and_o say_v thou_o be_v the_o death_n of_o my_o father_n and_o then_o he_o will_v give_v he_o one_o blow_n for_o this_o and_o another_o blow_n for_o that_o and_o say_v thou_o wretch_n thou_o have_v take_v away_o the_o life_n of_o my_o father_n and_o i_o will_v have_v thy_o life_n now_o be_v a_o man_n thus_o enrage_v and_o be_v the_o heart_n of_o a_o man_n carry_v with_o such_o violence_n unto_o he_o that_o have_v murder_v his_o father_n or_o his_o friend_n and_o that_o for_o the_o loss_n of_o the_o natural_a life_n oh_o then_o how_o shall_v your_o heart_n be_v transport_v with_o infinite_a indignation_n not_o against_o the_o man_n but_o even_o against_o the_o sin_n which_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o all_o this_o and_o which_o be_v whole_o opposite_a against_o god_n and_o not_o only_o have_v thus_o slay_v the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n the_o lord_n of_o life_n therefore_o follow_v thou_o the_o law_n against_o these_o sin_n and_o raise_v hue_n and_o cry_n after_o they_o and_o bring_v they_o to_o the_o session_n and_o set_v they_o before_o the_o tribunal_n of_o god_n and_o cry_v justice_n lord_n justice_n against_o these_o sin_n of_o i_o these_o slay_v my_o saviour_n lord_n slay_v they_o they_o have_v crucify_v my_o saviour_n lord_n crucify_v they_o let_v i_o have_v life_n for_o life_n body_n for_o body_n and_o soul_n for_o soul_n these_o be_v the_o sin_n that_o have_v take_v away_o the_o life_n from_o the_o body_n of_o our_o saviour_n and_o take_v away_o all_o comfort_n from_o his_o soul_n lord_n take_v away_o their_o life_n thus_o pursue_v thy_o sin_n and_o never_o leave_v they_o until_o thou_o see_v they_o bleed_v their_o last_o never_o think_v that_o thou_o have_v power_n enough_o against_o corruption_n nor_o never_o think_v that_o thou_o do_v enough_o any_o corruption_n or_o to_o any_o temptation_n of_o satan_n and_o when_o thou_o find_v thy_o soul_n draw_v aside_o to_o any_o sin_n and_o when_o thou_o find_v some_o tempt_n unto_o corruption_n and_o stir_n of_o curse_a lust_n it_o be_v good_a then_o to_o have_v a_o actual_a consideration_n of_o what_o sin_n have_v do_v to_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n and_o reason_n thus_o with_o thyself_o and_o say_v these_o sin_n be_v the_o death_n of_o my_o saviour_n and_o shall_v they_o be_v my_o delight_n these_o sin_n do_v pierce_v his_o hand_n and_o wound_v his_o soul_n and_o shall_v they_o give_v contentment_n to_o my_o soul_n the_o lord_n forbid_v do_v these_o sin_n pluck_v tear_n from_o his_o eye_n and_o blood_n from_o his_o heart_n and_o shall_v i_o make_v they_o the_o delight_n of_o that_o we_o shall_v so_o delight_v in_o they_o and_o lavish_a out_o our_o soul_n and_o affection_n thereupon_o nay_o not_o only_a christianity_n will_v do_v it_o but_o nature_n and_o reason_n will_v even_o compel_v a_o man_n to_o do_v the_o contrary_a can_v he_o but_o reason_n thus_o with_o himself_o when_o corruption_n tempt_v he_o and_o occasion_n call_v he_o and_o say_v thus_o with_o himself_o be_v it_o not_o enough_o and_o more_o than_o enough_o that_o the_o son_n of_o god_n come_v down_o from_o heaven_n and_o suffer_v such_o grievous_a pain_n but_o shall_v i_o again_o crucify_v the_o of_o the_o former_a part_n of_o the_o answer_n namely_o that_o our_o saviour_n suffer_v the_o death_n natural_a now_o our_o saviour_n do_v not_o only_o suffer_v in_o his_o body_n but_o he_o suffer_v in_o his_o soul_n also_o you_o may_v conceive_v of_o it_o in_o two_o particular_n first_o there_o be_v a_o real_a withdraw_n of_o the_o sense_n and_o feel_n of_o the_o mercy_n and_o compassion_n of_o god_n a_o stoppage_n as_o i_o may_v say_v and_o a_o take_n off_o the_o sweet_a operation_n of_o god_n love_n and_o favour_n from_o the_o soul_n when_o that_o sensible_a refresh_n and_o conveyance_n of_o the_o mercy_n and_o kindness_n of_o god_n countenance_n be_v turn_v away_o from_o the_o soul_n this_o be_v a_o part_n of_o the_o second_o death_n and_o this_o be_v the_o pain_n of_o loss_n that_o be_v the_o poor_a sinner_n lose_v that_o sweet_a influence_n of_o that_o abundant_a mercy_n and_o compassion_n and_o that_o sweetness_n that_o be_v in_o all_o those_o glorious_a attribute_n which_o shall_v fill_v the_o soul_n with_o satisfactory_a sweetness_n and_o content_n as_o thus_o sometime_o it_o please_v god_n to_o discover_v those_o pain_n of_o hell_n unto_o his_o servant_n here_o on_o lord_n seem_v to_o cast_v he_o away_o and_o to_o send_v he_o pack_v and_o he_o seem_v to_o be_v cast_v away_o in_o his_o own_o apprehension_n both_o these_o you_o shall_v see_v conclude_v on_o in_o job_n 13.24_o thou_o râ—est_v bitter_a thing_n against_o i_o and_o hide_v thy_o face_n away_o from_o i_o and_o take_v i_o for_o thy_o enemy_n the_o lord_n not_o only_o go_v away_o and_o hide_v he_o that_o so_o i_o may_v carry_v the_o cause_n with_o as_o much_o plainness_n and_o nakedness_n as_o may_v be_v that_o each_o poor_a creature_n may_v get_v something_o give_v i_o leave_v to_o answer_v the_o question_n in_o these_o conclusion_n one_o will_v make_v way_n for_o another_o only_o here_o let_v i_o tell_v you_o thus_o much_o that_o i_o mean_v only_o to_o make_v declaration_n of_o the_o because_o of_o the_o weakness_n and_o the_o sinfulness_n of_o the_o creature_n that_o can_v not_o bear_v the_o wrath_n of_o the_o lord_n and_o hence_o he_o despair_n and_o the_o soul_n say_v alas_o i_o be_o weak_a and_o a_o poor_a sin_n creature_n and_o this_o wrath_n of_o the_o lord_n be_v of_o a_o infinite_a vigour_n i_o shall_v never_o be_v able_a to_o bear_v it_o nor_o to_o get_v from_o under_o it_o therefore_o i_o despair_v and_o cast_v away_o all_o hope_n of_o help_n but_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n be_v perfect_a god_n and_o perfect_a man_n have_v a_o great_a flame_n of_o holy_a affection_n kindle_v in_o he_o by_o the_o spirit_n of_o the_o father_n this_o do_v assist_v he_o hereby_o to_o bear_v the_o wrath_n of_o god_n in_o his_o soul_n and_o not_o only_o be_v he_o able_a to_o bear_v it_o but_o to_o overcome_v it_o and_o although_o he_o be_v toss_v up_o and_o down_o in_o the_o sea_n of_o god_n wrath_n yet_o he_o be_v not_o drown_v and_o though_o he_o sip_v of_o the_o poison_n yet_o he_o be_v not_o poison_v therefore_o he_o bear_v the_o pain_n of_o the_o second_o death_n and_o overcome_v they_o and_o do_v not_o despair_v he_o expect_v to_o receive_v good_a he_o have_v so_o deep_o drink_v of_o the_o cup_n of_o affliction_n he_o say_v now_o it_o be_v finish_v that_o be_v now_o the_o fierce_a indignation_n of_o the_o lord_n be_v over_o take_v a_o little_a child_n or_o infant_n new_o bear_v and_o lay_v it_o in_o a_o little_a stream_n if_o no_o man_n come_v to_o succour_v it_o there_o can_v be_v no_o hope_n that_o it_o will_v live_v not_o proper_o because_o of_o the_o water_n but_o because_o the_o child_n be_v weak_a and_o not_o able_a to_o keep_v itself_o from_o be_v overpowr_v by_o the_o water_n and_o therefore_o there_o be_v no_o hope_n to_o have_v relief_n for_o it_o but_o let_v a_o strong_a man_n come_v and_o he_o will_v not_o be_v drown_v by_o the_o stream_n for_o he_o be_v of_o height_n and_o strength_n either_o to_o wade_v through_o it_o or_o else_o to_o save_v himself_o by_o swim_v so_o there_o be_v the_o stream_n of_o the_o indignation_n of_o the_o lord_n now_o god_n will_v not_o help_v a_o poor_a sinful_a creature_n and_o he_o can_v help_v himself_o therefore_o the_o stream_n will_v destroy_v he_o and_o there_o be_v no_o hope_n for_o he_o be_v never_o able_a to_o free_v himself_o because_o god_n will_v not_o and_o he_o himself_o can_v but_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n that_o have_v skill_n and_o power_n because_o he_o be_v god_n as_o well_o as_o man_n therefore_o though_o he_o bear_v the_o wrath_n of_o god_n yet_o because_o he_o be_v able_a to_o wade_v through_o it_o and_o to_o bear_v it_o therefore_o it_o be_v that_o he_o will_v deliver_v himself_o and_o all_o we_o with_o he_o thus_o you_o see_v that_o desperation_n be_v a_o consequent_a that_o follow_v from_o the_o sinfulness_n and_o weakness_n of_o the_o creature_n and_o that_o it_o be_v no_o part_n of_o the_o second_o death_n the_o second_o part_n of_o this_o conclusion_n follow_v and_o i_o desire_v it_o may_v be_v attend_v to_o by_o all_o you_o that_o be_v weak_a one_o for_o this_o objection_n do_v put_v many_o divine_n themselves_o to_o a_o stand_n and_o yet_o the_o case_n be_v very_o clear_a so_o far_o as_o my_o light_n and_o line_n serve_v i_o second_o the_o eternity_n of_o the_o punishment_n say_v they_o for_o if_o christ_n suffer_v the_o pain_n of_o the_o second_o death_n than_o he_o must_v be_v in_o hell_n for_o ever_o it_o be_v a_o weak_a and_o a_o sinful_a plea_n i_o say_v our_o saviour_n may_v and_o do_v suffer_v the_o second_o death_n and_o yet_o not_o the_o eternity_n of_o it_o i_o beseech_v you_o to_o take_v notice_n of_o two_o thing_n herein_o first_o you_o must_v take_v notice_n of_o the_o difference_n between_o the_o death_n threaten_v and_o the_o death_n denounce_v and_o between_o the_o torment_n of_o hell_n also_o between_o the_o eternity_n of_o time_n and_o the_o circumstance_n of_o time_n that_o may_v be_v alter_v and_o change_v as_o the_o debt_n or_o punishment_n be_v full_o suffer_v or_o not_o suffer_v as_o for_o example_n the_o time_n of_o a_o man_n lie_v in_o prison_n be_v no_o part_n of_o the_o payment_n but_o he_o do_v lie_v in_o prison_n because_o he_o can_v pay_v the_o debt_n as_o thus_o a_o man_n be_v in_o prison_n for_o a_o thousand_o pound_n &_o he_o must_v lie_v in_o prison_n ten_o year_n because_o he_o can_v pay_v but_o a_o hundred_o pound_n a_o year_n but_o now_o let_v a_o rich_a man_n come_v that_o can_v discharge_v the_o payment_n within_o ten_o month_n or_o ten_o day_n or_o ten_o hour_n it_o be_v as_o well_o if_o he_o do_v it_o in_o ten_o hour_n as_o if_o he_o do_v it_o in_o ten_o year_n nay_o it_o be_v better_a do_v just_o so_o it_o be_v here_o the_o debt_n be_v this_o in_o the_o day_n that_o thou_o eat_v thereof_o thou_o shall_v die_v the_o death_n the_o punishment_n be_v death_n and_o every_o poor_a creature_n must_v die_v the_o first_o and_o second_o death_n now_o because_o a_o poor_a creature_n can_v satisfy_v god_n justice_n 〈◊〉_d this_o life_n for_o if_o god_n shall_v but_o let_v in_o the_o power_n of_o his_o wrath_n in_o this_o life_n into_o the_o soul_n and_o fill_v the_o soul_n with_o his_o fierce_a indignation_n it_o will_v kill_v a_o man_n even_o in_o this_o life_n therefore_o the_o lord_n by_o death_n take_v away_o a_o poor_a here_o therefore_o thou_o shall_v die_v and_o be_v make_v immortal_a that_o thou_o may_v bear_v it_o for_o evermore_o because_o a_o man_n can_v pay_v it_o now_o therefore_o he_o be_v pay_v of_o it_o to_o all_o eternity_n for_o he_o be_v never_o able_a to_o pay_v and_o satisfy_v for_o the_o whole_a sum_n but_o now_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n have_v cash_n ready_a at_o hand_n and_o be_v able_a to_o lay_v down_o the_o payment_n for_o all_o the_o faithful_a to_o the_o full_a he_o lay_v down_o the_o life_n natural_a and_o he_o also_o suffer_v the_o pain_n of_o the_o second_o death_n therefore_o he_o be_v able_a to_o deliver_v himself_o and_o all_o those_o that_o be_v he_o first_o of_o all_o 1_o use_v 1_o have_v our_o saviour_n thus_o suffer_v and_o have_v he_o step_v in_o between_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n the_o father_n and_o the_o faithful_a justice_n say_v that_o foul_a have_v sin_v and_o must_v be_v damn_v and_o anger_n say_v i_o must_v break_v out_o against_o that_o poor_a soul_n then_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n step_v in_o and_o say_v i_o will_v bear_v all_o and_o undertake_v the_o satisfy_n of_o all_o i_o will_v bear_v all_o those_o punishment_n due_a unto_o they_o you_o that_o be_v believer_n and_o have_v a_o share_n in_o christ_n unto_o you_o i_o speak_v labour_v thou_o from_o hence_o to_o see_v the_o heinousness_n of_o sin_n and_o to_o hate_v it_o because_o it_o have_v bring_v all_o this_o evil_a upon_o thy_o saviour_n and_o will_v have_v bring_v the_o same_o upon_o thou_o have_v not_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n step_v in_o between_o thou_o and_o the_o wrath_n of_o the_o father_n oh_o look_v what_o thy_o sin_n have_v do_v unto_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n and_o see_v if_o you_o can_v love_v it_o &_o take_v contentment_n in_o the_o commission_n of_o it_o let_v i_o teach_v you_o how_o to_o do_v it_o send_v your_o thought_n afar_o off_o and_o see_v our_o saviour_n in_o the_o garden_n cry_v out_o and_o say_v my_o soul_n be_v exceed_o heavy_a unto_o the_o death_n my_o soul_n be_v even_o beset_v with_o sorrow_n oh_o watch_n and_o pray_v and_o also_o when_o he_o be_v in_o that_o bitter_a agony_n in_o the_o garden_n and_o he_o pray_v yet_o more_o earnest_o and_o he_o stretch_v out_o his_o prayer_n that_o it_o break_v his_o heart_n almost_o behold_v the_o tear_n in_o his_o eye_n and_o the_o clod_v blood_n that_o come_v from_o he_o and_o his_o soul_n be_v almost_o break_v within_o he_o under_o the_o fierce_a indignation_n of_o the_o lord_n and_o he_o fall_v upon_o the_o ground_n and_o yet_o all_o this_o will_v not_o do_v the_o deed_n follow_v he_o to_o the_o cross_n and_o see_v he_o attend_v with_o the_o soldier_n and_o pierce_v through_o with_o a_o spear_n see_v then_o if_o thou_o can_v love_v thy_o sin_n that_o have_v do_v all_o this_o and_o further_o when_o you_o have_v see_v he_o thus_o nail_v to_o the_o cross_n and_o pierce_v through_o with_o a_o spear_n then_o if_o you_o have_v any_o heart_n of_o man_n i_o do_v not_o say_v of_o christian_n listen_v a_o while_n and_o here_o those_o hideous_a cry_n my_o god_n my_o god_n why_o have_v thou_o forsake_v i_o oh_o brethren_n it_o have_v thou_o forsake_v oh_o lord_n it_o be_v for_o my_o pride_n and_o my_o contempt_n of_o thy_o word_n and_o my_o despise_n of_o holy_a duty_n and_o for_o the_o rest_n of_o my_o sin_n i_o shall_v have_v be_v forsake_v and_o thou_o be_v content_v to_o be_v forsake_v for_o i_o oh_o can_v you_o consider_v of_o this_o and_o love_v your_o sin_n still_o which_o have_v bring_v all_o this_o misery_n what_o will_v you_o spit_v in_o my_o face_n what_o you_o what_o and_o to_o a_o saviour_n too_o and_o will_v you_o pierce_v my_o soul_n by_o the_o corruption_n of_o your_o heart_n and_o by_o the_o action_n of_o your_o hand_n thus_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n persuade_v you_o to_o see_v sin_n and_o to_o abhor_v and_o 〈◊〉_d it_o upon_o all_o occasion_n and_o therefore_o let_v we_o answer_v the_o request_n of_o our_o saviour_n and_o not_o show_v ourselves_o desperate_o wicked_a to_o pierce_v he_o again_o and_o to_o renew_v his_o suffering_n use_v 2_o in_o the_o second_o place_n do_v pass_v from_o i_o the_o son_n of_o god_n be_v now_o upon_o the_o rack_n with_o it_o if_o it_o be_v possible_a let_v this_o cup_n pass_v from_o i_o let_v i_o only_o have_v a_o sip_n and_o away_o and_o so_o let_v it_o pass_v from_o i_o sure_o if_o any_o thing_n can_v have_v stop_v the_o hand_n of_o divine_a justice_n than_o christ_n may_v have_v do_v it_o but_o god_n will_v not_o nor_o do_v not_o
