either_o as_o well_o as_o also_o in_o respect_n of_o the_o consequent_a issue_n thereof_o to_o such_o as_o be_v under_o they_o or_o those_o that_o affirm_v that_o the_o sinai_n covenant_n be_v purposely_o so_o dispense_v as_o to_o tender_a life_n and_o happiness_n upon_o two_o opposite_a and_o contrary_a condition_n §_o 15._o but_o we_o shall_v proceed_v no_o further_o in_o the_o confutation_n of_o this_o un-scriptural_a notion_n what_o have_v be_v already_o say_v be_v if_o we_o mistake_v not_o sufficient_a to_o overthrow_v the_o whole_a of_o what_o mr._n roberts_n deliver_v there_o have_v be_v a_o law_n give_v which_o can_v have_v give_v life_n very_o righteousness_n shall_v have_v be_v by_o the_o law_n but_o the_o scripture_n have_v conclude_v all_o under_o sin_n that_o the_o promise_n of_o faith_n by_o jesus_n christ_n may_v be_v give_v to_o they_o that_o believe_v so_o that_o the_o law_n can_v not_o be_v a_o covenant_n of_o faith_n since_o the_o apostle_n do_v here_o so_o plain_o distinguish_v between_o they_o set_v forth_o the_o weakness_n of_o the_o one_o and_o the_o strength_n and_o perfection_n of_o the_o other_o the_o law_n say_v he_o can_v not_o flesh_n so_o there_o be_v no_o repugnancy_n in_o the_o law_n against_o the_o promise_n but_o what_o the_o law_n can_v not_o do_v the_o covenant_n of_o faith_n perform_v for_o it_o not_o only_o promise_v life_n but_o accomplish_v what_o it_o have_v promise_v and_o set_v the_o soul_n in_o safety_n §_o 4._o according_a to_o the_o plain_a and_o clear_a scope_n of_o the_o apostle_n reason_v therefore_o the_o law_n be_v so_o far_o from_o be_v a_o covenant_n of_o faith_n that_o it_o be_v quite_o another_o thing_n for_o if_o it_o have_v be_v a_o covenant_n of_o faith_n it_o will_v have_v satisfaction_n of_o christ_n there_o be_v no_o repugnancy_n or_o hostile_a contrariety_n betwixt_o the_o law_n and_o the_o promise_n or_o between_o the_o law_n and_o faith_n which_o have_v respect_n to_o the_o promise_n there_o be_v only_o a_o difference_n of_o deficiency_n in_o respect_n of_o that_o strength_n that_o there_o be_v in_o the_o one_o to_o what_o there_o be_v in_o the_o other_o the_o one_o be_v weak_a through_o the_o flesh_n the_o other_o strong_a and_o powerful_a and_o go_v throughstitch_n with_o its_o work_n but_o what_o the_o law_n can_v not_o do_v through_o our_o weakness_n that_o christ_n have_v perform_v by_o fulfil_v its_o command_n and_o submit_v to_o its_o curse_n on_o our_o behalf_n whereby_o god_n justice_n be_v satisfy_v and_o everlasting_a righteousness_n obtain_v for_o the_o salvation_n of_o sinner_n and_o indeed_o herein_o consist_v the_o covenant_n of_o faith_n here_o be_v the_o object_n of_o it_o and_o in_o this_o path_n be_v the_o very_a law_n and_o justice_n of_o god_n itself_o most_o high_o glorify_v shall_v we_o say_v then_o that_o because_o the_o law_n be_v a_o covenant_n of_o work_n that_o it_o be_v therefore_o against_o the_o promise_n god_n forbid_v for_o who_o shall_v lay_v any_o thing_n to_o the_o charge_n of_o god_n elect_n so_o as_o to_o hinder_v the_o accomplishment_n of_o the_o promise_n upon_o they_o the_o law_n itself_o do_v not_o can_v impeach_v they_o since_o it_o be_v god_n that_o justifi_v or_o who_o shall_v condemn_v they_o the_o law_n itself_o can_v since_o it_o be_v christ_n that_o died._n it_o be_v true_a the_o law_n say_v that_o the_o man_n that_o do_v these_o thing_n shall_v live_v by_o they_o and_o indeed_o herein_o the_o very_a essence_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n consist_v but_o the_o covenant_n of_o faith_n lead_v we_o to_o what_o christ_n have_v do_v and_o perform_v for_o we_o which_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n do_v not_o but_o though_o the_o law_n lead_v we_o not_o to_o christ_n yet_o christ_n be_v make_v under_o it_o and_o give_v it_o its_o due_a honour_n on_o our_o behalf_n hence_o it_o follow_v that_o the_o law_n itself_o that_o be_v before_o our_o enemy_n stand_v up_o as_o our_o friend_n even_o that_o law_n that_o be_v before_o against_o we_o which_o be_v contrary_a to_o we_o and_o which_o be_v in_o itself_o no_o other_o than_o the_o ministration_n of_o death_n and_o condemnation_n even_o that_o law_n stand_v up_o as_o our_o friend_n through_o the_o mediation_n of_o christ_n who_o god_n therefore_o have_v set_v forth_o to_o be_v a_o propitiation_n through_o faith_n in_o his_o blood_n to_o declare_v his_o righteousness_n that_o he_o may_v be_v just_o and_o the_o justifier_n of_o he_o that_o believe_v in_o jesus_n rom._n 3._o 24_o 25_o 26._o so_o that_o the_o law_n through_o the_o satisfaction_n of_o christ_n though_o it_o be_v as_o it_o be_v indeed_o a_o covenant_n of_o work_n yet_o be_v not_o against_o the_o promise_n there_o be_v no_o of_o faith_n but_o of_o work_n as_o the_o same_o apostle_n do_v plain_o affirm_v it_o be_v rom._n 3._o 27_o 28._o and_o therefore_o neither_o can_v it_o give_v life_n for_o if_o it_o can_v righteousness_n shall_v have_v be_v by_o it_o but_o say_v he_o the_o scripture_n have_v conclude_v all_o under_o sin_n that_o the_o promise_n by_o faith_n of_o jesus_n christ_n may_v be_v give_v to_o they_o but_o the_o righteousness_n which_o be_v of_o faith_n or_o gospel_n covenant_n speak_v on_o this_o wise_a etc._n etc._n if_o thou_o believe_v thou_o shall_v be_v save_v wherein_o we_o can_v but_o observe_v that_o the_o apostle_n make_v a_o plain_a difference_n betwixt_o the_o righteousness_n of_o the_o law_n and_o the_o righteousness_n of_o faith_n the_o one_o say_v he_o speak_v after_o this_o sort_n the_o other_o speak_v after_o quite_o another_o rate_n from_o whence_o also_o it_o plain_o follow_v that_o the_o law_n can_v not_o be_v a_o covenant_n of_o faith_n since_o the_o righteousness_n of_o the_o one_o be_v here_o so_o plain_o oppose_v to_o the_o righteousness_n of_o the_o other_o which_o yet_o it_o will_v not_o be_v have_v the_o law_n be_v a_o covenant_n of_o only_a much_o more_o if_o it_o have_v be_v such_o for_o the_o substance_n of_o it_o as_o it_o affirm_v for_o it_o can_v be_v imagine_v that_o if_o it_o have_v be_v a_o covenant_n of_o grace_n or_o a_o covenant_n of_o faith_n subservient_o much_o more_o if_o it_o have_v be_v such_o for_o the_o substance_n of_o it_o that_o ever_o it_o will_v have_v be_v set_v in_o point_n blank_a opposition_n to_o it_o as_o quite_o another_o thing_n as_o it_o be_v when_o the_o apostle_n tell_v we_o therefore_o that_o the_o righteousness_n which_o be_v of_o the_o law_n say_v do_v this_o and_o live_v but_o the_o righteousness_n of_o faith_n speak_v
