youth_n from_o youth_n to_o riper_n year_n from_o maturity_n to_o old_a age_n and_o never_o mend_v all_o this_o while_n they_o be_v as_o vain_a and_o licentious_a and_o resolute_a and_o peremptory_a in_o sin_n as_o ever_o they_o be_v this_o be_v a_o fearful_a aggravation_n that_o when_o god_n time_n and_o space_n of_o repentance_n yet_o they_o be_v never_o the_o give_v man_n better_a for_o it_o second_o in_o the_o ministerial_a excitement_n and_o awaken_n of_o they_o pass_v on_o notwithstanding_o these_o how_o many_o people_n be_v there_o that_o daily_o hear_v of_o the_o sin_n which_o be_v upon_o they_o in_o the_o preach_a and_o ministry_n of_o the_o word_n who_o notwithstanding_o persist_v in_o they_o and_o resolve_v to_o do_v so_o still_o this_o be_v a_o very_a sad_a condition_n when_o as_o admonition_n and_o warn_v do_v not_o mend_v we_o yet_o this_o be_v the_o case_n with_o abundance_n of_o person_n though_o they_o hear_v of_o their_o sin_n daily_o and_o of_o the_o danger_n which_o belong_v unto_o they_o yet_o for_o all_o that_o they_o pass_v on_o be_v not_o this_o now_o a_o piece_n of_o wonderful_a sottishness_n and_o stupidity_n in_o they_o yet_o thus_o it_o be_v who_o have_v believe_v our_o report_n or_o to_o who_o be_v the_o arm_n of_o the_o lord_n reveal_v as_o the_o prophet_n isaiah_n speak_v of_o himself_o with_o complaint_n and_o of_o other_o prophet_n with_o he_o if_o man_n give_v we_o the_o hear_n yet_o that_o be_v all_o not_o better_v at_o all_o by_o it_o three_o in_o the_o threaten_n of_o providence_n they_o pass_v on_o notwithstanding_o this_o also_o though_o god_n judgement_n hang_v over_o their_o head_n jye_o at_o their_o door_n yea_o come_v up_o into_o their_o window_n yet_o for_o all_o this_o they_o continue_v in_o their_o sinful_a provocation_n of_o god_n majesty_n and_o wrath_n against_o they_o be_v it_o not_o a_o great_a aggravation_n of_o wickedness_n and_o sinfulness_n in_o the_o old_a world_n that_o as_o noah_n preach_n do_v not_o reform_v they_o so_o neither_o do_v the_o beginning_n of_o the_o deluge_n itself_o but_o they_o pass_v on_o still_o in_o their_o abomination_n till_o the_o flood_n come_v and_o carry_v they_o all_o away_o even_o so_o be_v it_o still_o the_o case_n of_o man_n now_o to_o this_o very_a present_a day_n for_o they_o pass_v on_o and_o be_v punish_v so_o they_o be_v punish_v and_o yet_o still_o they_o pass_v on_o no_o amendment_n or_o reformation_n at_o all_o notwithstanding_o god_n judgement_n both_o threaten_v against_o they_o and_o likewise_o in_o part_n execute_v and_o fulfil_v upon_o they_o and_o yet_o still_o as_o bad_a as_o ever_o they_o be_v and_o their_o wickedness_n remain_v in_o they_o as_o much_o as_o ever_o before_o yea_o even_o there_o where_o there_o be_v some_o pretence_n of_o reformation_n and_o proffer_n towards_o it_o covenant_n and_o engagement_n to_o it_o yet_o it_o be_v not_o real_o and_o thorough_o effect_v man_n perhaps_o abstain_v for_o a_o while_n and_o some_o short_a time_n from_o their_o sinful_a course_n but_o then_o they_o return_v to_o they_o and_o come_v on_o to_o they_o again_o like_o the_o dog_n to_o his_o vomit_n and_o what_o be_v the_o reason_n of_o all_o this_o but_o because_o there_o be_v no_o inward_a change_n wrought_v in_o their_o heart_n that_o be_v the_o reason_n why_o wicked_a man_n pass_v on_o and_o continue_v still_o in_o sin_n without_o little_a amendment_n because_o they_o have_v no_o contrary_a principle_n curb_v they_o and_o restrain_v they_o and_o put_v a_o check_n upon_o they_o as_o to_o the_o pursuit_n of_o they_o till_o this_o be_v once_o wrought_v in_o they_o all_o without_o they_o will_v do_v they_o no_o good_a whether_o of_o mercy_n or_o judgement_n or_o correction_n or_o instruction_n or_o example_n or_o whatever_o it_o be_v but_o still_o they_o will_v be_v where_o they_o be_v that_o be_v one_o thing_n employ_v in_o this_o expression_n to_o wit_n constancy_n and_o persevere_v in_o sin_v pass_v no_o so_o the_o second_o be_v increase_v and_o add_v to_o it_o they_o pass_v on_o that_o be_v grow_v worse_o and_o worse_o look_v as_o on_o the_o other_o side_n a_o good_a christian_a he_o be_v still_o the_o better_a by_o all_o god_n deal_n towards_o he_o at_o least_o labour_n and_o endeavour_n to_o be_v so_o to_o pass_v on_o from_o strength_n to_o strength_n and_o to_o go_v from_o one_o measure_n and_o degree_n of_o grace_n to_o another_o so_o a_o wicked_a man_n he_o be_v still_o the_o worse_o every_o day_n he_o be_v more_o harden_v and_o confirm_v in_o sin_n than_o he_o be_v at_o another_o he_o do_v not_o only_o continue_v in_o sin_n but_o improve_v and_o promote_v it_o the_o ground_n hereof_o be_v this_o first_o the_o seem_a sweetness_n of_o sin_n which_o he_o have_v already_o taste_v and_o be_v partaker_n of_o this_o still_o tickle_v he_o and_o persuade_v he_o and_o draw_v he_o on_o further_a sin_n be_v very_o deceitful_a and_o harden_v lest_o any_o of_o you_o be_v harden_v through_o the_o deceitfulness_n of_o sin_n say_v the_o apostle_n to_o the_o hebrew_n heb._n 3.13_o it_o be_v a_o caution_n which_o have_v some_o bottom_n and_o foundation_n for_o it_o god_n when_o this_o must_v be_v do_v indeed_o and_o it_o be_v not_o only_o speak_v of_o when_o it_o be_v a_o thing_n which_o can_v be_v avoid_v but_o be_v certain_o irreversible_o conclude_v this_o and_o representation_n of_o it_o as_o that_o which_o have_v death_n and_o hell_n at_o the_o end_n of_o it_o that_o so_o we_o may_v the_o better_o be_v keep_v and_o preserve_v from_o it_o we_o shall_v make_v use_n of_o this_o present_a doctrine_n now_o in_o all_o suggestion_n and_o temptation_n to_o sin_n which_o we_o be_v at_o any_o time_n put_v upon_o think_v not_o upon_o sin_n in_o the_o profit_n of_o it_o or_o in_o the_o pleasure_n of_o it_o which_o be_v but_o a_o mere_a fancy_n though_o it_o usual_o show_v itself_o so_o but_o think_v of_o it_o in_o the_o end_n of_o it_o and_o in_o the_o concomitant_n of_o it_o and_o in_o the_o sad_a and_o pernicious_a effect_n which_o be_v death_n and_o damnation_n itself_o which_o though_o man_n perceive_v not_o present_o yet_o at_o last_o they_o shall_v find_v to_o their_o cost_n if_o they_o take_v not_o better_a care_n to_o prevent_v it_o as_o the_o apostle_n peter_n speak_v of_o they_o their_o judgement_n now_o of_o a_o long_a time_n linger_v not_o and_o their_o damnation_n slumber_v not_o let_v we_o not_o look_v upon_o these_o thing_n as_o word_n and_o notion_n and_o expression_n as_o bugbear_n to_o scare_v child_n but_o as_o reality_n and_o unquestionable_a truth_n and_o let_v we_o labour_n to_o find_v the_o power_n and_o efficacy_n of_o they_o upon_o our_o own_o heart_n it_o be_v better_a to_o hear_v of_o they_o than_o to_o feel_v they_o and_o to_o feel_v they_o now_o in_o the_o conscience_n by_o be_v affect_v and_o wrought_v upon_o by_o they_o than_o to_o feel_v they_o hereafter_o after_o another_o manner_n as_o all_o such_o shall_v which_o now_o make_v nothing_o of_o they_o let_v all_o which_o have_v be_v say_v make_v we_o so_o much_o the_o more_o out_o of_o love_n with_o sin_n and_o if_o one_o argument_n alone_o will_v not_o do_v it_o let_v we_o take_v they_o all_o together_o as_o the_o holy_a ghost_n do_v here_o offer_v they_o to_o we_o here_o be_v a_o threesold_a cord_n which_o theresore_n be_v not_o easy_o break_v and_o if_o one_o or_o two_o shall_v fail_v yet_o the_o other_o will_v make_v amends_o for_o the_o rest_n those_o which_o have_v a_o mind_n to_o sin_n yet_o if_o it_o appear_v to_o be_v any_o prejudice_n to_o their_o profit_n that_o they_o get_v no_o good_a nor_o benefit_n by_o it_o it_o may_v be_v here_o they_o will_v be_v restrain_v now_o for_o this_o consider_v say_v the_o apostle_n that_o there_o be_v no_o such_o sad_a fruit_n in_o it_o other_o there_o be_v which_o do_v not_o stand_v upon_o their_o prosit_fw-la but_o their_o honour_n that_o go_v near_o unto_o they_o and_o they_o be_v loath_a to_o forfeit_v their_o credit_n and_o reputation_n now_o for_o this_o consider_v that_o these_o thing_n bring_v shame_n whereof_o you_o be_v now_o ashamed_a a_o three_o there_o be_v which_o be_v not_o move_v yet_o they_o care_v neither_o for_o profit_v no_o honour_n so_o they_o may_v have_v their_o pleasure_n and_o safety_n and_o ease_n but_o their_o skin_n that_o a_o little_a affect_v they_o and_o their_o life_n go_v to_o their_o heart_n and_o be_v very_o dear_a unto_o they_o all_o they_o have_v they_o will_v part_v with_o for_o this_o now_o therefore_o consider_v here_o further_o that_o it_o be_v death_n and_o if_o there_o be_v any_o that_o stick_v not_o at_o this_o yet_o if_o they_o have_v any_o care_v but_o of_o their_o own_o soul_n consider_v further_o that_o it_o be_v damnation_n not_o only_o natural_a the_o death_n of_o the_o body_n but_o spriritual_a the_o death_n of_o the_o soul_n yea_o eternal_a the_o death_n of_o both_o and_o as_o censure_n upon_o the_o performance_n what_o fruit_n have_v you_o in_o those_o thing_n etc._n etc._n but_o here_o be_v also_o a_o censure_n upon_o the_o state_n what_o fruit_n have_v you_o then_o then_o when_o you_o be_v unregenerate_a than_o you_o be_v in_o your_o natural_a condition_n then_o when_o you_o be_v at_o the_o present_a unconvert_v and_o as_o yet_o not_o bring_v home_o to_o god_n what_o fruit_n have_v you_o then_o whatever_o have_v be_v say_v of_o sin_n it_o may_v be_v apply_v in_o this_o a_o unregenerate_a condition_n be_v a_o unfruitful_a condition_n a_o shameful_a condition_n a_o dead_a and_o mortal_a condition_n all_o the_o time_n that_o any_o man_n spend_v and_o live_v only_o in_o that_o he_o do_v but_o lose_v his_o time_n and_o run_v further_o upon_o the_o score_n with_o god_n for_o a_o back-reckoning_a hereafter_o we_o be_v all_o by_o nature_n the_o child_n of_o wrath_n ephes_n 2.3_o what_o be_v the_o improvement_n which_o be_v to_o be_v make_v of_o to_o do_v both_o for_o themselves_o and_o other_o for_o ourselves_o if_o we_o have_v no_o better_a principle_n in_o we_o than_o we_o bring_v with_o we_o at_o first_o into_o the_o world_n we_o be_v but_o in_o a_o sad_a a_o miserable_a condition_n although_o perhaps_o we_o shall_v abound_v in_o some_o kind_n of_o outward_a and_o moral_a action_n which_o may_v have_v some_o lustre_n and_o splendour_n upon_o they_o as_o the_o heathem_n have_v what_o fruit_n have_v you_o in_o those_o we_o may_v say_v it_o not_o only_o of_o those_o action_n which_o be_v plain_a sin_n in_o their_o nature_n but_o in_o a_o sense_n also_o of_o those_o which_o for_o the_o matter_n of_o they_o be_v duty_n themselves_o yet_o not_o do_v in_o a_o right_a manner_n and_o from_o a_o right_a principle_n what_o fruit_n have_v you_o then_o in_o those_o thing_n whereof_o you_o be_v now_o ashamed_a the_o sacrifice_n of_o the_o wicked_a say_v solomon_n be_v a_o abomination_n to_o the_o lord_n how_o much_o more_o that_o which_o can_v be_v avoid_v at_o least_o any_o other_o way_n than_o by_o turn_v from_o it_o sin_n without_o this_o shall_v be_v punish_v that_o be_v determine_v and_o resolve_v upon_o and_o because_o it_o be_v so_o indeed_o therefore_o here_o speak_v of_o as_o if_o it_o be_v do_v already_o especial_o progress_n in_o time_n increase_v and_o add_v to_o it_o which_o be_v here_o also_o further_o employ_v wicked_a man_n shall_v be_v punish_v for_o their_o wickedness_n simple_o consider_v but_o their_o continuance_n and_o improvement_n in_o it_o shall_v both_o increase_v and_o hasten_v their_o punishment_n so_o much_o the_o more_o when_o they_o pass_v on_o then_o punish_v especial_o because_o the_o further_o they_o run_v in_o debt_n the_o more_o they_o provoke_v the_o creditor_n to_o exact_v that_o which_o be_v his_o own_o the_o use_v which_o we_o be_v to_o make_v of_o it_o be_v to_o believe_v it_o and_o to_o tremble_v at_o it_o and_o upon_o this_o consideration_n so_o much_o the_o rather_o to_o take_v heed_n of_o sin_n and_o the_o aggravation_n of_o it_o forasmuch_o as_o we_o see_v here_o the_o end_n and_o conclusion_n of_o it_o and_o that_o be_v punishment_n either_o now_o or_o hereafter_o either_o here_o or_o in_o a_o worse_a place_n and_o we_o shall_v lay_v these_o consideration_n before_o we_o in_o all_o tempation_n and_o provocation_n to_o sin_n what_o ever_o they_o be_v there_o be_v reason_n to_o take_v we_o off_o from_o it_o and_o to_o keep_v we_o from_o the_o commit_n of_o it_o if_o we_o do_v but_o consider_v the_o vileness_n and_o it_o may_v refer_v also_o to_o their_o security_n they_o pass_v on_o and_o be_v punish_v that_o be_v they_o be_v punish_v because_o they_o pass_v on_o and_o so_o it_o have_v this_o in_o it_o that_o security_n be_v a_o great_a promoter_n of_o punishment_n the_o more_o secure_a that_o any_o be_v in_o sin_n the_o more_o likely_a to_o be_v punish_v for_o sin_n their_o punishment_n do_v now_o advance_v and_o do_v come_v on_o so_o much_o the_o fast_o upon_o they_o as_o that_o which_o they_o shall_v not_o escape_v this_o there_o be_v a_o double_a ground_n and_o reason_n for_o the_o one_o in_o the_o nature_n of_o the_o thing_n the_o other_o in_o the_o justice_n of_o god_n first_o in_o the_o nature_n of_o the_o thing_n in_o self_n it_o must_v needs_o be_v so_o he_o that_o see_v not_o the_o pit_n but_o pass_v on_o he_o must_v needs_o fall_v into_o it_o this_o be_v the_o case_n of_o a_o secure_a person_n punishment_n and_o judgement_n be_v before_o he_o and_o yet_o he_o see_v it_o not_o he_o promise_v himself_o peace_n and_o safety_n even_o when_o ruin_n and_o destruction_n be_v upon_o he_o and_o then_o second_o in_o the_o justice_n of_o god_n who_o think_v himself_o in_o this_o case_n engage_v to_o proceed_v to_o punishment_n so_o much_o the_o rather_o as_o be_v by_o this_o temper_n more_o discredit_v and_o contemn_v in_o his_o proceed_n for_o the_o secure_a person_n do_v despise_v all_o god_n threaten_n and_o warn_n and_o beginning_n of_o judgement_n upon_o he_o and_o this_o be_v that_o which_o god_n will_v not_o endure_v but_o will_n most_o certain_o call_v to_o a_o account_n and_o reckon_a for_o now_o let_v we_o lay_v all_o these_o thing_n together_o and_o for_o the_o right_a use_n and_o improvement_n of_o they_o let_v we_o consider_v how_o far_o we_o be_v interest_v and_o concern_v in_o they_o how_o far_o we_o do_v partake_v of_o the_o prudent_a man_n and_o how_o far_o we_o do_v take_v share_n with_o the_o simple_a let_v we_o search_v and_o examine_v our_o heart_n in_o each_o particular_a and_o see_v whether_o or_o no_o in_o this_o respect_n we_o may_v not_o just_o take_v up_o a_o complaint_n against_o ourselves_o the_o name_n of_o wise_a and_o foolish_a be_v such_o title_n as_o we_o common_o look_v upon_o with_o a_o great_a deal_n of_o affection_n there_o be_v nothing_o which_o man_n do_v more_o abhor_v and_o disdain_v than_o to_o be_v account_v fool_n nor_o affect_v than_o to_o be_v reckon_v and_o esteem_v as_o wise_a men._n now_o see_v how_o far_o we_o do_v indeed_o prove_v to_o be_v so_o upon_o this_o discovery_n of_o it_o it_o be_v a_o point_n which_o be_v here_o determine_v to_o we_o by_o god_n himself_o who_o be_v the_o wise_a god_n and_o so_o best_a able_a to_o judge_v and_o to_o discern_v either_o of_o folly_n or_o wisdom_n and_o we_o see_v here_o how_o he_o bring_v it_o to_o this_o issue_n for_o the_o proof_n of_o either_o according_o as_o we_o stand_v affect_v towards_o his_o judgement_n and_o executious_a upon_o sin_n now_o therefore_o by_o this_o touchstone_n let_v we_o prove_v and_o make_v trial_n of_o ourselves_o what_o kind_n of_o person_n indeed_o we_o be_v first_o as_o to_o the_o foresight_n of_o evil_a what_o share_n we_o have_v in_o that_o whether_o or_o no_o be_v our_o wit_n about_o we_o in_o this_o particular_a to_o apprehend_v god_n threaten_v of_o we_o and_o express_v himself_o to_o be_v against_o we_o by_o his_o proceed_n towards_o we_o sure_o if_o this_o be_v the_o property_n of_o prudent_a man_n the_o great_a number_n will_v appear_v to_o be_v simple_a who_o for_o the_o most_o part_n be_v very_o stupid_a and_o senseless_a in_o this_o particular_a most_o man_n be_v as_o st._n peter_n express_v it_o blind_a and_o which_o can_v see_v afar_o off_o 2_o pet._n 1.9_o afar_o off_o nay_o indeed_o near_o at_o hand_n and_o in_o the_o very_a approach_n of_o judgement_n which_o put_v far_o away_o from_o they_o the_o evil_a day_n as_o it_o be_v say_v of_o they_o in_o the_o prophet_n amos_n 6.3_o and_o again_o in_o the_o prophet_n micah_n be_v not_o the_o lord_n among_o we_o no_o evil_n can_v come_v upon_o we_o mic._n 3.11_o now_o how_o far_o then_o be_v these_o here_o from_o do_v deserve_v the_o name_n of_o prudent_a person_n but_o they_o be_v not_o many_o which_o be_v of_o this_o number_n the_o generality_n of_o the_o world_n they_o sin_n and_o pass_v on_o and_o be_v punish_v or_o at_o least_o will_v be_v as_o take_v such_o way_n and_o course_n which_o do_v threaten_v as_o much_o unto_o they_o let_v we_o but_o look_v a_o little_a abroad_o into_o the_o world_n and_o see_v how_o it_o be_v there_o with_o we_o whether_o sin_n do_v not_o as_o much_o abound_v in_o the_o land_n and_o in_o this_o city_n as_o ever_o it_o do_v notwithsand_v all_o god_n judgement_n upon_o we_o both_o inflict_v and_o threaten_v by_o error_n in_o judgement_n corruption_n in_o practice_n licentiousness_n of_o conversation_n pride_n luxury_n wantonness_n excess_n in_o apparel_n immodest_a and_o lascivious_a attire_n or_o rather_o indeed_o want_v of_o attire_n lay_v open_a their_o own_o shame_n and_o nakedness_n in_o a_o most_o uncivil_a manner_n such_o a_o miscarriage_n that_o not_o only_o in_o such_o person_n as_o be_v not_o so_o well_o instruct_v but_o even_o in_o those_o which_o be_v better_a teach_v and_o shall_v be_v example_n to_o other_o professor_n of_o godliness_n and_o religion_n they_o be_v oftentimes_o too_o shameful_o guilty_a of_o exorbitancy_n in_o this_o particular_a both_o to_o the_o scandal_n of_o religion_n itself_o and_o to_o the_o
