for_o heaven_n and_o to_o receive_v they_o again_o or_o to_o hear_v that_o they_o hold_v their_o title_n by_o they_o but_o perhaps_o they_o know_v not_o how_o they_o come_v at_o this_o privilege_n therefore_o the_o apostle_n tell_v they_o they_o have_v a_o advocate_n and_o that_o by_o he_o as_o advocate_n they_o enjoy_v all_o these_o advantage_n be_v manifest_a because_o his_o advocate_n office_n be_v appoint_v for_o our_o help_n when_o we_o sin_n that_o be_v commit_z sin_z that_o be_v great_a and_o heinous_a if_o any_o man_n sin_n we_o have_v a_o advocate_n by_o he_o the_o justice_n of_o god_n be_v vindicate_v the_o law_n answer_v the_o threaten_n take_v off_o the_o measure_n of_o afflicton_n that_o for_o sin_n we_o undergo_v determine_v our_o title_n to_o eternal_a life_n preserve_v and_o our_o comfort_n of_o they_o restore_v notwithstanding_o the_o wit_n and_o rage_n and_o envy_n of_o hell._n so_o then_o christ_n give_v himself_o for_o we_o as_o a_o priest_n die_v for_o we_o as_o a_o sacrifice_n but_o plead_v justice_n and_o righteousness_n in_o a_o way_n of_o justice_n and_o righteousness_n for_o such_o be_v his_o sacrifice_n for_o our_o salvation_n from_o the_o death_n that_o be_v due_a to_o our_o soul_n or_o high_a transgression_n as_o a_o advocate_n thus_o have_v i_o give_v you_o thus_o far_o a_o account_n of_o the_o nature_n end_n and_o necessity_n of_o the_o advocateship_n of_o jesus_n christ_n and_o shall_v now_o come_v to_o the_o use_n and_o application_n only_o i_o must_v first_o remove_v a_o objection_n or_o two_o obj._n but_o what_o need_v all_o these_o office_n of_o jesus_n christ_n or_o what_o need_v you_o trouble_v we_o with_o these_o nice_a distinction_n it_o be_v enough_o for_o we_o to_o believe_v in_o christ_n in_o the_o general_n without_o consider_v he_o under_o this_o and_o that_o office._n answ._n the_o wisdom_n of_o god_n be_v not_o to_o be_v charge_v with_o needless_a do_v when_o it_o give_v to_o jesus_n christ_n such_o variety_n of_o office_n and_o call_v he_o to_o so_o many_o sundry_a employment_n for_o we_o they_o be_v all_o thought_n necessary_a by_o heaven_n and_o therefore_o shall_v not_o be_v count_v superfluous_a by_o earth_n and_o to_o put_v a_o question_n upon_o thy_o objection_n what_o be_v a_o sacrifice_n without_o a_o priest_n and_o what_o be_v a_o priest_n without_o a_o sacrifice_n and_o the_o same_o i_o say_v of_o his_o advocate_n office_n what_o be_v a_o advocate_n without_o the_o exercise_n of_o his_o office_n and_o what_o need_v of_o a_o advocate_n office_n to_o be_v exercise_v if_o christ_n as_o sacrifice_n and_o priest_n by_o god_n be_v think_v sufficient_a each_o of_o these_o office_n be_v sufficient_a for_o the_o perfect_a of_o the_o work_n for_o which_o they_o be_v design_v but_o they_o be_v not_o all_o design_v for_o the_o self_n same_o particular_a thing_n christ_n as_o sacrifice_n offer_v not_o himself_o it_o be_v christ_n as_o priest_n do_v that_o christ_n as_o priest_n die_v not_o for_o our_o sin_n it_o be_v christ_n as_o sacrifice_n do_v so_o again_o christ_n as_o a_o sacrifice_n and_o a_o priest_n limit_n himself_o to_o those_o two_o imploy_n but_o as_o a_o advocate_n he_o lance_n out_o into_o a_o three_o and_o since_o these_o be_v not_o confound_v in_o heaven_n nor_o by_o the_o scripture_n they_o shall_v not_o be_v confound_v in_o our_o apprehension_n nor_o account_v useless_a it_o be_v not_o therefore_o enough_o for_o we_o that_o we_o exercise_v our_o thought_n upon_o christ_n in_o a_o undistinct_a and_o general_a way_n but_o we_o must_v learn_v to_o know_v he_o in_o all_o his_o office_n and_o to_o know_v the_o nature_n of_o his_o office_n also_o our_o condition_n require_v this_o it_o require_v it_o i_o say_v as_o we_o be_v guilty_a of_o sin_n as_o we_o have_v to_o do_v with_o god_n and_o with_o our_o enemy_n the_o devil_n as_o we_o be_v guilty_a of_o sin_n so_o we_o need_v a_o sacrifice_n and_o because_o we_o be_v also_o sinner_n we_o need_v one_o perfect_a to_o present_v our_o sacrifice_n for_o we_o to_o god_n we_o have_v need_v also_o of_o he_o as_o priest_n to_o present_v our_o person_n and_o service_n to_o god._n and_o since_o god_n be_v just_a and_o upon_o the_o judgment-seat_n and_o since_o also_o we_o be_v subject_a to_o sin_n grievous_o and_o again_o since_o we_o have_v a_o accuser_n who_o will_v by_o law_n plead_v at_o this_o bar_n of_o god_n our_o sin_n against_o we_o to_o the_o end_n we_o may_v be_v condemn_v we_o have_v need_n of_o and_o also_o have_v a_o advocate_n with_o the_o father_n jesus_n christ_n the_o righteous_a alas_o how_o many_o of_o god_n precious_a people_n for_o the_o want_n of_o a_o distinct_a knowledge_n of_o christ_n in_o all_o his_o office_n be_v at_o this_o day_n sad_o baffle_v with_o the_o sophistication_n of_o the_o devil_n to_o instance_n no_o more_o than_o this_o one_o thing_n when_o they_o have_v commit_v some_o heinous_a sin_n after_o light_n receive_v how_o be_v they_o i_o say_v toss_v and_o tumble_v and_o distress_a with_o many_o perplexity_n they_o can_v come_v to_o any_o anchor_n in_o this_o their_o trouble_a sea._n they_o go_v from_o promise_n to_o promise_n from_o providence_n to_o providence_n from_o this_o to_o that_o office_n of_o jesus_n christ_n but_o forget_v that_o he_o be_v or_o else_o understand_v not_o what_o it_o be_v for_o this_o lord_n jesus_n to_o be_v a_o advocate_n for_o they_o hence_o they_o so_o often_o sink_v under_o the_o fear_n that_o their_o sin_n be_v unpardonable_a and_o that_o therefore_o their_o condition_n be_v desperate_a whereas_o if_o they_o can_v but_o consider_v that_o christ_n be_v their_o advocate_n and_o that_o he_o be_v therefore_o make_v a_o advocate_n to_o save_v they_o from_o those_o high_a transgression_n that_o be_v commit_v by_o they_o and_o that_o he_o wait_v upon_o this_o office_n continual_o before_o the_o judgment-seat_n of_o god_n they_o will_v conceive_v relief_n and_o be_v make_v hold_v up_o their_o head_n and_o will_v more_o strong_o twist_v themselves_o from_o under_o that_o gild_n and_o burden_n those_o rope_n and_o cord_n wherewith_o by_o their_o folly_n they_o have_v so_o strong_o bind_v themselves_o than_o common_o they_o have_v do_v or_o do_v obj._n 2._o but_o notwithstanding_o what_o you_o have_v say_v this_o sin_n be_v a_o deadly_a stick_n in_o they_o also_o must_v be_v of_o another_o stamp_n to_o wit_n a_o make_v head_n against_o the_o person_n merit_n and_o grace_n of_o jesus_n christ_n these_o be_v the_o sin_n of_o devil_n in_o the_o world_n and_o for_o these_o there_o be_v no_o remission_n these_o they_o also_o that_o be_v of_o the_o wicked_a one_o commit_v and_o therefore_o sin_n after_o the_o similitude_n of_o satan_n and_o and_o this_o lead_v i_o first_o to_o inquire_v into_o what_o by_o these_o word_n the_o apostle_n must_v of_o necessity_n presuppose_v for_o make_v use_n here_o of_o the_o similitude_n or_o office_n of_o a_o advocate_n thereby_o to_o show_v the_o preservation_n of_o the_o sin_v christian_n he_o must_v 1._o suppose_v that_o god_n as_o judge_n be_v now_o upon_o the_o throne_n of_o his_o judgement_n for_o a_o advocate_n be_v to_o plead_v at_o a_o bar_n before_o a_o court_n of_o judicature_n thus_o it_o be_v among_o man_n and_o for_o as_o much_o as_o our_o lord_n jesus_n be_v say_v to_o be_v a_o advocate_n with_o the_o father_n it_o be_v clear_a that_o there_o be_v a_o throne_n of_o judgement_n also_o this_o the_o prophet_n micaiah_n affirm_v say_v i_o see_v the_o lord_n sit_v upon_o a_o throne_n and_o all_o the_o host_n of_o heaven_n stand_v by_o he_o on_o the_o right_a hand_n and_o on_o the_o left_a 1_o kin._n 22.19_o 20._o sit_v upon_o a_o throne_n for_o judgement_n for_o from_o condemnation_n that_o by_o the_o law_n of_o sin_n and_o death_n be_v due_a thereto_o this_o be_v then_o the_o occasion_n that_o christ_n take_v to_o plead_v as_o advocate_n for_o the_o salvation_n and_o so_o consequent_o as_o consider_v in_o a_o bad_a condition_n it_o be_v true_a we_o must_v distinguish_v between_o the_o person_n and_o the_o sin_n and_o christ_n plead_v for_o the_o person_n not_o the_o sin._n but_o yet_o he_o can_v be_v concern_v with_o the_o person_n but_o he_o must_v be_v with_o the_o sin_n for_o though_o the_o person_n and_o the_o sin_n may_v be_v distinguish_v yet_o they_o can_v be_v separate_v he_o must_v plead_v then_o not_o for_o a_o person_n only_o but_o for_o a_o guilty_a person_n for_o a_o person_n under_o the_o worst_a of_o circumstance_n if_o any_o man_n sin_n we_o have_v a_o advocate_n for_o he_o as_o so_o consider_v when_o a_o man_n cause_n be_v good_a it_o will_v sufficient_o plead_v for_o itself_o yea_o and_o for_o its_o master_n too_o special_o when_o it_o be_v make_v appear_v so_o to_o be_v before_o a_o just_a and_o righteous_a judge_n here_o therefore_o need_v no_o advocate_n the_o juâ—ge_n himself_o will_v pronounce_v he_o righteous_a this_o be_v evident_o see_v in_o job_n thou_o move_v i_o against_o he_o this_o say_a god_n to_o satan_n to_o destroy_v he_o without_o a_o cause_n job_n 2.3_o thus_o far_o job_n cause_n be_v good_a
