its_o precept_n it_o make_v discovery_n of_o the_o first_o rise_n motion_n stir_n and_o concupiscence_n of_o these_o thing_n in_o the_o soul_n and_o forbid_v these_o and_o hence_o by_o reason_n that_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n or_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o gospel_n for_o that_o i_o understand_v by_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n all_o along_o have_v more_o full_a high_a and_o more_o spiritual_a instruction_n than_o any_o the_o law_n have_v make_v further_a discovery_n of_o sin_n than_o the_o law_n bare_o consider_v can_v do_v it_o come_v to_o pass_v that_o it_o be_v the_o most_o effectual_a mean_n of_o kill_v and_o subdue_a sin_n 3_o because_o there_o be_v a_o power_n in_o grace_n for_o the_o subdue_a and_o kill_v of_o sin_n the_o apostle_n tell_v we_o 2_o cor._n 3._o that_o the_o law_n it_o be_v a_o kill_a letter_n that_o be_v it_o be_v only_o a_o bare_a letter_n without_o any_o power_n bid_v we_o to_o do_v this_o and_o avoid_v that_o but_o contribute_v no_o assistance_n to_o we_o yet_o tell_v we_o if_o we_o do_v not_o obey_v it_o we_o shall_v be_v damn_v and_o so_o it_o be_v a_o kill_a letter_n that_o be_v to_o we_o it_o kill_v we_o instead_o of_o kill_v our_o sin_n but_o now_o the_o gospel_n give_v life_n that_o do_v not_o only_o command_v but_o give_v power_n to_o do_v and_o so_o be_v a_o word_n of_o life_n so_o heb._n 12._o he_o call_v the_o law_n a_o voice_n of_o word_n for_o the_o same_o reason_n because_o it_o do_v command_v and_o forbid_v thing_n under_o the_o penalty_n of_o death_n and_o damnation_n and_o it_o see_v the_o poor_a creature_n to_o be_v weak_a and_o altogether_o unable_a to_o do_v either_o the_o one_o or_o the_o other_o and_o yet_o give_v he_o no_o power_n at_o all_o and_o so_o be_v only_o a_o terrible_a voice_n of_o word_n to_o he_o the_o law_n as_o one_o say_v it_o do_v teach_v just_a as_o the_o commandment_n write_v upon_o the_o wall_n do_v a_o poor_a man_n come_v in_o and_o read_v they_o over_o and_o yet_o his_o heart_n be_v never_o the_o warm_a never_o the_o more_o fit_a to_o obey_v any_o of_o they_o because_o he_o read_v they_o there_o but_o now_o the_o gospel_n on_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n that_o bring_v power_n along_o with_o it_o a_o poor_a soul_n which_o before_o live_v in_o sin_n and_o think_v it_o impossible_a that_o ever_o he_o shall_v leave_v they_o or_o have_v they_o subdue_v now_o find_v a_o power_n within_o he_o kill_v and_o subdue_a those_o sin_n of_o he_o hence_o it_o be_v call_v the_o power_n of_o god_n unto_o salvation_n rom._n 1.16_o 4_o because_o a_o soul_n never_o come_v to_o see_v sin_n in_o its_o proper_a colour_n until_o the_o grace_n
of_o god_n be_v discover_v to_o it_o take_v a_o poor_a soul_n that_o be_v convince_v of_o his_o sin_n by_o the_o law_n yet_o do_v he_o not_o see_v the_o foul_a filthy_a and_o odious_a nature_n of_o his_o sin_n and_o how_o exceed_o every_o sin_n he_o commit_v be_v aggravate_v and_o how_o sad_a by_o reason_n of_o sin_n his_o condition_n be_v as_o do_v another_o poor_a soul_n who_o see_v his_o sin_n and_o himself_o a_o sinner_n in_o the_o gospel_n and_o by_o the_o gospel_n a_o poor_a soul_n that_o see_v his_o sin_n through_o the_o vail_n of_o the_o law_n never_o come_v to_o see_v the_o odiousness_n of_o sin_n nor_o to_o hate_v sin_n for_o itself_o nor_o the_o aggravation_n of_o his_o sin_n as_o do_v that_o soul_n which_o behold_v the_o same_o in_o the_o blood_n of_o jesus_n in_o the_o glass_n of_o the_o gospel_n a_o poor_a soul_n that_o see_v his_o sin_n by_o the_o law_n do_v not_o see_v in_o what_o a_o miserable_a and_o undo_v condition_n he_o be_v in_o by_o reason_n of_o his_o sin_n he_o sin_v to_o day_n and_o he_o see_v and_o know_v it_o and_o know_v too_o that_o he_o have_v deserve_v thereby_o eternal_a death_n and_o perhaps_o his_o conscience_n gripe_v he_o for_o it_o but_o to_o morrow_n he_o run_v to_o his_o pray_n and_o vow_v and_o covenant_v and_o here_o he_o lick_v himself_o whole_a again_o think_v to_o make_v god_n amends_o by_o future_a obedience_n for_o former_a disobedience_n and_o when_o he_o have_v be_v drink_v wanton_a unclean_a cheat_v his_o neighbour_n etc._n etc._n present_o he_o run_v to_o pray_v and_o confess_v and_o resolve_v to_o change_v his_o course_n of_o life_n and_o do_v thus_o no_o more_o and_o then_o he_o think_v all_o be_v well_o and_o the_o score_n be_v cross_v between_o god_n and_o he_o thus_o the_o poor_a sinner_n conject_v no_o danger_n but_o bless_v himself_o that_o he_o have_v do_v god_n no_o injury_n and_o therefore_o god_n mean_v he_o no_o ill_n and_o so_o all_o be_v well_o and_o he_o be_v happy_a when_o alas_o poor_a soul_n he_o be_v mere_o gull_v he_o feed_v on_o ash_n as_o the_o prophet_n speak_v a_o deceive_a heart_n have_v turn_v he_o aside_o so_o that_o he_o can_v say_v be_v there_o not_o a_o lie_n in_o my_o right_a hand_n whereas_o when_o a_o poor_a soul_n come_v to_o have_v the_o grace_n of_o god_n discover_v to_o it_o or_o the_o gospel_n open_v unto_o it_o and_o it_o embrace_v the_o same_o it_o than_o come_v to_o see_v the_o odious_a and_o filthy_a nature_n of_o its_o sin_n how_o every_o sin_n pierce_v christ_n wound_v he_o make_v he_o who_o be_v bless_v for_o evermore_o to_o lie_v under_o a_o curse_n how_o exceed_o every_o sin_n it_o commit_v aggravate_v be_v commit_v against_o grace_n and_o mercy_n etc._n etc._n o_o than_o it_o see_v that_o there_o be_v no_o way_n in_o the_o the_o world_n will_v or_o can_v wash_v it_o out_o but_o the_o blood_n of_o christ_n 5_o because_o there_o be_v nothing_o of_o a_o more_o contrary_a nature_n to_o sin_n than_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n be_v the_o best_a way_n to_o destroy_v a_o contrary_a be_v to_o oppose_v its_o contrary_a to_o it_o if_o you_o will_v put_v out_o fire_n throw_v water_n upon_o it_o if_o you_o will_v have_v your_o chamber_n free_a from_o darkness_n open_v the_o window_n and_o let_v in_o the_o light_n contrary_n fight_v and_o endeavour_v to_o destroy_v each_o other_o and_o the_o more_o contrary_a thing_n be_v the_o more_o do_v they_o endeavour_v to_o do_v it_o now_o there_o be_v no_o great_a contrary_n than_o sin_n and_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n be_v sin_n be_v the_o great_a darkness_n the_o grace_n of_o god_n be_v the_o great_a light_n and_o therefore_o these_o two_o be_v in_o continual_a fight_n and_o labour_n to_o destroy_v each_o other_o in_o which_o combat_n the_o grace_n of_o god_n ever_o prevail_v as_o the_o light_n of_o the_o sun_n be_v the_o great_a light_n do_v ever_o expel_v darkness_n when_o ever_o it_o come_v let_v it_o be_v ever_o so_o much_o all_o light_n be_v contrary_a in_o its_o nature_n to_o darkness_n yet_o if_o the_o light_n be_v but_o small_a and_o the_o darkness_n great_a we_o see_v in_o will_v not_o expel_v it_o so_o may_v i_o say_v the_o law_n be_v in_o its_o own_o nature_n holy_a just_a good_a spiritual_a contrary_a to_o sin_n yet_o because_o it_o be_v but_o a_o little_a light_n in_o comparison_n of_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n as_o it_o be_v the_o shine_a of_o a_o candle_n to_o the_o sun_n and_o sin_n be_v the_o great_a darkness_n it_o do_v not_o therefore_o overcome_v and_o expel_v the_o same_o and_o hence_o the_o discovery_n of_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n be_v the_o most_o effectual_a mean_n to_o kill_v sin_n because_o it_o be_v of_o such_o a_o contrary_a nature_n to_o sin_n that_o either_o sin_n must_v destroy_v it_o or_o it_o will_v destroy_v sin_n but_o sin_n never_o be_v able_a to_o do_v the_o one_o it_o will_v and_o do_v in_o all_o those_o soul_n which_o hear_v and_o receive_v the_o same_o by_o degree_n do_v the_o other_o use_v 1_o then_o see_v how_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n be_v wrong_v in_o the_o world_n when_o man_n cry_v out_o this_o be_v your_o preach_n of_o free_a grace_n what_o come_v of_o it_o but_o to_o make_v a_o company_n of_o hypocrite_n to_o make_v person_n loose_a and_o profane_a when_o indeed_o this_o be_v altogether_o false_a and_o a_o abominable_a slander_n of_o the_o free_a grace_n of_o god_n the_o grace_n of_o god_n be_v the_o great_a motive_n and_o mean_n to_o holiness_n that_o be_v in_o the_o world_n and_o if_o that_o will_v not_o mortify_v sin_n to_o be_v sure_a nothing_o else_o will_v do_v it_o man_n may_v talk_v of_o the_o law_n and_o the_o terror_n thereof_o and_o the_o thundering_n of_o hell_n and_o damnation_n as_o the_o only_a mean_n to_o kill_v sin_n but_o sure_o enough_o if_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n will_v not_o do_v it_o these_o never_o will_v it_o be_v one_o thing_n to_o have_v sin_n kill_v another_o thing_n to_o have_v it_o bridle_v the_o law_n may_v put_v a_o bridle_n upon_o a_o man_n sin_n and_o lust_n but_o it_o never_o kill_v they_o but_o grace_n that_o kill_v sin_n therefore_o it_o be_v a_o injury_n offer_v to_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n to_o say_v of_o it_o that_o it_o make_v man_n sinner_n it_o make_v they_o loose_a etc._n etc._n for_o it_o do_v the_o contrary_a shall_v we_o sin_v because_o grace_n abound_v no_o god_n forbid_v thus_o grace_n reason_v use_v 2._o then_o will_v thou_o overcome_v thy_o sin_n study_v the_o grace_n of_o god_n more_o the_o more_o god_n let_v the_o light_n of_o his_o grace_n into_o thy_o soul_n the_o more_o shall_v thou_o find_v thy_o sin_n to_o die_v many_o poor_a soul_n there_o be_v which_o strive_v against_o their_o sin_n and_o labour_n to_o keep_v up_o their_o heart_n in_o way_n of_o obedience_n etc._n etc._n and_o yet_o little_a fruit_n come_v of_o all_o their_o toil_n and_o sweat_n and_o tire_v themselves_o why_o because_o they_o weary_a themselves_o out_o in_o a_o way_n of_o work_n to_o get_v that_o which_o be_v to_o be_v obtain_v only_o by_o grace_n they_o seek_v after_o righteousness_n and_o justification_n and_o holiness_n and_o sanctification_n not_o by_o faith_n not_o from_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n but_o as_o israel_n do_v by_o the_o work_n of_o the_o law_n and_o so_o do_v it_o fare_v with_o they_o as_o with_o israel_n they_o do_v not_o obtain_v that_o which_o they_o seek_v for_o poor_a soul_n you_o cry_v out_o o_o my_o sin_n my_o sin_n i_o can_v subdue_v they_o such_o and_o such_o a_o lust_n be_v too_o hard_a for_o i_o and_o what_o be_v the_o cause_n why_o this_o you_o think_v to_o get_v the_o mastery_n of_o your_o sin_n by_o your_o work_n and_o this_o will_v never_o do_v it_o let_v i_o tell_v you_o a_o little_a the_o road_n you_o go_v in_o to_o mortify_v and_o subdue_v sin_n you_o find_v sin_n struggle_v within_o you_o and_o overcome_v you_o well_o now_o say_v the_o soul_n by_o god_n help_n i_o will_v overcome_v this_o sin_n hereupon_o thou_o take_v up_o a_o resolution_n to_o change_v thy_o course_n of_o life_n and_o to_o avoid_v all_o occasion_n whatsoever_o that_o shall_v draw_v thou_o to_o sin_n this_o resolution_n it_o may_v be_v do_v not_o hold_v thy_o sin_n master_v thou_o and_o thy_o
resolution_n too_o but_o say_v thou_o well_o yet_o sin_n i_o will_v overcome_v thou_o than_o thou_o fall_v to_o pray_v thyself_o against_o it_o and_o get_v other_o to_o pray_v for_o thou_o and_o run_v to_o this_o minister_n and_o the_o other_o and_o treade_v thy_o case_n before_o he_o and_o ask_v his_o advice_n what_o thou_o shall_v do_v in_o it_o notwithstanding_o all_o this_o thou_o own_o endeavour_n or_o any_o help_n they_o can_v afford_v thou_o thy_o sin_n be_v still_o too_o strong_a for_o thou_o well_o then_o when_o there_o be_v no_o other_o way_n thou_o know_v leave_v thou_o fall_v to_o keep_v of_o fast_n make_v vow_n and_o covenant_n and_o do_v as_o good_a as_o swear_v to_o the_o lord_n of_o heaven_n and_o earth_n that_o henceforth_o thou_o will_v be_v as_o godly_a as_o pass_v and_o never_o sin_n against_o he_o more_o nor_o do_v as_o thou_o have_v do_v and_o then_o it_o may_v be_v before_o two_o day_n or_o a_o week_n come_v at_o a_o end_n thou_o break_v all_o and_o be_v now_o in_o a_o worse_a case_n than_o ever_o and_o even_o at_o thy_o wit_n end_n o_o poor_a soul_n this_o be_v the_o way_n you_o go_v in_o to_o get_v holiness_n to_o have_v your_o sin_n mortify_v and_o this_o be_v the_o fruit_n of_o it_o after_o all_o your_o strive_v and_o struggle_v tug_v and_o pull_v to_o fetch_v your_o sin_n out_o by_o head_n and_o ear_n they_o abide_v there_o still_o and_o the_o reason_n be_v because_o you_o go_v about_o it_o in_o a_o way_n of_o work_v whereas_o you_o shall_v look_v for_o all_o from_o grace_n and_o so_o study_v the_o grace_n of_o god_n more_o sin_n it_o be_v like_o samson_n bind_v they_o with_o ever_o so_o many_o iron_n fetter_n of_o the_o law_n it_o will_v snap_v they_o all_o to_o piece_n though_o in_o some_o these_o fetter_n chain_v sin_n which_o be_v because_o sin_n be_v willing_a to_o be_v chain_v that_o so_o hereby_o they_o may_v be_v lull_v asleep_o in_o a_o good_a opinion_n of_o themselves_o and_o thereby_o deceive_v their_o own_o soul_n yet_o other_o who_o god_n out_o of_o love_n will_v not_o suffer_v to_o be_v gull_v in_o this_o manner_n find_v it_o otherwise_o they_o see_v and_o know_v by_o woeful_a experience_n that_o all_o these_o fetter_n be_v but_o like_o so_o many_o twine_a thread_n bound_v a_o lion_n with_o a_o twine_n thread_n and_o what_o do_v you_o you_o be_v as_o good_a and_o better_o sit_v still_o and_o do_v nothing_o for_o he_o will_v but_o tear_v and_o rend_v you_o the_o more_o so_o sin_n by_o all_o this_o do_v but_o rage_n the_o more_o the_o apostle_n excellent_o set_v this_o forth_o rom._n 7.8_o 9_o 10_o 11._o but_o sin_n take_v occasion_n by_o the_o commandment_n wrought_v in_o i_o all_o manner_n of_o concupiscence_n for_o without_o the_o law_n sin_n be_v dead_a for_o i_o be_v alive_a without_o the_o law_n once_o but_o when_o the_o commandment_n come_v sin_n revive_v and_o i_o die_v and_o the_o commandment_n which_o be_v ordain_v to_o life_n i_o find_v to_o be_v unto_o death_n for_o sin_n take_v law_n sin_n be_v dead_a sin_n lay_v still_o and_o do_v not_o show_v that_o liveliness_n which_o be_v in_o it_o till_o the_o commandment_n come_v to_o restrain_v it_o and_o then_o it_o begin_v to_o bestir_v itself_o the_o commandment_n will_v have_v lay_v bond_n upon_o it_o than_o sin_n which_o lie_v asleep_a and_o as_o it_o be_v dead_a before_o get_v up_o say_v the_o commandment_n you_o shall_v be_v curb_v and_o bind_v nay_o but_o say_v sin_n i_o will_v not_o be_v bind_v say_v the_o commandment_n you_o shall_v not_o do_v thus_o nay_o but_o say_v sin_n i_o will_v do_v it_o and_o the_o more_o because_o you_o say_v i_o shall_v not_o therefore_o poor_a soul_n have_v thou_o be_v toil_a and_o sweat_v and_o tire_v thyself_o with_o thy_o vow_n and_o covenant_n one_o year_n after_o another_o to_o all_o the_o thundering_n or_o terror_n of_o the_o law_n either_o will_v or_o can_v do_v the_o advocateship_n of_o jesus_n christ_n a_o great_a ground_n of_o the_o saint_n comfort_n and_o support_v under_o sin_n and_o infirmity_n in_o one_o sermon_n on_o 2_o joh._n 2.2_o if_o any_o man_n sin_n we_o have_v a_o advocate_n with_o the_o father_n jesus_n christ_n the_o righteous_a the_o last_o opportunity_n i_o read_v these_o word_n unto_o you_o but_o be_v then_o beside_o my_o own_o intention_n when_o i_o pitch_v on_o they_o take_v up_o in_o the_o way_n that_o nothing_o be_v speak_v to_o make_v thus_o object_n you_o tell_v we_o that_o these_o precious_a gospel-truth_n which_o now_o have_v be_v declare_v to_o we_o be_v reveal_v for_o this_o very_a end_n that_o we_o shall_v not_o sin_v if_o so_o what_o will_v become_v of_o we_o who_o have_v hear_v these_o thing_n over_o and_o over_o and_o yet_o still_o do_v what_o we_o can_v we_o fall_v into_o sin_n and_o be_v ever_o and_o anon_o overcome_v thereby_o sure_o we_o be_v of_o all_o most_o miserable_a we_o be_v undo_v for_o ever_o answ_n if_o any_o man_n sin_n we_o have_v a_o advocate_n with_o the_o father_n as_o if_o he_o shall_v it_o be_v not_o a_o supposition_n or_o a_o thing_n suppose_v to_o be_v but_o a_o thing_n which_o real_o be_v as_o if_o the_o apostle_n shall_v say_v well_o grant_v it_o that_o you_o sin_n for_o in_o the_o law_n to_o cause_v fear_n if_o we_o look_v upon_o it_o in_o the_o
hand_n of_o christ_n there_o be_v no_o terror_n threaten_n no_o curse_n no_o noise_n of_o death_n hell_n and_o damnation_n though_o i_o break_v the_o same_o all_o these_o thing_n be_v go_v and_o on_o obedience_n which_o be_v the_o fruit_n and_o effect_n of_o the_o work_n of_o god_n holy_a spirit_n in_o we_o be_v gospel-walking_a for_o not_o the_o law_n but_o the_o gospel_n or_o new_a covenant_n give_v the_o spirit_n which_o help_v we_o to_o obey_v but_o now_o all_o obedience_n to_o the_o law_n as_o it_o be_v in_o the_o hand_n of_o christ_n be_v such_o for_o to_o such_o as_o take_v the_o law_n of_o christ_n christ_n first_o give_v his_o spirit_n than_o his_o law_n as_o ezek._n 36.27_o i_o will_v put_v my_o spirit_n within_o you_o what_o then_o and_o i_o will_v cause_v you_o to_o walk_v in_o my_o way_n first_o the_o spirit_n to_o enable_v to_o obedience_n than_o the_o law_n and_o they_o do_v obey_v it_o therefore_o all_o such_o obedience_n be_v gospel-walking_a other_o question_n there_o be_v behind_o which_o i_o can_v reach_v at_o present_a i_o shall_v only_o mind_v you_o of_o this_o that_o what_o have_v be_v before_o speak_v serve_v to_o correct_v two_o great_a mistake_n 1_o a_o mistake_n of_o some_o man_n of_o the_o one_o hand_n who_o be_v so_o much_o for_o the_o gospel_n and_o do_v so_o cry_v it_o up_o that_o they_o throw_v the_o moral_a law_n quite_o out_o of_o door_n as_o though_o there_o be_v no_o room_n for_o that_o in_o the_o gospel_n temple_n they_o think_v that_o grace_n and_o good_a work_n be_v so_o inconsistent_a one_o with_o the_o other_o that_o they_o can_v never_o stand_v together_o and_o therefore_o that_o grace_n may_v be_v all_o the_o law_n and_o good_a work_n shall_v be_v nothing_o at_o all_o who_o mistake_n be_v correct_v from_o what_o have_v be_v say_v and_o prove_v that_o the_o moral_a law_n remain_v a_o rule_n to_o saint_n in_o gospel-time_n 2_o a_o mistake_n of_o some_o other_o on_o the_o other_o hand_n who_o out_o of_o zeal_n for_o the_o moral_a law_n do_v hand_n over_o head_n urge_v and_o press_v the_o same_o as_o the_o rule_n of_o saint_n never_o consider_v how_o or_o in_o what_o sense_n the_o same_o remain_v a_o rule_n and_o by_o so_o do_v they_o bring_v the_o glorious_a son_n of_o zion_n the_o freeborn_a saint_n of_o the_o gospel_n under_o the_o power_n and_o command_n of_o a_o covenant_n of_o work_n ere_o they_o be_v aware_a who_o mistake_n be_v correct_v by_o distinguish_v of_o command_n as_o they_o be_v moses_n and_o christ_n in_o the_o first_o sense_n the_o law_n be_v not_o a_o saint_n rule_n and_o it_o be_v dangerous_a so_o to_o make_v it_o in_o the_o latter_a it_o be_v and_o it_o be_v sweet_a and_o comfortable_a so_o to_o receive_v it_o therefore_o you_o that_o be_v saint_n and_o believer_n hence_o learn_v two_o thing_n i_o not_o to_o reject_v the_o moral_a law_n as_o a_o rule_n to_o order_v your_o life_n and_o conversation_n by_o but_o with_o love_n delight_n and_o cheerfulness_n approve_v of_o embrace_v and_o obey_v the_o same_o 2_o not_o to_o take_v the_o moral_a law_n for_o your_o rule_n as_o it_o come_v out_o of_o moses_n his_o hand_n for_o than_o you_o bring_v yourselves_o under_o the_o power_n of_o a_o covenant_n of_o work_n and_o your_o soul_n will_v be_v continual_o fill_v with_o terror_n fear_n and_o tremble_a cover_v over_o with_o darkness_n lie_v under_o apprehension_n of_o wrath_n and_o altogether_o weak_a and_o unable_a to_o do_v what_o be_v command_v but_o take_v it_o out_o of_o the_o hand_n of_o christ_n and_o then_o with_o paul_n you_o will_v say_v the_o law_n if_o holy_a just_a and_o good_a i_o consent_v to_o the_o law_n that_o it_o be_v good_a i_o delight_v in_o the_o law_n of_o god_n after_o the_o inner_a man_n yea_o with_o my_o mind_n i_o myself_o do_v serve_v the_o law_n of_o god_n which_o gospel-walking_a the_o lord_n bring_v you_o and_o i_o daily_o more_o and_o more_o unto_o amen_n when_o a_o man_n walk_n may_v be_v say_v to_o be_v a_o gospel_n walk_v sermon_n vi._n rom._n 8.1_o who_o walk_v not_o after_o the_o flesh_n but_o after_o the_o spirit_n by_o this_o time_n you_o know_v the_o meaning_n of_o these_o phrase_n of_o christ._n of_o this_o have_v speak_v at_o large_a the_o last_o day_n i_o shall_v whole_o wave_v it_o now_o 2_o when_o the_o principle_n of_o a_o man_n obedience_n or_o walk_n be_v a_o gospel_n principle_n quest_n but_o what_o be_v the_o gospel_n principle_n answ_n this_o gospel_n hold_v forth_o two_o great_a thing_n viz._n a_o crucify_a christ_n to_o be_v believe_v on_o and_o the_o pour_v out_o of_o the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n into_o the_o heart_n of_o believer_n the_o first_o respect_v our_o justification_n the_o latter_a our_o sanctification_n or_o our_o obedience_n and_o walk_v now_o as_o christ_n crucify_v be_v the_o great_a principle_n in_o the_o business_n of_o our_o justification_n whence_o alone_o that_o flow_v from_o the_o know_v and_o believe_v on_o a_o crucify_a christ_n so_o the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o saint_n be_v the_o great_a principle_n in_o the_o matter_n of_o our_o obedience_n whence_o that_o flow_v hence_o rom._n 8._o the_o son_n of_o god_n be_v say_v to_o be_v lead_v by_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n i.e._n the_o spirit_n do_v not_o only_o teach_v a_o believer_n what_o be_v his_o duty_n but_o do_v as_o it_o be_v take_v he_o by_o the_o hand_n and_o lead_v he_o to_o it_o help_n and_o guide_v he_o in_o it_o there_o be_v more_o hold_v forth_o in_o the_o word_n lead_v than_o in_o teach_v i_o teach_v another_o when_o i_o write_v he_o a_o copy_n and_o lay_v it_o before_o he_o and_o tell_v he_o how_o he_o shall_v hold_v his_o pen_n and_o order_n and_o guide_v his_o hand_n but_o now_o when_o i_o do_v not_o only_o do_v this_o but_o take_v his_o hand_n in_o i_o and_o write_v therewith_o i_o may_v be_v better_o say_v to_o guide_v or_o lead_v he_o so_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n teach_v a_o believer_n when_o it_o make_v discovery_n of_o any_o truth_n to_o he_o he_o be_v ignorant_a of_o before_o and_o show_v he_o what_o duty_n that_o truth_n call_v for_o from_o he_o but_o when_o it_o do_v not_o only_o do_v this_o but_o also_o inable_v the_o soul_n to_o receive_v this_o truth_n and_o to_o walk_v up_o to_o what_o this_o truth_n call_v for_o conform_v the_o soul_n to_o the_o truth_n or_o will_n of_o god_n then_o do_v it_o exercise_v its_o lead_a power_n in_o the_o soul_n and_o therefore_o ezek._n 36.27_o god_n say_v i_o will_v put_v my_o spirit_n within_o you_o and_o cause_v you_o to_o walk_v in_o my_o way_n etc._n etc._n in_o the_o gospel_n or_o new_a covenant_n the_o spirit_n of_o god_n put_v into_o a_o believer_n be_v the_o cause_v constrain_a principle_n to_o obedience_n and_o holy_a walk_n as_o in_o the_o old_a covenant_n though_o the_o fruit_n seem_v never_o so_o glorious_a yet_o the_o principle_n or_o root_n of_o all_o obedience_n be_v flesh_n so_o in_o the_o new_a covenant_n though_o the_o outward_a fruit_n seem_v never_o so_o mean_a and_o weak_a yet_o the_o principle_n or_o root_n be_v the_o spirit_n all_o gospel_n grace_n and_o work_n be_v fruit_n of_o the_o spirit_n as_o gal._n
