steadfastness_n in_o knowledge_n and_o grace_n this_o require_v truth_n care_n and_o wisdom_n therefore_o do_v the_o few_o attain_v to_o it_o to_o be_v build_v and_o settle_v in_o their_o most_o holy_a faith_n but_o the_o most_o professor_n be_v off_o and_o on_o cheap_v 20._o but_o not_o buy_v therefore_o in_o every_o temptation_n or_o affliction_n for_o the_o most_o part_n they_o be_v doubt_v that_o they_o have_v not_o repent_v aright_o and_o that_o they_o have_v no_o faith_n neither_o ever_o have_v whereas_o a_o foundation_n well_o lay_v stand_v in_o storm_n and_o tempest_n and_o be_v not_o throw_v down_o with_o wind_n nor_o weather_n 7.27_o and_o in_o speak_v of_o this_o so_o worthy_a a_o point_n i_o can_v but_o bewail_v a_o common_a and_o dangerous_a practice_n among_o people_n and_o those_o of_o the_o better_a sort_n that_o few_o by_o all_o their_o hear_n and_o reading_n be_v able_a to_o collect_v and_o lay_v together_o a_o plain_a pathway_n to_o salvation_n and_o former_a and_o shall_v man_n think_v we_o begin_v in_o faith_n and_o repentance_n in_o such_o a_o manner_n be_v such_o a_o confuse_a and_o raw_a entrance_n into_o it_o like_a to_o profit_v it_o this_o build_v proportionable_o to_o it_o that_o as_o some_o true_a measure_n of_o knowledge_n faith_n hope_n patitience_n the_o fear_n of_o god_n and_o other_o grace_n be_v attain_v and_o steadfastness_n therein_o so_o that_o they_o be_v uphold_v maintain_v and_o preserve_v daily_o as_o precious_a thing_n worth_a the_o cost_n and_o labour_n that_o be_v bestow_v upon_o they_o i_o mean_v that_o they_o who_o have_v believe_v and_o repent_v do_v so_o still_o and_o endeavour_n above_o all_o thing_n to_o hold_v out_o therein_o from_o day_n to_o day_n as_o the_o father_n mention_v in_o the_o epistle_n of_o the_o midst_n of_o the_o fire_n in_o cloud_n &_o darkness_n and_o be_v afraid_a to_o hear_v god_n speak_v unto_o they_o any_o further_a they_o desire_v moses_n even_o all_o the_o chief_a of_o unto_o their_o word_n the_o second_o thing_n be_v what_o the_o lord_n wish_v to_o they_o and_o that_o be_v such_o a_o heart_n as_o may_v suit_v with_o their_o word_n from_o which_o only_a and_o from_o no_o other_o heart_n this_o fear_n of_o god_n and_o obedience_n to_o his_o will_n which_o he_o like_v of_o can_v come_v in_o these_o word_n oh_o that_o there_o be_v such_o a_o heart_n in_o they_o to_o fear_v i_o and_o to_o keep_v all_o my_o commandment_n always_o the_o three_o be_v the_o fruit_n of_o such_o a_o heart_n and_o life_n and_o that_o be_v prosperity_n and_o welfare_n to_o they_o and_o to_o their_o child_n for_o ever_o heart_n now_o to_o begin_v with_o the_o first_o this_o mix_a speech_n of_o the_o lord_n which_o i_o so_o call_v because_o it_o commend_v somewhat_o in_o the_o people_n answer_n and_o dislike_v somewhat_o in_o they_o it_o allow_v their_o word_n but_o condemn_v their_o heart_n this_o mix_a speech_n of_o the_o lord_n i_o say_v teach_v we_o clear_o that_o man_n may_v possible_o utter_v good_a word_n and_o yet_o themselves_o be_v without_o grace_n their_o word_n may_v be_v good_a but_o their_o heart_n naught_o doct._n so_o that_o while_o they_o commend_v religion_n the_o preach_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o the_o profession_n thereof_o yet_o for_o all_o that_o they_o may_v be_v unprofitable_a in_o their_o life_n and_o not_o sound_a and_o upright_o in_o their_o heart_n without_o which_o their_o speech_n help_v they_o nothing_o and_o if_o it_o be_v say_v it_o be_v not_o sufficient_a for_o the_o proof_n of_o this_o doctrine_n that_o be_v here_o say_v in_o the_o text_n for_o possible_o it_o may_v be_v gather_v amiss_o let_v it_o be_v prove_v by_o two_o or_o three_o witness_n that_o there_o may_v be_v no_o exception_n bring_v against_o it_o as_o that_o for_o example_n in_o the_o 50._o psalm_n verse_n 16._o where_o you_o may_v find_v this_o unto_o the_o wicked_a say_v god_n what_o have_v thou_o to_o do_v 50.16_o to_o take_v my_o word_n in_o thy_o mouth_n and_o hate_v to_o be_v reform_v what_o need_v there_o any_o explanation_n of_o these_o word_n the_o lord_n vehement_o reprove_v they_o for_o speak_v of_o his_o word_n as_o though_o they_o bear_v great_a affection_n to_o it_o when_o in_o the_o mean_a while_o they_o will_v not_o be_v subject_a to_o it_o nor_o be_v direct_v by_o it_o to_o the_o which_o that_o may_v be_v add_v part_n of_o the_o text_n life_n in_o which_o he_o set_v down_o the_o fruit_n of_o such_o a_o heart_n and_o life_n and_o that_o be_v twofold_a themselves_o one_o redound_v to_o the_o party_n in_o who_o they_o be_v the_o other_o to_o their_o posterity_n and_o child_n and_o the_o blessing_n annex_v be_v one_o to_o both_o that_o be_v to_o say_v prosperity_n and_o welfare_n both_o temporal_a and_o eternal_a for_o so_o he_o say_v that_o it_o may_v go_v well_o with_o they_o and_o their_o child_n for_o ever_o so_o that_o the_o lord_n will_v have_v we_o know_v that_o all_o in_o who_o there_o be_v such_o a_o heart_n that_o they_o do_v fear_n god_n and_o endeavour_n to_o keep_v his_o commandment_n always_o shall_v prosper_v and_o be_v well_o like_v in_o that_o course_n for_o by_o say_v it_o shall_v go_v well_o with_o they_o his_o meaning_n be_v they_o shall_v see_v god_n blessing_n so_o to_o accompany_v they_o in_o that_o course_n of_o life_n as_o they_o shall_v confess_v it_o to_o be_v to_o their_o exceed_a good_a like_v and_o so_o as_o in_o no_o other_o they_o can_v find_v the_o like_a by_o many_o degree_n and_o yet_o this_o be_v not_o to_o be_v understand_v of_o outward_a prosperity_n peace_n and_o welfare_n in_o riches_n honour_n and_o such_o like_a simple_o but_o conditional_o so_o far_o as_o they_o be_v good_a for_o god_n child_n whereof_o the_o godly_a for_o the_o most_o part_n be_v void_a and_o this_o hungry_a scramble_a world_n will_v keep_v they_o far_o enough_o off_o from_o they_o and_o yet_o this_o be_v no_o cause_n of_o grief_n to_o they_o neither_o god_n provide_v better_a for_o they_o that_o they_o shall_v be_v less_o wed_v to_o this_o world_n but_o god_n principal_o mean_v hereby_o that_o he_o will_v make_v their_o life_n please_v and_o comfortable_a to_o they_o with_o inward_a peace_n and_o gladness_n of_o heart_n which_o far_o surmount_v the_o other_o and_o yet_o as_o he_o see_v it_o expedient_a they_o shall_v have_v sufficiency_n of_o the_o other_o also_o all_o man_n much_o desire_v peace_n even_o with_o man_n they_o find_v malice_n and_o contention_n with_o the_o unquietnes_n that_o go_v with_o it_o to_o be_v tedious_a
