self-good_a that_o very_a affection_n of_o lenity_n and_o mildness_n may_v be_v industrious_o nourish_v and_o the_o contrary_n depress_v so_o that_o the_o good_a affection_n may_v come_v at_o last_o to_o be_v seat_v in_o the_o temper_n and_o the_o good_a and_o proper_a object_n to_o be_v belove_v as_o by_o a_o creature_n well_o affect_v when_o no_o punishment_n or_o reward_n be_v think_v of_o thus_o we_o see_v that_o in_o a_o state_n or_o public_n a_o virtuous_a and_o good_a administration_n and_o a_o equal_a and_o just_a distribution_n of_o reward_n and_o punishment_n be_v of_o service_n a_o natural_a degree_n be_v no_o way_n inconsistent_a with_o the_o effect_n or_o right_a operation_n of_o natural_a affection_n which_o will_v prevail_v still_o where_o it_o ought_v and_o in_o every_o fit_a occasion_n take_v place_n of_o any_o of_o those_o other_o affection_n whilst_o thus_o moderate_a and_o make_v they_o to_o be_v no_o obstruction_n for_o thus_o in_o a_o creature_n who_o have_v a_o natural_a affection_n towards_o its_o young_a the_o affection_n towards_o private_a good_a or_o safety_n though_o abide_v still_o in_o the_o creature_n be_v yet_o no_o hindrance_n to_o his_o operation_n towards_o public_a good_a or_o good_a of_o his_o kind_a even_o where_o suffering_n and_o violence_n be_v to_o be_v undergon_v and_o life_n itself_o come_v in_o question_n and_o this_o be_v according_a to_o a_o right_a balance_n and_o proportion_n but_o if_o the_o passion_n of_o this_o kind_n towards_o private_a good_a or_o the_o regard_v to_o private_a good_a be_v excessive_a and_o beyond_o a_o certain_a degree_n then_o be_v this_o operation_n hinder_v and_o the_o effect_n of_o natural_a affection_n towards_o public_a good_a prevent_v and_o thus_o be_v the_o balance_n break_v and_o oeconomy_n destroy_v therefore_o if_o it_o be_v suppose_v conduce_v to_o the_o interest_n of_o any_o creature_n to_o have_v these_o self-passion_n thus_o violent_o strong_a and_o the_o balance_n to_o be_v after_o this_o manner_n than_o it_o must_v be_v according_a to_o his_o interest_n resolute_o to_o go_v against_o those_o natural_a affection_n but_o if_o as_o we_o think_v it_o will_v appear_v it_o can_v never_o be_v for_o the_o interest_n of_o a_o creature_n to_o have_v his_o self-passion_n thus_o strong_a or_o violent_a so_o as_o to_o make_v this_o ill_a balance_n than_o it_o must_v be_v always_o at_o his_o own_o disadvantage_n and_o not_o according_a to_o his_o interest_n to_o go_v contrary_a to_o natural_a affection_n through_o that_o which_o we_o call_v self-love_n if_o there_o be_v any_o of_o these_o self-passion_n which_o for_o the_o good_a and_o happiness_n of_o the_o creature_n may_v be_v set_v in_o opposition_n to_o natural_a affection_n and_o deserve_v a_o
