grow_v a_o little_a more_o acquaint_v and_o intimate_v with_o themselves_o retire_v from_o the_o world_n to_o take_v a_o more_o thorough_a review_n of_o their_o life_n and_o action_n what_o they_o have_v still_o to_o do_v to_o make_v their_o peace_n with_o god_n and_o their_o own_o conscience_n whether_o there_o be_v any_o sin_n which_o they_o have_v not_o thorough_o repent_v of_o and_o hearty_o beg_v god_n pardon_n for_o any_o injury_n they_o have_v do_v their_o neighbour_n for_o which_o they_o have_v not_o make_v sufficient_a restitution_n and_o reparation_n whether_o they_o have_v any_o quarrel_n with_o any_o man_n which_o be_v not_o compose_v and_o reconcile_v whether_o there_o be_v any_o part_n of_o their_o duty_n which_o they_o have_v former_o too_o much_o neglect_v as_o charity_n to_o the_o poor_a the_o wise_a education_n and_o instruction_n of_o their_o child_n and_o family_n and_o to_o apply_v themselves_o to_o a_o more_o diligent_a discharge_n of_o it_o what_o distemper_n there_o be_v in_o their_o mind_n which_o still_o need_v to_o be_v rectify_v what_o grace_n be_v weak_a what_o passion_n be_v most_o disorderly_a
