of_o good_a thing_n unto_o the_o person_n belove_v the_o philosopher_n tell_v we_o that_o to_o love_n for_o any_o one_o be_v 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d it_o be_v this_o efficacy_n of_o the_o love_n of_o christ_n which_o must_v bear_v all_o the_o present_a charge_n the_o meaning_n of_o my_o word_n therefore_o be_v that_o the_o love_n of_o christ_n be_v unto_o we_o the_o cause_n of_o life_n grace_n holiness_n and_o the_o reward_n of_o heaven_n and_o because_o it_o be_v in_o the_o nature_n of_o love_n to_o be_v effective_a according_a unto_o the_o ability_n of_o the_o person_n loving_n of_o the_o good_a which_o it_o will_v unto_o the_o object_n belove_v i_o express_v it_o as_o i_o think_v meet_v by_o love_v these_o thing_n to_o we_o and_o i_o be_o so_o far_o on_o this_o occasion_n and_o the_o severe_a reflection_n on_o i_o for_o a_o acquaintance_n with_o christ_n from_o alter_v my_o thought_n that_o i_o say_v still_o with_o confidence_n he_o who_o be_v otherwise_o mind_a be_v no_o christian._n and_o if_o this_o man_n know_v not_o how_o the_o love_n of_o christ_n be_v the_o cause_n of_o grace_n and_o glory_n how_o it_o be_v effective_a of_o they_o and_o that_o in_o a_o perfect_a consistency_n with_o all_o other_o cause_n and_o mean_n of_o they_o and_o the_o necessity_n of_o our_o obedience_n he_o may_v do_v well_o to_o abstain_v a_o little_a from_o write_v until_o he_o be_v better_a inform_v but_o say_v he_o this_o be_v a_o excellent_a love_n indeed_o which_o do_v all_o for_o we_o and_o leave_v we_o nothing_o to_o do_v but_o who_o tell_v he_o so_o who_o ever_o opposition_n between_o christ_n and_o his_o gospel_n be_v to_o be_v despise_v and_o if_o the_o lord_n christ_n have_v no_o other_o love_n but_o what_o this_o man_n will_v allow_v the_o state_n of_o the_o church_n in_o this_o world_n depend_v on_o a_o very_a slender_a thread_n but_o attempt_n of_o this_o nature_n will_v fall_v short_a enough_o of_o prevail_v with_o sober_a christian_n to_o they_o yea_o to_o suppose_v that_o this_o be_v all_o the_o grace_n of_o the_o gospel_n that_o while_o i_o be_v good_a christ_n love_v they_o and_o when_o they_o be_v bad_a he_o hate_v they_o both_o which_o be_v true_a and_o far_o that_o he_o do_v by_o his_o grace_n neither_o make_v they_o good_a nor_o preserve_v they_o that_o be_v so_o make_v be_v to_o renounce_v all_o that_o be_v proper_o so_o call_v he_o yet_o proceed_v first_o to_o evert_v this_o love_n which_o i_o assert_v and_o then_o to_o declare_v his_o own_o apprehension_n concern_v the_o love_n of_o christ._n the_o first_o in_o the_o ensue_a word_n pag._n 210._o but_o methinks_v this_o be_v a_o very_a odd_a way_n of_o argue_v from_o the_o divine_a nature_n for_o if_o the_o love_n of_o christ_n as_o god_n be_v so_o infinite_a eternal_a unchangeable_n fruitful_a i_o will_v willing_o understand_v how_o sin_n death_n and_o misery_n come_v into_o the_o world_n for_o if_o this_o love_n be_v so_o eternal_a and_o unchangeable_a because_o the_o divine_a nature_n be_v so_o than_o it_o be_v always_o so_o for_o god_n always_o be_v what_o he_o be_v and_o that_o which_o be_v eternal_a can_v never_o be_v other_o than_o it_o be_v now_o and_o why_o can_v not_o this_o eternal_a and_o unchangeable_a and_o fruitful_a love_n as_o well_o preserve_v we_o from_o fall_v into_o sin_n and_o misery_n and_o death_n as_o love_v life_n and_o holiness_n into_o we_o for_o it_o be_v a_o little_a odd_a first_o to_o love_v we_o into_o sin_n and_o death_n that_o then_o he_o may_v love_v we_o into_o life_n and_o holiness_n which_o indeed_o can_v not_o be_v if_o this_o love_n of_o god_n be_v always_o
so_o unchangeable_a and_o fruitful_a as_o this_o author_n persuade_v we_o it_o be_v now_o for_o if_o this_o love_n have_v always_o love_v life_n and_o and_o holiness_n into_o we_o i_o can_v conceive_v how_o it_o shall_v happen_v that_o we_o shall_v sin_v and_o die_v it_o be_v well_o if_o he_o know_v what_o it_o be_v that_o he_o aim_v at_o in_o these_o word_n i_o be_o sure_a what_o he_o say_v do_v not_o in_o the_o least_o impeach_v the_o truth_n which_o he_o design_n to_o oppose_v the_o name_n and_o nature_n of_o god_n be_v every_o where_o in_o the_o scripture_n propose_v unto_o we_o as_o the_o follow_v that_o god_n love_v any_o one_o natural_o or_o necessary_o his_o love_n be_v a_o free_a act_n of_o his_o will_n and_o therefore_o though_o it_o be_v like_o himself_o such_o as_o become_v his_o nature_n yet_o it_o be_v not_o necessary_o determine_v on_o any_o object_n nor_o limit_v as_o unto_o the_o nature_n degree_n and_o effect_n of_o it_o he_o love_v who_o he_o please_v and_o as_o unto_o what_o end_v he_o please_v jacob_n he_o love_v and_o esau_n he_o hate_v and_o those_o effect_n which_o from_o his_o love_n or_o out_o of_o it_o he_o will_v communicate_v unto_o they_o be_v as_o to_o preserve_v they_o from_o all_o ruine_v evil_n and_o so_o as_o they_o may_v be_v always_o meet_v object_n of_o his_o approve_v love_n unto_o his_o glory_n and_o whereas_o these_o thing_n have_v be_v debate_v and_o dispute_v on_o all_o hand_n with_o much_o learning_n and_o diligence_n our_o author_n be_v a_o very_a happy_a man_n if_o with_o a_o few_o such_o loose_a expression_n as_o these_o repeat_v he_o think_v to_o determine_v all_o the_o controversy_n about_o election_n and_o effectual_a grace_n with_o perseverance_n on_o the_o pelagian_a side_n the_o hypothesis_n here_o maintain_v that_o because_o god_n always_o and_o unchangeable_o approve_v of_o what_o be_v good_a in_o any_o or_o of_o the_o obedience_n of_o his_o creature_n and_o disapprove_v or_o hate_v sin_n condemn_v it_o in_o his_o law_n that_o therefore_o he_o may_v love_v the_o same_o person_n one_o day_n and_o hate_v he_o another_o notwithstanding_o his_o pretence_n that_o he_o be_v constant_a unto_o
