whereupon_o also_o it_o plain_o appear_v that_o it_o be_v only_a faith_n that_o deliver_v wretched_a man_n from_o all_o evil_a and_o bring_v they_o to_o the_o fruition_n of_o that_o high_a and_o sovereign_a good_a so_o great_o wish_v for_o of_o all_o for_o why_o faith_n alone_o give_v unto_o man_n perfect_a righteousness_n and_o therefore_o also_o eternal_a life_n if_o so_o be_v then_o faith_n minister_v not_o this_o profit_n unto_o we_o it_o be_v very_o unprofitable_a since_o man_n as_o i_o say_v believe_v in_o god_n to_o the_o end_n they_o may_v be_v save_v by_o he_o and_o james_n himself_o declare_v unto_o we_o in_o the_o three_o short_a verse_n follow_v yea_o the_o very_a interrogation_n whereby_o he_o propound_v the_o question_n seem_v to_o contain_v a_o secret_a answer_n unto_o it_o and_o to_o tell_v we_o what_o we_o ought_v to_o judge_v of_o this_o question_n for_o this_o the_o common_a course_n of_o question_v do_v prove_v for_o why_o if_o i_o shall_v say_v to_o some_o lewd_a and_o desperate_a knave_n profess_v christian_n religion_n with_o we_o in_o the_o use_n of_o the_o sacrament_n public_a prayer_n and_o sermon_n in_o this_o manner_n think_v thou_o that_o this_o outward_a profession_n of_o christian_a religion_n will_v do_v thou_o any_o good_a when_o as_o thou_o have_v a_o filthy_a and_o unclean_a hart_n be_v thou_o of_o a_o opinion_n that_o it_o will_v save_v thou_o it_o be_v even_o as_o much_o as_o if_o i_o deny_v it_o and_o say_v doubtless_o thou_o be_v not_o to_o look_v that_o this_o outward_a profession_n of_o thy_o mouth_n shall_v make_v thou_o become_v acceptable_a to_o god_n so_o when_o james_n say_v what_o profit_v it_o a_o man_n to_o say_v he_o have_v faith_n when_o he_o have_v no_o work_n that_o be_v live_v not_o by_o faith_n can_v this_o faith_n save_o he_o that_o so_o believe_v it_o be_v all_o one_o as_o if_o he_o flat_o deny_v it_o and_o if_o we_o take_v it_o thus_o then_o by_o the_o testimony_n and_o authority_n of_o james_n himself_o the_o question_n shall_v in_o this_o wise_a be_v determine_v and_o we_o be_v to_o hold_v that_o by_o faith_n without_o work_n no_o man_n can_v attain_v unto_o salvation_n and_o we_o must_v undoubted_o stand_v to_o the_o judgement_n of_o james_n as_o to_o that_o which_o proceed_v not_o from_o man_n but_o from_o god_n for_o albeit_o he_o be_v a_o man_n yet_o because_o he_o be_v the_o apostle_n of_o christ_n and_o inspire_v with_o the_o holyghost_n that_o speak_v this_o which_o also_o be_v agreeable_a with_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o divine_a oracle_n who_o but_o a_o unclean_a person_n will_v call_v this_o matter_n into_o question_n notwithstanding_o lest_o he_o may_v seem_v willing_a to_o convince_v and_o enforce_v we_o by_o his_o sole_a authority_n to_o believe_v it_o he_o add_v a_o reason_n by_o way_n of_o comparison_n whereby_o he_o so_o plain_o and_o manifestlye_o prove_v the_o thing_n to_o be_v so_o that_o now_o he_o lead_v we_o not_o only_o by_o his_o authority_n but_o also_o by_o force_n of_o reason_n whereunto_o they_o willing_o submit_v themselves_o that_o be_v partaker_n of_o reason_n as_o it_o be_v by_o the_o hand_n to_o the_o understanding_n of_o the_o question_n propound_v and_o his_o reason_n be_v this_o if_o some_o poor_a wretched_a man_n be_v here_o present_a destitute_a of_o all_o thing_n necessary_a naked_a and_o hungrye_a to_o who_o some_o scotfree_a and_o wealthy_a person_n will_v say_v with_o all_o gentleness_n go_v thy_o way_n hence_o i_o pray_v thou_o and_o take_v meat_n and_o warm_v thyself_o and_o yet_o give_v he_o nothing_o for_o to_o eat_v or_o whereby_o to_o warm_v himself_o though_o to_o outward_a appearance_n this_o speech_n of_o the_o rich_a man_n seem_v to_o be_v honest_a and_o kind_a to_o the_o poor_a yet_o what_o good_a do_v it_o to_o the_o poor_a creature_n that_o be_v like_a to_o starve_v for_o hunger_n and_o cold_a nay_o doubtless_o it_o be_v rather_o injurious_a and_o thyself_o and_o yet_o thou_o know_v he_o to_o want_v all_o thing_n necessary_a as_o neither_o have_a house_n to_o go_v to_o nor_o meat_n to_o eat_v nor_o clothing_n to_o put_v on_o nor_o any_o thing_n to_o warm_v himself_o withal_o do_v thou_o not_o mock_v and_o deride_v his_o poverty_n do_v thou_o not_o alike_o as_o if_o thou_o upbraid_v he_o with_o his_o poor_a estate_n and_o misery_n even_o of_o mouth_n shall_v neither_o be_v accept_v nor_o account_v off_o

payment_n for_o why_o if_o thou_o have_v even_o all_o the_o whole_a bible_n by_o hart_n in_o hebrew_n gréek_n and_o latin_a &_o in_o thy_o mother_n tongue_n nay_o which_o be_v much_o more_o and_o all_o that_o be_v save_v as_o james_n say_v here_o what_o be_v then_o further_o require_v this_o perhaps_o will_v some_o man_n say_v that_o we_o believe_v that_o christ_n do_v not_o only_o suffer_v but_o that_o everye_o one_o believe_v that_o he_o suffer_v also_o for_o he_o but_o what_o if_o we_o false_o persuade_v ourselves_o of_o this_o as_o we_o be_v wont_v to_o devise_v &_o imagine_v many_o thing_n of_o ourselves_o what_o if_o i_o say_v some_o lewd_a &_o wicked_a man_n a_o idolater_n or_o manslear_v will_v persuade_v himself_o that_o christ_n die_v for_o he_o as_o it_o be_v like_a that_o many_o in_o europe_n do_v persuade_v themselves_o will_v christ_n for_o this_o vain_a persuasion_n sake_n save_o he_o many_o say_v christ_n himself_o in_o that_o day_n shall_v cry_v out_o after_o this_o manner_n lord_n lord_n open_a unto_o we_o we_o have_v prophesy_v and_o cast_v out_o devil_n in_o thy_o name_n but_o they_o shall_v receive_v this_o answer_n from_o he_o depart_v from_o i_o most_o perfect_a &_o absolute_a and_o that_o nothing_o else_o can_v further_o be_v require_v so_o say_v i_o likewise_o do_v a_o paint_a man_n seem_v to_o consist_v of_o all_o his_o part_n and_o member_n and_o yet_o be_v he_o nothing_o else_o but_o a_o paint_a man_n or_o the_o picture_n and_o shadow_n of_o a_o man_n which_o also_o in_o effect_n be_v to_o be_v say_v of_o this_o faith_n of_o thou_o or_o that_o we_o may_v tarry_v in_o the_o example_n of_o james_n the_o carcase_n of_o a_o man_n have_v all_o the_o part_n and_o member_n of_o a_o man_n body_n and_o yet_o for_o all_o that_o it_o be_v not_o a_o man_n because_o it_o lack_v a_o spirit_n say_v he_o in_o the_o last_o verse_n of_o this_o chapter_n so_o that_o same_o faith_n say_v he_o without_o work_v be_v dead_a though_o he_o understand_v and_o beléeve_v the_o foresay_a créede_v of_o th'apostle_n yea_o and_o the_o whole_a bible_n beside_o but_o thou_o will_v say_v these_o thing_n seem_v to_o be_v clean_a contrary_n to_o the_o doctrine_n receive_v among_o we_o and_o to_o the_o write_n of_o paul_n no_o very_o for_o why_o they_o that_o judge_v right_o of_o justification_n by_o faith_n do_v not_o disagree_v from_o james_n neither_o be_v paul_n contrary_a to_o james._n yet_o paul_n say_v that_o we_o be_v justify_v by_o faith_n only_o without_o the_o work_v of_o the_o law_n paul_n indeed_o have_v not_o the_o word_n only_o but_o yet_o when_o he_o say_v that_o we_o be_v justify_v without_o the_o work_n of_o the_o law_n i_o have_v no_o doubt_n of_o it_o but_o that_o it_o follow_v by_o the_o true_a exposition_n of_o paul_n that_o a_o man_n be_v justify_v by_o faith_n only_o but_o i_o say_v that_o it_o come_v never_o into_o paul_n mind_n to_o affirm_v that_o faith_n which_o be_v without_o work_n do_v justify_v for_o so_o he_o shall_v indeed_o have_v be_v contrary_a to_o james_n but_o he_o attribute_v the_o power_n and_o praise_n of_o justification_n to_o a_o true_a and_o lively_a faith_n which_o be_v never_o void_a of_o good_a work_v and_o not_o to_o the_o work_n themselves_o which_o be_v speak_v by_o he_o not_o only_o witty_o as_o every_o thing_n else_o but_o also_o true_o and_o christianly_o but_o abraham_n thou_o will_v say_v by_o the_o testimony_n of_o moses_n and_o paul_n in_o that_o only_a that_o he_o believe_v god_n promise_v he_o a_o plentiful_a posterity_n be_v account_v righteous_a abraham_n believe_v god_n and_o it_o be_v impute_v to_o he_o for_o righteousness_n but_o will_v thou_o know_v ovaine_n man_n say_v james_n here_o that_o abraham_n be_v not_o justify_v by_o faith_n without_o work_v do_v he_o not_o offer_v up_o his_o son_n isaac_n on_o the_o altar_n abraham_n faith_n than_o be_v not_o that_o fruitless_a and_o barren_a faith_n which_o consist_v in_o the_o knowledge_n or_o in_o the_o ignorant_a belief_n of_o some_o certain_a point_n of_o divinity_n but_o that_o effectual_a and_o work_v faith_n which_o frame_v a_o man_n to_o the_o obedience_n of_o god_n for_o this_o appear_v plain_a by_o the_o life_n and_o deed_n of_o abraham_n but_o yet_o some_o object_n that_o the_o same_o can_v be_v say_v of_o the_o thief_n that_o be_v crucify_v with_o christ_n for_o when_o he_o have_v spend_v his_o whole_a life_n in_o evil_a do_n and_o have_v say_v unto_o christ_n be_v now_o at_o the_o point_n of_o death_n remember_v i_o when_o thou_o come_v into_o thy_o kingdom_n he_o hear_v forthwith_o this_o day_n shall_v thou_o be_v with_o i_o in_o paradise_n and_o immediate_o after_o he_o die_v yea_o but_o say_v i_o the_o faith_n of_o
