place_n beforementioned_a and_o by_o luke_n cap._n 7._o from_o ver_fw-la 1._o to_o ver_fw-la 11._o they_o differ_v chief_o in_o two_o thing_n 1._o luke_n make_v a_o more_o prolix_a and_o large_a relation_n than_o matthew_n and_o therefore_o we_o read_v some_o thing_n there_o not_o mention_v here_o 2._o matthew_n speak_v as_o if_o the_o centurion_n come_v and_o speak_v to_o christ_n in_o person_n v_o 5_o 6._o but_o luke_n tell_v we_o express_o that_o he_o send_v unto_o he_o the_o elder_n of_o the_o jew_n v_o 3._o and_o after_o send_v other_o friend_n to_o meet_v he_o v_o 6._o this_o difference_n have_v make_v some_o conceive_v that_o they_o be_v distinct_a relation_n of_o two_o distinct_a miracle_n but_o without_o ground_n for_o it_o be_v ordinary_a to_o speak_v of_o that_o direct_v this_o exhortation_n to_o prepare_v for_o sickness_n and_o death_n first_o such_o who_o calling_n and_o employment_n do_v expose_v their_o life_n to_o daily_a and_o great_a danger_n as_o watermen_n collier_n carpenter_n mason_n etc._n etc._n these_o man_n by_o a_o leak_n in_o a_o boat_n or_o ship_n a_o fall_n of_o a_o little_a earth_n a_o slip_n of_o a_o foot_n may_v be_v turn_v to_o heaven_n or_o hell_n every_o day_n yet_o we_o often_o see_v that_o many_o who_o live_v in_o the_o great_a danger_n live_v in_o the_o great_a sin_n my_o earnest_a advice_n to_o you_o be_v to_o prepare_v for_o death_n that_o though_o you_o stand_v in_o dangerous_a place_n yet_o you_o may_v stand_v upon_o sure_a ground_n for_o the_o salvation_n of_o your_o soul_n sir_n for_o aught_o i_o know_v you_o may_v get_v heaven_n with_o less_o danger_n than_o you_o get_v your_o live_n remember_v what_o precious_a soul_n you_o have_v and_o that_o every_o time_n you_o venture_v your_o life_n you_o venture_v your_o soul_n too_o labour_v by_o sound_a repentance_n to_o forsake_v your_o sin_n and_o to_o turn_v to_o god_n do_v not_o swear_v and_o lie_v and_o be_v drink_v and_o deceive_v other_o do_v not_o profane_v the_o lord_n day_n if_o you_o expect_v that_o god_n shall_v preserve_v you_o on_o work_a day_n labour_n by_o a_o sound_a faith_n to_o rest_v on_o christ_n to_o save_v your_o guilty_a soul_n see_v your_o nearness_n unto_o eternity_n be_v often_o look_v from_o the_o place_n where_o you_o be_v into_o heaven_n and_o hell_n and_o see_v what_o a_o little_a there_o be_v betwixt_o you_o and_o they_o and_o serious_o consider_v if_o now_o you_o shall_v fall_v into_o eternity_n in_o which_o of_o those_o two_o place_n will_v be_v your_o portion_n get_v such_o a_o save_a knowledge_n of_o god_n that_o you_o may_v comfortable_o commit_v the_o keep_n of_o your_o life_n unto_o he_o and_o solemn_o worship_n god_n in_o your_o closet_n and_o family_n and_o live_v in_o the_o fear_n of_o god_n and_o in_o peace_n with_o he_o and_o use_v your_o calling_n to_o his_o glory_n that_o he_o may_v preserve_v you_o in_o your_o way_n or_o however_o that_o if_o you_o do_v die_v in_o your_o calling_n you_o may_v not_o die_v in_o your_o sin_n second_o such_o who_o though_o they_o have_v ordinary_o present_a case_n and_o health_n yet_o they_o be_v subject_a to_o dangerous_a and_o sudden_a pain_n and_o fearful_a distemper_n as_o convulsion_n falling-sickness_n stone_n etc._n etc._n you_o have_v need_n in_o regard_n of_o these_o to_o be_v always_o prepare_v for_o sickness_n and_o death_n you_o will_v not_o be_v without_o what_o remedy_n you_o can_v get_v when_o your_o distemper_n come_v oh_o do_v not_o be_v without_o god_n and_o christ_n and_o grace_n if_o death_n shall_v come_v in_o they_o whatever_o you_o be_v do_v consider_v now_o my_o distemper_n may_v surprise_v i_o therefore_o if_o they_o take_v you_o in_o bed_n at_o meat_n at_o work_n let_v they_o not_o take_v you_o in_o your_o sin_n in_o all_o likelihood_n these_o fit_n will_v shorten_v your_o day_n therefore_o let_v they_o hasten_v your_o repentance_n these_o distemper_n will_v fill_v you_o with_o torture_a pain_n or_o for_o present_a deprive_v you_o of_o your_o reason_n part_n sense_n etc._n etc._n so_o that_o then_o will_v be_v a_o very_a unfit_a time_n to_o prepare_v for_o death_n therefore_o improve_v your_o time_n of_o health_n and_o ease_n as_o merciful_a opportunity_n that_o when_o your_o disease_n or_o death_n find_v you_o they_o may_v not_o find_v you_o unprovided_a sir_n always_o remember_v that_o you_o carry_v death_n in_o your_o body_n therefore_o be_v sure_a to_o carry_v grace_n in_o your_o soul_n last_o woman_n that_o be_v with_o child_n have_v special_a reason_n to_o be_v prepare_v for_o sickness_n and_o death_n god_n have_v inseparable_o fix_v this_o punishment_n upon_o this_o sex_n that_o in_o sorrow_n they_o shall_v bring_v forth_o child_n gen._n 3.16_o and_o our_o saviour_n tell_v we_o joh._n 16.21_o a_o woman_n when_o she_o be_v in_o travel_n have_v sorrow_n and_o experience_n witness_v the_o grievous_a pang_n and_o pain_n of_o all_o and_o the_o sad_a death_n of_o very_a many_o in_o this_o condition_n so_o that_o thou_o must_v certain_o within_o a_o few_o week_n be_v grievous_o disease_v and_o thou_o may_v probable_o die_v do_v not_o then_o venture_v into_o such_o danger_n in_o a_o christless_a state_n poor_a woman_n perhaps_o thou_o have_v breed_v that_o life_n which_o will_v be_v thy_o own_o death_n therefore_o labour_v to_o find_v that_o christ_n be_v as_o sure_o form_v in_o thy_o heart_n as_o the_o babe_n be_v form_v in_o thy_o womb_n and_o before_o that_o sad_a and_o dangerous_a hour_n of_o the_o birth_n of_o thy_o child_n come_v examine_v thorough_o whether_o the_o new_a birth_n be_v pass_v in_o thy_o soul_n i_o will_v not_o have_v thou_o oppress_v thy_o heart_n with_o the_o dismal_a fore-thought_n and_o distract_n fear_v of_o that_o time_n for_o to_o be_v sure_a sufficient_a to_o that_o day_n will_v be_v the_o evil_a thereof_o but_o i_o will_v have_v thou_o so_o prepare_v that_o the_o short_a pang_n of_o child-bearing_a may_v not_o end_v in_o the_o everlasting_a pang_n and_o torment_n of_o hell_n and_o that_o thou_o may_v be_v a_o new_a creature_n and_o find_v in_o the_o righteousness_n of_o jesus_n christ_n that_o if_o thou_o shall_v no_o long_o live_v with_o thy_o
a_o siege_n or_o famine_n will_v be_v useful_a and_o profitable_a if_o such_o time_n do_v not_o happen_v so_o that_o you_o can_v neither_o be_v well_o nor_o sick_a nor_o live_v nor_o die_v without_o thou_o but_o torment_n and_o nothing_o in_o god_n towards_o thou_o but_o wrath_n belove_a be_v convince_v of_o the_o certainty_n of_o hell_n thou_o may_v as_o certain_o see_v hell_n by_o the_o light_n of_o scripture_n as_o thou_o may_v see_v man_n and_o beast_n and_o earth_n and_o tree_n by_o the_o light_n of_o the_o sun_n hell_n be_v as_o certain_a as_o sin_n and_o sinner_n there_o be_v wrath_n in_o god_n as_o sure_a as_o there_o be_v sin_n in_o man_n god_n justice_n be_v as_o sure_a as_o his_o mercy_n and_o he_o have_v bind_v himself_o to_o condemn_v unbeliever_n as_o well_o as_o to_o save_v believer_n see_v joh._n 3._o ult_n mark_v 16.16_o see_v your_o nearness_n to_o hell_n whilst_o you_o be_v unprepared_a for_o sickness_n and_o death_n methinks_v i_o see_v that_o every_o step_n thou_o go_v thou_o be_v ready_a to_o tread_v in_o the_o flame_n poor_a soul_n thou_o hang_v over_o the_o lake_n of_o brimstone_n by_o the_o twine_a thread_n of_o life_n when_o that_o break_v thou_o be_v drown_v and_o damn_v for_o ever_o there_o be_v nothing_o appear_v between_o thou_o and_o hell_n but_o the_o hand-breadth_n of_o time_n oh_o what_o a_o sight_n be_v this_o to_o see_v a_o company_n of_o secure_a sinner_n drink_v and_o swear_v and_o swagger_a and_o rant_a and_o roar_v within_o a_o hand-breadth_n of_o everlasting_a burn_n again_o consider_v the_o greatness_n of_o hell-torment_n here_o be_v a_o depth_n that_o thou_o can_v not_o fathom_v who_o can_v speak_v of_o the_o greatness_n of_o hell-torment_n when_o it_o be_v our_o duty_n to_o believe_v they_o be_v unspeakable_a can_v thou_o tell_v how_o many_o year_n eternity_n last_v or_o how_o much_o punishment_n sin_n deserve_v do_v thou_o know_v how_o much_o wrath_n omnipotency_n can_v inflict_v or_o how_o much_o torment_n a_o vessel_n of_o wrath_n can_v hold_v then_o may_v thou_o measure_v the_o torment_n of_o hell_n and_o fathom_v the_o lake_n of_o fire_n and_o brimstone_n consider_v but_o this_o one_o thing_n viz._n the_o greatness_n of_o god_n who_o inflict_v the_o torment_n he_o be_v a_o god_n to_o who_o vengeance_n belong_v and_o he_o be_v no_o god_n if_o he_o can_v not_o do_v that_o which_o belong_v to_o he_o consider_v god_n be_v great_a in_o every_o thing_n that_o he_o be_v to_o who_o he_o be_v a_o father_n a_o portion_n a_o husband_n he_o be_v a_o great_a father_n a_o great_a portion_n a_o great_a husband_n to_o who_o he_o be_v a_o enemy_n he_o be_v a_o great_a enemy_n oh_o how_o great_a must_v their_o misery_n be_v who_o must_v for_o ever_o feel_v the_o weight_n of_o that_o hand_n which_o make_v heaven_n and_o earth_n belove_a if_o but_o the_o ache_n of_o a_o tooth_n be_v so_o grievous_a that_o it_o take_v away_o the_o taste_n of_o a_o whole_a monarchy_n of_o the_o world_n while_o it_o last_v how_o inconceiveable_o great_a must_v their_o torment_n be_v who_o have_v the_o power_n that_o make_v all_o the_o world_n set_v a-work_o to_o torment_v their_o body_n and_o soul_n through_o all_o eternity_n nay_o consider_v further_o god_n will_v raise_v up_o his_o glory_n out_o of_o his_o enemy_n misery_n those_o be_v always_o great_a work_n which_o god_n make_v to_o please_v himself_o and_o to_o demonstrate_v his_o glory_n when_o he_o will_v glorify_v his_o power_n and_o goodness_n and_o wisdom_n he_o make_v a_o world_n when_o he_o will_v glorify_v his_o grace_n and_o love_n and_o mercy_n he_o give_v a_o christ_n and_o when_o he_o will_v glorify_v his_o justice_n and_o holiness_n he_o damn_v a_o sinner_n o_o woe_n wo_n wo_n be_v those_o poor_a soul_n out_o of_o who_o torment_n god_n will_v raise_v up_o to_o himself_o a_o everlasting_a revenue_n of_o unspeakable_a glory_n oh_o than_o what_o a_o miserable_a cheat_v soul_n be_v thou_o who_o will_v venture_v to_o be_v one_o hour_n unprepared_a for_o sickness_n and_o death_n when_o for_o aught_o thou_o know_v thou_o may_v be_v in_o the_o bottom_n of_o hell_n before_o the_o clock_n strike_v next_o i_o shall_v now_o in_o the_o last_o place_n conclude_v this_o use_n by_o give_v you_o ten_o direction_n to_o direct_v you_o how_o to_o prepare_v for_o sickness_n and_o death_n direct_v 1._o labour_n by_o a_o strong_a and_o lively_a faith_n to_o be_v always_o receive_v and_o rest_v upon_o the_o righteousness_n of_o jesus_n christ_n belove_a the_o great_a danger_n you_o be_v to_o provide_v against_o be_v that_o sickness_n die_v must_v die_v whilst_o he_o live_v and_o therefore_o paul_n affirm_v it_o to_o be_v his_o practice_n 1_o cor._n 15.31_o i_o protest_v by_o your_o rejoice_v that_o i_o have_v in_o christ_n jesus_n our_o lord_n i_o die_v daily_o but_o how_o can_v a_o man_n die_v daily_a answ_n three_o way_n 1._o by_o a_o daily_a separate_n and_o lose_v his_o heart_n from_o all_o thing_n which_o death_n can_v which_o be_v our_o life_n now_o we_o have_v a_o kind_n of_o life_n in_o husband_n wife_n child_n estate_n etc._n etc._n and_o when_o death_n come_v it_o separate_v we_o from_o these_o therefore_o i_o say_v we_o die_v daily_o by_o a_o daily_a loosen_a and_o part_v the_o heart_n from_o they_o this_o duty_n be_v clear_o teach_v by_o the_o apostle_n 1_o cor._n 7.29_o 30_o 31._o where_o the_o apostle_n exhort_v that_o because_o our_o time_n to_o enjoy_v relation_n pleasure_n and_o estate_n be_v but_o short_a and_o we_o be_v present_o to_o spend_v a_o eternity_n without_o they_o therefore_o let_v they_o that_o have_v wife_n be_v as_o though_o they_o have_v none_o and_o they_o that_o rejoice_v be_v as_o though_o they_o rejoice_v not_o and_o they_o that_o buy_v be_v as_o though_o they_o sweet_a nor_o our_o passage_n into_o eternity_n more_o hard_a now_o hereby_o a_o man_n be_v very_o much_o prepare_v for_o sickness_n and_o death_n for_o one_o thing_n which_o make_v these_o so_o grievous_a be_v because_o the_o heart_n have_v take_v such_o hold_n of_o the_o creature_n that_o it_o exceed_o torment_v he_o to_o be_v break_v from_o it_o so_o that_o it_o be_v often_o a_o great_a of_o god_n be_v a_o remove_v he_o from_o a_o life_n on_o earth_n to_o a_o life_n in_o heaven_n and_o hereby_o he_o do_v as_o it_o be_v go_v beyond_o death_n and_o have_v his_o life_n and_o joy_n and_o comfort_n in_o the_o other_o world_n he_o walk_v by_o faith_n in_o the_o street_n of_o the_o city_n that_o have_v foundation_n and_o rest_v and_o refresh_v his_o soul_n in_o his_o house_n not_o make_v
