either_o with_o judas_n and_o achitophel_n run_v to_o the_o halter_n as_o if_o that_o be_v the_o next_o way_n to_o heal_v it_o or_o by_o diversion_n seek_v to_o put_v it_o off_o as_o cain_n fall_v a_o build_n of_o city_n and_o follow_v his_o pleasure_n if_o so_o he_o may_v charm_v the_o serpent_n bite_v or_o skin_n over_o the_o wound_n or_o wear_v out_o the_o scar_n and_o ruthful_a remembrance_n or_o still_o the_o hideous_a cry_n of_o his_o horrid_a murder_n or_o by_o this_o kind_n of_o dictamne_n cause_v the_o mortal_a arrow_n stick_v in_o his_o side_n to_o loosen_v away_o but_o the_o good_a conscience_n and_o trouble_v be_v that_o which_o for_o sin_n be_v humble_v and_o upon_o repentance_n through_o faith_n hear_v the_o lord_n have_v put_v away_o thy_o sin_n yet_o as_o a_o woman_n with_o her_o afterbirth_n be_v exercise_v with_o grievous_a conflict_n afterward_o it_o be_v david_n case_n after_o his_o absolution_n pronounce_v by_o the_o prophet_n from_o god_n whereupon_o he_o may_v at_o the_o port_n without_o great_a difficulty_n and_o with_o the_o loss_n of_o the_o lade_n and_o wrack_n of_o the_o ship_n so_o god_n child_n as_o david_n though_o upon_o repentance_n for_o sin_n he_o have_v his_o pardon_n seal_v and_o life_n secure_v yet_o so_o hideous_a be_v the_o storm_n of_o renew_a remorse_n for_o sin_n which_o still_o lie_v beat_v upon_o his_o brittle_a bark_n that_o he_o must_v suffer_v much_o damage_n temporal_a before_o he_o can_v upon_o the_o plank_n of_o redubled_a repentance_n waft_v and_o work_v himself_o to_o reach_v the_o calm_a and_o comfortable_a haven_n of_o melita_n this_o be_v that_o conscience_n that_o trouble_a conscience_n of_o the_o conflict_n and_o comfort_n whereof_o we_o be_v here_o to_o speak_v for_o as_o for_o the_o afflict_a bad_a conscience_n as_o of_o all_o such_o as_o live_v in_o a_o know_a sin_n without_o repentance_n and_o now_o and_o then_o be_v trouble_v with_o some_o fearful_a qualm_n come_v over_o their_o stomach_n while_o they_o seek_v to_o have_v not_o the_o cause_n which_o be_v sin_n but_o the_o effect_n only_o remove_v we_o purpose_v not_o to_o be_v trouble_v with_o such_o in_o such_o case_n let_v the_o adulterer_n repent_v and_o beccome_a continent_n the_o drunkard_n repent_v and_o become_v sober_a the_o oppress_a usurer_n repent_v and_o restore_v and_o become_v liberal_a to_o the_o poor_a and_o so_o in_o the_o rest_n otherwise_o never_o let_v they_o look_v for_o any_o true_a comfort_n and_o peace_n of_o conscience_n yet_o for_o their_o better_a instruction_n such_o also_o may_v reap_v much_o help_n by_o this_o treatise_n to_o further_o they_o in_o the_o practice_n of_o true_a repentance_n thereby_o to_o obtain_v true_a peace_n of_o conscience_n for_o here_o we_o propound_v and_o describe_v the_o case_n of_o a_o trouble_a conscience_n in_o the_o high_a degree_n together_o with_o the_o remedy_n of_o it_o that_o so_o no_o trouble_a conscience_n in_o any_o less_o degree_n or_o kind_n may_v here_o fail_v to_o find_v comfort_n in_o time_n of_o need_n for_o he_o that_o know_v how_o to_o cure_v the_o great_a wound_n can_v the_o more_o easy_o cure_v the_o less_o conflict_n and_o comfort_n of_o conscience_n chap._n i._n the_o first_o conflict_n or_o trial_n wherein_o the_o conscience_n of_o a_o man_n regenerate_v apprehend_v god_n wrath_n for_o sin_n be_v perillous_o shake_v it_o be_v the_o nature_n of_o all_o sin_n once_o commit_v by_o guilt_n to_o affect_v the_o conscience_n with_o a_o fearful_a apprehension_n of_o god_n wrath_n both_o temporal_a and_o eternal_a as_o due_a to_o the_o sinner_n it_o be_v decree_v so_o in_o the_o begin_n by_o a_o unchangeable_a law_n of_o god_n in_o the_o day_n thou_o eat_v thereof_o ●_o gen._n ●_o thou_o shall_v die_v the_o death_n case_n of_o man_n conscience_n now_o alter_v can_v the_o member_n of_o christ_n the_o vessel_n of_o grace_n the_o heir_n of_o life_n eternal_a be_v from_o henceforth_o repossess_v with_o any_o such_o apprehension_n as_o of_o god_n wrath_n
