relation_n or_o with_o reference_n to_o those_o peculiar_a circumstance_n of_o providence_n under_o which_o they_o be_v act_v i_o shall_v add_v but_o one_o branch_n of_o application_n more_o and_o some_o for_o the_o declaration_n of_o his_o justice_n thus_o you_o see_v this_o motion_n of_o providence_n be_v easy_o reconcileable_a to_o the_o justice_n of_o god_n upon_o this_o hypothesis_n that_o child_n be_v sinner_n and_o under_o a_o original_a guilt_n and_o if_o we_o can_v be_v so_o confident_a as_o some_o be_v that_o none_o shall_v be_v damn_v for_o that_o sin_n only_o or_o that_o it_o be_v expiate_v on_o the_o behalf_n of_o all_o or_o wash_v away_o in_o baptism_n as_o to_o all_o bear_v within_o the_o pale_a of_o the_o church_n yet_o nothing_o hinder_v but_o by_o the_o same_o justice_n by_o which_o god_n punish_v past_a and_o pardon_v sin_n which_o i_o have_v former_o at_o large_a open_v to_o you_o god_n may_v yet_o just_o trouble_v and_o afflict_v little_a one_o they_o may_v be_v sick_a and_o they_o may_v die_v as_o jeroboam'_v child_n mention_v in_o the_o text_n do_v though_o vers_fw-la 13._o say_v of_o he_o express_o that_o there_o be_v some_o good_a thing_n find_v in_o he_o towards_o the_o lord_n god_n of_o israel_n let_v this_o be_v a_o second_o consideration_n to_o satisfy_v you_o as_o to_o the_o righteousness_n of_o god_n in_o these_o dispensation_n but_o i_o proceed_v yet_o further_o 3._o this_o motion_n of_o providence_n seem_v very_o reasonable_a and_o competent_a to_o the_o wisdom_n of_o god_n that_o he_o may_v declare_v to_o the_o world_n that_o he_o be_v that_o god_n in_o who_o all_o breath_n he_o in_o who_o they_o live_v they_o move_v and_o have_v their_o be_v if_o we_o shall_v see_v none_o die_v but_o in_o a_o old_a age_n we_o shall_v be_v ready_a to_o think_v that_o our_o candle_n never_o go_v out_o but_o for_o want_n of_o oil_n and_o shall_v not_o understand_v how_o much_o we_o be_v behold_v to_o god_n for_o every_o hour_n of_o life_n how_o much_o we_o depend_v upon_o he_o for_o our_o daily_a breath_n as_o well_o as_o for_o daily_a bread_n now_o it_o be_v but_o reasonable_a that_o the_o world_n shall_v understand_v god_n to_o be_v the_o fountain_n of_o life_n that_o sickness_n and_o death_n do_v not_o mere_o depend_v upon_o second_o cause_n but_o there_o be_v a_o first_o cause_n that_o be_v the_o efficient_a the_o principal_a efficient_a cause_n of_o these_o change_n though_o he_o use_v a_o variety_n of_o second_o cause_n he_o will_v therefore_o suffer_v irregular_a motion_n of_o humour_n in_o child_n which_o shall_v in_o they_o cause_n sickness_n and_o death_n though_o they_o never_o be_v surfeit_v with_o meat_n nor_o inflame_v with_o drink_n he_o blow_v out_o candle_n new_o light_v to_o let_v we_o know_v that_o the_o issue_n of_o life_n and_o death_n be_v in_o his_o hand_n and_o that_o the_o breath_n of_o man_n be_v not_o mere_o in_o his_o own_o nostril_n and_o it_o be_v but_o reasonable_a that_o god_n shall_v make_v himself_o thus_o know_v to_o we_o as_o the_o god_n of_o our_o life_n 4._o again_o this_o dispensation_n of_o providence_n be_v reconcileable_a to_o the_o goodness_n of_o god_n god_n by_o this_o mean_n do_v deliver_v little_a one_o from_o the_o evil_a to_o come_v this_o be_v the_o very_a case_n in_o the_o text_n god_n be_v bring_v evil_a upon_o the_o house_n of_o jeroboam_n as_o he_o threaten_v vers_fw-la 10_o 11_o 12._o he_o intend_v to_o take_v away_o the_o remnant_n of_o the_o house_n of_o jeroboam_n as_o a_o man_n take_v away_o dung_n from_o the_o earth_n abijah_n fall_v sick_a and_o die_v and_o this_o out_o of_o mercy_n to_o he_o that_o his_o eye_n may_v not_o see_v nor_o he_o have_v any_o share_n in_o the_o evil_n which_o god_n be_v about_o to_o bring_v upon_o his_o father_n house_n god_n gather_v up_o the_o lamb_n before_o the_o storm_n come_v it_o be_v say_v of_o babylon_n psal_n 137._o that_o he_o shall_v be_v happy_a that_o shall_v take_v their_o little_a one_o and_o dash_v they_o against_o the_o stone_n and_o we_o read_v in_o scripture_n of_o such_o famine_n as_o enforce_a woman_n to_o eat_v their_o own_o child_n now_o god_n often_o cut_v off_o little_a one_o in_o his_o mercy_n to_o they_o i_o may_v here_o further_o add_v that_o god_n by_o this_o dispensation_n prevent_v much_o sin_n in_o those_o that_o be_v thus_o take_v away_o but_o i_o pass_v on_o yet_o to_o some_o further_a consideration_n clear_v god_n justice_n 5._o it_o be_v but_o reasonable_a that_o god_n shall_v do_v this_o to_o punish_v the_o sin_n of_o the_o parent_n and_o to_o do_v they_o good_a it_o be_v one_o of_o my_o observation_n concern_v the_o motion_n of_o actual_a providence_n that_o god_n do_v very_o ordinary_o punish_v relation_n in_o their_o correlate_n parent_n in_o their_o child_n and_o i_o show_v you_o the_o reasonableness_n of_o divine_a providence_n in_o this_o motion_n it_o be_v for_o the_o punishment_n of_o david_n sin_n that_o his_o child_n by_o bathsheba_n die_v and_o the_o death_n of_o it_o be_v threaten_v by_o nathan_n as_o a_o part_n of_o david_n punishment_n 2_o sam._n 12.14_o possible_o god_n may_v sometime_o do_v it_o to_o abate_v our_o affection_n to_o our_o child_n and_o that_o he_o may_v have_v more_o of_o our_o heart_n and_o affection_n as_o the_o gardener_n cut_v off_o the_o sucker_n which_o draw_v too_o much_o from_o the_o root_n and_o the_o country_n housewife_n take_v away_o the_o calf_n when_o it_o suck_v so_o much_o as_o it_o leave_v no_o milk_n for_o the_o pail_n 6._o final_o why_o may_v not_o this_o motion_n of_o providence_n seem_v reasonable_a that_o room_n may_v be_v leave_v in_o the_o world_n the_o world_n be_v a_o great_a theatre_n in_o which_o he_o have_v many_o to_o act_v their_o part_n god_n at_o first_o lengthen_v out_o the_o life_n of_o the_o patriarch_n to_o seven_o eight_o nine_o hundred_o year_n that_o the_o world_n may_v be_v replenish_v with_o inhabitant_n he_o now_o shorten_v the_o life_n of_o those_o that_o be_v bear_v into_o the_o world_n that_o the_o world_n may_v not_o be_v overburden_v with_o inhabitant_n more_o may_v be_v add_v by_o the_o death_n
fruit_n of_o the_o womb_n as_o a_o blessing_n and_o bless_v he_o that_o have_v his_o quiver_n full_a of_o these_o shaft_n but_o now_o the_o poor_a man_n know_v not_o how_o to_o understand_v this_o and_o it_o be_v hard_o for_o he_o not_o to_o repine_v at_o the_o multiply_a of_o it_o a_o great_a error_n doubtless_o but_o such_o as_o for_o aught_o i_o know_v good_a people_n may_v fall_v into_o we_o can_v trust_v god_n to_o provide_v for_o those_o which_o he_o give_v we_o if_o this_o have_v be_v thy_o error_n god_n but_o pay_v thou_o in_o thy_o own_o kind_n by_o shorten_v thy_o number_n thy_o heart_n more_o of_o thy_o love_n and_o and_o delight_n than_o god_n have_v no_o wonder_n if_o he_o have_v take_v it_o from_o thou_o this_o be_v now_o usual_o the_o sin_n of_o those_o who_o circumstance_n in_o the_o world_n be_v better_o they_o have_v a_o fair_a estate_n in_o the_o world_n and_o child_n few_o enough_o to_o leave_v it_o to_o and_o in_o such_o case_n it_o be_v a_o very_a hard_a thing_n to_o keep_v our_o heart_n within_o due_a bound_n but_o our_o affection_n be_v ready_a to_o overflow_v especial_o if_o there_o be_v nothing_o in_o the_o temper_n or_o behaviour_n of_o the_o child_n that_o take_v off_o the_o edge_n of_o our_o affection_n to_o it_o 3._o do_v not_o thy_o heart_n smite_v thou_o for_o the_o neglect_n of_o thy_o duty_n to_o thy_o child_n especial_o if_o it_o be_v of_o any_o year_n thy_o duty_n in_o instruct_v it_o or_o thy_o duty_n in_o reprove_v and_o admonish_v it_o elie_n son_n be_v indeed_o man_n grow_v but_o god_n cut_v off_o his_o child_n son_n and_o daughter_n even_o a_o everlasting_a name_n which_o shall_v never_o be_v cut_v off_o but_o i_o shall_v digress_v no_o further_o on_o this_o argument_n 4._o last_o have_v still_v thy_o
