covenant_n of_o work_n and_o how_o it_o deal_v with_o they_o that_o be_v under_o it_o the_o prisoner_n have_v offend_v cry_v out_o for_o mercy_n good_a my_o lord_n mercy_n say_v he_o pray_v my_o be_v a_o full_a and_o complete_a satisfaction_n give_v to_o it_o either_o by_o the_o man_n own_o life_n or_o by_o the_o blood_n of_o some_o other_o man_n for_o without_o shed_v of_o blood_n there_o be_v no_o remission_n heb._n 9_o 22._o that_o be_v there_o be_v no_o deliverance_n from_o under_o the_o curse_n of_o the_o law_n of_o god_n and_o therefore_o however_o the_o law_n of_o man_n may_v be_v make_v of_o none_o effect_n sometime_o by_o show_v mercy_n without_o give_v of_o a_o full_a satisfaction_n yet_o the_o law_n of_o god_n can_v be_v so_o content_v nor_o at_o the_o least_o give_v eternal_a life_n no_o joy_n in_o the_o holy_a ghost_n no_o share_n in_o the_o privilege_n of_o saint_n because_o they_o be_v tie_v up_o from_o they_o by_o the_o limit_n and_o bond_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n for_o you_o must_v understand_v that_o these_o two_o covenant_n have_v their_o several_a bound_n and_o limitation_n for_o the_o roll_a and_o keep_v in_o subjection_n or_o give_v of_o freedom_n to_o the_o party_n under_o the_o say_a covenant_n now_o they_o that_o be_v under_o the_o law_n be_v within_o the_o compass_n and_o the_o jurisdiction_n of_o that_o and_o be_v bind_v to_o be_v in_o subjection_n to_o that_o and_o live_v and_o die_v under_o that_o they_o must_v stand_v and_o fall_v to_o that_o as_o paul_n say_v to_o his_o own_o master_n he_o shall_v stand_v or_o fall_v the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n do_v admit_v to_o those_o that_o be_v under_o it_o also_o liberty_n and_o freedom_n together_o with_o command_v of_o subjection_n to_o the_o thing_n contain_v in_o the_o body_n of_o christ_n which_o be_v for_o salvation_n and_o get_v they_o to_o trust_v in_o a_o fresh_a crucify_a of_o christ_n which_o unavoidable_o bring_v their_o speedy_a damnation_n four_o they_o that_o do_v reject_v this_o man_n as_o aforesaid_a do_v sin_n the_o unpardonable_a sin_n because_o in_o reject_v he_o they_o do_v make_v way_n for_o the_o justice_n of_o god_n to_o break_v the_o holy_a ghost_n because_o such_o a_o person_n do_v as_o i_o may_v say_v lay_v violent_a hand_n on_o it_o one_o that_o set_v himself_o in_o opposition_n to_o and_o be_v resolve_v to_o resist_v all_o the_o motion_n that_o do_v come_v in_o from_o the_o spirit_n to_o persuade_v the_o contrary_n for_o i_o do_v very_o believe_v that_o man_n in_o this_o very_o reject_v of_o the_o son_n of_o god_n after_o some_o knowledge_n of_o he_o especial_o at_o their_o first_o resist_v and_o refuse_v of_o he_o they_o have_v certain_a motion_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n to_o dissuade_v they_o from_o so_o great_a a_o soul-damning_a act._n but_o they_o be_v fill_v with_o a_o overpower_v measure_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o the_o devil_n do_v do_v despite_n unto_o these_o conviction_n and_o motion_n by_o study_v and_o contrive_v how_o they_o may_v answer_v they_o and_o get_v from_o under_o
other_o go_v upright_o to_o the_o great_a prejudice_n of_o thy_o poor_a soul_n object_n but_o alas_o i_o have_v nothing_o to_o carry_v with_o i_o how_o then_o shall_v i_o go_v answ._n have_v thou_o no_o sin_n if_o thou_o have_v carry_v they_o and_o exchange_v they_o for_o his_o righteousness_n because_o he_o have_v say_v cast_v thy_o burden_n upon_o the_o lord_n and_o he_o will_v sustain_v thou_o psal._n 55._o 22._o and_o again_o because_o he_o have_v say_v though_o thou_o be_v heavy_a lade_v yet_o if_o thou_o do_v but_o come_v to_o he_o he_o will_v give_v thou_o rest_n mat._n 11._o able_a to_o attain_v those_o bless_a thing_n that_o be_v hold_v forth_o to_o sinner_n by_o jesus_n christ_n and_o therefore_o my_o trouble_n be_v much_o upon_o this_o account_n also_o and_o many_o time_n i_o fear_v that_o will_v come_v upon_o i_o which_o satan_n suggest_v to_o i_o that_o be_v i_o shall_v miss_v of_o eternal_a life_n 1._o answ._n as_o to_o the_o latter_a part_n of_o the_o objection_n that_o thou_o shall_v never_o attain_v to_o everlasting_a life_n that_o be_v obtain_v for_o thou_o already_o without_o thy_o do_v either_o thy_o pray_v strive_v or_o wrestle_v against_o sin_n if_o we_o speak_v proper_o it_o be_v christ_n that_o have_v in_o his_o own_o body_n abolish_v death_n on_o the_o cross_n and_o bring_v light_n life_n and_o glory_n to_o we_o through_o this_o by_o faith_n to_o jesus_n christ_n and_o all_o because_o thou_o be_v so_o slothful_a so_o cold_a so_o weak_a so_o great_a a_o sinner_n so_o subject_a to_o slip_v and_o commit_v infirmity_n 2._o answ._n i_o answer_v do_v thou_o never_o learn_v for_o to_o out-shoot_a the_o devil_n in_o his_o own_o bow_n and_o to_o cut_v off_o his_o head_n with_o his_o own_o sword_n as_o david_n serve_v goliath_n who_o be_v a_o type_n of_o he_o quest._n o_o how_o shall_v a_o poor_a soul_n do_v this_o this_o be_v rare_a indeed_o answ._n why_o true_o thus_o do_v satan_n tell_v thou_o thou_o pray_v but_o faint_o and_o with_o very_o cold_a devotion_n answer_v he_o thus_o and_o say_v i_o be_o glad_a you_o tell_v i_o for_o this_o will_v make_v i_o trust_v the_o more_o to_o christ_n prayer_n and_o the_o less_o to_o my_o own_o also_o i_o will_v endeavour_v henceforward_o to_o groan_v to_o sigh_v and_o to_o be_v so_o fervent_a in_o my_o cry_n at_o the_o throne_n of_o grace_n that_o i_o will_v if_o i_o can_v make_v the_o heaven_n rattle_v again_o with_o the_o mighty_a groan_n thereof_o and_o whereas_o thou_o say_v that_o i_o be_o so_o weak_a in_o believe_v i_o be_o glad_a you_o mind_v i_o of_o it_o i_o hope_v it_o will_v hence_o forward_o stir_v i_o up_o to_o cry_v the_o more_o hearty_o to_o god_n for_o strong_a faith_n and_o make_v i_o the_o more_o restless_a till_o i_o have_v it_o and_o see_v thou_o tell_v i_o that_o i_o run_v so_o soft_o and_o that_o i_o shall_v go_v near_o to_o miss_v of_o glory_n this_o also_o shall_v be_v through_o grace_n to_o my_o advantage_n and_o cause_v i_o to_o press_v the_o more_o earnest_o towards_o the_o mark_n for_o the_o price_n of_o the_o high_a call_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n jesus_n and_o see_v thou_o do_v tell_v i_o that_o my_o sin_n be_v wondrous_a great_a hereby_o thou_o bring_v the_o remembrance_n of_o the_o unsupportable_a vengeance_n of_o god_n into_o my_o mind_n if_o i_o die_v out_o of_o jesus_n christ_n and_o also_o the_o necessity_n of_o the_o blood_n death_n and_o merit_n of_o christ_n to_o help_v i_o i_o hope_v it_o will_v make_v i_o fly_v the_o fast_o and_o press_v the_o hard_a after_o a_o interest_n in_o he_o and_o the_o rather_o because_o as_o thou_o tell_v i_o my_o state_n will_v be_v unspeakable_a miserable_a without_o he_o and_o so_o all_o along_o if_o he_o tell_v thou_o of_o thy_o deadness_n dulness_n coldness_n or_o unbelief_n or_o the_o greatness_n of_o thy_o sin_n answer_v he_o and_o say_v i_o be_o glad_a you_o tell_v i_o i_o hope_v it_o will_v be_v a_o mean_n to_o make_v i_o run_v fast_o seek_v earnestly_o and_o to_o be_v the_o more_o restless_a after_o jesus_n christ._n if_o thou_o do_v but_o get_v this_o art_n as_o to_o out_o run_v he_o in_o his_o own_o shoe_n as_o i_o may_v say_v and_o to_o make_v his_o own_o dart_n to_o pierce_v himself_o than_o thou_o may_v also_o say_v now_o do_v satan_n temptation_n as_o well_o as_o all_o other_o thing_n work_v together_o for_o my_o good_a for_o my_o advantage_n rom._n 8._o 28._o object_n but_o i_o do_v find_v so_o many_o weakness_n in_o every_o duty_n that_o i_o do_v perform_v as_o when_o i_o pray_v when_o i_o read_v when_o i_o hear_v or_o any_o other_o duty_n that_o it_o make_v i_o out_o of_o conceit_n with_o myself_o it_o make_v i_o think_v that_o my_o duty_n be_v nothing_o worth_a answ._n i_o answer_v it_o may_v be_v it_o be_v thy_o mercy_n that_o thou_o be_v sensible_a of_o infirmity_n in_o thy_o best_a thing_n thou_o do_v i_o a_o great_a mercy_n than_o thou_o be_v aware_a of_o quest._n can_v it_o be_v a_o mercy_n for_o i_o to_o be_v trouble_v with_o my_o corruption_n can_v it_o be_v a_o privilege_n for_o i_o to_o be_v annoy_v with_o infirmity_n and_o to_o have_v my_o best_a duty_n infect_v with_o it_o how_o can_v it_o possible_o be_v answ._n very_o thy_o sin_n appear_v in_o thy_o best_a duty_n do_v work_n for_o thy_o advantage_n these_o way_n first_o in_o that_o thou_o find_v ground_n enough_o thereby_o to_o make_v thou_o humble_a and_o when_o thou_o have_v do_v all_o yet_o to_o count_v thyself_o but_o a_o unprofitable_a servant_n and_o second_o thou_o by_o this_o mean_n be_v take_v off_o from_o lean_v on_o any_o thing_n below_o a_o naked_a jesus_n for_o eternal_a life_n it_o be_v like_a if_o thou_o be_v not_o sensible_a of_o many_o by-thought_n and_o wickedness_n in_o thy_o best_a performance_n thou_o will_v go_v near_o to_o be_v some_o proud_a abominable_a hypocrite_n or_o a_o silly_a proud_a dissemble_a wretch_n at_o the_o best_a such_o a_o one_o as_o will_v send_v thy_o soul_n to_o the_o devil_n in_o a_o bundle_n of_o thy_o own_o righteousness_n but_o now_o thou_o through_o grace_n see_v that_o all_o and_o every_o thing_n thou_o do_v there_o be_v sin_n enough_o in_o it_o to_o condemn_v thou_o this_o in_o the_o first_o place_n make_v thou_o have_v a_o care_n of_o trust_v in_o thy_o own_o do_n and_o second_o show_v thou_o that_o there_o be_v nothing_o in_o thyself_o which_o will_n do_v thou_o any_o good_a by_o work_v in_o thou_o as_o to_o the_o meritorious_a cause_n of_o thy_o salvation_n no_o but_o thou_o must_v have_v a_o share_n in_o the_o birth_n of_o jesus_n in_o the_o death_n of_o jesus_n in_o the_o blood_n resurrection_n ascension_n and_o intercession_n of_o a_o crucify_a jesus_n and_o how_o say_v thou_o do_v not_o thy_o find_n of_o this_o in_o thou_o cause_v thou_o to_o fly_v from_o a_o depend_v on_o thy_o own_o do_n and_o do_v it_o not_o also_o make_v thou_o the_o more_o earnest_o to_o groan_v after_o the_o lord_n jesus_n yea_o and_o let_v i_o tell_v thou_o also_o it_o will_v be_v a_o cause_n to_o make_v thou_o admire_v the_o freeness_n and_o tender-heartedness_n of_o christ_n to_o thou_o when_o he_o shall_v lift_v up_o the_o light_n of_o his_o countenance_n upon_o thou_o because_o he_o have_v regard_v such_o a_o one_o as_o thou_o sinful_a thou_o and_o therefore_o in_o this_o sense_n it_o will_v be_v a_o mercy_n to_o the_o saint_n that_o they_o do_v find_v the_o relic_n of_o sin_n still_o struggle_v in_o their_o heart_n but_o this_o be_v not_o simple_o the_o nature_n of_o sin_n but_o the_o mercy_n and_o wisdom_n of_o god_n who_o cause_v all_o thing_n to_o work_v together_o for_o the_o good_a of_o those_o that_o love_n and_o fear_n god_n rom._n 8._o and_o therefore_o whatever_o thou_o find_v in_o thy_o soul_n though_o it_o be_v sin_n of_o never_o so_o black_a a_o soul-scaring_a nature_n let_v it_o move_v thou_o to_o run_v the_o fast_o to_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n and_o thou_o shall_v not_o be_v ashamed_a that_o be_v of_o thy_o run_v to_o he_o but_o second_o when_o thou_o
