humble_a and_o judge_v yourselves_o in_o the_o bitterness_n of_o your_o soul_n cry_v continual_o and_o importunate_o in_o the_o ear_n of_o the_o lord_n that_o if_o it_o be_v possible_a the_o sin_n of_o your_o youth_n and_o the_o long_o continue_a wickedness_n of_o your_o life_n may_v be_v forgive_v you_o that_o the_o often_o resistance_n which_o you_o have_v make_v against_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n may_v be_v pardon_v if_o it_o be_v possible_a that_o the_o frequent_a cast_n of_o the_o word_n of_o god_n behind_o thy_o back_n may_v be_v forgive_v oh_o how_o odious_a and_o contemptible_a be_v and_o now_o be_v very_o earnest_a with_o the_o father_n of_o mercy_n to_o pass_v by_o the_o multitude_n of_o thy_o sin_n which_o in_o these_o many_o year_n of_o thy_o life_n thou_o have_v make_v thyself_o and_o other_o guilty_a of_o chap._n vi_o use_v 5._o last_o yea_o that_o be_v young_a let_v this_o enter_v into_o your_o heart_n and_o be_v you_o persuade_v that_o nothing_o do_v so_o well_o fit_a you_o nothing_o so_o well_o become_v your_o year_n as_o to_o remember_v your_o creator_n as_o to_o know_v to_o love_v to_o fear_v to_o serve_v and_o obey_v he_o that_o make_v you_o now_o be_v the_o spring_n now_o be_v the_o time_n of_o sow_v in_o tear_n even_o in_o your_o youth_n and_o if_o you_o sow_v so_o you_o shall_v in_o youth_n reap_v the_o first_o fruit_n of_o comfort_n now_o be_v the_o day_n and_o therefore_o work_v now_o the_o night_n come_v darkness_n come_v yea_o the_o night_n of_o spiritual_a darkness_n and_o blindness_n of_o mind_n may_v come_v a_o dreadful_a gloomy_a sense_n may_v come_v when_o none_o can_v right_o work_v the_o work_n of_o god_n oh_o then_o what_o a_o extreme_a folly_n be_v it_o for_o you_o now_o to_o sleep_v in_o sin_n while_o it_o be_v day_n and_o while_o mercy_n be_v offer_v and_o the_o way_n of_o life_n be_v show_v and_o the_o work_n which_o god_n have_v ordain_v for_o his_o people_n to_o walk_v in_o be_v lay_v before_o you_o now_o than_o it_o become_v you_o to_o flee_v youthful_a lust_n and_o not_o to_o stay_v till_o they_o flee_v you_o now_o learn_v to_o hate_v all_o sin_n and_o especial_o the_o sin_n to_o which_o your_o age_n incline_v you_o even_o as_o death_n as_o hell_n do_v not_o think_v that_o the_o sin_n of_o youth_n will_v become_v you_o because_o youth_n be_v enclinable_a to_o they_o but_o rather_o think_v they_o be_v so_o much_o the_o more_o unseemly_a because_o nature_n corrupt_v incline_v youth_n unto_o they_o sin_n be_v so_o contrary_n unto_o that_o 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d and_o right_a order_n of_o thing_n which_o god_n have_v make_v that_o it_o incline_v man_n to_o those_o thing_n which_o be_v most_o unseemly_a for_o they_o and_o this_o must_v needs_o be_v so_o for_o sin_n be_v most_o contrary_a unto_o god_n now_o god_n by_o his_o work_n incline_v every_o creature_n to_o that_o which_o become_v it_o and_o so_o by_o his_o work_n upon_o man_n in_o the_o creation_n he_o do_v frame_v in_o he_o a_o propension_n and_o inclination_n to_o that_o which_o do_v every_o way_n become_v he_o best_o now_o sin_n be_v quite_o contrary_a unto_o god_n and_o seize_v upon_o man_n nature_n do_v so_o corrupt_v it_o as_o to_o incline_v it_o to_o that_o which_o be_v most_o unseemly_a for_o it_o so_o man_n in_o general_n be_v incline_v to_o earthly_a to_o bodily_a and_o sensible_a thing_n suitable_a to_o the_o body_n and_o to_o neglect_v heavenly_a and_o spiritual_a thing_n which_o be_v suitable_a to_o his_o soul_n and_o inner_a man_n which_o consider_v the_o nature_n and_o creation_n of_o man_n be_v most_o absurd_a and_o unseemly_a as_o if_o a_o man_n shall_v be_v more_o careful_a of_o his_o foot_n than_o of_o his_o head_n what_o comparison_n be_v there_o between_o the_o soul_n and_o the_o body_n be_v not_o that_o of_o far_o great_a excellency_n than_o this_o how_o unseemly_o a_o thing_n be_v it_o to_o seek_v the_o satisfy_n and_o content_v of_o the_o body_n rather_o than_o of_o the_o spiritual_a and_o better_a part_n of_o a_o man_n self_n so_o sin_n incline_v old_a man_n in_o age_n to_o become_v more_o earthly_a and_o covetous_a than_o before_o now_o this_o be_v most_o unseemly_a so_o the_o heathen_a can_v observe_v count_v it_o as_o foolish_a and_o absurd_a for_o a_o old_a man_n to_o grow_v more_o covetous_a and_o eager_a after_o the_o world_n as_o for_o a_o traveller_n to_o provide_v himself_o so_o much_o the_o more_o careful_o for_o his_o journey_n the_o near_o he_o come_v to_o his_o inn_n or_o journey_n be_v end_n be_v it_o not_o a_o unseemly_a folly_n when_o a_o man_n be_v even_o at_o home_n and_o see_v the_o smoke_n of_o his_o own_o chimney_n to_o seek_v about_o careful_o for_o a_o fresh_a horse_n and_o other_o necessary_n fit_a for_o a_o journey_n of_o many_o hundred_o mile_n so_o what_o more_o foolish_a and_o unseemly_a than_o for_o a_o old_a man_n travel_v to_o his_o last_o home_n to_o be_v the_o more_o careful_a of_o earthly_a thing_n the_o near_o he_o come_v to_o his_o grave_n which_o be_v useful_a to_o he_o only_o by_o the_o way_n and_o as_o sin_n incline_v old_a age_n to_o that_o which_o be_v most_o unseemly_a so_o also_o it_o do_v young_a year_n oh_o do_v not_o think_v these_o thing_n seemly_a for_o thou_o to_o which_o nature_n corrupt_v by_o sin_n incline_v thou_o no_o more_o than_o that_o be_v wholesome_a select_a man_n a_o man_n pick_v out_o of_o the_o multitude_n for_o special_a use_n and_o so_o the_o time_n of_o youth_n be_v express_v as_o a_o choose_a select_a time_n so_o in_o this_o very_a place_n o_o god_n forsake_v i_o not_o &c_n &c_n where_o he_o seem_v to_o set_v the_o day_n of_o old_a age_n against_o the_o day_n of_o youth_n as_o evil_a against_o good_a o_o thou_o have_v teach_v i_o from_o my_o youth_n thou_o have_v vouchsafe_v i_o thy_o presence_n thy_o spirit_n to_o teach_v and_o guide_v i_o in_o those_o good_a and_o pleasant_a day_n of_o youth_n those_o good_a day_n when_o i_o in_o confidence_n of_o thy_o presence_n and_o assistance_n encounter_v the_o bear_n and_o lion_n and_o rescue_v my_o lamb_n tâ—ose_v day_n when_o i_o assault_v the_o philistine_n &_o take_v away_o the_o reproach_n from_o israel_n those_o day_n when_o with_o a_o lively_a and_o ravish_a spirit_n i_o leap_v and_o dance_v before_o the_o ark_n but_o now_o the_o evil_a day_n of_o old_a age_n the_o winter_n to_o i_o chap._n ii_o wherefore_o that_o this_o may_v be_v make_v more_o clear_a unto_o we_o let_v we_o consider_v how_o and_o in_o what_o respect_v the_o day_n of_o youth_n be_v call_v good_a day_n they_o be_v good_a day_n 1._o because_o they_o be_v the_o first_o day_n of_o a_o man_n life_n childhood_n be_v but_o as_o it_o be_v a_o preparative_n to_o the_o life_n of_o man_n child_n while_o they_o be_v child_n have_v but_o some_o imperfect_a beginning_n of_o the_o life_n of_o reason_n which_o be_v the_o proper_a and_o peculiar_a life_n of_o man_n therefore_o we_o may_v reckon_v the_o day_n of_o youth_n as_o the_o first_o day_n of_o man_n life_n when_o he_o first_o begin_v to_o live_v as_o a_o man_n and_o to_o live_v the_o life_n of_o reason_n in_o some_o degree_n of_o perfection_n now_o you_o know_v that_o the_o first_o in_o every_o kind_n have_v the_o pre-eminence_n the_o first-born_a of_o man_n the_o firstling_n of_o beast_n the_o first-fruit_n of_o the_o earth_n the_o morning_n of_o the_o day_n the_o first_o age_n of_o the_o world_n the_o spring_n of_o the_o year_n so_o there_o be_v a_o kind_n of_o preeminency_n in_o the_o first_o day_n of_o man_n life_n which_o be_v the_o day_n of_o youth_n they_o be_v a_o man_n prime_n and_o his_o good_a day_n 2._o the_o day_n of_o youth_n be_v good_a day_n because_o ordinary_o they_o be_v the_o day_n of_o best_a health_n and_o strength_n day_n wherein_o we_o be_v of_o able_a body_n for_o any_o special_a service_n for_o although_o it_o be_v true_a that_o in_o the_o worship_n of_o god_n bodily_a exercise_n profit_v but_o little_a in_o comparison_n of_o the_o inward_a power_n of_o godliness_n yet_o strength_n and_o health_n when_o they_o be_v make_v serviceable_a to_o a_o sanctify_a upright_a heart_n be_v of_o special_a use_n both_o in_o the_o immediate_a worship_n of_o god_n and_o in_o the_o performance_n of_o many_o office_n of_o love_n which_o we_o ought_v to_o do_v towards_o our_o brethren_n in_o the_o lord_n mens_fw-la sana_fw-la in_o corpore_fw-la sano_fw-la as_o they_o say_v a_o sound_a mind_n and_o a_o heavenly_a spirit_n further_v in_o the_o worship_n and_o service_n of_o god_n by_o a_o strong_a healthy_a well-tempered_a body_n have_v a_o great_a advantage_n in_o its_o work_n and_o in_o that_o case_n the_o day_n of_o health_n and_o strength_n be_v good_a day_n in_o prayer_n although_o the_o strength_n and_o force_n of_o prayer_n do_v not_o lie_v in_o the_o strength_n of_o the_o side_n or_o loudness_n of_o the_o voice_n yet_o it_o be_v no_o small_a advantage_n to_o the_o spirit_n when_o in_o its_o fervour_n and_o strength_n of_o affection_n it_o gather_v up_o and_o put_v forth_o all_o its_o power_n in_o earnest_a supplication_n before_o the_o throne_n of_o grace_n if_o then_o it_o have_v a_o sound_a healthy_a body_n able_a to_o bear_v the_o intention_n of_o a_o fervent_a spirit_n without_o faint_v or_o distraction_n you_o know_v that_o if_o the_o arrow_n be_v long_o and_o draw_v to_o the_o head_n it_o be_v needful_a that_o the_o bow_n and_o the_o string_n shall_v be_v of_o sufficient_a strength_n to_o hold_v draw_v and_o a_o christian_n that_o will_v not_o also_o quick_a lively_a and_o able_a by_o the_o communion_n with_o the_o body_n the_o soul_n by_o reason_n of_o its_o near_a conjunction_n of_o the_o body_n have_v its_o childhood_n youth_n and_o decay_a time_n in_o young_a year_n it_o have_v those_o golden_a day_n wherein_o the_o understanding_n be_v quick_a in_o apprehension_n teachable_a and_o apt_a to_o receive_v impression_n the_o memory_n faithful_a the_o judgement_n good_a and_o sound_a the_o affection_n strong_a and_o stir_a therefore_o these_o be_v the_o good_a day_n wherein_o it_o be_v fit_a to_o be_v use_v in_o the_o work_n and_o service_n of_o god_n and_o as_o in_o the_o spring_n all_o these_o concur_v together_o the_o tree_n in_o their_o fresh_a clothing_n the_o face_n of_o the_o earth_n renew_v the_o beauty_n of_o herb_n and_o flower_n together_o with_o the_o sun_n be_v shine_v bright_o in_o his_o strength_n and_o glory_n make_v up_o good_a day_n whereas_o in_o the_o winter_n the_o brightness_n of_o the_o sun_n make_v but_o a_o imperfect_a good_a day_n while_o the_o tree_n and_o field_n be_v strip_v dead_a and_o wither_a the_o ground_n cover_v with_o mire_n and_o dirt_n so_o the_o meeting_n of_o these_o together_o the_o birthright_n of_o youth_n the_o strength_n and_o health_n of_o the_o body_n the_o quickness_n of_o the_o sense_n the_o activeness_n and_o abundance_n of_o the_o spirit_n the_o perfection_n of_o the_o soul_n etc._n etc._n make_v the_o day_n of_o youth_n good_a day_n whereas_o although_o in_o the_o winter_n of_o old_a age_n the_o sun_n may_v shine_v the_o principle_n of_o wisdom_n store_v up_o in_o youth_n may_v be_v preserve_v yet_o there_o be_v those_o defect_n natural_o clog_a that_o die_a age_n which_o do_v eclipse_v the_o brightness_n and_o lessen_v the_o goodness_n of_o those_o day_n chap._n iii_o use_v â—_o this_o may_v serve_v to_o reprove_v those_o who_o do_v allow_v some_o fleshly_a liberty_n to_o the_o day_n of_o youth_n many_o who_o themselves_o be_v age_v out_o of_o a_o kind_n of_o fatherly_a experience_a gravity_n as_o they_o will_v have_v man_n think_v and_o out_o of_o a_o kind_n of_o moderation_n to_o which_o their_o year_n have_v bring_v they_o as_o they_o will_v have_v we_o believe_v do_v give_v liberty_n to_o a_o kind_n of_o latitude_n in_o the_o way_n of_o youth_n and_o young_a man_n must_v be_v bear_v with_o who_o doubt_v but_o that_o there_o be_v a_o christian_a moderation_n and_o compassion_n to_o be_v exercise_v towards_o such_o infirmity_n of_o the_o flesh_n which_o the_o spirit_n wrestle_v and_o labour_v against_o either_o in_o young_a or_o old_a when_o the_o heart_n be_v give_v up_o to_o christ_n and_o bring_v under_o the_o sovereign_a command_n of_o his_o glorious_a gospel_n and_o bless_a spirit_n can_v yet_o whole_o free_v itself_o from_o the_o law_n of_o rebellion_n nor_o utter_o shake_v off_o the_o body_n of_o death_n but_o out_o of_o a_o pretence_n of_o levity_n to_o flatter_v the_o enormity_n of_o youth_n and_o to_o excuse_v those_o vicious_a unbridled_a course_n which_o stain_v the_o glory_n of_o those_o best_a day_n what_o be_v it_o but_o to_o say_v that_o hard_a frost_n deep_a snow_n inundation_n thick_a mire_n and_o dirt_n be_v not_o to_o be_v account_v strange_a in_o may_n nor_o to_o be_v wonder_v at_o in_o the_o prime_n and_o spring_n of_o the_o year_n be_v it_o to_o be_v endure_v when_o the_o best_a day_n of_o a_o man_n life_n be_v waste_v away_o in_o such_o course_n as_o be_v contrary_a to_o the_o end_n for_o which_o a_o man_n live_v most_o contrary_a to_o the_o glory_n of_o that_o great_a god_n who_o have_v give_v they_o these_o choice_a day_n of_o youth_n to_o speak_v plain_o when_o be_v you_o more_o careful_a to_o fence_v your_o copse_n pasture_n meadow_n than_o in_o the_o spring_n and_o will_v you_o say_v the_o spring_n of_o our_o life_n which_o be_v the_o time_n of_o youth_n may_v be_v lay_v open_a to_o the_o invasion_n of_o lust_n to_o the_o assault_n of_o satan_n to_o the_o pleasure_n of_o sin_n let_v other_o man_n applaud_v their_o own_o gravity_n and_o condemn_v the_o rashness_n of_o other_o i_o can_v believe_v that_o solomon_n want_v either_o year_n gravity_n wisdom_n or_o due_a moderation_n when_o he_o check_v the_o folly_n of_o youth_n in_o a_o holy_a irony_n eccles._n 11._o and_o set_v before_o all_o vain_a young_a man_n the_o judgement_n of_o the_o great_a day_n show_v that_o for_o all_o these_o thing_n even_o these_o excess_n of_o youth_n they_o shall_v be_v make_v to_o give_v account_n nor_o when_o he_o do_v put_v down_o this_o serious_a admonition_n in_o the_o word_n of_o this_o text_n back_v with_o so_o many_o press_a motive_n remember_v now_o thy_o creator_n in_o the_o day_n of_o thy_o youth_n while_o the_o evil_a day_n come_v not_o etc._n etc._n and_o have_v there_o be_v any_o defect_n in_o the_o penman_n yet_o i_o be_o sure_a the_o holy_a ghost_n which_o hold_v his_o hand_n will_v not_o have_v suffer_v he_o to_o write_v one_o syllable_n amiss_o neither_o
that_o be_v young_a and_o yet_o enjoy_v the_o good_a day_n of_o your_o life_n do_v not_o you_o make_v they_o evil_n remember_v your_o creator_n in_o the_o day_n of_o your_o youth_n take_v heed_n to_o your_o way_n according_a to_o the_o word_n of_o god_n so_o shall_v these_o day_n indeed_o be_v good_a day_n to_o you_o and_o you_o shall_v prepare_v yourselves_o either_o for_o a_o honourable_a old_a age_n or_o for_o a_o bless_a end_n and_o a_o happy_a death_n prevent_v the_o evil_n of_o old_a age_n and_o put_v you_o in_o possession_n of_o everlasting_a life_n which_o never_o seel_v the_o decay_n of_o age._n final_o let_v i_o in_o a_o word_n beseech_v those_o who_o have_v already_o outlive_v their_o best_a day_n to_o look_v back_o serious_o and_o speedy_o upon_o the_o time_n and_o course_n
